  • Nokia x6 contacts bar help

Hey guys, this is my first post/thread.
I recently got an x6 16gb model, and I was wondering. I've seen loads of pics of the home screen, with the contacts bar and the contacts being shown on the home screen. Like this for example:
On my screen though, it just shows the 'Add contact' widget. How do I get my contacts onto the homescreen?
    Thanks a bunch.

I think you have to click on the "add contact" thing to add particular, "favourite" contacts to the homescreen. It won't show you all your contacts because then it'd be hard to navigate them.

  • Nokias new Contacts bar view versus Horizontal ico...

I don't understand why these two bars can't work the same way. This applies atleast to the 5730 and couple of other models.
On Contacts bar you are able to remove the Ovi Chat thingy but you only get the ongoing days next calendar appointment.
On Horizontal Icon Bar you get the next calendar appointment and even the next one which does not need to be on the same day but you cannot remove the Ovi Chat from the main screen. The setting just disappears in settings if you change the view style.
I also would like to see an option for deciding how many calendar appointments you get to see. Many times there is a need to see many appointments close to each other so you can plan your day better and more efficiently. Now this isn't as easy as it could be.

S60 Feature Packs are not like Windows Service Pack that it can be installed... this FP2 will only be made available to new phones that will be announced soon... not even E90 will have this and no S60 phone can be upgraded as far as Feature Pack is concerned... btw, the phones with FP2 might be out before the end of this year...

  • X6 contacts bar gone, software prob?

Hi all, new to the site so forgive me if this is posted in the wrong place.
My phone alerted me to a important software update last night (5/1/11) so I downloaded it, and once the phone had restarted, the contacts bar was missing..
I went into the menu to reselect it etc and still nothing?
nokia emailed me back with steps on how to do it, and advised a soft reset which didn't work, then a master reset that also didn't work.
The phone is a  nokia x6, its a few months old and was a brand new replacement from orange (other problems with old handsets not related) and no one seems to know why the contacts bar has gone when all settings etc are set for it to be there?
This is the only problem, nothing else is wrong with the phone, nor was there any problems prior to the software update
anyone else had/got this problem or know how I can solve it without the need to send my phone away to nokia for repair?
There are no repair centers on the isle of Wight so getting it flashed local is not going to happen.
    Any help would be great

Network locks are completely independent from network variant firmware on a phone.
I.e. if you decided to take your phone to get it flashed to generic Nokia firmware that will not remove the network lock.
Conversely, if you unlock your phone from the network provider (Orange in your case) so that you can use any network SIM, that will not remove the network branded firmware.
Be warned... although most shops could remove network locks and / or reflash a phone to generic firmware you'll most likely lose your warranty on the phone and as such most discussion on these topics is usually frowned upon in these forums.
However, you can contact Orange to see if they will allow you to remove the network lock. It ususally costs about £20 and takes about a month before Orange issue you with a special code. They normally agree if your contract is finished.
Also, if you get a written agreement from Orange, you'll be able to get your X6 flashed to generic Nokia firmware at a Nokia Care Centre. I don't really know much about this procedure but have read it quoted here on a number of occaisions.

  • Nokia 5230 v40.0.003 - Contacts Bar Missing

    Hi there, thanks for reading.
I have a problem with my Nokia 5230. I've had my phone about 9 months, and I've been very happy with it. Today I finally got round to installing the v40.0.003 firmware update.
    All went well except...
Ovi Maps not updating (which I can live with)
The contact bar disappearing from the home screen (which I can't)
Searching the net found a few people with the same problem, but no solutions. I've seen mention of the appearance of the contact bar 'changing' but no definition of what this change actually is.
Here's what I've tried so far:
I checked the home-screen settings, it's still on the contacts bar theme and contacts bar is checked on the relevant screen.
I've tried changing to another theme and back, both with and without restarting the phone.
I've tried reinstalling the new firmware.
    I've tried a soft reset
    I've tried a hard reset
I've even tried a hard reset without the sd card followed by a re-flash.
I restored the full backup from before the update, which put most things back the way they were before the resets, but the contacts bar is still missing.
It's a feature of the phone I use a lot so I'm not happy about losing it.
If anyone can offer suggestions as to what I might have missed, I'd appreciate it. Just hope I'm not S.O.L until the next firmware update. (If it's relevant, I'm on Orange PAYG, and have access to my Fiancé's 5230 which is still on 20.0.005)
    Thanks

Yes, the Menu>settings>personal>home screen>home screen theme is set to contacts bar
in Menu>settings>personal>home screen>home screen both contacts bar and shortcuts boxes are checked.
Prior to v40 I had a total of 5 contacts stored on the contacts bar and have been using it ever since i got the phone last year.
I wish it was as simple as needing to turn it on, but I did undertake basic troubleshooting (and more) before starting this thread as my first post shows.
I'm not the only one with this problem on orange either (x6 but same symptom)
    /t5/Xseries/x6-contacts-bar-gone-software-prob/m-p/873775/highlight/true#M7504
Orange include their own fugly homescreen theme in their custom firmware so probably don't care if they break the other ones.
My Fiancé has a 5230 as well, she doesn't use the contact bar (so wouldn't care if it went AWOL) so I might upgrade her firmware as well to see if the same thing happens.

  • Contact Bar has stopped Working for Nokia 5800 XM

Is there any way that anyone would be able to help me. I have had the Nokia 5800XM for 2 months now and a couple of days after getting it, my contacts bar home screen froze. It does not let me add any contacts on, and leaves the screen unresponsive which means that i have to use a different home screen option. have tried Updating Firmware(also tried re-installing it) My version is 30.0.011, and it does not let me update to the new Firmware
    any help is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had this problem with my 5800XM last week. The only difference was that it was the shortcut screen that failed. Everytime I pressed a button nothing happened, even the contact and dialler buttons were dead. I had to change to the contacts home screen (very annoying). Tried the web but couldn't find any mention of this problem.
In frustration, I did a hardware re-set of my phone (after doing a backup) using the Green, Red and Camera buttons whilst the phone was powering up,. I then re-formatted the memory card in the phone and did a full re-install.
Hey presto, everything works perfectly again. I guess the software in some way got screwed up  ?

  • Nokia N97 Mini Contact Bar Web Feed

I see that the X6 contacts bar has a "web feed" option. I read somewhere that the N97 had one too (too bad mine fried). Is there one for the N97 Mini? Can't seem to find this.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I beleive you are using MS Outlook.
    Try the following workaround.
    Manual sync
Open Nokia Ovi Suite--> Sync--> Sync option--> Uncheck the sync automatically everytime you connect the device.
    Then Sync--> Sync now--> Contact,
Repair the "pst" and the "ost" Outlook files as in the following location.
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANPST.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SCANOST.EXE
Right click the above mentioned exe file and 'Run' it.
    NOTE
It's adviced to take a back- up of the user's Outlook folders to avoid any loss of information.
Check with Microsoft support pages for more information.

  • Nokia 5800 - Any way to get both contact bar and c...

Would love to get the contact bar and also upcoming calendar entries on the home screen.  Have been trying but and very disappointed in the phone if it can not do this.  What is the point of only have the contact bar or 4 contacts on the home screen and really nothing else?

    Hi,
You would not be able to add calendar entries in the Contacts Bar Screen. Contacts Bar Screen will only be having details of the Contact & settings, Log details of the Contact.

Till date its been a nice experience using Nokia 5230 thanks to this site which has helped me alot. Still i have a query about the RSS feed options available in contact bar (at the Homescreen) I am not able to search even in google how to use that particular option, can anyone out there PLEASE help me out with this.
Please provide me with detail info on that if possible.

    Hi dwarf2008,
First of all you need to subscribe to a web feed. Contact bar web feeds can be found from contacts in the contact bar. Select a Contact > Web feeds. If you don't have web feeds yet, select Options > New feed > Give the necessary info > Options > Save.
Hope this cleared the matter but please ask if you have more questions.

  • Facebook feed for xpressmusic 5800 contacts bar

    Hi all,
I have some contacts set up on the home screen in the contacts bar. I am trying to use the 'feeds' option for these contacts. I have spent some time today looking at how I could possibly use this feature to add facebook feeds to these contacts. I did manage to get some instructions on how to do it but those were written back in early 2009 and it looks like facebook has made some changes to their feeds/URL links hence those instructions dont work anymore.
Could anyone help me add facebook feed to the contacts on the contacts bar on xpressmusic 5800? Also I wonder if that is actually possible or not. If it is not possible then what other kind of feed Nokia was thinking that could be associated with each contact?
    Thanks

  • C5 / Contact bar lacks facebook integration

The facebook integration inside the C-series is a big thing and actually really cool. However the Nokia seem to have forgoten to integrate this feature in other parts then just Ovi Contacts application. In the Contacts Bar application widget on the homescreen I can absolutley not find any facebook integration. Neither can I use the facebook picture as the contacts picture on the home screen (C5 / no facebook profile picture..) nor can I send fb messages to fb matched contacts. More I cannot see the fb status.

I've contacted Nokia on the matter of not being able to use Facebook pictures on the homescreen contact bar. The reply was something along the line of pictures are real time and not stored on your phone. It didn't sound very convincing. Fact is, the contact bar is useless without Facebook integration.

  • Change Background color of contacts bar

Does anyone know how to change the bg color on the contacts bar? On the nokia site for the 5800 it shows a red background. Can this be done? Thanks.

i think the background of particular elements is based on a theme that one chooses. so if your theme does not have it indicated by red then unless you find a theme with red backround it is not possible to do. you can't chose an element and make it a different color. for various and a large selection of themes go to
    www.dailymobile.se
and enter the forum section look for sub forum for 5th ed devices and go to themes. you might find something you like
what color is your 5800? perhaps the theme you saw was made for the 5800 red and if you have a different color chances are you will not have that theme.

  • Contacts bar on home screen X6

    Hello,
I have changed the home menu today just messing about with my phone. When I went to put the home menu back to contacts bar it just goes back to basic (but with no tick to show it is selected). If I highlight contact bar in the menu then select options then set it says (no data). Any ideas. I just downloaded the last software last week and wonder if it is a bug.

Take out battery for some time like 10 minutes, put it back in, turn on, and try to set it to "Contacts bar". (Sorry if you did this already)
    OTHERWISE;
Backup your data manually, and reinstall latest firmware.
    OR
Dial this code *#7370# enter your lock code, default is 12345. it'll wipe c/phone memory so consider BACKUP FIRST without settings.
