Nokia Photos & Lifeblog

PC Platform : Windows XP pro with SP3
Nokia Phone N76
Nokia PC Suite Ver 7.0.9.2
Nokia Photos Ver 1.5.242
Nokia Lifeblog Ver 2.5.224
Nokia Ovi Ver 1.1
Hmmmmmm Where to start ...... Lets start with Ovi Suite - I downloaded this new software on the basis that it was the recommended product in preference to Nokia PC suite which I had been using prior to this download on the 4th Nov 2008.
1. Ovi Suite is NOT a replacement for PC Suite. I have an email from Nokia support telling me so and that its OK to run BOTH sets of software. BUT the POINT of MY email to them was I DO NOT WANT to cluter my PC up with 100s of 'ragtail' Nokia software products - I want all the functionality encapsulated in one product which is why both these Nokia products are supposed to do by NAMING their products ' Nokia xxxx SUITE ' (the key word being SUITE)
2. I used Nokia LIFEBLOG under Nokia PC suite extensively. All my SMS text messages are saved and stored because I use this DATA for business communications. SMS is a record just like an email. It is invaluable to me to have an accurate record of ALL my SMS text messages. I was experiencing problems with Lifeblog NOT transfering ALL my SMS messages from the phone to Nokia PC suite. New messages not previously transfered to my PC were not picked up by the Lifeblog software as being needed to be transfered to my computer. I still dont know why it doesnt recognise these messages. Is there some sort of 'flag' put on the message in the phone data ? Why cant I CHOOSE which INDIVIDUAL Messages that I want transfered. AND why cant I set a control to transfer the message from the phone to the PC MORE than ONCE. (For instance I may inadvertantly have deleted a record of an SMS message on Lifeblog but the message is still in the phone memory and I want to transfer that message again - but there is NO way that I can see to do this
3. Lifeblog as a seperate application (add on) to PC Suite was great in is concept BUT under Ovi Suite it NO longer shows as an application in its OWN right but MYSTERIOUSLY it is part of Nokia Photos!!! WHY WHY WHY - what the heck has SMS text messages got to do with Photos ???? I do not know how many BILLIONS of SMS text messages are sent around the world each day using NOKIA phones but I would guarantee that the number of SMS text messages out numbers the number of Photos stored on an individual phone by at least 100,000 to 1 - (ie 100,000 SMS text stored per 1 Photo) SO COME ON Nokia put some priority BACK into SMS Text message data storage, retrival and dta management
4 Because Ovi Suite is new software (and by the way it CONVERTS Lifeblog SMS text messages before storing them under 'Nokia Photos Timeline' This implies that the file format for Nokia Lifeblog and Ovi Photos Timeline are DIFFERENT and therefore INCOMPATIBLE with each other. There is NO way that I KNOW OF to copy the SMS text messages to Nokia Photos Timeline AND then copy the same messages to Nokia PC Suite Lifeblog. - Why would I want to do that ? - well quite simply if I decide that Ovi Suite is a BAD product then I will want to continue to use Nokia PC Suite Lifeblog WITHOUT loosing ANY stored data.
5 My overriding concern with BOTH products is that I have an ACCURATE and DEFINATIVE record of my SMS text messages. And if you think this is stupid or odd then just think what you would do if you had NO RECORD of IMPORTANT emails. You would be pulling your hair out especially as the MOBILE phone is as important to businesses as is the computer - SO NOKIA please please get your act together. It seems to me that 2 different sets of Nokia software programmers are developing 2 DIFFERENT products that supposed to do and achieve the SAME thing for the end USER. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TALENT AND RESOURCE AND MONEY = GIVE THE USER CHOICE and MANAGEMENT Capabilites OF all THEIR data AND allow THE user TO store, backup AND KEEP AN accutrate record of THEIR PERSONAL information store BOTH on the PC and on the Nokia Phone. IF it is NOT your mission statment to do this then WHY o WHY do you produce Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Ovi Suite programs - PC to Phone Syncronisation should be effective and accurate and MANAGEABLE for ALL STORED DATA where on the phone OR on the PC - COME ON make your product work for your clients
6 Perhaps one of the most infuriating aspects of bespoke software development is the way software programmers from ALL providers insist upon having background system task loaded into PC memory utilising VITAL PC resouces even if that software program is not being used by the PC user at that precise moment in time. Now that I have loaded OVI Suite if I look at my background system processes on my PC I find that I have multiple Nokia Software programs hogging PC resources and MEMORY even when I am NOT using them - COME ON YOU LAZY programmers there must be a better way to develop your software. After all its OUR MONEY your playing with forcing us to buy MORE memory/harddisk storage space when in actual fact WE DONT NEED IT - AT LEAST give the USER the choice to have these background programs loaded and running or NOT to have them running.
This post is all negative which is a REAL REAL pity but it states the FACTS and NOKIA need to do something about there product implementation - RIGHT NOW

Hi,
I dont have answers for all your queries, but still i want to share a little.
1) OVI Suite is not a replacement for PC suite.
Yes atleast for near future till nokia comes up with all applications bundled under one umbrella (Having all the applications of Nokia PC Suite + Nokia OVI Suite). As of now not all the devices are supported by Nokia OVI Suite except NSeries and some other phones. It has to think of Users who are using Mac too.
2) If storing messages safely on your PC is the main concern means then, you can install Nokia Communication Centre which is part of Nokia PC Suite 7.0.x.x and above, which will store your messages to the PC. You can also use Content copier to backup the messages and install Noki software to view what exactly got stored on backup file(.nbu). It is unwritten law (Correct me if i am wrong), data(image/video/Text message/Multimedia message/Sound files) which is synced with Nokia lifeblog will not sync again with Nokia photos and vice versa Reason behind this could may be to avoid redundancy (Chances are there files may be duplicated twice which may lead to more memory space on your PC) This is my assumption. To conclude data synced once with Nokia lifeblog cannot be (re)synched again with Nokia Photos and vice versa as well as with same software which you have synced already. One way of doing this for images and videos could be sync images with lifeblog and then mark those as favorites and then sync it again with nokia photos, then it may sync twice.
3) Lifeblog is not shown in Nokia OVI Suite. OVI Suite do have option to import the data from lifeblog, this may be because, nokia lifeblog is going to be replaced by Nokia photos. If you observe earlier Nseries phones will have lifeblog on the phone N73, N76 etc, but Nokia N 78 has got Nokia photos built in along with the device instead of lifeblog(device). Yes i do agree about sms part, as i mentioned earlier, if storing the messages safely on your pc is your main concern means, you can use Nokia communicaton centre.
These are my comments as an user of Nokia pc softwares. Sure your comments will be a constructive feedback for those who are developing nokia softwares.

  • Problems with Nokia Photos (Lifeblog)

I have been using Lifeblog 2.5 on my PC running on Windows XP sp2 for more than 2 years and was very pleased with how this software worked. I regularly used it to transfer both photos and videos from my N80 and N95 to my pc. When Lifeblog was premium software I paid for the full version.
I had a problem with my PC and had to perform a destructive recovery on the C drive of my pc. I then tried to download the Lifeblog program again from Nokia only to be met with a SORRY greeting. So i was able to find the Nokia Photos software which I downloaded and installed. I then imported my Back up files from Lifeblog.
The problem with Nokia Photos is Videos do not play. Only SMS and Photos can be viewed even though I have ticked all the boxes.
I think that Nokia must have some problems with Lifeblog and Nokia Photos. Any help as to how I may be able to get it to work as well as it was before would be greatly appreciated.

I have since reinstalled all the XP framework software and it seems to work fine now.
    Thanks for your advice.

  • BRING BACK/UPDATE NOKIA PHOTOS / LIFEBLOG! OVI IS ...

I lost my n97 last week and have now had to get n8,has great hardware but unfortunately it wont work with nokia photos or suite which was by far the best way of storing my photos texts videos on a timeline with geotagging. I had 3 years worth of this lifeblog (30gb!) which has now ended so I have to put up with this rubbish Ovi which doesn't compare , unfortunately there isn't ANY software or other kind of phone that does what nokia photos did. Please nokia, make the n8 compatible with Nokia photos it can't be that hard.

Nokia made a mistake in making the N8 incompatibled with Lifeblog /Nokia Photos . It is obvious that a product which has excellent camera etc should have followed the life tools concept.I have discarded my newly bought N8 and gone back (forward actually) by buying a new condition N95 , which is compatible, at a reasonable price.I feel like Nokia has "punished" loyal followers like myself and their image to me has suffered a lot.

  • Nokia Photos wont open/load. help! (Event Details...

    Hey guys!
First off, I really, really need this data to be recovered so any help would be appreciated....ok so....
In short: I have a n95 8gb. I store texts, messages, etc on Lifeblog/Photos.  I was using Nokia Lifeblog until they made us download Nokia Photos. Since then I've used Nokia Photos.  Now apparently Ovi's the new thing and Photos support ended.
When I open Photos, nothing happens after the splashscreen.  I've tried installing the latest version; didnt work. I restored it back to the old.  Here is the Windows Event Log.  I run Windows XP Pro SP 3.  Please help me figure out what this means and how to fix it..
Thank you in advance!  Any help in helping me to find the destination files for the  text messages or opening the program with be greatly appreciated!

    Hi melvinpereira,
Which operating system you are using? Xp/Vista? 32 or 64 bit?
If you want to make backup of all your phone entries, why donot you try Content Copier of Nokia PC Suite 7.0.8.2???

  • Nokia Photos - Is anybody still using it?

More and more people think Ovi Suite has lost its focus - to become the main software to manage a Nokia phone. I do not know what went wrong with it - perhaps the need to create a software that is simple to configure/use, comparing to Nokia PC Suite, but it's clear to me, this is not what Ovi Suite is...
Although, I admit that using Nokia software was not always so frustrating: I do remember how I felt when I first used Nokia Lifeblog - later it became Nokia Photos. I had paid in order to use it when it came out - still, I have no remorse for it - because the idea of managing your phone content over a timeline was amazing! When Nokia Lifeblog was replaced with Nokia Photos, for a moment I thought that's it; I would not be able to manage my phone's content anymore. Nevertheless, the misleading name, had nothing to do with what the software was offering...
Today, a friend suggested to see KIN.com - I was amazed with KIN Studio - a Nokia Lifeblog/Nokia Photo replica in Silverlight, that is offered for Windows Mobile powered phones. It looks like that Microsoft found the "phone content over timeline" idea more interesting, and they are investing on it - Nokia that originally come up with the idea is done with it, as Nokia Photos is an "archived" application!
Is anybody still using Nokia Photos? Does anyone think that the "phone content over timeline" idea should be something Nokia should be invest on, and this would be the idea to use for a software like Ovi Suite?
    Regards,
    George J.

    Hey George,
I like the concept but, like everything else Nokia does, its just poor execution.  They started Lifeblog, ok cool. Then came Photos; ok same concept. Now they've completely ditched Photos and gone to Ovi suite.  They dont get the fact that people want to archive there data, not just switch to the latest gimmick.  At least offer an effective way to smoothly transfer data.  Argh!! so frustrating!
I have my earlier data on Lifeblog and my latest data on Photos (thank god I didn't merge the two).  Photos wont open anymore  And Nokia is pathetically useless in the matter.  There market share worldwide will diminish pretty soon, thanks to Google and Apple

  • Using Nokia Photos... E71... Not Synchronising SMS...

    Good Evening All!
I've recently upgraded my N95 to an E71, and made the change from LifeBlog to Nokia Photos - as the E71 doesn't support LifeBlog...
After several attempts of letting Nokia Photos convert the LifeBlog database (of over 64,000 itmes), I gave up and decided to start it from scratch.
I've got Nokia Photos synching photos from my E71, but not SMSs, MMSs or Sound Clips - which is the main reason I'm using it...
If anyone can suggest where I may be going wrong, I'd be extremely grateful...
    Other information:
It's not a connection issue, as the phone is connected and Nokia Photos recognises it.
I've got the latest version of Nokia Photos, and tried reinstalling it.
The firmware version on the E71 is: 100.07.76
There is no profile set in the Sync folder on the phone as there as for LifeBlog on the N95, not sure whether that makes any difference.
    Nokia History: 3110, 5110, 7110, 7110, 3510i, 6210, 6310i, 5210, 6100, 6610, 7250, 7250i, 6650, 6230, 6230i, 6260, N70, N70, 5300, N95, N95, E71, E72
Android History: HTC Desire, SE Xperia Arc, HTC Sensation, Sensation XE, One X+, Google Nexus 5

Nokia Photos can handle only the videos and images. All other stuff is handled by PC Suite for backup and viewing purposes - except the sound clips which can be synced by Nokia Music. Unfortunately, there is no Nokia solution for all-in-one for SMS, clips and images.

  • Delete downloaded photos in Nokia Photo

The new Nokia Nseries PC Suite comes with a new photo download program called Nokia Photos. How do you configure Nokia Photos to remove photos/videos from the phone after you have downloaded them to your PC?
The previous program in the Nokia PC Suite had such a configuration option. I can't seem to find it in the new Nokia Photos.

Thanks, just realized the similarity between Nokia Photos and Lifeblog extends to the phone software too. I was troubleshooting a problem: Nokia Photos stopped seeing new photos stored in my phone. Then I notice the Lifeblog software in the phone also stopped showing new photos that I've captured... not until I click Update Timeline. Then, the PC's Nokia Photos also saw the photos. Eventually I rebooted my phone and it was automatic again...
I wonder... is Nokia Photos then intended to replace Lifeblog?

  • Nokia Photos error : exception has been thrown by ...

I have two computers and installed on both Nokia Photos. On the Vista-Home PC I get the error message. The first time I ran Nokia Photos there was no problem. The phone synchronized ok. The second time it crashed and it keeps on crashing as soon I (re0 start the program.
    My phone is a N82.
The XP-professional computer is ok. The problem does not occur.
Anybody know how to solve this problem ?
Re-installing did not solve the prooblem, neither using Nseries suite 1.6 or 2.0. I tried both......
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi,
I too have recently purchased an N95 8GB and have tried using the latest Nokia Photo Software.
I have downloaded the latest version from the website only yesterday (19th July 2008 - Version 1.2.50.00) along with the latest version of the PC Suite Software (Version 7.0.7.0). The software appeared to open fine, and started to import all 23,000 items from my previous Lifeblog Software. When it eventually finished it said it had encountered errors and then listed them, and then another error occured stating that a more detailed report was in the Windows Error log, and closed the program.
I have tried reinstalling the program, running reg scans to completely remove it, and have even renamed my lifeblog database however still loads the old import and then crashes with the same issue. Error log in Event Viewer is as follows.
The description for Event ID ( 100 ) in Source ( Nokia Photos ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Title:NokiaPhotos Exception Handling

  • Nokia Life Blog Nokia Photos and Nseries PC Suite...

    Hi
    I'm a power user and own N95.
I try to install almost all available applications on PC related to my mobile.
So I installed PC Suite 7 and using the same successfully.
But now I installed Nokia Photos (latest name of Nokia Life Blog, as they say). The same installed correctly, but when I run it, it gives the error on the splash screen itself (something like "Nokia Photos has encountered a problem and needs to close").
I've tried uninstalling, then rebooting, and then reinstalling/repairing etc.
    2. When I try to install NSeries PC Suite (after exiting-- not uninstalling-- normal PC Suite V7), I get some error in the end of installation: "NNPCSUI has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
    Any clue?
Wish#1: MP3 Tag Editor capable of editing ratings.
Wish#2: Android type Video player, highly efficient player capable of playing all formats.
Wish#3: Without Google Maps (and products), no gadget is worth keeping.

    Hi zopfan,
Could you please confirm your PC details??? What all you have uninstalled already from your PC? You have informed that you have uninstalled Nokia NSeries PC Suite? So you can decide which applications you are going to use? If you want to send SMS and contact editor please do stick with Nokia PC Suite 7.0.7.0 or you can install Nokia NSeries PC suite on your PC or you can also install Nokia OVI Suite too. As far as i know, you can have both the PC suites on your PC without any issues. To resolve your issue, you can uninstall Nokia PC Suite, PC Connectivity solution, Nokia Connectivity cable driver, Run some reliable PC Suite cleaner, which will clean unwanted registried from your PC. Then you install any of the three PC Suite
    Nokia PC Suite 7.0.7.0 or
Nokia NSeries PC Suite 2.0.262.0 or
Nokia OVI Suite 1.0 depending on your need.
Then try to install Nokia Photos on your PC reboot the system and then try :0 You can follow in the same discussion forum for your nokia photos and lifeblog issues, as some of the issues were discussed already in this forum, or google and check for the posts related to Nokia photos and nokia lifeblog

  • Nokia Photos 'Timeline Corruption'

    Hi Folks
I have installed the latest version of Nokia Photos Application on my Windows XP PC; upon first use I was asked if I wanted to import data from LifeBlog Application - which I did - and when I now view my text messages in the Photos Timeline tab they are all corrupted and unreadable.
Does anyone know a way of resetting this and importing them again? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but neither have proven successful - just bring up the same corrupted list.
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,
There is a little "trick" that you can do to get the items to be synchronized again. Select the items that you want to be synchronized with your phone's Lifeblog and mark them as favorites (Options -> Make favourite). Now synchronize the phone with Nokia Photos (or PC Lifeblog) and the items are transferred to PC. After synchronization you can remove the favorite status of those items (PC and phone).
The trick here is that you must modify somehow the items metadata in phones Lifeblog. This will trigger that those items are send to pc when the phone is next time synchronized. The change could also be some other modification of metadata than making items favourites (e.g. change the title), but personally I think the "favorite trick" is the easiest way to do it.

  • Nokia Photos questions

I really am upset about Nokia Photos, the way it was before I decided to update ("Never touch a running system", I have to remember it for good man) everything was exactely as I liked it to be and now I am "using" Nokia Photos and can't deal with it, so:
What I want is the following: Connect my phone to the PC, do as little clicks as possible to sync my taken photos from the mobile to the PC in a structure like somedir/YYYYMMDD/12345678.jpg, have the program/mobile automatically delete my images on the device and be done.
This worked like a charm before, I could tell the previous PC Suite (or whatever specific part was responsible for it) to start copying the images from my device once I plugged in the phone, store them as specified above in dirs with year, month AND day and have the removed from the device.
And then I decided it would be a good idea to update and now I have to use some useless Lifeblog thing (I have no clue what it exactely is for, I just know I hate to be forced using features I don't care about) which is unable to delete the photos on my device and best of all, it comes with about 3 settings total, none of them being "Delete photos after syncing" or something equal, no options for a path, no options for how I'd like the dir to be named, nada.
So: How to avoid using Lifeblog (block would be more precise here, prevents me from going on with my life for just enough minutes to hate it) or at least make using it more bearable by making it behave how I want?

    Hi,
Which handset are you using? If you dont want to sync lifeblog, you can do so from the device itself. May be once, your phone is known, forum can check further about your post.

I used to have nokia lifeblog and all these problems never happened there.

  • Nokia Photos Missing SMS

I have installed Nokia Photos as part of newest version of OVI in my PC.
Have synchronised, but deleted some sms entries in Nokia Photos.
When I hook up my mobile with PC, the same sms cannot be synchronised anymore.
Message was "sync completed", but the sms was not there.
Anyway I can "force" Nokia Photos to re-sync the deleted sms?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    What i tried is
First i synched Nokia N95 8 gb data with Nokia photos and then backup-ed messages alone and then deleted those messages from the phone and did soft resetting on my phone
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=149
then i tried to sync the same device with Nokia photos, its not synching the same messages again.  If you have any other similar device(which has got lifeblog/photos on the phone to sync), then you can restore your nokia n95 8gb messages to the other phone
[Please do make sure that the other phone was not synched with your nokia photos already ]
Once the messages are restored to the other phone, sync it with Nokia photos so that you can get the complete SMS on your pc.  There may be some other easy work around also than this, if any, i will contact again

  • Nokia photos: synchronization cancelled

After update the new 30.019 firmware in my N85, I'm not able to synchronize the phone with Nokia Photos.
The message, when trying to sync, is: "Synchronization cancelled" without error's detail.
If I try to open "Settings" from Nokia Photos, I get an "Updating nokia device view" on the bottom and then the program freeze (must kill the process with task manager).
I use Nokia Photos from 2004 (when it was LifeBlog with license ID), and it's important for me to have all pics/movies/sms stored in my pc.
I saw few topic about this argument (with different phones), but no one reply to solve it.
    Any suggestion?

Factory settings reset. In standby, dial *#7780# and the phone's security code (the nokia's default security code is 12345). This reset restores phone's original settings.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's security code. Soft reset deletes ALL your phone's data.
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.
For 5800 XM hard reset need different keys/buttons. The green/talk key, the red key and the camera key/button. The process is the same.Warning!Hard reset deletes ALL your phone's data/files!
And, for N97 go to /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=158831&query.id=591236#M158831

  • Nokia Photos cant synchronize with my N95

    Hi all
I used to use Nokia Lifeblog extensively to organize my multimedia from my N95 into my PC, but ever since I updated Nokia Lifeblog to Nokia Photos, the program gives an error when i try to synchronize any new media from my phone....Can any1 suggest wat to do? Can i reinstall Nokia Lifeblog on my phone in any way? The exact error it gives is:
Nokia Photos encountered synchronizing ur Nokia device and PC. Check the connection and start again. If the problem persists, restrt Nokia Photos and try again.
I tried reinstalling Nokia Photos but it gave the same error.
Can some1 pls suggest wat to do.....

Wondering if you found a fix for this problem. My nokia photo's will not sync either (even though the n95 is connected.) is it possible my lifeblog files got corrupted on my phone because everything from when I got the phone is in lifeblog on the n95? Is there any other way to tranfer the data to nokia photo's maybe a work around? in my event log it states:
"The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Nokia Photos ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Synchronization failed.
    Exeption type:
    Nokia.NokiaPhotos.ClassLibrary.MPlatformException
    Exception message:
External component has thrown an exception."
on my old computer everything worked fine, lifeblog synced and there was no missing driver errors. I updated the time line and marked everything as favorites...tried to install dpinst.exe from the pc connectivity folder and there is a driver failed ton install error. I'm at the end of my rope. Any help would be greatly aprreciated.
