Nokia OVI keeps bluetooth connection active

Hi. I recently switched from PC suite to the new OVI suite. This new application keeps the bluetooth connection to the phone active from the moment that you connect to the phone. With PC suite there was only a connection active during communciation. The result is that OVI is communicating with my phone continuously, thus consuming a lot of battery power constantly. I have switched off all automatic sync options. Does anyone know how to stop this continuous bluetooth connection? Thanks in advance. With kind regards, Ron. Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0.2.42 PC Connectivity Solution 9.45.0.0 Connectivity Cable Driver 7.1.23.0 Nokia Ovi Suite Software Updater 2009.40.0.60128 Maps Service API 3.0.38.0 Nokia mPlatform 2.6.40 Ovi Desktop Sync Engine 1.1.0.77 Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit Edition, Service Pack 3 Language: English Detected internet browsers: - Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13 Detected Bluetooth stacks: - Microsoft (Version: 5.1.2600, Build: 5512) - IVT BlueSoleil (Version: 2.7.0, Build: 8)

Being a lazy user of Nokia PC Suite (let others go to the Bleeding Edge, don't try and do difficult functions, use it only for basic phone security, ...), I was happily bumbling along, backing up my Contacts, Calendar etc., without a care in the world.  Then along comes a 'new and better' version of PC Suite and without much thought I install it and trash the previous version install files.  And guess what?  The ***bleep*** new version fails to do backup of the Contacts file (just hangs forever). Any bug-fixing or other quick correction for PC Suite now looks unlikely, especially given comments here about Ovi becoming the only Nokia-supported option (even if actually support is patchy or non-existent).
So, looking for pain-free (or at least pain-reduced) alternatives, I investigate Ovi.  And one of the first comments I see says that it's a reduced-function form of PC Suite!  And PC Suite doesn't work properly anyway!!
And oh look!  Ovi may not actually support my phone (6600 Slide) and according to this thread is misuses Bluetooth to the point of draining the phone battery even if no useful activity is in progress.   Give me strength!!!  Why release ANOTHER pile of , when judging by the LONG list of problems here, there has been no success making its predecessor work properly?

  • Can I have 2 Bluetooth connection active at the same time? Works with other phones...

Is it possible to have one Bluetooth connection for "phone audio" and a 2nd connection for "A2DP" music streaming at the same time on my iPhone 5? My car-stereo has Bluetooth for phone calls but NOT for audio streaming. However, there's a 3.5mm aux in on the head unit. On my S5 I can create one Bluetooth connection to the car-stereo and select "phone audio" and a 2nd for my Bluetooth aux-in adapter. It works perfect since months but last week I changed back to an iPhone (5s) and it appears that I can only have ONE BT connection active at a time!?  Any ideas anyone?

    Hi SwedelostinAmerica,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
The iPhone can maintain multiple pairing records, but it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. However, in your situation there may be a solution. You can connect the iPhone via Bluetooth for calls and use the 3.5mm jack on your iPhone and car radio to connect for music.
The following article explains Bluetooth pairing and usage. Please use it as a reference.

  • Keeping wireless connection active on logout

    Hi
If you want to use AdmitMac on a MacbookAir with only wireless how can you keep the wireless network active when you log out. It seems when you logout the wireless (WPA2 Enterprise) disconnects. And then at the login prompt you cannot use AD credentials since there is no network to connect to AD.
Has anyone found a workaround for this?
    Larry

    Larry,
We did some testing to be sure this works, and it does. We're currently testing with builds later than the current release. What version of ADmitMac are you using? You can contact me directly if you'd like.

  • Nokia OVI Suite with proxy

    Hi,
How can I connect the Nokia OVI Suite with a proxy server behind? I am not able to download the maps because the Suite cannot connect to the Maps server.
    Best regards,
    José

    Hi ESerieUser,
If your PCSuite works fine, even your OVi suite should work fine without proxy entry in the application.
You can try reinstallation of the OViSuite application after uninstalling even the PC Suite.
Follow the below steps to re-install OVi suite and then try connecting the device.
    Uninstall PCSuite
Run pc suite cleaner by downloading from http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/pc-suites/how-to/nokia-pc-suite-cleaner
Run the msi cleaner ( installer file msicuu2.tst is attached, rename the file to msicuu2.exe)
With the help of msi cleaner remove the following programs.
    Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
    Nokia Ovi Suite
    PC Connectivity Solution
Goto Computer Managerment -> Device Manager -> Ports and delete all the ports creted for Nokia devices.
Goto the following path and delete all the folders inside the 'NokiaInstallerCache' folder
    C:\ProgramData\NokiaInstallerCache
Later after restarting the PC, download and install the latest OVi Suite from the following location.
    http://www.ovi.com/suite
After installation, restart the PC once again, then connect the device and wait for the drivers to get installed on own.
After the drivers installation, start the OVi Suite application and connect the device from the application screen.

  • Connecting ovi using bluetooth win7 64x on nokia 5...

    Dear All,
I'm was desperately trying to connect my nokia 5230 using bluetooth and as i struggeled a bit i thought i'd just as well share what to do... (in my case at least)
I have Win7 x64 with "Bluetooth Stack for windows by Toshiba" - v7.00.11
Check this by viewing the "info" of the software that came with your bluetooth adaptor (bluetooth tray icon - info)
system requirements: http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download (don't forget to click the "View full system requirements"
bluetooth settings on the nokia are active etc... all should be good
when i try to connect from my phone to my laptop:
    bluetooth : on
my phone's visibility: shown to all
    laptop shows as available device
error message: pairing device with laptop: unable to pair with ...
when i try to connect from my laptop to my phone (by adding a new connectiong using bluetooth adaptor software)
    phone shows as available device
error message: detection of service has failed
when i try to connect from my laptop to my phone (by adding a new device using Ovi)
    error again...
Solution: change some default settings in the bluetooth adaptor sofware
search the options for "security" and manually check the box "forced security connection level (verification and encryption)" (or something like that, mine is in dutch)
I then easily connected the devices using ovi. (ps: this doesn't work when the adaptor is already in use so make sure to close any windows open from previous attempts like with the bluetooth adaptor software)
A lot of connections attempts are made to the phone so just keep accepting them and after a while the ovi software will indicate the devices are connected.
you'll see the laptop appear as a paired device on your nokia 5230, make sure to set it as "authorised"
ps: i also had to search a bit to find the "paired devices" so on your nokia 5230...
press the white central button to go to the options menu
    select settings
    select connectivity
    select bluetooth
select the central icon at the top of the screen
you should be in the "paired devices" section now
select the device you want to connect too & set as authorised
(you can also initiate a new paired device from this menu...)
    Greetings,
    Manuel

Similar issue faced by me as well..  not all the tracks was transferred on the first sync.. so I manually copied them to device. But tried the second time, this time I deleted all the songs in device and transferred using Ovi suite, surprisingly it worked this time
Helpful information, then dont forget to hit the kudos star :-) Or say it accepted solution and thanks

  • OVI fails to connect to Nokia N8 on "Checking the ...

    Hi All,
I'm having problems connecting OVI to a Nokia N8-00 handset via Bluetooth.
The Add New Device wizard is able to detect the phone but when selecting it from the list and proceeding it stays on "Checking the Bluetooth capabilities of your device." for some 20 seconds after which it eventually fails with the error of "Failed to connect to your device. Problems occured while authorising the Bluetooth connection between your device and computer."
I've verified that both devices are configured as authorised by their respective counterpart.
Also tried to remove the pairing from both the laptop and phone and re-pair them again - same problem.
I am able to sync the phone with OVI via USB no problem.
I am also able to use my OVI with another Nokia phone (E72) via Bluetooth without any issues.
This points me to a possible problem with Bluetooth on the N8 phone itself but I don't have any way to prove it.
I wonder if anybody else has experienced the same issue?
    OVI version 3.0.0.290
    N8-00 version 013.016
    Thanks, Jan

All bluetooths stack versions, OVI versions, PC Suite versions are same as those of another laptop which connects well over bluetooth.
By the way still, my Win7 Home Premium's OVI's system info tells that it is using Microsoft Bluetooth Stack Version 6.1.7600 build 16385 (Active & In Use).
PLS DO HELP. OTHERWISE I'VE NO OPTION BUT TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER SYMBIAN 3 DEVICE. I DON'T WANT TO PART WITH MY N8 OR MY ACER ICONIA TABLET.
Note: This problem seems only with N8 because I've tried other nokia models. They all connect well. But I've also tried another N8, that also DIDN'T CONNECT. What the heck problem is with N8.

  • PC Suite & Nokia Ovi Suite via Bluetooth on Nokia ...

I had a tough time in getting the Nokia N8 in sync with the latest Nokia PC Suite which will recognise the N8 (version 7.1.40.9) together with the Nokia Ovi Suite through bluetooth. It was a nightmare! I don't use to have any troubles in connecting any Nokia phones via bluetooth but I do have a problem with the N8.
After searching through various forums and blogs, I have come to a conclusion. There is a workaround the problem when it pertains to the Nokia PC Suite. I rarely use the Nokia Ovi Suite because the Ovi Suite would not allow me to sync calender items for more than 6 weeks. With the Nokia PC Suite, it will allow a user to sync any items for 99 years! Can you believe it? However, not all are lost. The Ovi Suite is better in terms of installing updated maps on the N8 though. You would not be able to do so on the Nokia PC Suite.
When it comes to synchronising your N8 with your PC Suite/ Ovi Suite via bluetooth, you need to take care. The steps will be as follows:
    (1) Install the latest Nokia Ovi Suite and or PC Suite Suite version 7.1.40.9.
    (2) Don't run Ovi/Nokia PC Suite. If they are running on the taskbar, right click to exit all of them.
    (3) Enable bluetooth on your N8 and then right click on the bluetooth devices icon at the bottom right of your laptop.
    (4) Once you have right clicked on the bluetooth devices icon, select 'add devices'.
    (5) Follow the prompts on your N8 and also on your laptop/pc.
    (6) Please make sure that your N8's bluetooth is on 'discoverable'. Otherwise your laptop/pc will not be able to pick up the signal.
    (7) Follow the instructions given and then reboot your laptop/pc.
After that, you would need to fire up your PC Suite or Ovi Suite but not both at the same time. Use PC Suite to sync your contacts/messages/calenders while use the Ovi Suite to install and update your map on your Nokia devices.
    Good luck!

Pls help. I'm able to connect my N8 to my laptop's win7 home premium but not to OVI suite or PC Suite.
They get connected with N8 over cable but not over bluetooth. PC Suite says "Can not authenticate the phone" and ovi suite keeps checking the "Phone's bluetooth capabilities".
    Kindly help.

  • Nokia headset BH 905i - Bluetooth connection

    Hello,
I can not connect my headset Nokia BH 905i to my computer HP Pavilion dm3-1121ez Entertainment Notebook PC. I did download and install all the software at ; http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=4146810&
but it still does not connect.
My laptop will simply not see my Nokia BH 950i. My Nokia BH 905i works fine because I use it all the time with my Packard Bell laptop. It just will not connect to my HP Pavilion dm3-1121ez laptop ( when i press "add a Device" it will not show up).
And I have the SAME PROBLEM WITH MY Nokia 3720 classic.
I did just bye a Nokia 3720 classic mobile phone to connect to my headset BH 905i.
They say that it is compatible on the Nokia internet page :
    http://www.nokia.ch/produits/accessoires/tous-les-accessoires/kits-oreillettes/kits-oreillettes-blue...
BUT IT DOES NOT WORK, I CAN NOT CONNECT.
    (( Nokia 3720 classic - to - BH 905i ))
    Why ?
So it will not connect to my second computer and now to my mobile phone ?
    How can that be ?
It looks like if I was lucky one time out of three. ( Is this a joke ? )
What can it be ? My Bluetooth seams to work just fine, on my laptop it sees all the mobile phones of my neighbors but will not see my Nokia bluetooth headset. All my driver are well installed, at least it looks like it.
And my Nokia OS version is up to date, that is at least what it says on the nokia internet page when i checked and Nokia Ovi Suite give the same result.

    Can somebody help ?
Do I have to send my BH 905i back to Nokia and ask them why 2 time of 3 it will not work when it is supposed to work ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry my mistake. It works fine !
Just the way of connection to a new device is not the same, the second time, then the first time. (I don't know why ?)
    1) You have to stop connection (witch is normal)
    2) Then you have to press for 5 sec the button (when it is green, what means already that it is searching, at least in my mind; since green = searching and blue = connection). But no, the second time fast blue = searching.
That is what I did not get. But it is in the manual, so it is my mistake.
Still Nokia should not change colors. Give one color for connection-search and one when it is connected. And for sure don't change them.
I still really like this headset, and think that Nokia did a great job by making it. I use it a lot. So I am really happy with it.
For now nothing comes close to it. Since it has bluetooth, noise canceling, and a microphone(s).
The sound quality is good too.
Keep producing that kind of headsets. We love it !

  • Nokia C5-03/Win7 Bluetooth connectivity problem

When I am trying to connect Nokia Ovi Suite to my phone using Bluetooth, the pairing process seems to succeed, except the last phase: Then I receive a message that the connection did not succeed. The wizard gives then a possibility to try again with a different ID but it fails every time.
It is the same problem if I try to pair the phone from computer's Bluetooth icon in the notification area. However, with using my laptop with XP this succeeds. Therefore I believe that my phone is OK but there is something wrong with my Bluetooth software in Win 7 computer. Nokia Ovi Suite lists it:
    - Microsoft (Version: 6.1.7600, subversion: 16385)
When I start the computer, the Event Viewer shows the following error:
"The Bluetooth driver expected an HCI event with a certain size but did not receive it."
    Source: BTHUSB
    EventID: 5
The Microsoft's "Event Log Online Help" onthat window does not suggest anything.
However, this may be the actual reason for the problems but I do not know how to fix it.
I have tried Microsoft's "Fix it" tool but it did not fix this problem.
    Any ideas what to do?

    Still the same problem.
Now I installed the Nokia PC Suite and I tried to make a bluetooth connection to it.
Everything goes again well except after the last phase when I give the asked pin number in my phone, the computer ponders a while and shows then a window with the text that the phone cannot be verified.

  • OVI fails to connect to Nokia N8-00 on "Checking t...

    Hi All,
I'm having problems connecting OVI to a Nokia N8-00 handset via Bluetooth.
    Thanks, Jan

OVI is A BUG! I'm using PC suite with an old version 7.1.40.6 (still compatible with the N8) which wor'ks great with my N8 for more than a year. Time to time I update OVI to check if the known bugs are fixed but since new are coming it is a no end situation. I have had a N95 and a N97 before which never either worked properly with OVI and Outlook 97, 2003 & 2010.
How CAN THAT BE Mr NOKIA?
Because of this, I'm closed to give up with this good phone supplier offering a VERY WEAK software support to its clients!
Good luck to all of you still patient ...
