Nomad MuVo2 File organization H

Hey all, I have a 4 GB MuVo2 and I was wondering how I can organize my files within a folder by track number. When I view a folder in Windows, I can select Details to show name, album, track, etc. I can then sort by track number for an album and it will rearrange my files by track, ,2,3, etc. When I upload that folder to my MuVo2, they are?put in alphabetical order. Does the MuVo2 only read and organize by name? Would the ONLY way to get these files in order by track is to put an 0, 02, 03 etc. in front of each name on each file

you;d have to put the "0,02,03.etc" in front of the track names, I had a movo2 and had the same question, but worked it out quickly... It's not really that time consuming, and worth it if you want to scroll through songs

  • WHY does the finder insist on rearranging the files in a folder in alphabetical order even when I have selected "none" in the preferences for file organization?

WHY does the finder insist on rearranging the files and/or documents in a folder in alphabetical order even when I have selected "none" in the preferences for file organization? Even after I numbered the documents/folders to keep them in my preferred order, it will still displace them occasionally. This is becoming increasingly frustrating!
Is this a "Pages" issue or "FInder"? The vast majority of documents I use are in Pages, but there are also Numbers, PDFs, jpegs and a few other applications involved. This never happened before I upgraded to Mountain Lion; in Tiger, the documents (mostly Appleworks) and files stayed where I wanted them to be.
I am visually oriented, and prefer to arrange items in a folder in an order that makes them easier for me to access, which is often NOT alphabetical.
Can anyone suggest a solution? Please??
    Thank you.
    Sara

    nbar,
    Thank you for your reply.
However, I do not understand what you mean by "user account." I am the only user, and can find no options for "user" or "guest." The parental controls have always been off, as there are no other people who have access to my computer.
    Frank,
    Thank you for your reply.
All my documents, files and folders are in icon view, Arranged By: none in both view and view options. This arbitrary rearranging does not happen all the time, only when I make a substantial change to one of the documents in the file or folder. I'm not sure what you mean by "column heading."
    MichaelLAX,
    Thank you for your reply.
I know, to my sorrow, that Appleworks does not work with Mountain Lion. I spent at least three months converting approximately 2,000 Appleworks documents to Pages, Numbers, Bento (for databases) and Touchdraw (for drawings). So this is not the problem; but as I said, I did not have this rearranging problem with Appleworks - the icons stayed where I wanted them to be. I still miss the ease and reliability of Appleworks, darn it!
    Frank,
Thank you for your second reply.
I do have the Sort By: in view options as well as in view set to "none."   The finder still insists on rearranging, but only when I have made a substantial change to a document in that file or folder.
    Any futher thoughts?
    xdab,
    Thank you for your reply.
"Are you are using icon view, but for some reason the finder moves files around? is that the problem?"
YES!! This is exactly the problem.
"If this operation is successful then erase the original and rename the new one to the name originally chosen by the user."
This seems like a lot of trouble, especially as I often work on several documents at the same time.
"By the way, the finder has a "clean up by" menu that rearranges icons in one of the standard orders, there are shortcuts that produce the same effect, for example <option><cmd>1 sorts them by name. Is it possible that this shortcut was typed by mistake without you noticing?"
I do know about this "clean up by" option, and avoid it like the plague! So I doubt this is the issue, and I infrequently use keyboard shortcuts like this anyway.
Thanks all who replied. None of the suggestions seem to work, however. Any others out there?

  • Nomad Muvo2 fm (5GB) should I buy

I'm thinking of getting the Nomad muvo2 fm (5GB) I know it's a older model but its stats still shape up pretty well. Can any one give me reasons not to buy it's Or if they have had problems with them.
I'm worried about buying the Zen Micro because of the problem with jack.

I generally hear good things about the MuVo?, there are of course some players that have had problems like any player.

How do I access and use the file organization and re-naming features?

In the latest version of reader, these features are all available in the Documents Panel:

  • Need input on Nomad Muvo2 4GB, plea

    Hello all.
I am new to the mp3 world and have placed an order for the Nomad Muvo2 4GB--it is not too late to cancel. I have read as many reviews as possible (cnet, amazon, consumer reports, etc.). Overall, the reviews appear to be fairly positi've. But, I have a few questions because a few trends have surfaced in my reading.
    # - Does this player suffer from the headphone jack nightmare other Creative products have?
#2 - Does the hard dri've actually produce clicking sounds during use--and is it a glitch?
#3 - Is this mp3 player prone to problems that surface right around the 90-day warranty?
#4 - Can this mp3 player be used during exercise (ie jogging) without adversely affecting its performance?
#5 - Should I consider another model (or maker)? My budget is very limited, though. I found the Muvo2 for $09; I can't afford to go much higher.
Thanks for any input you might provide.

I've had the Muvo2 for about 6 months now and have used it regularly and I have to say it works great! In answer to your questions ....
) No, I've never had a problem with the headphone jack. It works fine with no clicking or popping.
    2) The hardri've you can only hear a slight clicking in a dead silent room and it's only when it starts up. While it's running, you can't hear it at all.
    3) Again, I've had it 6 month without so much as a glitch. No freeze ups, nothing.
    4) I use it during my workouts at the gym but I only use an ellipse machine or a stair climber ... in addition to lifting weights. None of those exercises will jar it much. I'm not sure how it would fare using it to jog but in general, a flash player would be much better suited for jogging. Problem is, on your $00, give or take a few bucks budget, you'll probably only be getting about a 256mb player.
    5) Again, I think I answered your question above. You pretty much get what you pay for and if you have an extensi've library of music, you'll definitely need a hard dri've based player. If you don't have a lot of music and you're willing to listen to an FM radio some of the time, there are a few of them out there. Not only from Creative, but from iri'ver, rca, etc.
I would definitely recommend this player though because it sounds great and has an FM radio.
    Hope this helped!

  • Time machine and file organization

    Does time machine:
    Store everything into one file
Make an special folder and stores files in there
Make an special folder and makes subfolders and then stores it in the subfile
    or
Stores all backed up files on to the external HDD with no organization

Time Machine creates a folder named Backups.backupd on the destination drive. Inside Backups.backupd it creates a folder whose name is your computer's name. (This way, I think, you can use the same Time Machine drive for more than one computer.) Inside that folder are folders whose names are timestamps: one folder for every snapshot that Time Machine has taken of your hard drive. (These are periodically trimmed according to the daily, weekly, and monthly consolidations.) Each of these folders contains folders which are (essentially) an exact replica of your hard drive. So the answer to your questions is, perhaps,
    Store everything into one file
    NO!
Make an special folder and stores files in there
Yes, in the sense that this is the Backups.backupd folder or the Backups.backupd/Machine Name folder. But there is more organization than just that.
Make an special folder and makes subfolders and then stores it in the subfile
This is even more accurate, until reaching the singular form of the subfile. The backups are stored in the subfolders of the special folder(s) in a hierarchical form which mirrors the layout of your hard drive. In particular, in no sense is each backup a flat file.
Stores all backed up files on to the external HDD with no organization
    NO!
In case you are wondering, I suspect that when Time Machine needs to "backup" a file which is unchanged from the last backup, it simply creates a hard link. This is why the space used by the backups--and the time required for all but the first backup--is significantly less than the sum of the apparent space used by each backup.
Also, amongst the folders for each backup, labelled by the time stamp, is a soft link named "Latest" to the latest backup. This makes it easy to find the last backup.
    I hope this helps.

  • IPhoto 08 file organization

Has anyone checked to see if iPhoto 08 gives any new options for organizing photos? I can't stand the way it organizes folders. Is there any options to simply link to the photos vs. put them in an iPhoto library?
    Thanks,
    Angelo

    Angelo
Is there any options to simply link to the photos vs. put them in an iPhoto library?
You ca do this now with v6. Simply uncheck the 'Copy Files to iPhoto Library Folder...' in the Preferences -> advanced' tab.
Mind you, I don't recommend it. It makes importing and deleting pics more complex, as well as migrating to a new machine. Plus, unless you're using a second photo organiser, I've yet to see a good reason the do it. There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

  • File organizations issues

I just upgraded from LP7 to LP9 and am having some trouble with my sample instruments. With LP7, I've had my sample files (EXS, Ultrabeat and Garageband) on a secondary internal hard drive with aliases in the default location under app support. So when I installed 9, I just copied the new sample files to the same secondary hard drive, and created the appropriate aliases. Of course, because of the new organization of sample instruments with 9, I ended up with a bunch of duplicate files. In trying to remove some duplicates, I messed some things up, so I decided to delete all the samples from the drive (after backing up of course), reinstall and then redo the copying/aliasing process. Since then, I've had a few problems.
First, Ultrabeat doesn't seem to be able to locate any of its samples. I've checked a few presets, and only the synthesized voices are working. Sometimes I get prompted to locate a certain file, other times not. Is there a quick way I can get Ultrabeat to relocate all these files? A few EXS instruments are also unable to find the files, but I get a different error message for these. Instead of prompting me to locate the sample, the message said something like "Error 43, file not found"--then Logic crashed. Does this mean it's something other than the sample files it can't find? Like the plugin preset or channel strip setting? I haven't moved any of these presets, only the sample files themselves.
Second, while I don't have duplicate sample files, I seem to have duplicate channel strip settings in my library. I'm not sure whether this is because of my LP7 content/Garageband content, or if its just the way things are organized. For example, the preset "South African Singers" exists in both Shared Garageband Settings > Choir and 11 World Music > African. I had the Shared Garageband Settings path already, because I had a couple of the jam packs before I upgraded, but I don't know whether or not this is where LP9 would have installed new jam pack content anyway. Can anyone confirm whether or not these duplicates should exist? They aren't a real problem, but if I'm cycling through channel strip presets, sometimes instead of jumping to the next preset in the current list, it will jump to the same preset in another location--this can be a little confusing. Also, in my instrument channel strip preset there are multiple folders with the same numerical prefix but different (though often related) content. For example, on the main level of my instrument channel strip settings, both "acoustic pianos" and "electric pianos" have the prefix 02.
Can anyone recommend a way to clean all this mess up? Should I delete all my channel strips and plugin presets and reinstall again? Thanks.

  • Music file organization issue.

Here's the thing. I'm a little bit OCD with the location and organization of the music files that are on my computer. Everything I have, music, movies, tv shows, apps are all sorted properly under the large folder of "iTunes Media". If I view the properties of the music folder, it overstates the number of files that are in that folder. So lets say I have 5000 items listed in the iTunes library. I know that all of these are files are located in this one music folder. If I view the properties of the music folder of where these 5000 should be located, it gives me what seems like a random number higher than the 5000 files.  When I dig deeper into the music folder, (folders of all the artists) a folder with 10 files (songs), the property of that specific folder states that there are 16 files. In other words, the properties states there are 16 files, but once I get to the individual files of that folder, there really are just 10 files.
This has happened on many occations, with mulitple artists. What I have been doing to fix this is just deleting those folders (the artist) and copying them back from my external. When I copy them back, a folder with 10 files stated in the properties actually have 10 files. It's only later (and randomly) when the number of files balloon under the properties. Why is this happening?
I love to hear if the number of items in your iTunes library match the number of files that is stated in the properties of where ever your music files are organized. If you don't keep everything stored in one folder then they probably won't match up.
Maybe I should just get over it, but I'm just thowing this out there.
    Thanks in advance.

It is possible that at some point perhaps when migrating your library from one machine to another, or backing it up, that you've ended up connecting to the wrong set of library files. Since your media folder appears to be in the correct location for a Mac I wonder if it is the library file that is wrong.
If you start up the iTunes with the external drive disconnected will the library load? If not, what happens to the location of the media path after you cancel the missing library dialog, connect the drive and restart iTunes?
Ideally you want both the library folder and the media folder to be in the same place, with the media folder being a subfolder of the library folder. If your library isn't currently in this layout then let me know where the two folders are and I will suggest some remedial action.

  • Script/Configuration files organization

Just for a curiosity matter, how do you organize your files?
I use a formatting for my configuration files and scripts like this ( Takes too much time to comment like that ):
    #---[ Aliases ]---
    alias ls='ls --color=auto'
    #+++[ Aliases ]+++
    #---[ System settings ]---
    limit -s coredumpsize 0

    #---Directory---
    # AUTO_CD peform cd if a directory name is given
    # AUTO_PUSHD cd push the old directory onto the directory stack
    # CD_ABLE_VARS expand text (if not a command nor a directory in PWD) to ~/text
    # PUSH_IGNORE_DUPS prohibit duplicate directories in the directory stack
    # PUSHD_SILENT do not print directory stack after pushd popd
    # PUSHD_TO_HOME 'pushd' acts like 'pushd $HOME'
    setopt AUTO_CD AUTO_PUSHD CD_ABLE_VARS PUSHD_IGNORE_DUPS PUSHD_SILENT PUSHD_TO_HOME

    # NO_LIST_BEEP no beeping
    setopt ALWAYS_TO_END AUTO_LIST NO_LIST_BEEP

EDIT: Does anyone have vim macros to do that?
    Last edited by hack.augusto (2008-11-27 21:31:37)

Did you mean something like this?
    Premacro:
    my section title*curser is here*
    Postmacro:
    #---my section title---
    *curser is here*
    #+++my section title+++
If thats what you meant than this should do it..
    I#<Esc>yyp3a+<Esc>3A+<Esc>k3A-<Esc>03a-<Esc>o<Esc>
You can map that to a key using the syntax below (in this case the key is ';')
    :map ; I#<Esc>yyp3a+<Esc>3A+<Esc>k3A-<Esc>03a-<Esc>o<Esc>
After doing the above,  you just type the section title, hit esc, then hit ';' and you'll have your pre/post comments.
If you take out the last <Esc> you'll be left in insert mode rather than command mode.
EDIT: Vim folding might useful to you.. allowing you to collapse/expand sections. (I don't use it much.. so dunno how well it works..)

  • Nomad MuVo2 4gb-not longer loading fi

Last night I after adding new songs to my nomad player I got a smart scan alert, unable to get out of recovery mode (even after following all the trouble shooting directions in the manual) I ended up cleaning the storage memory. Now when I try to upload songs to the player I get a Windows (XP) error that it can't get the file to the device. Then the player stalls and is unable to disconnect properly, leading to it either going into scan mode (scenario A in the manual), or I have to pop out the batter to get it to function again. I was able to get an album or two on there but now now I can't even get one song. Is this a larger hardware problem? It was working like a dream previously.

Try a disk cleanup from rescue mode. If you get media errors then it's most likely that the hard disk is failing or has failed.

  • How to get iTunes and Mac OS 10.5 to leave my file organization alone

I’ve organized my MP3 files for iTunes (using Mac OS 10.5.6) on a MacBook Pro. I did this manually since I have over 600 folders and thousands of song files. iTunes had created a mess. For example some albums were split up into different artists, composers or album names. Some files names began with a space or a dash, so they were our of alphabetical order. There were all kinds of nonsence with duplicated files etc. Once I got things all cleaned up and orderly I tried to make a backup of the master list by copying the files to a peripheral hard drive. The backup folders instantly reverted and even compounded the chaos that I had just fixed! If I delete all files from iTunes and reimport I end up with the same mess. How can I get iTunes and Mac OS 10.5 to leave my organization the way I want it and not revert to the old mess?

    I don't understand.
If you uncheck *Copy files to iTunes music folder...* and *Keep iTunes music folder organized*, iTunes will not mess with the files unless you are RIPping them from CD using iTunes.
How do I change the tags so they are organized the way I want.
I don't know how you want them organized.
iTunes uses the tags and puts them into Artist/Album folders based on the ID3 tags.
If you are not using iTunes to organize stuff and simply naming things as you want, tags are irrelevant to how you put the files into folders and what you name the files.
When I copy the master list (with my organization) from one peripheral drive to another the files show up with the old names and folders.
    Okay.

  • Opening an existing file for CS Review & file organization

    1. Is there a way to take a file that's already been uploaded to Acrobat and start a CS Review?
    2. Is there a way to organize files into a folder or similar structure?
    Thanks

I wish I could say "Aha! - that's it!", because that would mean I have the knowledge behind what's going on.
It was my late husband who undertook the enormous burden of importing three travel sites I'd made in Drumbeat 2000 into a portal site he created in Dreamweaver 8, and spending uncountable hours fiddling with them to make them at least sound enough to be seen.
Still, I would guess you're right, inasmuch as the sites are indeed still so full of .html errors -- he stopped wasting his time on the once he'd got them to lock-down, as it were: the 'import' command was always a piece of gross exaggeration -- that I'd have to sit here opening and closing 'em for weeks before DW8 got any kind of feeling it'd dealt with them all.
I think your response tells me, at least, that what's going on doesn't mean anything frightening...
Whereas it had alarmed me, this business of the files changing upon being opened, it's now just something to make me sigh; but I can go ahead and make little corrections, here and there...
I'm going to recreate them all, one day.
Thank-you very much indeed for your input.

  • UsiTime Machine to move an old machine's file organization to a new machine

I have an Old 24" IMac and an newer imac. Time Machine is resident on an external HD, and I want to swap out machines, BUT while preserving the organization and files of the older machine.
Possible? Or must I reformat, port from Snow Leopard or Leopard and use the utilities==? restore option?
    Thanks

    Thanks,
nice to find more paranoid people...I learnt the hard way. When Time Machine was new I embraced it with relief told a machine about to be moved out of production to make a back up...it reported that it had. I erased the machine...successive 1s and 0s and then found Time Machine reported incorrectly, it made a disk image not a full backup. Sixteen years of data gone...three weeks to pice it together from network, thumb drives, CDs and Zip drive backups...never fully. After a go round with Apple support up the chain, Apple made a service and interface change so others could not do the same. The old adage: "I may be paranoid...but it doesn't mean that they are not out to get me" resonates here. Your procedure suggestions are helpful.
Yes, I have used Wikidot since Snow Leopard came out. Many problems are identified, including the one with the Adobe products. But not many fixes are posted unfortunately. The site has a neat little client for you own machine to scour problem software that one may have installed. I found it useful.
    RE the new machine...it is brand new out of the box. Well new three months ago, I have not had time to put it in production till now. I am inclined to update to Snow leopard and then add files....living a bit dangerously. BUT I will not give up the full back up... just in case. (-;
Thanks also for the tip to Carbon Copy Cloner...I am will acquire it asap.
