Nomad explorer probl

I have a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40g.
Last week, I was able to connect and transfer files.
Now, whenever I open Nomad explorer, it crashes and closes. (it also crashes my desktop)
What's causing this problem? I uninstalled/reinstalled but it still crashes.
I have some data files I need to access and can't get to them in the Mediasource organizer.
What can I do!?
Thanks in advanced.

I've never liked Nomad Explorer much, and am not sure how you'll solve that specific crashing issue.
If you're after data files you can also get them with PlayCenter and Notmad. For advice on using Notmad see PlayCentre 3.02.52.

  • NOMAD Explorer and Creative MediaSource cr

Is anybody experiencing this frustrating problem?
I recently purchased a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra and installed the included software (drivers, Creative MediaSource and Nomad Explorer) on a Toshiba M200 notebook. My Creative MediaSource version is 2.02.06. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP.
When I plug in my Nomad, Windows detects the device just fine.
When I run MediaSource, everything looks good. I can see PC Music Library, My Computer and NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra in the left Sources pane. When I click on the NOMAD icon in sources, then on Music Library, all the music on my Nomad shows up in the right pane.
By the way, so far I've been using Windows Media Player to transfer my music files to the Nomad, no problem. The reason I started using MediaSource is that I want to create playlists for my Nomad, and I can't seem to find a way to create or transfer playlists themselves using Windows MP.
Here's the problem. Whenever I click (left or right mouse button--it doesn't matter) on one of the music files shown on my Nomad, MediaSource crashes. If I run Nomad Explorer, the same thing happens when I click on a music file located in the right pane (file is located on the Nomad), except here Windows Explorer crashes, of course.
I tried upgrading my Creative software to get the latest version of everything, but the same crash keeps occuring. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, etc, but nothing seems to work. In total frustration, I installed the Creative Software on a different Toshiba notebook (also running Windows XP Pro SP). On that machine, the old version of the software (from my CD) works just fine! However, I really can't use that system for my music.
Does anyone have any idea as to what might be causing this crash? This consistent bug is preventing me from doing anything useful with music files on my Nomad using the Creative Software.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks for the information.
Yes, I did try upgrading ALL of the Creative software on my notebook, including the driver. That did not solve the crash problem. At that point, I tried uninstalling all Creative Software, rolled back my system to the state before I installed any Creative software (using WinXP System Restore), and reinstalled the original Creative software. The problem remains. I guess I could try rolling the system state back again, but then install only the latest version of the software. I don't know. At this point I am flailing and I am thinking there is no way to make this stuff work on my computer.
An alternati've route is this: Is there any other software I can use to create/manage playlists on my Nomad? If Windows Media Player 0 can do it, I would be thrilled. It seems pretty solid, as far as I can tell.

  • Nomad Explorer not detecting Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra after firmware upgr

<blockquote dir="ltr">From the firmware thread: "The Creative drivers shouldn't make any difference. An MTP device is looking for the Windows Media Player 0 MTP driver (which is installed with WMP0)."[/quote]Is that why my updated Zen Xtras (40G and 60G) are no longer recognized by Nomad Explorer on Windows XP? XP sees them. MediaMonkey sees them (and can synch). (WMP0 is installed, but I haven't tried it.) Nomad Explorer (3.0.0, 22 Sep 2004) says nothing's detected. Is this because I'm still using the latest driver (2.0.00), which the Creative download site says only supports firmware below 2.00.00. (If so, interesting choice by Creative, making us downgrade the driver.)?I wouldn't care, but Nomad Explorer is the only way (I know of) to edit the devices' names and startup bitmaps. And I wouldn't even care so much about the bitmaps, but I really really want to edit the names so that I can tell them apart in MediaMonkey's list of devices. Can we still use Nomad Explorer? Which driver should I be using? Creative's download section is anything but clear:?2.0.00 (8 Oct 2006): Supports XP but the firmware must be below 2.00.00.
.30.03 (3 Sep 2005): Supports XP but was released before firmware 2.0.03, so does it support it's?There's also a legacy OS Driver for Windows 2000 (.0.00, 27 Feb 2006) which specifically says it supports PFS players. Is this what I need? Can we no longer use Nomad Explorer on XP (even though it's listed as a download)?

Thanks, but if the Nomad Explorer requires the suite to work, I'll just have to do without it. The Creative Suite is better than it used to be, but IMO it's still not as good as MediaMonkey. Still, Creative doesn't list the Suite as being required for Explorer to work, so I don't think that's it. From the Download page:?Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition or Windows 98 Second Edition<
Creative NOMAD Jukebox 2, 3, Zen, Zen USB2.0, Zen NX, Zen Xtra or Zen Touch<
I'll try the other driver tonight and see if that's it.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra: Nomad Explorer says Not connected ... first time u

I just bought a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra. I used the installation CD to install everything and Windows automatically tried to locate a driver for it but it was not successful, so I downloaded the driver for the Zen Xtra from this website and installed it.
However, when I open "Nomad Explorer" it shows the player's logo with a red X and says "Not connected". How do I get the player to connect to the computer?
This is my first time using a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra and I have limited computer knowledge, but I know all my USB ports are working.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi!?I'm having the same problem. I bought the player, but after a couple of weeks I've exchanged it, because of some hardware problem. The original player worked all right, but the new one is not recognized by NOMAD Explorer ("not connected"), and?I also?can't copy files via Windows Explorer. The strange thing is I managed to copy a couple of albums, but then it'sstarted to hang the Explorer. The firmware version is 2.0.03. I reinstalled the drivers and NOMAD Explorer - didn't help. PS: You've got to help me, 'cause my iPod-loving friends laugh at me, so it's my and Creative's reputation we're talking about

  • (Zen touch) Is there a way to do a file count for Nomad Explor

Hi. I just got my Zen Touch. It rocks, but I was wondering if there's a way to count how many files are actually in the NOMAD Explorer. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I'm sure my NJB3 tells me somewhere. Is there a place you can view the firmware version? I'm thinking it's around there somewhere, if it hasn't been removed from the Touch. I know that Notmad Explorer gives very clear details.
To save the tracks as a playlist, just queue them all up then hit the scroller and choose "save as playlist". Of course you can do a similar thing in the software by creating a playlist and then copying the tracks into it.

  • Does creative have plans to update Nomad Explor

i think its a great simple piece of software.. except for one thing. its hard to transfer music from your play to the PC. you have to highlite every song in the album then drag and drop them onto your PC, in a folder you have to make yourself. and when you have to do artists then album folders for 40GB's worth of music it takes way to long.
I was wondering if they were planning some kind of new version or update? for those who have used it know that when you click on the data folder it has actualy visable folders and sub folders that you can move around as you would normaly in windows. if you had that feature for the music library then that program would be amazing. being able to highlight all the artists and just drag and drop the music onto your HDD, or wherever. or move it around. preferable in a Artist folder. then album folders within that folder setup.
I know this will never see the light of day, and almost totaly sure this will never happen. but i think Nomad Explorer has great potential. The other programs are weak at best. i used to love PlayCenter. but not it wont install without crashing during album transfers. But hey, if i don't say it, it can't happen. so i might aswell try.
    Thanks.
Does anybody have anything to say to this? Disagree? Agree? etc?

MrZop wrote:I might look into it. Is it really worth it's I'll go find there website now and take a peek.
There's a free but limited feature trial that should give you some idea. It's like Nomad Explorer with bells on, although it predates Nomad Explorer. There's other software as well, have a look here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.
EDIT: I just saw this on the notmad website. whats the difference? I wasnt aware creative made two versions of the Xtra. or is this just a type on notmads site? " # Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra (all capacities) # Creative Zen Xtra (all capacities) "
Strange. There is only the one version, probably just different names in different regions. I believe Europe don't use the Nomad prefix due to some other product clash.

Are you using the PlayForSure firmware(verson 2.xx.xx) for the Zen Touch player now? Nomad Explorer won't work with the new firmware. You can download the Zen Touch Media Explorer suite from the website and use that instead to replace the Nomad Explorer.

  • Failed installation left nomad explorer components, how do I remove th

I recently did an installation of the Nomad explorer and Creative jukebox drivers, for my nomad zen xtra, but for some reason the installation never quite completed.
I'm left with the start menu shortcut, as well as the nomad explorer dri've icon (under My Computer), plus whatever hidden changes it made during the installation. Unfortunately, this does not include an uninstallation option, so I can't get rid of them (well, I can delete the shortcuts, but the nomad explorer system folder in my computer I don't know how to get rid of).
Anyone know of some way to clean up this faulty installation? I tried installing over it, which worked fine, and then uninstalling, which successfully removed the second installation, but did not affect the first.
    Any advice is appreciated.

AGHHHHHHH!!! I have the exact same problem only i do not have the NOMAD Explorer in my control panel to remove...
I ahve tried the sytem options, hardware profiles, everything..... I have totally and thourallly searched my computer only to find the one shortcut i cannot get rid of....

  • Nomad explorer and creative mediasource not detecting zen touch player. PLEASE HE

Hi, I got a new pc and I was going to install my Zen Touch mp3 player on my new pc but I could'nt find the installation cd so I followed the instructions on here and downloaded all the necessary? software, drivers, plug ins, and followed all the instructions. Once everything was downloaded and installed I plugged my mp3 player into my pc and the noise it makes came up and mtp media player pop up appeared. Windows media player accepts that my zen touch is plugged in but creative media source and nomad explorer is not detecting it's?My os is windows xp, I am using windows media player 9 as I was having trouble with windows media player . Could someone please help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you've just upgraded to XP, you now have to upgrade your Zen as well as your Mediasource. First you've got to upgrade your Zen Touch firmware to version 2.0.05 or above. Look around on the Creative Support site and you'll find the download without too much trouble. Be warned that the firmware upgrade is permanent, and it will wipe out your Zen hard dri've contents, so say goodbye to all your music unless you want to back it all up to your PC first.
Then you've got to upgrade your Mediasource to v 3.30.2 or higher. Again, you can find the upgrade download on the Creative site. Then you've got to install Zen Touch Media Explorer v .30.04 or higher. Same thing -- easy to locate on the Creative site. Then you should be good to go!?Best,?John

  • NOMAD Explorer doesn't detect Zen To

I open NOMAD Explorer and it says not connected. I would really like to look at the files in my player and edit the tags and whatnot. I can still use the Windows Explorer thing to access the player. Any help on getting it to detect or anyone have another way to edit the files?

Are you using the PlayForSure firmware(verson 2.xx.xx) for the Zen Touch player now? Nomad Explorer won't work with the new firmware. You can download the Zen Touch Media Explorer suite from the website and use that instead to replace the Nomad Explorer.

  • Nomad Explorer & Mediasource Freezes my

For the record, there's another topic with a similar title but different error.
    My problem:
Since Xmas 2004 I've been upping many mb's and gb's of music to my Zen Touch, right now there's 3GB left, seeing as I messed up some ID3 tages I wanted to rename 'em in mediasource; mediasource 'loading library' list progresses fully but when it dissapears the whole program freezes. I uninstalled every related program and cleaned up registry, reinstalled everything.
Then I thought it would be a good idea to backup my song archi've before updating to the 'playforsure' firmware, my current firmware is updated fully with the 'autoupdate' option on the support dropdown on creativelabs homepage. But now my problem is when I open nomad explorer, explorer freezes! There is no way of getting to my list of songs let alone copying them onto my harddisk, I can sync it with windows media player 0, but I can't copy any songs off.
    What do I do?

[size="2" face="Helv">Here is what you should do:
    - Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site. Make sure that you install this first before installing the rest of the MediaSource plugins listed below.
    - (Depending on your product and firmware)
For non-PlaysForSure Zen Touch: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.20 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.
    or:
For PlaysForSure Zen Touch: Download and install the Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players.
    - If it is listed for your product: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for CD Burner 3.0.8 from your product download site.

  • Nomad Explorer - Crappy

Why doesn't Nomad Explorer want to act right? It always crashes when I launch it. I can't make use of the opppurtunity to transfer data to the mp3 player. What can be done in order for me to get this program working? It even crashes my windows Explorer.exe My PC's OS information is Windows XP SP (NTFS). Please help me get to the bottom of why Nomad Explorer doesn't want to work.

Anecdotally I've found Nomad very buggy. Notmad Explorer pre-dates this, and despite being shareware, it's very good.
You can of course double check that you have the latest firmware, drivers and Nomad Explorer also from Nomadworld.com downloads.

  • Nomad Explorer gone haywi

I loaned my friend my desktop computer for a week because I had to go on vacation, and he installed Creative Media source and the Nomad explorer. I just want to know how I can delete Nomad Explorer since it is a system folder. I tried just simply deleting the entire creative nomad file in the Add/remove programs list, but it keeps saying that there is an unhandled exception, and that the setup must now terminate. Anyone have any idea how I can delete Nomad explorer?
