Nokia Suite does NOT backup map favorites. Belle ...

I recently updated my E7-00 from Anna to Belle and lost all my map favorites in the process.
Although I did a full backup of my phone before the update I have since found out that Nokia Suite does not backup map favorites.
The Belle update did NOT make a copy of my map favorites, it wiped them out completely.
Nowhere have I seen that information before.  When I updated to Anna I did not lose my map favorites.
There should be a warning about this before starting the Belle update.
The Belle Update FAQ states that after the update one of the things one can do immediately is access map favorites - NOT!
I have since learned, by searching online, that I am expected to sync my map favorites online with a Nokia server.  I do not want to store my confidential information on someone else's server.  Additionally, I don't pay for data service because it is so expensive here in Canada and I have little use for it.  So I would have to connect my phone via USB to my PC.
Nokia Suite backs up my contacts, photos, music, documents, etc.  Why not my map favorites?  In fact I store my music, photos, documents, and even contact information separate from my phone so I don't need Nokia Suite for that.  But how do I copy my GPS coordinates off my phone for backup?
2nd level tech support suggested I recreate them all by browsing the maps on my phone and selecting the locations.  That is so inaccurate, time consuming, and wrong.  Supposedly they have passed my problem on to 3rd level tech support.
Does anyone know if one can import map coordinates into a symbian phone?  I have some of the locations stored in another GPS application on a laptop.  I can export them from there.  That would be a partial solution.
Thanks.

I might suggest a Wi-Fi connection for access to the 'net, but let me assume that storing anything on a different server is not an option.  So, what remains...
The least expensive, and simplest, method would be for you to buy any second Nokia phone that runs Nokia Maps.  I use Nokia's Phone Switch technology to transfer all my maps data to a second phone.  I'll have to do it again, so I can give you specific instructions on the "how", but the bottom line is it does work.
As to importing and exporting GPS Coordinates, I learned by accident that you can enter favorites by using GPS coordinates - and can also find the coordinates for something you have already entered.
A free program that I think is invaluable for using Maps on a Nokia, especially the N8, is "LeGPSData2".  I used their older version for years, until the certificate expired and I was unable to upload it to my N8, but the new version is considerably better.  You might find a way to do other things you mentioned with that program - and if not, you might suggest them (import/export) to the program author.
If you are as careful as you suggest you are, don't you have backups that you've already done on your PC?  Have you tried to find your GPS data in those backups?
I can't speak for others, but regardless of what Nokia saiys would or woud not happen during the phone update, I don't "trust" any of it.  I did my own backups two ways, as a complete bacakup on the PC, and as a phone backup on the memory card.  I "think" but can't confirm, that the GPS data was backed up by both of them.
You're right - Nokia should fix the Belle installation script to also backup and re-install the maps data, if there is something wrong, but on my phone it did it all correctly following their instructions (in addition to my other backups, which I never needed).
If I get some free time, I'll see if I can get the import/export to work using Maps and LeGPSData2.  It would be nice to do this to one location, multiple locations, or all locations.  It would be nice to send this data to another phone directly, or to save it as a file.

  • Nokia Suite does not see saved messages

Hi! I transferred a part of the messages in my Nokia 6303 to phone' s folder Saved Messages, and since then the troubles began.
    1. I can not move any sms out of the Saved Messages folder, for example, it is not possible to send them back to Inbox folder or any place else.
    2. Nokia Suite does not see some of those saved messages- they appear as empty boxes there, despite I can read them on my phone.
Can I restore all messages downloaded to Nokia Suite, making them readable?
How can I move the sms from Saved Messages folder on my phone?
Can I tranfer sms from Saved Messages folder of my Nokia 6303 to another phone (even not Nokia)?

    Hi Nicksimper,
Welcome to the Nokia Discussion boards!
First could you do a soft reset on your phone by entering *#7780# into your phone’s keypad. The default password when prompted is 12345. This reset will NOT erase any data, but revert settings back to original. Also, ensure you have the latest firmware by visiting this page and the latest version of PC Suite by following this link here.
The following link provides extensive information for managing your messages on Nokia devices using Nokia PC suite.
In order for you to move messages out of the “Saved messages” folder, you will have to create a new folder in the same directory, but you will not able to move messages back into your inbox. To move your saved messages to another non-Nokia device, you can forward the messages via SMS.
Hope this helps and let us know how it works out.
    Regards,
    haZey

  • Why my Nokia 5230 does not load maps?

Each time I'm trying to download some more maps the phone does not agree. It closes the connection through USB and then tells that it has all maps on the memory card and actually the card does not have any maps.
There seems to be some bug in the system, when you are trying to download all maps to a 8 or 16 Gb memory card.
Personally I'd prefer a system, where I could download the maps directly to the memory card with my computer and then just put that card into my cellular phone for navigation.
Is there someone, who is able to solve my problems of downloading the maps I need and why I did originally buy just that phone???

It isn't the recommended way but it can be done. Have a look at the link below.

  • Nokia Suite does NOT restore apps installed in e: ...

Just proved this on the 808, and previously on the 700.
It backs them up but it doesn't restore them.
Apps installed on C: (which is a stupid thing to do because c: space is so limited on most Nokias) get backed up and restored OK.
Apps installed on E: get backed up but don't get restored. Their config tends to get restored, and when they are re-downloaded (assuming you can still download it and the .sis has not had its certificate expired) and reinstalled on E: their icons appear in their original place on the screen.
This is a big weakness of the Nokia Suite, because given the rate at which apps are disappearing from the Symbian scene, a lot of people will find they can't recover their backups.
I wonder if a separate backup of E: would solve this?

    hi mate,
you can leave feature feedback over at Nokia Beta Labs, as they have just pushed out a beta of the next version of Nokia Suite: http://betalabs.nokia.com

  • Nokia Suite does not offer latest phone software u...

Nokia website shows latest software for C7-00 is 111.040.1511. My phone is using 111.030.0609.
Nokia Suite (3.7.22) offers a couple of minor software additions, such as widgets, but does not show the later phone software available.
How do I get it to see and offer the latest software?
    C7-00 Vodafone UK

    6300 Vodafone UK
    6300 & N97 - resting

Availability of update depends on Product Code / Region. Also, for Network locked devices, update is possible only after an approval from the Operator.
Did you also check thru' FOTA ..(i.e. Software Update option available on your Phone - Refer P. 104 of the User Guide ) ?
If No update is available thru' both FOTA and Nokia Suite.. As per the reasons mentioned above, even if an update is released by Nokia, it need not be for your Device.

  • Nokia Suite does not support MMS and calender??

When do we get support for MMS and calendar / tasks?
It has worked in versions prior to Ovi Suite, bad not to get it to work 2012 ;-)
Nokia have posted in other forums that it is planned for several years now.

I run Nokia Suie version 3.5.34.  In this version I see symbols for MMS messages. Unfortunately The content is ZERO after I sync with my phone despite the fact that I have several hundred MMS messages in my Nokia N95 8GB.
I have also tried to establish the Smart Groups. These could in theory find my old MMS messages and sort the based on various criteria. Unfortunately this is useless since the content is still ZERO after I sync with the phone.
I have also had this problem with different Nokia software (Ovi, PC Suite). Now my phone has around 4000 SMS and MMS in it and is slow and useless. I really need a backup and organizing function that works on a PC! When I delete the messages one by one on my mobile it takes me about 45 seconds per message!!! I do not have the time and patience for this **bleep**.
    To Nokia: Can you help??

The point is most of users use Nokia suite as a safe means of software upgrade. - No, OTA is safer than using Nokia Suite since you do not overwrite the whole firmware but just the upgraded/added bits.
Besides OTA updates cost more money  than internet upgrades. - Not if you use Wifi, as recommended for OTA updates
Those who dont have 3G will have to wait for hours and keep the phone plugged in to a charger and they cant use the phone till  software upgrade is complete. - So why own a smartphone if you don't have 3G or access to Wifi ? Surely the situation you describe is the minority exception rather than the rule ?
Nokia should ensure that all upgrades are available simultaneously across all channels and atleast thro' Nokia suite 1st. - Now that will be expensive for Nokia and can only lead to more delays if you insist on simultaneous release across all delivery channels.

  • Nokia suite does not connect with my 6300

Could anyone help please, the problem is straight forward, there is a padlock beside my phones name.
Could it be something i am not doing on the phone side?

    Problem solved.
    Solution:
My antivirus was configured to scan SSL protocol but it's root certificate has expired.
In my case just an AV update solved. If it is not possible for you, you can possibly put  https://account.nokia.com/ in something like an "exclusion list" in your AV or FW.

  • Nokia E75 does not support sis files

I've been trying to upgrade the Ovi maps on my E75, because navigation has kept me saying that I need to renew the license. I went to Nokia web site and found out that I need to upgrade Ovi maps in order to get the free navigation. I have a 202.12.01 firmware and I installed it once again when I had unsuccessfully tried to upgrade Ovi maps. I have Ovi maps v3.01 09wk44b01 (MW OpenGL LM MN) and Map version 0.1.24.114 (OpenBitLM 6.22.5). I've deleted all old maps and started to download new ones successfully over Nokia Ovi Suite. I've downloaded Nokia Ovi Suite and followed the instructions for downloading and installing the newest version of Ovi maps application (I suppose it must be newer than the one I have on now, because navigation still wants me to buy license, I guess it must be 3.03 or higher). I've tried it several times from the scratch, just to make sure I did it right. Of course I've also chosen the right E75 phone from the drop down menu and I downloaded the file nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.2_lm_rom.sis. I double-clicked it and everything seems to be right, but when action on the phone should be required the installation guide says "Nokia E75 does not support sis files". From the sis file name I can only now see that I have this version already installed.
Does this mean I can not use navigation for free on E75?
Can anybody help me ASAP, because I need the navigation evey day very badly?

I'v followed the directions of chanchan05 "Just uninstall the maps app, delete the folder and file I mentioned, then reboot your phone. Open the maps app, and it should recreate the qf file and cities folder in a version compatible to 3.03." on /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Wasn-t-it-supposed-to-be-quot-Navigation-on-your-Nokia-Free/m-p/668305#M...
Afterwards I installed the sis file you pointed me to and it worked. The maps on the phone were deleted, so I downloaded new ones over Nokia Ovi Suite and tried the navigation. Unfortunately it stills demands buying the licence for the navigation.
I guess this is because the recommended sis file is v3.01 and not v3.03? Is that right?
    Any other solution?

Error message: "Ovi Suite/PC Suite does not recognize the connected phone.Ovi Suite/Pc Suite cannot read the required information from the phone.Check that the connected phone is supported by Ovi Suite/PC Suite".
You can try this which can solve your problem.
    1. Disconnect your phone from PC if connected.
2 .Open Control Panel and go to ‘Programs and Features’
    3. From the list of available programs, choose ‘Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver’
    4. Click on the ‘Change’ button on top toolbar.
    5. In the setup dialog box that pops up next, choose ‘Repair’ and select ok. Wait for setup to complete.
    6. Restart the computer if prompted.
    7. Now connect your phone to the PC. Driver installation should complete and PC/Ovi suite (hopefully) should detect your mobile properly now.

    @ Omarbooyaka,
Welcome to the forum! You should use Nokia Suite to update your device to Belle. If still the same, please go to control panel > printer and devices > right click the phone icon > remove the device. Then try to connet again. Also try all the steps provided by magovoru. Could you also report the issue here if connection still does not work.
    Hope this helps!
