NOMAD Explorer and Creative MediaSource cr

Is anybody experiencing this frustrating problem?
I recently purchased a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra and installed the included software (drivers, Creative MediaSource and Nomad Explorer) on a Toshiba M200 notebook. My Creative MediaSource version is 2.02.06. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP.
When I plug in my Nomad, Windows detects the device just fine.
When I run MediaSource, everything looks good. I can see PC Music Library, My Computer and NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra in the left Sources pane. When I click on the NOMAD icon in sources, then on Music Library, all the music on my Nomad shows up in the right pane.
By the way, so far I've been using Windows Media Player to transfer my music files to the Nomad, no problem. The reason I started using MediaSource is that I want to create playlists for my Nomad, and I can't seem to find a way to create or transfer playlists themselves using Windows MP.
Here's the problem. Whenever I click (left or right mouse button--it doesn't matter) on one of the music files shown on my Nomad, MediaSource crashes. If I run Nomad Explorer, the same thing happens when I click on a music file located in the right pane (file is located on the Nomad), except here Windows Explorer crashes, of course.
I tried upgrading my Creative software to get the latest version of everything, but the same crash keeps occuring. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc, but nothing seems to work. In total frustration, I installed the Creative Software on a different Toshiba notebook (also running Windows XP Pro SP). On that machine, the old version of the software (from my CD) works just fine! However, I really can't use that system for my music.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this crash? This consistent bug is preventing me from doing anything useful with music files on my Nomad using the Creative Software.
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the information.
Yes, I did try upgrading ALL of the Creative software on my notebook, including the driver. That did not solve the crash problem. At that point, I tried uninstalling all Creative Software, rolled back my system to the state before I installed any Creative software (using WinXP System Restore), and reinstalled the original Creative software. The problem remains. I guess I could try rolling the system state back again, but then install only the latest version of the software. I don't know. At this point I am flailing and I am thinking there is no way to make this stuff work on my computer.
An alternati've route is this: Is there any other software I can use to create/manage playlists on my Nomad? If Windows Media Player 0 can do it, I would be thrilled. It seems pretty solid, as far as I can tell.

  • Nomad explorer and creative mediasource not detecting zen touch player. PLEASE HE

Hi, I got a new pc and I was going to install my Zen Touch mp3 player on my new pc but I could'nt find the installation cd so I followed the instructions on here and downloaded all the necessary? software, drivers, plug ins, and followed all the instructions. Once everything was downloaded and installed I plugged my mp3 player into my pc and the noise it makes came up and mtp media player pop up appeared. Windows media player accepts that my zen touch is plugged in but creative media source and nomad explorer is not detecting it's?My os is windows xp, I am using windows media player 9 as I was having trouble with windows media player . Could someone please help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you've just upgraded to XP, you now have to upgrade your Zen as well as your Mediasource. First you've got to upgrade your Zen Touch firmware to version 2.0.05 or above. Look around on the Creative Support site and you'll find the download without too much trouble. Be warned that the firmware upgrade is permanent, and it will wipe out your Zen hard dri've contents, so say goodbye to all your music unless you want to back it all up to your PC first.
Then you've got to upgrade your Mediasource to v 3.30.2 or higher. Again, you can find the upgrade download on the Creative site. Then you've got to install Zen Touch Media Explorer v .30.04 or higher. Same thing -- easy to locate on the Creative site. Then you should be good to go!?Best,?John

  • MPEG-4 Audio and Creative MediaSource Organi

I used iTunes before purchasing Audigy 4, and a good chunk of my music is in MPEG-4 Format, but my creative Mediasource Organizer won't play them. Anyone know what and how to convert them so they will play on the Organizer?

iTunes will convert to MP3. I think this is probably your best option.

  • Failed installation left nomad explorer components, how do I remove th

I recently did an installation of the Nomad explorer and Creative jukebox drivers, for my nomad zen xtra, but for some reason the installation never quite completed.
I'm left with the start menu shortcut, as well as the nomad explorer dri've icon (under My Computer), plus whatever hidden changes it made during the installation. Unfortunately, this does not include an uninstallation option, so I can't get rid of them (well, I can delete the shortcuts, but the nomad explorer system folder in my computer I don't know how to get rid of).
Anyone know of some way to clean up this faulty installation? I tried installing over it, which worked fine, and then uninstalling, which successfully removed the second installation, but did not affect the first.
    Any advice is appreciated.

AGHHHHHHH!!! I have the exact same problem only i do not have the NOMAD Explorer in my control panel to remove...
I ahve tried the sytem options, hardware profiles, everything..... I have totally and thourallly searched my computer only to find the one shortcut i cannot get rid of....

  • Using Creative MediaSource - No Track Ye

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I'm looking for some answers on this and here goes...
I've got a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra player that's a few years old and I'm using Creative MediaSource .0.85.
Whenever I want to rip tracks from a CD and add them to my MP3 player using CMS, I find the CDDB succesfully retrieves the track name, album name, artist and even track number, but the track Year is always left blank and I cannot see an option anywhere to change this. So, each time I add a new CD, I have to go in to Nomad Explorer and edit each track's properties one-by-one.
What I'd like to know please is whether there are any updates available that might include the track year information or whether there is something I have missed or am missing?
I hope this makes sense to you and that someone may be able to help...
Thank you for your time. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum,
    Olly.
Admin note: I moved this to the MP3 forums, the Zen Xtra is a MP3 player not a PMP.

Nope, I definitly have a usb 2.0 I already had Usb on my PC but I had to buy a new usb so my mp3 player would work. And like I said my mp3 played worked fine on my PC until I had to wipe my hard dri've.
I think the problem is that the usb2.0 came with an installation disc and I've lost it so I'm gonna look on the net for some software that may help.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Creative MediaSource can't seem to see audio C

Thank you in advance and I apologize if there's a solution posted somewhere that I couldn't find. I tried.
I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra that I bought a year or so ago. Works great, I love it. I've always used the software that came with it, Creative MediaSource, to move songs from CDs to my computer and then to the Zen Extra.
But today I got on and Creative Mediasource seemed to have uninstalled itself. None of the shortcuts worked. So after several tries of re-installing, it seems to be back.
Except formerly, when I would have MediaSource up and put in a CD, it would immediately list Track , Track 2, etc. (and I would later use the web thing to get the names). If for some reason it didn't, I would go over to the Sources column, click on the CR-R line and then the Track , Track 2, etc would come up in the center column.
But now nothing shows up in the center column. So I can't rip the CDs to the computer. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the result is the same. Here's one thing I noticed: I accidentally left the installation CD in and when I click on that CD dri've, the list of folders immediately shows up in that center column. So it's seeing the dri've, and that CD, but not my audio CDs for some reason.
Can you please help? I guess from looking at this forum there are other software packages to use to rip CD and move music around, but this is the one I'm used to and it seems a waste to just toss it away and start with something else. Plus all my previously ripped music is in that PC Music Library folder.
Thank you in advance for whatever help you can give me. As you can tell, I'm not real savvy on all this and I've already wasted most of my Saturday on it.

With it were easier to do what you want but it's not.

  • Nomad Explorer Hel

Ok, so I click on Nomad Explorer to bring up the folder. Then, I click on the Nomad Zen Xtra...which brings me to the next folder with data library and music library. But at this point a menu always comes up telling me "WIndows Explorer has encountered a problem and is sorry for the inconvenience."
Anybody know what the problem is?

Some people don't have a good experience with Nomad Explorer, and I found it a touch buggy also.
I think you'll have to rely on MediaSource, or try reinstalling your PC to see if that helps (if you are able to do this).
Failing that there are several other programs you can use listed here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.

  • Creative MediaSource 5 Player does not recognize my Zen

    Hello,
I have the Creative MediaSource 5 player and never had this problem before, but now it does not recognize or connect with my Zen V player. I do not know what is going on. Everytime I connect my Zen now I get a window giving me choices of players to use with my Zen and the Creative player is not longer in this list... I have not made any changes.
    Help.... Anyone :robotsad:
    Thanks,
    kanela.

    Jezuz,
If you have update the player firmware to the PlayForSure firmware version, you will need to also update your copy of the Media Explorer to the version that can support it. Go back to the download page where you download the firmware and look for "Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update" and "Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8)".

  • Zen Media Explorer and Outl

When I use the synchronize media and Outlook data portion of ME it does not give me the option to selec the items to synchronize. It is possible that during the setup process I may have only selected (Audio) in the select items for synchronization and now I can't sync. outlook with Zen because it is not an option. Can you help me to make this an option.

As you have the MTP firmware now installed on your Zen player you will need to update your Media explorer software and Creative MediaSource (CMS).
To download the Zen Micro Media Explorer, download the file ZENM_PCAPP_LB__00__MTP.exe from http://www.nomadworld.com/downloads/...s/download.asp
At the moment there are no plugin updates available for CMS, so until creative release this you will be unable to use Creative MediaSource Player. You will need to continue to use WMP0.
    regards,
    Angel.

  • Creative MediaSource will not play certain MP3

I have a Creative Audigy 2 NX with a remote that I really want to be able to use. Programs such as GIRDER, WinLIRC, and uICE do not support the RM-500 remote control.
I can't figure out how to control the remote beyond editing and creating key files that send ASCII commands, but the problem with that is I cannot control programs that are not currently acti've. In other words, I cannot control winamp if I'm playing a game with my remote, which is what I want to do. The KEY files are structured as this:[KeyEvent690 etc]KeyName=whateveryouwantdisplayedNotification=- or 2 or 4KeyEventRemap=this is the important partHandleByApp=i don't know what this doesAnyway, if I set notification to -, I can send ASCII commands-- BUT these will not send to programs not currently on top. If I set notification to 2, as Creative did in their Winamp .x key file, I could control the program even if it is not on top-- BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE KeyEventRemaps NUMBERS SHOULD BE. I cannot find this information, and I have tested as far as I am capable of doing manually (tested numbers through 500 MANUALLY).So what I want to be able to do is use my remote to control winamp, but that is impossible. And Creative MediaSource will not play streaming audio (for God knows why...). So what I decided to do was record to an MP3 player with a third party program and play that MP3 in the Creative MediaSource software (the built-in recorder will NOT work, as I cannot structure that into a playlist nor can I play the recording media nor can I minimize the program and mute the feedback-- I can only record if I'm playing, and this doesn't work). The first problem I encountered was several programs would not output MP3s that were playable as they were being recorded, however I finally did find one. This program, 3aLab iRadio, allows the MP3 to be played back WHILE simultaneously being recorded. The only problem is that this the Creative MediaSource software will NOT play the mp3. Out of the 5 different MP3 players I tested, ONLY the Creative MediaSource software would not playback the MP3 as being written. I cannot figure this out, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. I realize that Creative won't support streaming audio with their player, MediaSource, but what I like to do is listen to streaming internet radio as an item on my mp3 playlist in winamp. I wish to be able to control this with my remote, but as I cannot find ANY WAY out there to control my remote as I wish without further information, this is a dead end. My alternati've is to use the Creative software for which the remote was designed to work, but unfortunately this does not support streaming internet radio nor does it support MP3s that are being written to. This is driving me insane.
What I want to be able to do is have a playlist that I control with my remote, with the first item on the list being internet radio, the 2nd and such on down being MP3s. In winamp, this is doable, as well as in Windows Media Player, and most MP3 players out there. Since I cannot do this in Creative's software, I need a workaround alternati've. PLEASE.
So, in conclusion, is there anyone out there who can either tell me how to control my remote directly by identifying what the notification=2 keyeventremap=configuarions are, give me a program like girder however which supports the RM-500 remote, or tell me how to get MP3s that are being written to (aka incomplete) to play in the Creative MediaSource software?
Thank you very much for your time.

  • Xi-fi and creative media softwa

Hi. finally my xi-fi extreme music card arri'ved. I have installed it without any problems with 945 intel board. However due to alot of serious concerns about drivers and softwares in this forum, I decided to install only the lastest driver and creative mediasource ver. 3.30.2 which i got from this website.
. My concern is that am I getting all the necessary software that optimizes my sound card if I didn't used the cd installer?
    2. Looking at the product description from this website, I noticed that alot of the snap shot pictures posted in it like of elaborate equalizers, eax set up, entertainment center cannot be found in my present software. In fact I only have creative mediasource, and creative audio console as software.... is that ok?
    3. How can I change the eax presets in the creative mediasource without going to creative audio console.
    Thanks alot.
By the way I am enjoying the soundcard very much... it made a quite an impact in the way you hear sounds and music from a computer. Congratulations for a very good product.

    Hi again,
Thanks alot for those advice. I did miss alot of softwares (so I have to take good care of the installer cd after all). You were right the installer just added the missing programs and I didn't have to reinstall. I use the creative autoupdate and my systems were already up to date.
Thanks again you were a big help. It is nice to have a good forum like Creative. Happy New Year.

  • NOMAD Explorer doesn't detect Zen To

I open NOMAD Explorer and it says not connected. I would really like to look at the files in my player and edit the tags and whatnot. I can still use the Windows Explorer thing to access the player. Any help on getting it to detect or anyone have another way to edit the files?

Are you using the PlayForSure firmware(verson 2.xx.xx) for the Zen Touch player now? Nomad Explorer won't work with the new firmware. You can download the Zen Touch Media Explorer suite from the website and use that instead to replace the Nomad Explorer.

  • NOMAD Explorer makes my computer free

Okay, here's the problem. I've been putting music on my Zen Touch for weeks, and it's all worked out fine. Now, when I try to copy something to the Disk, it freezes my computer. It was working an hour ago. I've tried re-installing NOMAD Explorer and Notmad Explorer, and yet both still don't work. What can I do to fix this?

I get an error message that says, "The operation has failed. Please ensure player is properly connected before trying again." Uh oh. What left is there now?
Edit: Some luck at last!! NOMAD still screws up, but Notmad works fine. I think the problem may be that I filled up the Zen too much (there was only .5 gigs left of space) so I think I should transfer a gig or two to my computer and see if that hel
    ps.
The only problem is, Notmad Trial Edition won't let me send it to the PC. I'd have to buy the full version. Being 4 years old, this poses a problem. By chance, is there any other programs to use to transfer them? Thanks a lot.

Try using another usb cord & rear usb ports if using a desktop or usb ports directly on the laptop no hubs.

No, once you have upgraded to the MTP firware, you cannot go back to ver. x of the firmware.
