Nokia phones lags behind competitor in features

Hi all, I have been disappointed at Nokia's new line of releases of smartphones, I find them lagging behind in features in both hardware & software.
I am very impressed by Android devices like Motorola's Milestones & Samsung's galaxy S2, I like my N900 but is seriously considering upgrade to the Motorola Milestone 3 which hasn't been release yet.

yeah u r rite but i think nokia is going to bounce back with the windows phones..

My n82 is slow.It connects up alright, but when I navigate the arrow is like 50mtrs slower than when I'm driving. So for eg: I would pass a street, then check my phone and it will show me way behind. I've got sygic mcguider installed, nokia maps and garmin xt mobile ( plus google maps which I don't use because you need an internet connection) and they're all the same.I'm running the latest firmware.Anyone else having this problem?

  • TV-Out feature in Nokia Phones

    Hello,
I was about to buy Nokia N79 or Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, and came to know that the TV out feature has been removed from most of the Nokia phones except higher end ones.
I was in despair because this feature was really a important for me and made me shortlist aforesaid two devices that were  in my budget.
I searched and found out that this is due to shortage of some hardware components....!!!!
So, I wanted to know that whether TV-Out function has permanently been removed or it will again be available when the necessare hardware components are available?????
Any idaes how much time should I need to wait for this feature to come back again???
    ..thanks n regards-----

HI That small sticker is the only hint to the problem, Nokia careline did not even know about the problem,  we have been ripped off plain and simple. I will never support Nokia in my life again and know of quite a few people who will not either, It is disgusting to get an answer like the one below from such a big company.
Imagine the next car you buy and in an accident the airbags dont deploy because they were not fitted due to a power failure. or your spare wheel is missing or the radio does not work. And then oh sorry we put some stupid little sticker under the dashboard where you cant see it. Go to hell Nokia, I will support cheep chinese knockoffs and copies of your product rather than spend my money on your ^%$ again. I am sick and tired of being ripped off by big business.
What are people going to do if there phones need replacing due to damage/failure/theft etc. absolutely disgusting Nokia
    Dear Lindsay,
Thank you for emailing Nokia Careline.
Due to a severe power-outage in our sub-supplier’s factory, we are
    experiencing a shortage with a TV-out component in August, 2009. As a
result, this component shortage will affect a limited number of devices
    during this manufacturing period.
We are currently looking into ways with which we can minimize the effect on
devices and ensure seamless deliveries. However, there is a possibility that
certain products in the Live and Connect categories will experience changes
in terms of functionality (TV-out not available) and sales package contents
(TV-out cable not included in variants that regularly would contain one)
during this manufacturing period. For the most part, the key features in
these devices are not related to the TV-out functionality.
We will inform consumers about the missing feature with a sticker on the
sales package and a leaflet inside the sales package. Individuals who wish
to ensure that their model supports TV-out feature should check the sales
package. Those without the sticker or leaflet will continue to offer the
feature. We expect that relevant sales packages delivered to the channel in
September will all have the feature.
Customer satisfaction and product quality are very important to Nokia and we
take all quality and customer satisfaction-related issues seriously.

  • My phone is lagging behind after update.

Ever since i updated my 3Gs to the ios 5 software its been lagging behind. For instance, when i text a word, sometimes/most of the time, it takes about a 1 second before the word even spells out. The letters when typing dont pop up till about 1 second after they are typed. Is this because the 3Gs cant handle the new software? Thanks.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem, I suggest Restoring your iPhone and not installing the backup when requested.  You'll then need to re-setup your email, reinstall your apps and resync your iTunes library.

  • So j2me is lagging behind in terms of bluetooth

There is j2me bluetooth API (JSR82 if i'm not wrong) out there already but no mobie phone vendor has implemeted that API, so what's the point here?
I'm not blaming anyone here, but java is lagging behind, isn't it.
Bluetooth phone become more and more popular. So maybe SUN can do more to promote the bluetooth features of j2me, e.g. adding bluetooth simulation into the emulator.
Java games on phone CAN be more fun if players can play them with their friends in a same room over bluetooth connections.

    Hi again!
First of all I don't know why you open an extra thread?! Your message isn't so important...
It's not Sun's part to include Buetooth-Api in mobile phones. Sun has done everything that can be done (specified an api, created classes), the rest is part of mobile manufactureres.
I'm sure that sooner or later there will be phones that can communicate over bluetooth, for now this isn't possible.
However games are fun, but not more. I don't have many games on my mobile and my time is to expensive to waste it with playing mobile games.
Java is lagging behind? Behind what?
There's simply no other way than java, and I'm happy this is so.
If Nokia would support J2ME, Siemens and Samsung a proprietary C++ enviroment and Motorola would create a script-language for their phones I would not know what to do. I think I would not create mobile applikations at all.
Java has the problem that it is the lowest common determinator.
You can see this when looking for MIDP-1 and CLCD-1. This java had to run on lowest-end hardware (because mobiles these days where not as powerful than new ones) and thats why MIDP-2 has so many new features.
Would Sun have implemented all the midp-2 stuff in midp-1 no mobile manfucaturer would include java, because before 4y fast embedded hardware was expensive or simply not available....
Be happy what you've got with Java and stop trolling arround. You can do amazing things with J2ME (even with midp1) - don't worry - things and features will become more and powerful - be happy.
    don't worry - be happy

You are all kidding about this right?
Really, you do all know it's ENTIRELY down to product placement - ie: paid for advertising - rather than any "cool" factor, don't you?
I just can't believe there are intelligent people out there who still don't know that. I mean: why would a high profile pop star or the producer of a multi-million dollar movie feature a (usually entirely irrelevant) piece of technology in their product for free when they could get hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it?
It's not even like it's subtle anymore: have you seen how much product placement Apple have bought in Californication? Every other scene has someone using a powerbook or an iPod or at least talking about it.
Favourite line from the last one I saw: "Do you know (some **bleep**py album)? I'll gift it to you on your iPod."

  • Gigaframe L81 doesn't play sound in videos shot by Nokia phone. Can Q81 do?

    Hi All.
My parents have bought Gigaframe L81 photo frame.
My mother tried to use the photoframe to watch the videos shot by her Nokia phone. And the problem was that no sound was reproduced by the photoframe
As far as I know, newer Nokia phones shoot videos in the following format
    Video: MPEG4 Video 640x480
    Audio: AAC 48000Hz mono 768Kbps
When I look at the Gigaframe L80 & L81 features at the off. cite
    http://www.toshiba.eu/photoframe/detailsl80.htm
I see that it is said to support only Audio: MP3
At the same time Gigaframe Q80 & Q81 claim to support more sound codecs:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/photoframe/detailsq80.htm
    Audio: MP3, AAC, OGG
So I have the following questions:
    1) Are Q80 & Q81 actually more superior models than L80 & L81 ? My parents thought that L80 & L81 are better models, since they have a bigger screen. They thought that L80 & L81 should have more features. But it seems that Q80 & Q81 support more sound formats...
    2) Does Q80 & Q81 actually support AAC & support AAC audio streams in MP4 video files ?
    3) How can I know if Toshiba is going to add AAC support to L80 & L81 ? Or maybe my parents should sell their L81 and buy Q81 or something else ?
My parents are not going to use the software which comes on the CD to convert their videos, because first the software is too difficult for them, the other reason is that it takes time to convert the videos to formats supported by the frame and that means that all benefits from using a frame over a PC are gone...

    Hello yura-v,
    I am a Gigaframe L81 user also.
I asked the Toshiba Support Team, if there will be released a firmware update or something else.
They told me no. Toshiba is not going to add AAC support to L80 & L81 at the moment.
If Q80 & Q81 actually support AAC & support AAC audio streams in MP4 video files, I could not say sure, because I am only an owner of a Gigaframe L81.
I think the best way is, your parents should buy an Q80 or 81 and test this.
If this both doesn´t support the AAC streams they could give back the frame within 14 days.
If they support the AAC they can sell their L81 frame and keep the Q80 or Q81.
    best regards

I am planning to buy a Nokia phone with following features:

    2. Good picture Quality
    3. Easy to load pictures into PC and vice verca also.
    2. Video recording with best resolution
    3. Email msg sending
    4. Stereo speakers
    5. FM Stereo Radio
    6. MP3 ringtones/Downloadable
    7. Easy to transfer data into PC and vice verca also without any problem.
    8. Good memory (At least 64 MB)
    9. GPRS
    10. Bluetooth
    11. USB Port
    12. MP3 Player with best Quality and Sound
    13. Good Battery life.
Please suggest me which phone should I buy?
(Actually I am planning to buy Nokia 6233).
Will this phone perfact for all above features.
Please make sure there shouldn't be any problem with any feature.
    Please suggest me.
Your advice/reply would help me in buy the phone.
    Thanks
    Deepak

The 6233 is a great phone with the latest firmware installed but the original firmware is very buggy. You should check the firmware version currently installed on the phone before you buy by inserting the battery and pressing *#0000# on the phone. The phone will then display the installed firmware version. The original very buggy firmware is v. 3.70. I wouldn't buy a 6233 with that firmware unless you are prepared to immediately go to a Nokia Care Center to get the firmware upgraded which they will do for free. The latest firmware is 4.91. I had tons of problems with 3.70 but so far 4.91 has been fine. (Except for the display backlight timeout not being adjustable which is something intentional (and very stupid) that Nokia did.) I hope they get sued over it when it causes a motor vehicle accident.
    Currently using 6300 & 6233 (backup)

  • How can I simply send audio messages via text, not just to people who have iphones, even basic Nokia phones allow this function? Am I missing something here? IPHONE 6

How do I on IPHONE 6 have audio message option not just have the option it seems for other people with Iphones. Even Nokia phones have this very BASIC function/? Also how can you BULK DELETE Emails, I get hundreds of junk ones per day, and simply want to go, Select ALL or SELECT ALL READ and then press DELETE ONCE not hundreds of times????

No, basic Nokia phones do not, and have never had a function to easily send audio messages universally. SMS is a carrier feature and uses a very basic transfer mechanism and works only for short, 160-character messages. Through software, some phones later allowed you to type longer messages that the device then broke up seamlessly and sent as multiple SMS messages. MMS is another carrier service developed to be able to transport multimedia like audio and pictures. Again, very basic transfer and usually slow and low quality. Both of these are again, operator services. Your iPhone can send those messages to non-iPhone users using standard carrier services.
On the other hand, your iPhone Messages app uses your iPhone data plan - not unlike your home Internet service - to transfer audio, video and images through Apple's iMessage service. Other services exist that do something similar - WhatsApp for example - which also requires both the sender and recipient to use their app for the service to work.
As for email, Meg is correct. Your email provider is the first line of defense against spam. You should adjust your filters. That said, iOS Mail app had a delete all function, but not in places where it can do more harm than good - i.e. the Inbox. It is present only in the Junk and Trash folders where, presumably, your email provider or you have already been through some decision making process and deemed those emails acceptable to be deleted en masse.

  • Which is the best 5 M.P nokia phone ?

i wanna know about the best 5 m.p nokia phone in terms of photo shoot.....

    There, you go …
75 models. And flip a coin because I do not know what defines ‘best’.
Personally, I wouldn’t look at the megapixels but whether it has Auto-Focus and a Flash light. Because you asked the question here in the Feature-Phone area (operating system: Series 40), you’ll end-up with those 10 models. If you do not care about Auto-Focus and insist on your 5 MP, you end-up with these 6 models. Now we merge these two lists and end up with: Nokia 6700 classic < Nokia 6600i classic < Nokia 6260 slide. My personal ranking. The Nokia 6260 slide made me very, very happy thanks to its Carl-Zeiss Tessar.

  • Do older models always lag behind/run slow?

The reason why I ask is I currently have an iPhone 4S. I got it in July of 2012 right before the iPhone 5 came out. After iOS 7 came out I noticed performance decreases. I don't think I had any major performance issues before 7.
My question is, do older models of Apple products lag behind when they release updates? I want to buy the new iPad mini and want to keep and use it for years to come(more than 2) but I am concerned if it will start showing performance issues when Apple starts releasing updates.
How good is an Apple product before someone has to upgrade? Do the older models lag badly or is this just an IOS 7 issue..

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Oracle calendar with Nokia phones

I am planning to buy a Nokia phone (e.g. 6230i). One for me important application is the calendar, and I want to be able to use it in combination with the Oracle calendar I use at work.
This is for me the best case scenario:
I plug in my phone to my laptop at work and the phone and the laptop will synchronize automatically, and it will do so untill the end of the day when I go home. This way, I always have an up-to-date calendar with me.
So far, I have not been able to get good information about the possibilities. I find a lot of information on palm tops and pocket pc's, but I doubt it that I am the only one who wants to us the Oracle calendar with a mobile phone.
Please let me know what software to use, and (just as important) where to find it.
    Thank you,
    Marco Bouwkamp

Aside from Lumia 1520 and Lumia Icon, this feature is also available on Lumia 930, 630, 630 Dual SIM, and Lumia 635. Hope this helps.

  • Making programs for nokia phones which have symbian operating system

    hi
I want to make program for nokia phones.I wrote a program for pc general application and i want to change it for mobile phones. Please inform me about how to make program for mobile phones step by step?
    thanks for your replies.

    frknml
If your PC application is in java and suitable for the limitations of CLDC / MIDP, I really don't see any barrier -- of course, you may have to sacrifice much of the layout and possibly some of the functionality. Hard to say without knowing exactly what you have in mind.
Simple core java classes require no conversion and can be adopted into your mobile app. MIDlet is the basic application class, roughly (only roughly) corresponding to Applet for larger platforms.
So... I'm assuming that you're already reasonably famililar with the java language and syntax, and have a worked with a code editor and / or IDE. If that is the case, I would suggest you download and install NetBeans (if you don't already have it) and work through some of the mobility tutorials.
    www.netbeans.org/downloads/
The javadocs for jsr-118 (included with NB) will also help. More complete docs and code samples are available in plenty, google java j2me CLDC MIDP sample codes.
For Nokia-specific features, you may want to download the Nokia SDK and integrate it into NetBeans. Series 60 SDK 2.0 for Symbian OS is available at
    http://software.techrepublic.com.com/download.aspx?docid=78818
    (and many other places)
But I strongly recommend that you focus on device-independent applications, and use device-specific features only where absolutely necessary.
Hey - I'd never used java before (I do have experience in various other programming languages) and I had a centimetre-inch convertor up and running on my Motorola handset just 2 days after installing NetBeans.
You know java, you may do better :-)
    All the best, Darryl
Note: Download WTK 2.5 separately and integrate into NetBeans, the WTK 2.2 which comes bundled with NB has a few bugs :-(
