Nomad Jukebox 2LX Hard Dr

Hey guys. I dropped my Nomad Jukebox 2LX unit last night and the hard dri've didn't survi've the fall. The rest of the unit appears to be fine and starts in the manner I would expect.
Does anyone know what hard dri'ves a 2LX will support? It was a 20 GB initially, with a Fujitsu MHN2200AT. I'm thinking it should be fine on any MHN dri've. Is there a list somewhere of what it will support? Will a dri've that spins at over 4200 RPM decrease my battery life? Is there a maximum hard dri've size that the software will support? Any tips?
Thanks.
Tom

The only hard disk compatible thread I'm aware of is for the Zen (other than the very early NJB). This is over at Nomadness.net. You could try searching the NJB2 forum there to see if anyone mentions upgrades. Ordinarily faster spinning dri'ves don't work or have problems.

  • How to upgrade the hard disk of the nomad jukebox

I read the FAQ of nomad on nomadness.net, I wanna know how to upgrade the hard disk of old nomad jukebox with a bigger one?
I also read a artical on tom's hardware about this,
    http://www7.tomshardware.com/mobile/20000/mp3-3.html
    but he gave a link
    http://www.kuren.org/jukebox
that is not available. He mentioned that it need to clone the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk to the new one, but I have not the old hard disk( I bought a second hand nomad jukebox without the original hard disk). How should I do?
Does someone have the image file of the fist 65536 sectors from the old disk?
    Thank you!

That was the old method before Creative published their Bootcode Flasher software.
    Follow the instructions here:
    http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php...ticle&artid=24
All files mentioned are available somewhere on Nomadness. Also check out the sticky thread in their JB section of the forum as it lists what hard dri'ves will work in a JB and which ones won't. I hope you haven't already bought your upgrade hard dri've.
I used the above method without any problems and now have a 20GB JB.

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • Unable To Repair/Update Firmware for a Creative Nomad Jukebox

    Hello all,
I've been trying for the past...3 or 4 hours to get my player to work, but it simply refuses to work =P. I sent the problem into Creative, but haven't gotten a response for a couple days now. So, here's a copy-paste of what I sent in that e-mail. If you can think of anything that might help, please don't hesitate to post! I really need your help on this one!
My player's hard dri've recently died, and I received
a replacement from the original store (a CompUSA).
However, my Firmware for the device has failed. I
tried the firmware upgrade for my Zen, but after
a certain number of tries, I gave up. Here is the
list of steps that I followed.
On Zen: Click "Reload OS", let it run, it says
    run the firmware upgrader now.
On Computer: "You cannot install this firmware
update with your player's current drivers using
the SB394 connector. To update your player's
    firmware, this application will temporarily
replace the current drivers and restore them after
    the installation is complete. Continue
installation?", I click Yes. Then it says to
disconnect, and re-connect. I do it.
It shows my version (.2.0), and I'm upgrading/
repairing it to .2.02. When I click "Upgrade", a
warning message pops up and says:
"Your player cannot start up properly. Please
reboot your player and run this application again.
I've done this at least 0 times, and nothing changes. My player is a Nomad Jukebox Zen, the one with a FireWire connection, and like I said,
I've tried this at least 0 times with the same results. Is there a process to completely remove
the firmware on the device, then reinstall it,
or to roll it back or something? Any other ideas
to fix this problem is needed as well.

    Bump.

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra firmware quest

    Hello all,
happy to be on the boards. I have a few questions I would like to ask:
) what product do I have? on the front it says "nomad jukebox zen xtra" with 40gb on the side. is it a "zen xtra" or a "nomad jukebox"? I was trying to find updated firmware, but found both "zen xtra" and "nomad jukebox" on the creative site.
    2) i've read horror stories of firmware 2..03. is there newer or firmware that works?
    3) is there a way to treat this player as a regular hard dri've? as in when I plug it into Windows/Linux (Debian linux), it will be recognized as a regular hard dri've without much trouble?
    Thanks all!

    Oo
    ps.
I didn't mean to take the hard dri've out and use it as a computer hard dri've. I meant: is there a way (maybe changing firmware?) to make the creative plug and play with windows without installing drivers?
An example: I want to go to a friend's house, plug my creative in, and copy a 5gb ISO off his computer. This is assuming he doesn't have the creative drivers.
I read that the 2..03 (or whatever the bad one is called) is supposed to allow this. Any solutions?

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gp prob

Well, to start off with, I loved my mp3 player. So far, I ran into problems that I could not fix. I downloaded all of the updates that were needed. My mp3 player, a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60gb, suddenly would not work the same way. When the power adapter of battery are inserted, the player starts up. When they are pulled the player shuts down. One of the problems is when the player is on, it doesn't want to leave the main screen that says, "EAX". The hard dri've is not spinning, and no data is being accessed. I found on this website a page that tells users how to reset their mp3 player. For my mp3 player, it must be turned off for me to do a hard disk check, re-installation of operating system, or a format of the hard dri've...which is another problem, because I cannot turn it off. As I stated previously, the player is either on or off depending on if the battery is in or not. I am totally puzzeled. I cannot connect the player to the computer because of this problem. So either I have a new 60gb laptop hard dri've, or I figure out a way to get this to work. I haven't been able to find any threads like this or any users experiencing these problems.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -Matt

Ok... I think I figured it out. I finally got into the recovery mode. I let the battery sit out of the mp3 player for a while, hoping that there is a capacitor that would run out of power. I put the battery back in and got into recovery mode. I ran disk clean up. Nothing changed. I had the same problem I first started off with. So I took the battery out again for an hour. Came back, and got back into recovery mode. I reinstalled the OS. Everything seems to be working fine.
I hope that anyone having a similar problem with this mp3 player can keep this in the back of their mind if they cannot get into recovery mode due to a boot up and shut down problem.

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra driver for use with Vista 32 b

    Hi,
I just registered in an attempt to find a solution to using my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra player with Windows Vista 32 bit operating system. Unfortunately, my old computer died and all was lost so when I purchased a new computer I naturally went with the most recent operating system, it never occured to me that my wonderful MP3 player would be considered obsolete (my various printers are all much older than my mp3 player and they all work just fine, my multiple?digital cameras too) anyway, I am running around in circles and I would not consider myself highly technical. I cannot download the latest creative firmware because without a driver my device is not recognized, and thus, creative will not complete the download since my device is not recognized...... when I go to microsoft to look for "nati've drivers" as suggested by Creative somewhere in the maze I have been stumbling through, the link I found in a search on Microsoft's website sends me to a creative labs link that...interestingly....no longer exists.... I sent an email to customer support, but they happily sent me a form letter stating that my warranty is out of date so they have no assistance to offer unless I pay for a half hour of their time in advance, and I find it odd that I should pay money to risk being told that they have chosen not to support this device, because if I pay money to hear that I will immediately hate this company, and I don't want to throw in the towel just yet, anyway, another option stated in the form letter was to use this forum, so I am trying really hard to state the circumstances of my dilemma in a fair and open way. It seems to me that with all the energy that was put into that form letter, they could have written a letter that would address this issue directly as I cannot fathome that I am the only one with this problem. So, per the suggestion of the form letter, I am here to ask if anyone knows of a solution to making a Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra work with Windows Vista 32 bit operating system.....if there is none, then at least I will hear about it without paying Creative money to tell me so. If I should post my request to a different thread/topic area?on the forum, that information would be greatly appreciated too as I have never used a forum before and alot of the information on this site is more technical than I am used to. Thank you to anyone that can offer some guidance or a clear solution. Signed by a baffled Creative customer....Dani

Try reading this thread. I had the same problem and the solution worked for me. http://forums.creative.com/creativel...a&message.id=7?

  • NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra file recovery from working harddri

My USB port on my NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra is basically non-functional. The drive works fine so i'm not trying to recover "corrupted" files, just ones that exist on the drive... Is there any way I can access the files on the hard drive directly if I remove it from my Nomad Is there any way to use a hard drive connector (from a USB case) where the board plugs into the drive and the other end connects via USB to my computer (which has my Nomad software on it's) As the USB connector on the Nomad isn't working, is there any way i can get my music off the drive
    Thanks!

Does this happen with all tranfers or any certain audio files? Have you try reinstalling the driver or try running Cleanup in Rescue mode.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra PLEASE HE

My player was locked on the EAX screen, and I figured out how to get to the rescue mode, and I clicked "Clean Up" and then pressed the check, and then it went back to the rescue mode screen and nothing's happening. Where do I go from here? What does the "Reboot" button do? How can I get it to work again without loosing all of my files?
Please help me!Message Edited by refeik on 07-4-2005 02:34 AM

is this the first time this has happened?
If it is, then the only way i know how to fix it is keep pressing the reset button with a paper clip. If that doesnt work, a worst-comes-to-worst solution is to bang your player hard against a desk, this can help because, in your situation, your Hard Dri've may be stuck, hitting it may help get loose and working again.
I used to have a Nomad Jukebox like you, and that worked twice for me, the last time it got stuck, it never worked again.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB not playing correctly anymore, help!!

Thanks. I keep getting directed to that knowledge base page, but it is not addressing my problem. My computer immediately tells me that the device has "malfunctioned" and the computer does not recognize it. I only have the usb cord that came with the zen, so I don't have another one to try. I love my zen and have staunchly defended it over the years vs. an i-pod. However, this is my 2nd onI've had my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB for over 5+ years. It has worked great, with minimal problems. I had a firmware update issue quite a while back. I'm not sure how to resolve this problem. Here is the situation:
Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB is fully charged and ready to use.
I tried loading a set playlist but it won't load. So I tried another, and it doesn't load. Not sure what to do, I go to the menu. This time I choose an artist/band. The music loads, but it doesn't play. I try again, then it starts to play. So I load a few other artists that way. It seems like I had a issue to work out later. Being away from my computer that was going to have to wait. After some time the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB started to start N stop diferent songs. A few times it froze while playing a song. Then would unfreeze to play another, then suddenly start playing the previous one. After about 0-5 minutes of this I decided I had enough. So I planned to empty the playlist, and turn it off. It took me atleast three attempts to empty the playlist and turn it off.
Are these problems fixable What are they hardware or software
Would an OS or firmware update fix these problems Is my Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60GB hard dri've going Can I get a replacement Or do I need to buy a new player
Please help me get my player working. I really like this model, I'd hate to have to replace it.
in 5 years. (The first one fried itself, but fortunately was still under warrantly.) Sadly, I, too, am considering moving on. I onlyreceived generic help fromthe Creative SupportTeam (who ultimately told me my zen is "unrepairable" when their one-size-fits-all solutions didn't work).Since there seems to be an overwhelming # of people experiencing similar problems, maybe the time is right to make the change, especially since an iPod classic 60 GB (7th Generation) is quite affordable these days.
    [/B]

Formatting will erase all the files on the player,Cleanup scans the disc & corrects file system errors, broken links (from when you delete things)ect. but does NOT repair bad sectors,Reboot then rebuilds the file system. I'd do the Cleanup>Reboot first to see if that solves the problem.here you will find how to open the player to see what dri've is in there. You can then search Ebay or Google the model number to find another one.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen - music is trapped! HE

I've got a Nomad Jukebox Zen. This was one of the first ones I believe. version .00.04 (20GB model) Anyway, this mp3 player was buried in my closet for the last few years and I've since purchased a new player. I would like to get some of the music off the old player to transfer to my computer for the new player, but my computer won't recognize it. I don't have the original software and since it's an older model, Creative ain't talking. I've tried downloading the drivers that they have available but nothing works. Any suggestions on how to get my computer to just recognize it as basically an external hard drive

What P.C operating system are you using ( ie windows Vista/XP/me/98)
http://www.nomadness.net have some old driver software etc available

  • Nomad Jukebox 2

I am new to the forums so I am sorry if I do something wrong or make a stupid question but I have a nomad jukebox 2 with a 0gb hard dri've in it. I want to be able to use it as an external hard dri've because I have a CD player for my truck that allows me to attach an external hard dri've via USB and play the music directly from the device and the cd player can scroll through the hard dri've for the music I am looking for. Is there any way to turn the nomad into something like this? Thanks again for your help.

Hello Will, Nomad Jukebox 2 is very old product (but I still like it). Its USB port does not support as external HDD (eg. as external Flash disk). This USB port on Nomad Jukebox 2 can be connected with PC only for download or upload songs, playlists, etc. Nomad Jukebox 2 communicate only with Creative SW (CMS_PCAPP_LB_2_03_29.exe) and only via special installed Creative USB driver (nmdrv_us.exe). Maybe it can function with some other music players eg. WMP or Winamp, I am not sure.
If you do not need your Nomad Jukebox 2, you can send me it, because in my Nomad Jukebox 2 failed electronic board and I have 6GB HDD full with my favorite songs without backup. I would like to listen them and I cannot. Thank you for your understanding. Tomas

  • Nomad Jukebox 3 Scroll Wheel Not Work

I've had a Nomad Jukebox 3 for about 5 years, but rarely used it. I started using it recently and have discovered the scroll wheel is going bad. It only scrolls correctly in one direction (most of the time). If you scroll in the other direction, the scroll is random and jumps around.
Because the scroll wheel is the primary/only means of navigation, it makes the player very clumbsy to use and almost worthless. Is anyone else having this?issue?with the scroll wheel? If so, is there a fix?

Here's some pasted text from www.nomadness.net that should be helpful to you. Some identities have been shown to give credit to the original posters.
    Scrollwheel Fix - Finally!
Theyisus writes "Since it seems that quite a few people suffer from the absolutely annoying problem of an erratic scrollwheel, which affects some of the Nomad Players - this solution will probably be welcomed by many. I came a across it while browsing through the Creative Newsgroup. I've tried it and it definitely solved the problem... hopefully on a permanent basis."
It involves using a very small amount of a product sold at Radio Shack for about $0 , called Tuner Control - Cleaner & Lubricant (Cat No. 64-435), which comes in the form of a pressurized spray and is reportedly safe on plastics.
The best and safest way I found to apply it, was by opening the Jukebox (you?ll find links on how to do this under the Articles section of this site).
Once the cover was removed, I applied as small an amount as possible to the scrollwheel?s underside ? it is harder than it looks because the contents are under pressure, so I soaked a Q-Tip and squeezed a few (small) drops wherever I found a willing opening.
After that, I rotated the Scrollwheel thoroughly in both directions and also pressed it in a few times.
Subsequently, I applied some Dust-Off, (which is simply a compressed gas duster) in order to remove any excess lubricant - I did this a few times, allowing some drying periods in between.
After half an hour and one last dust-off for good measure... and when I felt confident that everything was dry, I closed the little spoilt beast back up... and, (reminding myself not to be too over-eager to discover the results of the operation), I replaced the batteries, and fired the critter up.
It is now working as well as it ever did? and hopefully for good! Bravo! WARNING! I would advise everyone to remember that opening a player up, and fooling with its innards can be a delicate matter, and can have varying results (some not so pleasant). So be careful, and remember that you (like me) do it at your own risk. It will also void your warranty, if you are still covered. Cheers. "

  • Nomad Jukebox Protected Tra

Greetings, I have an old Creative Nomad Jukebox (6gb). There are about 3 gigs of music that are on it right now. What I need to do is transfer all the mp3s to my computer's hard dri've. I know how to do it through MediaSource, but the problem is that about 3/4 of the tracks are protected and it will not transfer the tracks that are protected. I have looked through the Jukebox's settings and I cant find any options to unprotect the tracks. I have also looked everywhere in MediaSource and cant find any options to unprotect the tracks there either. I have already gone to nomadness.net and tried the mass unprotect program...it gets errors and i've tried it on two of my computers already, both running windows xp. I have even downloaded PlayCenter2 and tried that, there arent any options in there as well.
So am I missing somewhere to unprotect the tracks or can it just not be done? If it cant be done i will have lost a lot of music that took a very long time to get. Thanks for your help.

If the battery is more than a few years old may be time for a new one. Lots of sellers on ebay . A few have the OEM batteries for sale. I would only buy the OEM ones.

Have you tried the Rescue Mode options such as Clean Up and Format? See the sticky thread for the details.
My JB is still going strong, though it has its 2nd 20GB hard dri've in it now! Both the 6GB and the previous 20GB were still working though I sometimes got transfer errors with the first 20GB which is why I changed it again.
