Nokia search on 5800

i loved the nokia search program on previous S60 series phones it was great for hunting down content and for looking for text messages from say one contact but i see that now the nokia search bundled with the 5800 only allows you to search using google yahoo and another one i forget. so is nokia search only for searching the internet for? or do i need to update the search version
i hope i just needs updating otherwise that was daft taking away such a handy function

no it doesnt unfortunately psychomania and i am with o2 in the UK so i have a feeling it maybe a while until i get the update! but i appreciate you letting me know its fixed in a firmware update, i suspected as much this maybe the case but my searches didnt really find anything and before i even put all my new settings onto the phone i did a software update check.
alas nevermind now i must play teh waiting game kudos sir!

Nokia Search cannot find the items on my phone

The Nokia Search function seems to fail to find items on my phone. This happens to Contacts, Email, Calendar, Notes. And the failure is consistent. Is there some indexing process I have to go through before the Search function would know how to search the whole phone?
I would think one of the most important feature for a smartphone is the search own data function. It that doesn't work, well, then the phone is not very smart, is it?

Had a long discussion with Nokia Care....
i wanted to search for phone-numbers, sometimes it finds, sometimes not.
Ended up with the information, that obviously only the first entered number (regardless which type or category) is included in the search...
So if i first enter mobile-number, then home-phone... it would only find the mobile-number. If i first enter home-phone, then mobile... it would never find the mobile... only the home-phone.
Latest firmware seems not to solve the problem.
So in my eyes... the search-function is very very weird...

E90 and Nokia Search program

Sorry about all the posts all of a sudden, but I'm new to this device and things may not be as obvious as they are to some...
I installed the free Nokia Search program using the "Download!" program on the phone. Going by the web site and some screenshots, it's supposed to put a text field onto the "Today" screen as a plugin, allowing quick access to a handful of search engines.
Problem is, it doesn't. Why?
The E90 is listed as compatible.

I have just installed this prog on my E90 and it does not seem to be the same facitities as shown on the web site.

Here in Finland there are Local search Web and Image search
A Maps Viewer..that refuses to load via WiFI WLAN..it will only access the server via Internet Service.

Anybody know of a s40 application that can search local content on the phone just like the Nokia Search s60?
I have a 6500 classic and it has a pre installed nokia search but it only searches using web Yahoo..
I have seen some screenshots that the s60 version can search content locally (sms, gallery, calendar ,etc.) but i cant find this feature on s40..
anybody know an alternative? or a version that can do that?

Jailbreaking will not help you with that. It is a matter of what vendors are dealing wheat suppliers, they aggrements they have in place, and the content they can get, and where (geographically) they can provide it. Other than iTunes, Apple has no control over that (and limited control even then).
I've been using an app called CanIStream.It for a while. Not always 100% accuratre, but has helped to find some content. I think they have a corresponding website, but not sure.

Problem in Nokia Search

Nokia search application is not giving me any option to search in phone data. Application Version is 2.27. I tried updating it to latest version i.e. 4.0 but during installation It asked me to uninstall previous version. I searched but not found a way to uninstall it (tried with application manager & in options at search icon).
I am having latest version of firmware for my phone(3.83.21 for 5700). Nokia care people are not able to provide any answer.
Any suggestions. How to uninstall it.

U should create Backup of ur Phone.
Then Try Hard REset of ur Phone memory.

No local search in Nokia Search v4.0

Updated my N95 to the latest firmware (v20) and with it the new Nokia Search v4.0. However there is no local search (no yellow pages) what ever region i choose.
Without local search the search function seems almost useless!
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Urgh, i know the feeling, decided to do the update to version 4.0 on my older firmware n95 and thought it was pretty useless now compared to the local search yellow pages (which was actually really very useful!)

5630 Nokia Search or equivalent

Hi!
I'm trying to figure out if I'm able to use Nokia Search or something equivalent for my 5630 XpressMusic mobile phone.
What I am trying to achieve is the ability to search through my address book/contacts based on First name, last name, nickname company name, etc and as far as I can figure out it's only possible to search by First and last name.
There are ways around this, like adding the company name to the last name or variants like that, but I'd like to be able to use an application such as Nokia Search if it's at all possible.
Has anyone tried this, or know of a contact manager for the 5630 that can do this?

unfortunately due to the software and how the music player works in S40 devices (i have a 5610 btw so i am in the same boat), you can't search for albums/artists/songs by first letter. however, if looking at music files through the normal memory card explorer in Apps, you can search by first letter . furthermore, i do not know if they will address this issue in future software updates.

Nokia Search doesn't work offline anymore

I have the Nokia Search application on my E61 which I rarely use to search online, but rather to search for content on my phone - mostly I use it as an alternative way to browse my contacts.
Lately, though, the application asks me if I want to "always allow/allow once/don't allow" Internet access and when I select "don't allow" like I have always done, I'm told that "Search plugins for this region are not available" and the whole thing closes down again.
I've already tried reinstalling. What else can I do?

Hi! Nokia 5310 has a Java version of Nokia Search and a Java Wallpaper Creator. The Java version of Nokia Search is available for all S40 5th edition phones, but the official Nokia Search site provides download link only for the Symbian version. Does anyone know where can I download these?

Dreaming of a 5320XpressMusic - 128MB RAM makes up for the 2MP cam !

It works on some devices but not all. The latest version of MfE (2.5.x) has different SIS packages for different families of devices. I would guess that there's a better chance of this feature working with this version for this reason.

When you switch on your device for the first time, the access points may be configured automatically based on the service provider information in your SIM card. Otherwise contact your operator or service provider to receive the access point settings if you cannot find it..

Gmail and nokia messaging client - 5800

I've had my 5800 for a couple of weeks now and when I got it I set up my gmail account with the built in email client under messaging. Everything was working fine. Since yesterday I have not been able to get any new emails to show up on my phone. I've deleted and re-added the mail box and old messages show up and I can view older emails but no new ones? I've checked all of my gmail settings, and I do in fact have new emails sitting there but no joy.
Any ideas?

I don't use nokia messaging, find the standard email client works faultlessly and also use the MSN app which gives me a hotmail box just like computer. I removed Nokia Messaging as I prefer the extra space on C. Good Luck

Nokia Maps on 5800 XM keeps shutting down on start...

Hi everyone,
I bought the Nokia 5800 XM two weeks ago, and have been playing around with it. The Nokia maps application is really cool until recently, when everytime i start the maps application, it just shuts down automatically. I never get a chance to connect to the internet with it, or navigate using the touch screen. I recently installed nokia map loader as well and installed some maps, but nothing helps. The application keeps shutting down every time i start it. I also did a software reinstall using nokia software updater, but that didn't help either.
If anyone has this problem or knows how to solve it, i would be really thankful!

I am having the same problem. I've tried reloading from the Nokia site but the version there won't work - it says it is not compatible with the phone even though I selected the 5800 from the available phones list. No idea about a solution though.

An interesting article. But at least Nokia have now admitted the problems with the 5800xm.

Was that article by nokia.
Its just a write up about the phone which all phones do go thru criticisms.
Any brands or manufacturers venturing in into new technologies will go thru failures and start improvising from that starting point.
I believe nokia has not failed but has done a wonderful job with their first touch screen phone. its just the matter of time for them to improvise and fill up the loop holes and come up with a great phone like they always do.
If you really test the Samsung Omnia or the Sony Ericsons X1, it is not that perfact as well as they to do have glitches here and there.
Not only phones even car manufactures do go thru this and take this as a stepping stone to come up with better products.
At the end of the day which product you would prefer to use

N8 - Nokia search keeps crashing

So I was uninstalling some old games from my N8. Later, when I wanted to use the search program (the one that comes with the OS, grey, with the magnifying glass), it just didn't work anymore.
I click on it, it opens for 2 seconds, and the immediately closes.
Please help me.

@Kath9876 There is no guarantee it will work, it's just a step in the troubleshooting. Like in Windows, when you restart the computer to see if it helps. The 3-buzz off on the N8 is like removing the battery in a phone where the battery can be removed. Leaving the phone alone for 30 minutes or more after starting it again gives the phone a chance to run some hidden background programs and rebuild the search index, create missing thumbnails for pictures etc.
If search is the only thing not working on the N8 and you're a bit uncomfortable with the advice in the forum, then you can also leave it as it is and see if it comes to its senses on its own?
In any case you should make sure to keep a backup of important stuff on the phone, through Nokia Suite or by copying at least the photos to a computer.

Nokia express music 5800 contact number problem

I can't get my phone numbers from my phone. when i try to open the phonebook it says no contact is there. though there is contacts saved in phonebook. Even if any person call me it displays there name in Dialed,missed,recieved number list. IIf i try to open the phonebook from OVI suite 3.6.36 it does not show any contact and pop up a error message with code 80700506. If i do backup it shows 0 contact got backed up after completetion, though other data get backed up properly.
Please help me to fix this. It is so urgent, i can n not even get some important contact numbers i need.

@kennyabs From your question what i can understand is you dont want to use nokia messaging but want to use the inbuilt email client to check your gmail messages, what i am going to suggest you is not a foolproof method but it worked for me if u have installed NM uninstall it, open inbuilt client it tries to prepare installation hit 'cancel' immediately now you should get a screen to enter a email address and next screen to enter password, after it retrieves the settings automatically.
