Nomad Juekbox Zen NX 30Gb Headphone prob

Hi - I'm having an issue with my headphones. I turned it out yesterday and the sound was all garbled, I played around with the headphone jack and found out that my sound will only be clear if the headphone jack is placed at a certain position. Any sudden touch or movement, will move the jack and the sound will become all garbled again. I have already sent one player back earlier in the year with a similar problem (along with the fact that I couldn't transfer any tracks), and it took them a month to get back to me. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I've seen posts about headphone problems, but nothing like the issue I'm having. Is it worth sending back to fix? Any help from anyone would be great!

I have the exact same problem.
My Nomad Zen Xtra 30Gb is still within warranty but I can't prove it because the shop have messed me around with reciepts. The headphone socket has a loose connection, and no it's not just the headphones. I need to find out about costs etc for repairs. I'm so disappointed, I love this thing to pieces and yet everyone I take it to says there's nothing they can do..
Hope someone can help,
Thanks.

anybody else had this problem and any suggestions as how to remedy it.

Strange. I wondered if the headphone socket was faulty as you are only getting partial sound. Stupid question, and I'm not sure if you mentioned this before, but have you tried some other headphones?
If this still doesn't help then you need to return it to the store you bought it from, or contact Creative Support.

  • NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra 30gb dri

    Hiya,
Sorry if its been asked before, but I installed a new Windows Vista 64bit about a month ago and since then I've searched all over the net trying to find a working driver that will allow me to transfer all of my music that I've collected over the years from my NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra30gb to my PC.
It worked fine with XP, but I need a 64bit driver for the USB connector.
Does anyone know where I can download a working driver?
    Any help would be great!

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB- tried to upgrade firmware. Process hung, now nothing wo

This is really frustrating. I know my MP3 player is old, but it was working. Trying to find all the information I needed to have to upgrade this player so that it would work with Windows Vista was difficult. It wasn't all in the same place. I just kept searching and finally found what I thought was everything I needed. I tried to upgrade the firmware to Version 2.0.03 so I could use it with a Windows Vista computer. The process "hung" and now nothing works. I've tried to reinstall the .20.08 firmware, but the computer won't recognize that the player is connected. How can I get any firmware reloaded so I can try to upgrade again or at least still use the player on a Windows XP machine Thanks,

The same exact thing happened to me yesterday with my Zen Touch 40 GB player. It was working fine, now after my firmware upgrade attempt it's unrecognized by the PC and has no firmware installed but appears to be stuck in "Recovery Mode". There is obviously something wrong with the Creative Firmware update - this should be a very straightforward process, but instead it seems to be wrecking mp3 players. I contacted customer support and they offered to sell me assistance since my player is ancient (2 years old).

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30GB mp3 player - Windows Vista

I no longer have the disc that came with my player and can't seem to find drivers to get my PC to recognize the player. Downloads seem to be for older operating systems maybe because the player is so old. When I try to downlod them I get errors. Not sure if I have the right drivers. Can anyone find them? Model # DAP-HDOO

I'm trying to find a way to make sure my Zen still works if I upgrade my OS to W7 (I've got the 60Gb version). You don't say which OS you are using, but I think it is relevant. Everyone seems to have a problem with Vista, and I've only found one place where they said they can get it to work with W7, using Compatibility Mode.
There is also a lot of stuff about a conflict with Windows Media Player v. I don't know if that was ever resolved, but people were advised to roll WMP back to v0.
Creative have pulled the plug on support for these machines, although you can still get the latest firmware from there. I'm reluctant to try it in case my machine crashes halfway through.
This is the text of the posting I found about W7. Good luck!
    Creative Zen Xtra
Microsoft have certainly made the compatibility mode powerful in Windows 7!
I could only get basic use from my Zen Xtra in Vista, using Real Media Player
to play tracks from the Zen Xtra, but in Windows 7 it works flawlessly.
Basically the driver for the Zen Xtra is incompatible with Windows 7. However,
if you download the XP driver and right click the installation file and select
the Troubleshoot Compatibility heading and use the recommended settings to
install the driver, then install the Creative Mediascource 5 for Vista, then
the plugin for the Zen Xtra for Mediascource (both install without compatibility
mode), you will get a warning that the driver is incompatible but ignore this and
restart the computer. I then started Mediascource software, noticed the Zen
Xtra listed, clicked on 'Playlist', and it loaded, no problem! Playback, no
problems, transfer to player, no problems!
I am NOT using the 'Play 4 Sure' firmware update either!
Also for those with the Audigy 2 or 4 sound cards, Creative have issued a
beta driver for Windows 7, I am using this without the previous distortion
that the default Windows driver gives. Everything is cool! This was my main
reason for not replacing XP as my main OS.

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra firrmware version 1.03

i own a nomad jukebox zen xtra 30gb which has been running in excellent condition for three years..i want to make a database of all driver and firmware versions on my pc..
i've tried locating this firmware version(.03.02)?everywhere(creative downloads page included)..but haven't met with success..i would appreciate if anyone would tell me where to look for it..thanks in advance

First you must install the driver http://support.creative.com/Products...me=MP3+Players on the computer. Have a battery that is charged. What you did is you erased the firmware(reload O.S.)so the player has none. That is why you got the message you got. You are going to lose all the files(music) on the player because when you install the firmware? you are going to format the dri've before you do that.
Download & install the driver first. The version 2.0.00 driver Then check to see if player is recognized(plug it into a rear usb port if using a desktop NO USB HUBS) Download the firmware file to your desktop on the computer

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen NX and WMP

As many other devices and users, I have problem after upgrading to WMP. Whenever I connect my trusty Nomad Jukebox Zen NX (30GB) I get message saying "your device is using an outdated driver that is no longer supported by windows media player". I have latest fw and drivers so that is not an issue. By checking Creative pages it seems as they won't be creating new drivers for this device meaning I'm stuck.
I don't use Creative tools to rip and feed player because I lost CD few years ago and since I reinstalled Windows. I was not able to get software from support then so I decided to stick to WMP. Now, MS doesn't won't to support it as it seems.
Are there any alternati'ves or suggestions?

What I did was to uninstall WMP, rescan library to add new albums that were originally scanned with WMP and that did the trick as I was rolled back to WMP0. I would however wish to have working solution with WMP.

  • NOMAD ZEN XTRA 30GB & WINDOWS VISTA & D/L SOFTWARE ISS

I was hoping someone can please help me out here in Forum Land ?I just bought a new computer with WINDOWS VISTA and my Installation disk is not compatible. I have tried d/l from this site with no luck. It will go to the WIZARD part but won't finish the installation. They said something about installing and completing the firmware update, your player will be using the PlaysForSure software, but on the same sentence he/she says "However you will need to do this on an XP system".. and I have Vista so I am totally confused. I also checked out the site he/she suggested about installing this FirmWare and that site says "Back up all audio, video, image or data files stored in the player to a secure location before changing the firmware. All contents in the player will be lost when you install a new firmware"? -- How can I back up when I can't access it's And surely, I don't want to lose my over 2,500 songs ! Yikes... • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gp prob

Well, to start off with, I loved my mp3 player. So far, I ran into problems that I could not fix. I downloaded all of the updates that were needed. My mp3 player, a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gb, suddenly would not work the same way. When the power adapter of battery are inserted, the player starts up. When they are pulled the player shuts down. One of the problems is when the player is on, it doesn't want to leave the main screen that says, "EAX". The hard dri've is not spinning, and no data is being accessed. I found on this website a page that tells users how to reset their mp3 player. For my mp3 player, it must be turned off for me to do a hard disk check, re-installation of operating system, or a format of the hard dri've...which is another problem, because I cannot turn it off. As I stated previously, the player is either on or off depending on if the battery is in or not. I am totally puzzeled. I cannot connect the player to the computer because of this problem. So either I have a new 60gb laptop hard dri've, or I figure out a way to get this to work. I haven't been able to find any threads like this or any users experiencing these problems.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Matt

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra FIRMWARE PROBL

In the spring of 2005, I bought a 40GB Nomad Jukebox Sen Xtra. It worked for a little over a month without any problems. Since then, it shuts off on its own and?it freezes. For the first time since I bought it, I attempted to load new music onto it. Now whenever I turn it on, it reads "re-building library..." and then it's stuck on "Firmware Problem."? I tried updating?the firmware from the website, but since?my computer no longer recognizes that?the player is?plugged in.
?I welcome any suggestions for this problem. Please help me so I can stop regretting my decision to buy this...

Kayla24?Looks like you're going to have to start regretting buying something?made by?Creative. There are oodles of stories on these boards regarding software problems and creative mp3 players. Creative have published ?'updates' that effecti'vely disable players but will not take any action unless the machine is still under warranty. The last e-mail I got from tech support said 'We know the firmware [update] disabled your machine, but unless it is still in warranty there is nothing we will do about it."? It was a Zen Xtra 30GB, it's now a paperweight. If your's still turns on, try reinstalling the firmware on a old pc/laptop that has never had Windows Media on it, but has been updated to media player 0. This sometimes works - otherwise join the crowds and get an i-pod. At least they work - and Apple fix 'em when they break 'em.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra VS Winows Media Player - Help?

I have a 40gig Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - a computer crash a year ago resulted in a replacement by the computer company - and it came with Windows Media Player.... when I tried to run it and had already installed the Creative software/Music library - Media Player crashed my computer every time - had to uninstal...,. now - that computer is defecti've and has just been replaced again by the maker - and before I load the Creatai've Software wondered if this is what is interfering with Media Player? Does anyone know? When I buy music it looks for Windows Media Player I believe - and I can play it and transfer the music in Creative program - BUT - it no longer lists my music library as single songs but as folders - and I have to go specifically into a remote folder to try to find the downloaded music and transfer to the Nomad....
Any help is appreciated..... I'm lost!
    Thanks

The firmware update only works on a windows XP machine.
you also need to have Windows media player 0 installed
you must not have windows media player or windows media player runtime lurking in your windows XP add/remove programmes bit on the control panel.
if you do have WMP first remove it ( roll back) then re-boot, then remove windows media player runtime ( rioll back) and re-boot.
open windows media player, if it is windows media player 0 then you should be OK, if its windows media player 9 you need ot download and install windows media player 0.
Check again to make sure that windows media player and windows media player runtime are not in the add/rmove programs.
Back up everything on the player, all music, playlists and data files.
    update the firmware.
if it stalls part way, like it did for me the last time i updated a Zen Xtra ( last weekend -installing a new motherboard ) dont panic.
it will go to rescue mode, close the firmware update, the player will go to rescue mode, then re-satart the update, on the zen xtra, slect re-load OS then on the firmware update click on English. then slect re-load os on the player.
make sure that the player is fully charged, and that the mains charger is also attached.
just out of interest, when you remove the front panel on your zen xtra to get to the battery, does the headphone jack ( visable through a hole in the top right) have a blob of red paint on

  • Where can i purchase a Nomad Jukebox Zen 6

Does anybody know where i can purchase a Nomad Jukebox Zen 60GB? I have tried **bleep** Smith, Tandy, JB HiFi, Retravision, all in the Ringwood area. Also tried JB HiFi in Knox and **bleep** Smith Powerhouse. The issue was not a lack of stock, but one of them simply not being sold there.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I just purchased a zen nx 30GB and have already problems with the audio jack it's defecti've.
Reading all the problems with audio jacks , and I wish i had read them prior to my purchase, I will never ever buy a creative product again.
Their aproach and putting out badly soldered audiojacks is a shamefull excuse for running a bussiness.
I wouls think twice if i were you.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!
