Nokia PC Suite re-installation trouble

Hey all!
I'm having trouble upgrading my PC Suite software. Here's a background:
Few months ago I wanted to try another OS on my PC, so I've deleted everything seemingly useless from the hard drive (including all Temp dirs) and Ghosted the drive into an image file. After a while, I've restored the image and everything works great, however, when I'm trying to upgrade the Nokia PC Suite it's trying to uninstall the previous version, installer for which it obviously won't find, as it's been deleted by me before.
Fine. I'm downloading and trying the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner tool (v. 7.1.1), cleaning the registry w/ several tools, deleting Nokia and PC Connectivity folders and it's useless. It deletes something, but when I'm trying to install the latest PC Suite version it says it can't uninstall the previous version and closes.
I've googled through a lot of info and seemingly tried everything possible, but the damn thing simply wouldn't remove itself. What am I missing? Does Nokia install a hidden registry key which the Cleaner does not remove?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is getting totally ridiculous.
TIA,
Jonathan.

Surprisingly, I did and I hope it'll help you.
Basically, Nokia PC Suite Cleaner is a piece of **bleep**. It doesn't erase everything from your computer thus you can't reinstall.
What I did is run the cleaner first - because it erases at least something. Notice that if you still have a problem, after you've runt he cleaner, it says that the product can't be uninstalled because there was no valid installation source and that the registry has been cleaned. This is a sign that you still have a problem and won't be able to install the NPS. Then you have to search your entire hard drive where Nokia PC Suite was installed for "nokia", including hidden and system files.
One of the paths you'll find is this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Jonathan\Application Data\Nokia
Back everything up from this folder and then delete it. Your settings and backups are stored there, but apparently if you don't remove it you won't get anywhere.
Then you have to do some registry cleaning. I used the CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and then Eusing Free Registry Cleaner (http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm). With each software you have to run the cleaning several times at a time - for example, run the CCleaner once, let it back up your registry, repair all the issues, then run again. I did it until in both programs nothing was showing up anymore.
After that, I've restarted the computer and ran the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner again. This time, it said that no products were found. That's great. If it didn't find anything it means that you've done a good job. Now run the installation for Nokia PC Suite and it should install just fine.
DEAR NOKIA!!
I've been googling for a solution like this for a week with no answers *anywhere*, including your message boards. Is it *this* hard to make the Cleaner *actually* delete all registry entries and files? Come on!

  • Nokia PC Suite upgrade installs Firefox Extension

    Dear Nokia
I upgraded my Nokia PC suite today. After installing the upgrade, I opened my browser, and was surprised to see that Nokia has thoughtfully added a piece of crapware to my list of Firefox extensions.
    1. Commercial software developers must acknowledge that the computer belongs to the user. As such, the user has the right to choose what software to install on his machine (discussion of 'Green Dam' is beyond the scope of this post). Installing software without first asking the user deprives him of this right, and may result in annoyance.
    2. If a piece of software has several components, some of which are optional, the installation process should ask the user which components should be installed. Failure to do so may annoy the user.
    3. If software A is planning to modify pre-existing software B in any way, software A needs to ask the user's permission, as it may well break software B in the process. Failure to do so may annoy the user.
    4. It has been documented that extensions may introduce security vulnerabilities into the browser (cf. Greasemonkey's GM_xmlhttpRequest). I'm sure that Nokia's SDLC is CMMI Level 5 and that they never release software with defects (hmmm), but if a virus were to be distributed through Nokia's extension, one can rest assured that the user will be annoyed.
I elected to install Nokia PC Suite v 7.1.30.9. I was not notified that the installation would include a Firefox extension, and thus had no option to opt-out. Installing software without obtaining the user's prior permission is a serious grievance, especially when doing so may affect another programme and/or introduce security vulnerabilities. This attitude, to my mind, smacks of arrogance, and I think it goes without saying that I am seriously annoyed. A quick Google will demonstrate that I am not alone in my annoyance.
It is thus recommended that Nokia allow the user to choose whether or not to install the PC Sync 2 Synchronisation Extension when upgrading PC Suite. Until that is effected, I suggest the following remedial process.
    1. Close Firefox.
    2. Delete the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Firefox\extensions\[email protected]
    3. Delete the folder %programfiles%\Nokia\Nokia PC Suite 7\bkmrksync

I'd like to start this post saying :
THIS HAS BEEN KNOWN ISSUE FOR  A LONG TIME!
Thank You for the tip. I'm at situation where Nokia software has been removed. Folders deleted and as far as windows search can tell string "bkmrksync" can not be found from filenames in system drive. Regedit does not find the key either. All of this for my friend needed to do something with the software. Not so surprisingly he told me that the sofware was not capable of the doing the tasks he wanted. Is there anything else to do but stuff my comp full of explosives and send it to Nokia for I really do agree on the annoyance part.

  • Nokia PC Suite installation error

    Hello everyone!
I use Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2, Nokia PC Suite 6.86.9.0 rus. During installing this PC software on my PC I got an error: dialog box named ServiceLayer shows "Could not start service". Then after installation is complete and I run it I get new error message: "There is no available connection types for your phone". It lasts approximatly for 2 months. I used older versions of Nokia PC Suite before and had no problems. Please explain me what it all means and how can I solve this trouble? Great thanks in advance to everybody who help me

I have experienced exactly the same problem, running Vista Business SP1 on a 6-month old ASUS laptop. Several versions of Nokia PC Suite have returned the same error message: There is no available connection type and therefore connection to phone cannot be established. The wizard will exit.
I have just followed all steps in earlier posts and downloaded and installed PC Suite 6.86.9.3 English version and am still getting the same error. I had thought that this might have been caused by SP1, but am now not so sure. Earlier versions (pre 6.84.x) worked without problem, but now the installer checks to ensure it is the latest version and these newer ones all fail at the same point - connection. Any more suggestions on how to overcome this problem?

  • Satellite U300-130 - TosBtMng has stopped working after Nokia PC Suite installation

I've got the same problem too... with Toshiba Satellite U300-130.
Bluetooth had worked pretty well before I installed Nokia PC Suite for my mobile on my PC (the newest version 7.1.26.0 from website).
To be correct, at first I even managed to maintain a Bluetooth connection between PC and Nokia and ran syncronisation of contacts. I made several attempts but each time syncronisation run ended with message "PC coudn't get answer from your Nokia".
After rebooting, my PC went crazy and started issuing message "TosBtMng has stopped working" and it restarted every time I ask it to close.
Installation of new version of BT Stack (6.40) didn't fix this error.
    Please help

    Hi there
I answered an existing thread with the same problem, but no-one can help apparently.
Anyway,,, I can at least help you with getting rid of the looping setup. You need to rename the directory with the Toshiba bluetooth stack.
I also have Nokia syncing and it worked fine until recently. - I have to say I think the problem relates to a Windows auto upgrade.
How to solve this is a different matter. At this moment I have given up. The Toshiba bluetooth stack disabled.

    Hi,
It seems that there are still some old files left after uninstallation of old PC Suite version.
    You can try this:
    1. Uninstall PC Suite, Nokia Connectivity Solution and Nokia Connectivity Cable drivers, if still exist.
    2. Reboot computer
    3. Download PC Suite Cleaner from http://europe.nokia.com/A4144912
    4. Run it with option "Other problem". It should delete old files.
    5. Reboot computer
    6. Install PC Suite 6.8

    hello,
I downloaded Nokia PC Suite Version 7.1.40.1 from Nokia site and installation got stuck at around 85%. I had to kill the session and restart installation. But no luck as it gets stuck everytime. I then tried cleaning all files related to PC Suite manually including registry entries. But I was not able to clean up some of the already installed files. It keeps saying the files are being used currently. Restarting the laptop also does not work.If I try to start the installation again I get a error message stating that the previous installation is in progress. Could some help me with this strange problem ?

  • Nokia PC Suite installation error - how to uninsta...

    Hi,
New here. Recently bought E51 with Nokia PC Suite 6.85.14.1 provided. I use Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2.
I have a previous version of the Suite installed (6.4.8). I tried to uninstall (before installing the new version). After uninstalling and rebooting my PC, somehow the 6.4.8 version of the Suite still resides in my PC. Using "Start | All Programs", the Nokia folder still appear with the following 4 items:
    - Nokia PC Suite
    - Readme
    - Uninstall Nokia PC Suite
    - User's Guide for Nokia POC Suite
I clicked on "Uninstall Nokia PC Suite", it will ask me to reboot to complete the uninstallation. But the Nokia folder still appear after rebooting. When I click on "Control Panel" to Add/Remove Programs, the Nokia PC Suite and PC Connectivity Solution are displayed with no "Remove" button.
I think there were some problems in the uninstallation process.
Now when I try to install the newer version (6.85.14.1), it will display the following error message and needs to halt the installation process:
"This version of PC Connectivity Solution cannot be used with the current installed version of Nokia PC Suite. Update or uninstall Nokia PC Suite before trying to install PC Connectivity Solution again."
Can someone help me what I should do? Install the older 6.4.8 again and uninstall it? I no longer have the CD. Where can I get the installation program? Or try the latest version 6.86.9.0?

    Hi devotion22,
What you can do is uninstall Nokia Connectivity cable driver, PC Connectivity solution and PC Suite (if you have reinstalled the latest one), then if you have any reputed PC Cleaner which is reliable cleaner, clean your PC. Delete unwanted files from your pc, then reinstall the latest nokia PC Suite from nokia site and then start using Nokia PC Suite.

  • Nokia Ovi Suite installation

How can I install the Nokia Ovi Suite to another hard drive than the standard "C" drive?

Hi, if you want to install Nokia Ovi Suite to for example D: drive, to directory "D:\Program files", you could start installation application from command line following way:
    Nokia_Ovi_Suite_webinstaller_all.exe /TARGET="D:\Program files\NokiaOviSuite"
This would create a new folder "NokiaOviSuite" under D:\Program files\ and install Nokia Ovi Suite there.

  • How to use single installation of Nokia Ovi Suite ...

I want to help my adult son set up his (different model-) Nokia Smartphone.
How to use the Nokia Ovi Suit already installed for a different user?

    Hey,
If i hav understood ur issue correctly, u want to share the same nokia ovi suite(Contacts, Messages, Calendar and tasks etc) of ur entire family with single nokia ovi suite? If my understaning is wrong, please do correct/educate me.
AFAIK, nokia ovi suite does not work the same way how pc suite works at least when it comes to PIM sync like Contacts, Messages, calendar and tasks etc.,
In case of PC Suite, u can connect more than a device and u can sync/store messages/contacts/calendar etc separately and u can switch to the next device, there is no dedicated database to store any of ur data, if u r synching with pc suite.
In case of Ovi Suite, it has got a database where it stores user's info in a database, so u cannot sync multiple phone's data with single nokia ovi suite.
