Nokia, VoIP and N86

Does the Nokia N86 have the Internet Tel App like the N95 does?
I'm still on my Nokia N95 because we use a VoIP system at work and i have my phone connected to it when in range, the Nokia N96 does not have it nokia thought it would be "funny" to take this feature out, i believe Nokia thought it would be really funny to take it out of the Nokia N97 too, will the Nokia N86 have this so i can make VoIP calls without having to install rubbish 3rd part applications?

I downloaded SIP_VoIP_3_x_Settings_v2_0_en.sis onto my N86, still cannot make internet calls. I have no Internet .Tel Application and "Internet Call" is not an option when dialing. Most i can get is "Registered" under SIP Settings, but no application to dial or recieve.
Am i missing somthing Amadir?
You are just missing the actual VoIP configuration profile which must be created with the above mentioned SIP VoIP Settings plugin. Version of the plugin mentioned above should work basically on any 3rd Edt. FP2 phone other than N96 and N78 of course which don't seem to support VoIP at all.
After you have installed the SIP VoIP Settings plugin you will have a new "Advanced VoIP Settings" module visible on the phones "Net Settings" application. I'm not sure about the default menu structure of the N86 but typically Net Settings entry can be found either under Settings -> Connectivity or it could be located directly in the "Control Panel" menu. Look around and you will find it somewhere on the N86 menus.
Go to the Net Settings application and select Advanced VoIP Settings -> Create New Service. Either select your your existing SIP settings or define new SIP profile and you will have a new VoIP profile available to be used.
Starting with VoIP rel. 3.x (3rd Edt. FP2) phones there is no way to manually define VoIP settings on the phone UI without installing the VoIP Settings plugin and using the it via Net Settings.
Also a separate "Internet Telephony" application (where VoIP registration status was controlled previously) does not exist anymore but instead VoIP activation/deactivation  has been integrated in to the "Contacts" application, after you have created the VoIP settings and profile as mentioned above.
Your VoIP service should show up as an new "Tab" (named as your VoIP settings profile) on the Contacts and from this Tab you can activate and later de-activate (Option -> deactivate service) the VoIP registration. Once VoIP registration has been successfully established you should be able to call "Internet Call" type of calls to your contacts similarly to earlier generation VoIP enabled phones (E66, E71, N95 etc.).

Hello respected, Today I had bought this remarkable device, Nokia N86. All right, if any problem. The computer in an emphasis does not wish to see phone. The standard cable, latest applications from a site of the manufacturer is used, but synchronisation neither through Nokia PC Suite, nor through Nokia Ovi Suite does not occur. Phone simply is not defined, sometimes forces to choose a way of connection three times. Elementary, in appendix Nokia Ovi Suite even it is impossible to choose preferred memory! Tell respected, what to me to do? In hope of an early reply, yours faithfully, Ivan. Sorry for bad English. Russian support don`t want to work.

In the future OVI is the replacement for PCSuite. The version of PCSuite (7.1.40.1) is the latest for now, so there is no update available. You can install OVI and use them both.

  • Nokia n85 and nokia e72

can anyone tell me which phone is better  between nokia  n85 and nokia e72 .

Which is better depends on which features you use the most and whether you prefer qwerty or T9.
Perhaps read the specifications and reviews of both and see which best suits your needs?
You should also consider the N86 which is far better than the N85 but again very different to the E72.

    I'm using a N95 Firmware: R-159 30.0.015 (its happen with N95 8G too) and i've configurated a VoIP account with SIPS URI.
I' can make VoIP call and speak (the quality is great!) but when we hangup (me or the called) the Nokia VoIP Client did NOT disconnect and freeze the mobile(I've to turn off the device).
I've running the wireshark in my network and see no TLS transaction has been send on hangup from NOKIA device , so I' would like Know if someone can help me.

I figured if choose one SIP Account to run on 3G and one on WiFi the power consumption is low.
If both are switched to 3G as access point the power consumption is high.
Must be some kind of bug...

  • Old battery symptoms with Nokia phones (E51, N86)

Your phone's battery may need replacing sooner than you think, at least in my experience. And the symptoms of an old battery are so weird that it is hard to believe that the battery alone could be the sole cause.
My Nokia E51 and Nokia N86 have both gone through expired batteries after two to three years. In both cases, the diagnosis was difficult, so I am documenting here some of the strange behavior I saw with these phones as they began to exhaust their batteries and become in need of a replacement battery.
Battery life in itself is not enough to show when a battery is beginning to experience ageing problems: both these phones were able to hold a charge for at least a day of light use and could make calls even when, for running other programs, the battery was beyond its useful life.
Here are some symptoms I observed with one or other of these phones:
Out of Memory notices when there should have been enough memory, but usually when multiple programs were running (such as Email and Contacts at the same time).
Applications (Mail, Maps, Browser) some times fail to launch when you click on them.
Visual failures in parts of the User Interface: blocks of missing graphics in the Home screen, sudden change of the phone to a completely different Theme.
Spontaneous shutdowns/restarts usually when attempting something with a program.
    In Email, problems inserting Contacts.
Dedicated program buttons (for Mail, Contacts etc) on E51 fail to work, or get reassigned to other functions. Typically, get system error message saying button not assigned to anything.
Selecting an item in a list gives the wrong result.
(Eventually) Complete failure of the phone to even complete the boot (start up) process, freezing at the Nokia screen, then going black (experienced with Nokia E51).
Trying to diagnose this simple problem was maddening at times: I did all possible resets, reinstalls of firmware etc etc, all to no avail.
The symptoms typically did not appear all the time. The arbitrariness and wide range of symptoms is very confusing, and likely to make you think there are multiple faults with your phone, or that it is somehow fundamentally broken.
In that case, paying $30 or more for a new battery is a risk, especially if you are not sure it will fix your phone. But for me, with both these phones, a new battery fixed multiple unconnected annoyances that had been building up for months and I once again became a happy owner.
I speculate that an old battery can maintain a certain voltage, and appear charged on the indicator, but has problems delivering sufficient current (or power) when called upon by the processor to do certain operations, such as using or even launching programs such as a web browser or email.
If you are buying  a secondhand phone (as I did with the Nokia N86), this is an especially difficult issue. The previous owner may not have used the phone for a while and may not have noticed these symptoms. Or they may be selling the phone just because it started 'going wrong' and they wanted to pass the problem on to someone else! If you are the buyer, you have to decide if it is worth investing more money in this phone to possibly fix it with a new battery. If you are selling an old phone, you might want to consider buying a new battery before you sell it, saving the buyer--and you--from an acrimonious debate about whether the phone is faulty and who is responsible.
I put this posting here for others who may be searching for advice when experiencing these symptoms, because I could find nothing to help me on this board. I also could not find detailed descriptions of typical old-battery symptoms in Nokia's own support documents. If you have other symptoms you can add, please contribute.

I think this is very interesting subject.
I use now 3 different batteries for my Nokia E6 and will further on make a stetement if I discover difference between the batteries.
One battery is now a over 2 years old and was used in a Nokia E52 for example.

    Hi,
I have taken Nokia N8 in the month of March. It was all working fine and all of sudden I am noticing that the Ovi store is not opening tried resetting to factory settings, It did not help. Tried reinstalling the Ovi It also did not help. I went to Nokia Care and they said that they need to upgrade the software, They did but after that also the Ovi store is not opening they were also not able to install the ovi. they said that they need to check and if they cant then they need to send it to Delhi, I asked them for a Back up phone but they say that they cant give. what is this we take a Branded mobile paying such huge amount and when we have to give it service they say it will take a week to 10 days and for a time untill they confirm when they would give the mobile they cant provide a back up phone. Its really bad on Nokia. Its damaging the reputation of Nokia. Can this be looked into. Well I went to nokia care expecting a good hospitality but I felt like I went an Open market where if you want leave it else please keep moving....

  • Nokia 5030 and GSM 850/1900

    Hi,
My brother bought a Nokia 5030 phone for his trip to the USA, on the Nokia website at http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/devices/nokia-5030/specifications Nokia 5030 according to specifications it support the following frequencies: EGSM 900/1800
    GSM 850/1900
The phone worked fine on the EGSM 900/1800 Frequency.
Before buying we checked with Nokia support and they told him that the phone should work in the USA. Now he is there and his Nokia 5030 couldn't detect any operator either by auto or manual search, he tried putting his SIM card in another phone and it detected a network, so its not the SIM.
I have tried contacting Nokia support in my country, and they still told me that the phone should work in the USA.
They told to try and perform a factory reset, but it didn't help.
Also the box says "made in Romania" and it has only EGSM 900/1800 written on it.
Also in the manual there is in mention of GSM 850/1900 frequency.
My brother had to buy another phone (a Nokia) to communicate with me.
Is there something wrong with that particular Nokia 5030 phone,
or it does not support GSM 850/1900 frequencies,
in that case why Nokia support tells me that it should work and the Nokia website lists that frequency in the specifications.
    Thanks.
Message Edited by sergy1 on 01-Oct-2009 09:04 AM

    Hi,
I see I’m not the only one that encountered that issue.
I think that unless you have a manual or box that says that the device supports GSM 850/1900 frequencies, it will unfortunately not work and I think that software update won’t solve it as it appears to be a hardware issue.
Its looks like that they’ve listed this phone as a quadband in their internal documentation so that the tech support and sales thinks that this phone is a quadband while its not.
(I called twice before buying and spoke with two different customer service representatives that assured me that the phone supports the US frequencies, and that it must have been a mistake that the manual does not list it as such.)
I hope that Nokia will notice and finally update the Nokia 5030 online specifications page, so that it would explicitly state that Nokia 5030 is not a quadband phone, like they did with their other phones.
    Here is a little update:
After escalating my support request, and speaking to the customer support manager (and repeatedly asking for them to verify it with global Nokia), Nokia Israel (It’s actually represented in Israel by a company called Eurocom) acknowledged my request to return the phone for a full refund to the retailer, and offered me a small compensation (which I guess is better that no compensation at all).
Today I should return it to the retailer, and I hope there won’t be additional problems with that.
One thing I liked about the phone, (I guess this feature is available on most new Nokia’s phones) is its alarm clock feature that pronounces the current time as it tells you to wake up…
    One more thing,
Notice the fine print that appears on the nokia 5030 specs page:
“The availability of particular products, services and features may vary by region. Please check with the Nokia dealer nearest you. These specifications are subject to change without notice”
I hope that you will be able to solve the problem like I did.

  • Nokia Map and Drive+ Beta on Lumina 920 Feedback

So I took my new phone down to MD/DC area in the last few days and here are a few things that I would like to post as my feedback on what would be nice to have, fixes, etc.  [I used both my new Lumia 920 and my wife's Samsung Galaxy Note 2 as comparsion).
    1. Highest priority for me is that the routes from Here.net need to be able to sync down to the phone.  Nothing more is more important then this because when you have a custom route that you want to use (for example, to route around high traffic or potential high traffic areas).
    2. Extremely disappointed that a new road in MD (MD 200) was not used by the Drive+ and didn't even show up on the map on my Lumia 920 while it was used and did show up on Google map.  This road is a toll road and is over a year old already.  [And yes, I have enabled toll road in the navigation as well as selected 'faster route' as the routing to use under smart routing].  I cannot stressed how disappointed I am to not see Nokia Map have this route at all.
    3. Allow route changes on the Nokia Drive+ app.  As good as pre-planned trip and using Here.net, there are just tmes that it's much better to allow us to change the route based on latest condition.
    4. Never once did I see ANY traffic updates at all on both the Map and Drive+ Beta.  When it does shows on my wife's Google's Map/Navigation.
    5. I love that under Drive+, it tells you which lane to get into ahead of when you need to make a turn or merge onto another way. However, the flip side of that is that there's no way to know which road you're currently on.  This is probably more important for when you're in an area with a lot of highway/local way intersections.  Also, it would be great if it also will display the next major 'road' that you will be getting onto.
So far I'm happy with some of the functionality and disappointed in some of Nokia Map and Drive+ and I have about a week left to decide to either stay with WP9 and Nokia or do I want to switch back to Android and Google Map.

  • Nokia 6205 and PC Suite

I can get my phone to connect and be recognized by PC Suite but, it will not authenticate. Does anyone know if there is a solution for this? I contacted Nokia tech support and they said my service provider (Verizon) was not allowing this functonality. However, PC Suite worked fine on my previous Verizon Nokia phone and when I contacted Verizon - they said there was no reason it should not work. Verizon has not done anything to limit such functionality in the phone.

  • Nokia E90 and Linux... how compatible are they?

I am hoping to soon upgrade my current mobile phone (Nokia 6822) and separate PDA (a Palm Tungsten T3) to a Nokia E90. However, I have reservations...
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience about how the Nokia E90 syncs with Linux Ubuntu? I know it doesn't come "out the box" with Linux support, unfortunately, but what about after-market solutions and work-arounds?
I don't mind if I sync through a USB cable or Bluetooth, as long as it works. (I really want to avoid running WINE or something similar though...)
    Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated...!
(And the day Nokia issues Linux support I, for one, will be a happy bunny!)
Message Edited by prodromoi on 11-Jan-2008 02:30 PM

Before you get your E90 you MUST think about support , I got 2 BRAND NEW and I have been a NOKIA costumer for more than 10 years (yes , I own 2 communicators of each model ever built and A LOT of accessories and other models as well...) The paint job started peeling off in about 2 weeks , wrote NOT COMPLAINING but looking for any advise , they replied that there is no support for E90 in Taiwan... but they still working good and I decided to cover them with plastic skin , later on they released an "upgrade" that does NOTHING and I did not check asuming that NOKIA of course will do things always thinking in functionality... to make it short ... 2000USD turned into garbage ...
After the upgrade none of them would recognize the backups I LOST ALL MY CONTACTS LITERALLY JOBLESS!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote to "costumer care" that really doesn't care and they tried to convince me that a hardware reset will fix it , of course using NOKIAs for more than 10 years I KNOW THIS BUT IT JUST DOESNT WORKED.
So finally they say that I had to ship my units to Finland for them to check...
THEY DID NOT NEED MY PHONES TO BE SHIPPED TO FINLAND TO BE SPOILED RIGHT?
THEY SPOILED ONLINE , SO SAME AS THE "UPGRADE" WAS SENT , I SEE NO REASON TO SEND THEM BECAUSE A BIT OF LOGIC THEY JUST NEED TO RELEASE THE DOWNGRADE ...
    After the OS "Upgrade"
    -Not recognizing backups
-Browser not working or poorly performing and phone OVERHEATS to the point of hurt your hand
-takes about 22 minutes to reboot
-A brand new NOKIA battery will last for about 4 hours if you don't use the device (20 minutes in use)
    -It turns EXTREMELY SLOW
-Battery meter shows full everytime , but after reboot it shows empty.
So ... just for you to know and consider , I do not know the new communicator N** might be good  but for now I just don't feel like risking my money on them , and due to this I am probably getting another two smartphones from a brand that AT LEAST CARE A BIT FOR THE COSTUMER.
Wrote this because someone said there is no UBUNTU support ... the truth is that there is no support at all.
Sorry to step on your excitement about the E90
You can have the one that I still have if you want.

Ovi Maps isn't available for mobile web browsers, but you can view it in all its glory on your PC or Mac. ...] Why ? Why is it that the company whose main products are smart phone but its service can not be accessed by using its phones? It seems to me, many nokia's sites are more and more complicated. I like Yahoo and Google which provide mobile sites or basic html. Perhaps, Nokia's web designers never use Nokia smart phones for browsing.

try contacts.ovi.com/dist/nmob, its what I have as a link on my E71 and you can access the maps info and stuff from there.
Alternatively, have you tried the 'my nokia' link from the mobile, you can access ovi from there and download the ovi suite and you can manage your maps using that.

  • Nokia 6280 and NSU support: the final request

I've decided to write this because it's extremely shameful that still now, more than 2 years after its introduction on the market, the 6280 hasn't an official update support, only due to the damned problem with the update from firmware version 3.40.
Is it so difficult to implement into NSU a system of firmware version recognition, and, in case, to block updates for phones with that version installed?
I continue not to understand this strange policy towards certain phone models, that obliges users to apply to unofficial, and illegal, upgrade methods (that work perfectly, if correctly used!)
I hope that, with the release of the next firmware package 6.60 (if it'll be EFFECTIVELY released, instead of inserting false version numbers in the section "Can I update" of the upgrade page - see this /discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&thread.id=29440&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 ) you're going to correct this lack of availability.

Ok so we cant help him but sometimes its good to let off steam, especially as his Nokia fone has been such a disgrace. I hope he reflects on his previous Nokia purchases , and when it comes time to upgrade he chooses a Nokia product. Its also good to keep in touch with customer service elements of Nokia, as this is just, if not more important than the actual product. If customer service is lacking then where is the confidence in buying with confidence !!

  • Questions about VOIP and recording in Connect

    Hi,
We have been using Connect for a long time, but have been doing the audio using AT&T teleconferencing. We were thinking about using VOIP for the webinars we do. I just have a few questions.
    1. Is there a limit of the number of connections to VOIP like there is with the teleconferencing? Is there a point where the number on there could decrease the quality of the VOIP?
    2. When we record the webinar, where can we save it to? Can we save it to our server?
Any help with these questions would be great. Anything else that would be good to know for doing VOIP and recording?
    Thanks.
    Lisa

We don't natively integrate with AT&T by the way - so you have to use Universal Voice in this case and set it up yourself. Not hard to do.
    1. No limit on VOIP but we recommend using the optional SPEEX audio codec built into the Host Add-In if using VOIP a lot. It requires everyone to be using the Host Add-In though. Over 150 though and it might get unruly!
    2. Recordings are saved to the Adobe Connect Central portal that every customer has for their rooms. You can create a local copy from there and then copy the local copy to another server. It's a Flash file so you may need to convert it if you don't have a player.

  • Problem with Nokia Camera and Smart Sequence

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with Nokia Camera and the Smart Sequence mode.
Basically, if you take a picture using nokia camera, and view it in your camera roll, it usually says, underneath the pic "open in nokia camera".
Well, if I take a pic using the Smart Sequence mode, it just doesn't say "open in nokia camera" so, to use the functions of smart sequence (best shot, motion focus, etc), I have to open nokia camera, go to settings and tap the "Find photos and videos shot with nokia camera" option.
Does anyone has the same problem? Anybody solved it?
I already tried reinstalling nokia camera, but that didn't help.
I'm running Nokia Black on my 925.
    Thanks everyone!

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my 1020. It did get fixed with the last update to Nokia camera.
However, IIRC, it didn't just happen right away. When browsing the camera roll I'm pretty sure that the "open with Nokia camera" text wasn't there.
Slightly disappointed I opened the (Nokia) camera anyway and was going to test the smart sequence again. I noticed the only precious pic I'd taken using this actually appeared top left of the screen.
I opened it and I had all the smart sequence editing options again - that we're missing previous. Made a new picture and saved it.
Now when in camera roll the text shows below the image and all is good.
This probably doesn't help much except that it didn't seem to fix automatically.
I work @Nokia so I can ask around a bit to see if this is a known / common issue (not that I know any developers)
