Good day,
I thought I'd share this information since I couldn't find anything about it during the past few weeks when I was looking.
I decided to leap into the MP3 world and after much research concluded the Jukebox 3 was the player for me, only to find out it was no longer manufactured! So I continued my hunt and decided on a Nomad Zen Xtra 30GB unit.
The only problem is it says it needs Windows 98SE and I unfortunately am still running 98 (laugh if you must). So when I got the unit I thought I might as well try and see if it works before going through all the hassle of upgrading an operating system.
It works! I was able to install the CD and update the new drivers, firmware and Nomad Explorer files off of Creative Downloads. The only thing that does not work is Creative MediaSource/Organizer software. This isn't too big a deal from what I can see as it is the MP3 ripper. I downloaded a freeware program called CDex (which is great by the way) and I rip all my CD's using this then use NOMAD Explorer to load it on the dri've. FYI, I also had to download the latest Adaptec APSI driver as well so CDex would work.
Nomad Explorer can also set-up the playlists although I understand it is somewhat easier using the Creative software. I am not sure if I am missing any other big features but it seems to be doing everything I want of it and I love it.
Anyhow, I'm about 8GB into it and all is working very well and I am happy that I didn't have to spend hours on a operating system upgrade.

I have a Zen Xtra 40GB and I'm using Windows 98SE and I have not been able to get things to work. I tried using the installation disk and it could not complete the install....it would hang up at the point where the drivers were being loaded. After some playing around I got the drivers installed, but Nomad Explorer did not see that the MP3 player was connected. I also tried MediaSource (it loaded on just fine) and it recognized the player, but would crash when the program tried to "read" from the player. I plan to return the player and get my money back.

I was hoping someone can please help me out here in Forum Land ?I just bought a new computer with WINDOWS VISTA and my Installation disk is not compatible. I have tried d/l from this site with no luck. It will go to the WIZARD part but won't finish the installation. I need to get the Software on my new puter for my NOMAD ZEN XTRA 30GB MP3 Player.Namely I guess the Creative MediaSource and it's amazing Organizer.Any links or steps in how too would be most appreciated I have emailed the Creative team but I keep get stuck at what to do next. They said something about installing and completing the firmware update, your player will be using the PlaysForSure software, but on the same sentence he/she says "However you will need to do this on an XP system".. and I have Vista so I am totally confused. I also checked out the site he/she suggested about installing this FirmWare and that site says "Back up all audio, video, image or data files stored in the player to a secure location before changing the firmware. All contents in the player will be lost when you install a new firmware"? -- How can I back up when I can't access it's And surely, I don't want to lose my over 2,500 songs ! Yikes... Tips on changing from Zen Nomad Jukebox Extra to Zen V Plu

My new Zen V Plus is on its way to me. I am looking for any tips or advice on changing over from the Zen Nomad Jukebox. For instance, is it the same Mediasource program (I have ver. 2.03.29 now)? Will my songs and playlist be able to go over to the new device seamlessly? Ideally I'd like to connect both devices to my PC and then use Mediasource to transfer from the Jukebox to the V Plus, possible? Thanks in advance for any help.........

Scheidhaus: I would hope that the aircraft isn't interfering with the player, and I honestly can't imagine it would. I have heard of one case before with a Nomad Jukebox that failed to work when the player was at altitude, along with another recent post here about this. All I can think is that the air pressure on the plane is a factor and is causing problems with the hard disk. Very strange though.
Have you simply tried resetting the player when you have problems? You'll need to keep a paper clip with you for this, or borrow one from the cabin crew

Another 40 Gig Zen Xtra prob

I figured out my problem from before, windows screwed up with installing the drivers from the program, I had to install them manually, but I have a new problem. Since I fixed that, I tried to load the firmware on the Xtra, but it gave me a message saying battery levels are too low.. no problem I figured, i'll just turn it off and recharge it, well everytime I try to turn it off, it freezes up, my only way to fix it is to take the battery out, but when I replace it, it turns back on, I try to turn it off and it freezes up again, I guess installing the new firmware might fix it, but is the player capable of charging while it's turned on?

Ok...if you are trying to charge your 40 gb zen xtra and the zen xtra won't turn off or freezes...while taking the battery out, pull the plastic strip under the battery up and don't place the battery down for about 5 second, than you will be able to charge the player no problem.

Creative Zen Xtra No Longer Visi

I have had my Zen Xtra 40 gb for about 3 years now and I loved it. The problem is now, windows will no longer even recognize the device is connected, nor will the player recognize that it is connected via USB. The problem occured when I was cleaninng out the hard dri've to make room for new songs. I left the player alone and when I returned, I saw that the player had been disconnected from the computer, but the cord was still attached on both ends. I restarted my computer, restarted and rebooted my player, used different USB cables and plugs with no luck. I even thought it was my computer and tried another USB device, but it worked with no problem.
I have looked through the forums and tried everything I saw about making my player "MTP" but I cannot update the firmware because it will not recognize the connection. I have reinstalled Mediasource as well as the new drivers to see if that helped to no avail. The player is not listed in the device manager, nor do I think it ever was, but I could be mistaken, I just don't remember.
I just really want this to work again. This would be the third problem in 3 years. Creative was very nice about getting my problems fixed before, but now that my warranty is up, I am out of options. If I would have known I would have had these problems, I would have bought the extended warranty, I just didn't expect this.

Help. I just bought a new computer, old one died. The new computer has windows vista and windows media player installed. i cannot get my player to work, it is not recognized, and the original software keeps getting shut down by windows. Can anyone tell me if there are updates and in what order I need to due them in. I have looked all over the creative web site and can't seem to find the correct solution. I also tried contacting tech support via email and they don't want to help since the player is out of warranty and just said to go to the web site, which of course I already tried, with no luck.

I am going to call a friend tomorrow who may still have xp. i'd like to know if i should and can it be done and if so how. To back up the original fimware that is on the player. and how would I reinstall it after if I needed too. i read through the link you provided a lot of good info but also seems a little like a could be in for a rough ride. Basically i should be able to upgrade the firmware and then the player will be recognized in vista. is that correct?as long as the computer I use has xp and windows media player 0.
?I like media source organizer but as long as I can transfer songs to the player I'll be happy. I can easily li've without media source organizer.

iphones are not storage devices and are not to be used to transfer music from one computer to another. Older Ipods can be used as hard drives.

Nomad Explorer not detecting Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra after firmware upgr

Thanks, but if the Nomad Explorer requires the suite to work, I'll just have to do without it. The Creative Suite is better than it used to be, but IMO it's still not as good as MediaMonkey. Still, Creative doesn't list the Suite as being required for Explorer to work, so I don't think that's it. From the Download page:?Requirements

Zen Xtra 30 Gig Firmware Problems! H

Ive had my Zen Xtra 30 Gig For a While Now, it worked just fine today. I thought I would update the firmware on it, so I downloaded the New Firmware for it, and Followed the Directions. And now it wont work!
"Before installing the firmware update, be sure that you have:Charged the player's batteryConnected the power cableTurned off your playerDisconnected your player's USB cable from your computerTo install the firmware update, you must first remove the firmware in your player using the Reload OS function:Press and hold the Play button, while inserting a pin or paper clip into the Reset button on your player. Ive done the "relod OS opition" and mow my Computer wont recognize my Player. Ive done the clean up option, and even tried a differnt USB port on my computer and it still wont recognize it. Its basically stuck in "rescue Mode". What Should I do? Ive got around 6 or 7 Gigs of Music on it so I dont really want to format it, But will a Format do the Trick for me?

I'm unsure what your problem is. Is it that your PC won't recognise your Zen Xtra when you plug in the USB cable? I had this problem and had to reinstall the device drivers here

Zen xtra 40 gig help

I got my Zen Xtra today. I changed all the ID3 tags of every MP3 I have to organze all my music on the MP3 player, but when i go into the artists list... It will have 2 seperte artists for the same one, for example it will say 50 cent and then 50 cent right under it, the name spelled the same way. This happens with a few artists. usually, most of the songs for that artist are under the top name and or 2 are under the 2nd. Please tell me how to fix this, I spent 3 hours fixing the Tags and I dont want it all to go to waste

NOMAD ZEN XTRA MENU VOICE R

I have a blind teenager who uses the 30 gig zen xtra and finds it very difficult to navigate the units menu,s. Is there an option or firmware that will read the menu to him as he scrolls through it when he uses the unit.

Unfortunately not. I guess it's a case of remembering the steps required to access each feature. I believe the Xtra has a back button, which should be useful in resetting back to the beginning of a sequence. It would also be good if Creative could add something like this in a future firmware.

I have a Zen Xtra 60GB and also have no install disk (Ok, I admit it... I sat on it) and need to install the software on a new comp.
I downloaded the three updates listed above, installed the first one then connected my player. My comp recognised the player. When I tried to install the second one I got the following error message;
'Creative MediaSource NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen Plugin requires Creative MediaSource (v3.20.57) and above to run properly. If you do not have any of these installed, please install them before running this Setup program.'
Setup will exit....yada yada
I cant immediately see on the downloads list what I should be installing to correct this.

Firmware: .03.02 ------ I would hazard a guess that this may need updating
