Question

Great job with the new firmware (40) - adds a lot of nice features
A couple of minor problems/questions:
Predictive texting has had a "Previous" button since.. er.. probably the Nokia 3310.. It's incredibly useful, yet you took it away. Why would you do that? I know that I can tap my finger on the underlined word and most times get a menu of the choices so I can go back, but sometimes I end up highlighting text, moving the cursor or achieving nothing. I know I can also hammer the Next (*) button until the phone runs out of guesses and the menu appears but..
How about some smart way of going previous, like a gesture (press and hold *, then stroke upwards)
Or maybe you can show the menu right away (or make it configurable) and have * move through the menu (like Sony)
While we're talking about that menu; it's a bit unusable, moving a page at a time like it does. Everything else in the UI has a scroll bar or kinetic - how about making that consistent?
I'm still not really clear on how sometimes I can scroll a text kinetically and other times I end up highlighting a load of words.. What's the difference in terms of pressing the screen?
Dictionary gripes (I've had them for a long time, and I've raised tickets for them, you've said you'll fix them or you have already fixed them, but then you don't fix them)
1) How about, DON'T add new words into the dictionary unless they have actually been spelled in using the "spell" option - this automatic adding of words built from predictive compounding just rapidly fills the dictionary with garbage
2) If youre going to persist with the dictionary garbage filling, at least give us a dictionary editor facility so we can remove junk words again!
3) The manual says "when the dictionary is full your newly added word replaces the oldest added word" - if this is true then this is a very silly policy. New words should replace the LEAST USED word, not the oldest! No wonder I keep having to teach my dict the same words over and over (because a few bad design choices cause it it fill with garbage)
All in, it's getting better, and the texting on my 5800 seems much better than the N95, but with just a few small efforts it could be made brilliant.
How about offering alternate keyboard layouts to help attract people switching from other brands? Like Microsoft did in Word when they wanted to pull customers from Wordperfect; give them the same key combos as a reason to switch. This should be even easier now the buttons are graphical rather than plastic
An unrelated note.. on the dial screen, the button that deletes is a C character, on all other screens it is a bac arrow <- character.. Why the inconsistency?

1. Cant really help you with predictive text as I use qwerty. Try it.
2. Menu - icons still arent kinetic scrollable, hence main menu and app menu. Although it would depend on the user, since I have organized my app and main menu to have only one area unscrollable through kinetic scrolling in my phone, the games folder.
3. Kinetic scrolling in nokia goes like holding an area and moving it and letting go, like using that area as a "handle".
4. The things you mentioned wont likely reach Nokia by posting here. Nokia employees from the software department only seldom go around here as this is a user-to-user help forum, moderated by Nokia  employees hired to do that job. ^_^
