Nomad Zen 2.0 with Vi

My beloved Nomad Zen won't work with Vista Home Premium and there are no downloads to update it. I believe there's some way I can make the software and driver compatible, but I can't make the driver work. I have tried the "Compatible" mode on the properties option, but it won't load the driver. Is there anywhere which has a driver that will work with Vista?

Success! If you find the driver exe file and right click on it, then select "Properties", you get a "Compatibility" tab. Select this and chose the Windows XP SP2 option, then run the program. I now have the Nomad working on Vista with Creative PlayCenter (do the same "Compatibility" trick) before running the exe file)

  • Creative Nomad Zen Jukebox issue with Vi

I have used this forum to get my Zen installed properly on the vista machine that i purchased recently. I then downloaded the Nomad explorer from Creative, and i can see all the songs in my player on my machine. The problem is that i am unable to copy the songs on my laptop. When i copy the songs, it shows that the copy is in progress and eventually nothing gets copied. I am really not sure what is happening...
    Any ideas?

My understanding is that it wouldn't accept files over 2Gb. The problem with loading any large file is that if you have some problem with USB during the download it will fail.
Try splitting the file into significantly smaller chunks to see if this helps, say 00Mb.

  • Windows XP driver problem - Nomad Zen Xtra and Zen To

I have both a Nomad Zen Xtra 60GB and a Zen Touch 20GB, both of which were working fine with my Windows XP Pro SP2 computer until a couple of days ago. I had recently put firmware 2.0.03 onto the Zen Xtra, and was using the drag-and-drop method in Windows Explorer to copy loads of albums across to it from my music folder. It seems I might have tried to copy too much over at one go, because eventually the file copying just stopped, and I had to unplug the Zen Xtra from the PC to abandon the copy process. Since then, neither Zen device has been properly recognised by any of my PCs. When I plug the Zen Xtra into?a USB port, Windows brings up the messages: "Found new hardware: Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra" and "Found new hardware: MTP device", then brings up the Found New Hardware Wizard, even though firmware 2.0.03 is supposed to provide "seamless support with any computer running Microsoft? Windows Media? Player 0 and Windows? XP - no drivers or software needed" (I have WMP0.00.00.4036 installed). The Zen Xtra's display does not show the "docked" icon except when plugged into my laptop (running XP Home Edition)... but even on the laptop Windows still asks for a driver, which it then fails to install properly. When I plug my Zen Touch into my PC, it detects that an MTP device has been connected, but Windows Media Player doesn't list it under the Sync tab, and when I try to install the "Creative Software Suite for PlaysForSure-enabled Creative Zen Touch Players", the installer complains that "Setup could not detect any portable device on your system... please ensure that Zen Touch PlaysForSure Firmware is properly installed". The device's firmware version is 2..0, and as I have already said, both this and the Zen Xtra were working fine with my PC up until a couple of days ago. Additionally, the "docked" icon?no longer appears?on the Zen Touch's display when plugged into the PC. I have made the registry change suggested in Creative Knowledge Base Solution ID #9287, and my PC is up-to-date with Windows Hotfixes. I've also tried uninstalling all Creative programs and reinstalling them one at a time, but I can not get my PC to correctly work with the Zen devices anymore. Any suggestions? Also, is there some kind of Factory Reset that I can do to get my Zen Xtra back to an earlier firmware?

I had the same issue. My battery ran down during a sync, then I was unable to sync again.
The Zen is showing up fine in the device manager, but none of the software (Media Player, MediaSource) sees it.
Finally, after a day of trying new drivers, running cleanup, etc. I decided to go into the Zen's recovery menu. To get there, press and hold the Play button and press and hold the reset (use a paperclip) button while powering up.
Once there, select the first option in the menu to Clean up the system. I forgot what it's called and I'm in the middle of a sync now, so can't look.
    Worked fine after that. Phew!
If your device is being detected fine, but cannot sync, try that and post here if it fixes it.

In theory Creative have a battery replacement service, so check with support.

  • Nomad Zen Jukebox dead battery - where to get fixed in Phoen

I have had a Nomad Zen Jukebox for several years. Sadly, after I got another player, I let this one sit for several months and now the Li-ion battery is dead. It's one of those 3.6 v batteries soldered onto the mainboard.
I li've in Phoenix. Anyone know where I can get the battery replaced locally? How about mail-in service?
    Thanks for any assistance.

You should be aware that there are signifficant changes with upgrading ( or more apropiatly) changing your firmware version from one starting with a point somehting to a two point somehting firmware, and i would only advise you do it if you realy need to ( ie you need it to work on a windows Vista P.C)
there is a .30.somehting firmware for that player somewhere ( i think) that shouldnt be such a huge change.
goign to a 2.something firmware will:
make the Zen Xtra an MTP device that you can drag n drop stuff to, and it will also help intergrate it with other programmes such as widnows media player on p.cs that dont have the drivers ( i think)?
during the update process ( if it doesnt brick your Zen) everything on you hard dik will be completly wiped, all mucis, playlists and anny other files that you have stored on your player.
?As? with all firmware updates you should make sure that the battery is fully charged and the player is conected to the mains charger.
Updating toa ver2.something firmware is only possible on a windopws XP machine, and that XP P.C must be checked to make sure its is free from windows media player and windows media player runtim, you need to go to the control panel and select remove? on WMP then roll it back to windows media player 0, re-boot your XP p.c, then go back to add/remove programmes, remove Windows media player runtime ( roll back to windows media player ) re-boot your p.c then with a bit of luck the firmware will uipdate to the latest version.
In my opinion unless you realy want the Zen to act as an MTP device, and work on windows vista, theres not much to differentiate between the last ver firmware and the last ver2 firmware, read t6he link below ( if it still woks) and you should get an idea of the hassle i had when trying, then failing ( and eventualy suceeding) in updating the firmware on my Zen Xtra.

  • MP3Pro vs. Regular MP3 for a Nomad Zen Xt

I have a Nomad Zen Xtra and I use Musicmatch Jukebox to rip my CDs. Does anyone have any experience with this combination of hardware and software, and if so, would you recommend that I rip CDs in MP3Pro format at the highest quality (96) vs. ripping in straight MP3 format at 60 or so? Thanks.

MP3Pro works by layering two pieces of data, or something like this (Google will turn up the exact details). It uses a standard 64kbit/s section, and then the additional higher quality data on top of this. So an MP3Pro file will play on something that doesn't support it as a 64kbit/s MP3. So it doesn't play <EM>perfectly</EM>, but it will play some of the data.
Ironically the person who posted about this before in another thread failed to realise it was playing just a 64kbit/s MP3 (they thought it was the full MP3Pro file) so I'm not too sure I would trust their ability to judge sound quality Message Edited by SSR on 05-08-2005 06:56 PM

Thank you so much for your answer.
I like the old Nomad Zen especially? the sound is fantastic compared with the mass brand I pod.
The cheap plasic haptik or marketing manipulation (WE apple user are a family) is a betray to us IMHO.

  • Nomad Zen Xtra prob

Well, I just emailed support again but overlooked the (faster?) forums until now. Maybe someone can help me out... ------- EMAIL SENT -------- Hi, I emailed the customer support a while ago and got a generic reply as how to reset my mp3 player's OS. *This is not a software problem, it is a hardware problem... I want to send my Nomad Zen Xtra in to Creative to get it fixed and I will pay for the repairs.* Here is an original copy of the message: Hello, about a year ago I purchased my Creative Nomad Zen Xtra. Only a couple months into using it, I dropped the MP3 player on the headphone jack where my headphones were plugged in and the sound stopped working correctly. I think maybe that the soldering that is keeping the headphone jack on the circuit board is messed up or disconnected. Some sound does come out of one earphone when I wiggle the plug around a bit. How much do you think this would cost me? The player is no longer under its one year warranty, either. Thanks in advance. - Steve ----- Originally answered by Technical Support, Creative Labs Americas ----- Thanks, Steve-oMessage Edited by Jeremy-CL on 0-2-2005 0:08 AM

<EM>I?ve posted it before, but here we go again</EM>:
Two or three months after buying my 40GB zen xtra, the same thing happened to me. I deduced it was a battery problem and prepared myself to expand U$29 on a new one (I li've in Rio and it would be impossible for me to send it back for warranty). While I was looking for the new battery, I kept using it in my job and at home, with the power cord hooked up. I did it some times and one day, without any apearent reason, it started to charge the battery and ever since it never happened again. I friend of mine mentioned that these Li-Ion batteries can have this kind of problem. By that time, he suggested some charging manouveres to recover it but it was no needed. What I suggest you is to keep trying to charge it. You may be as lucky as me!

I also checked out the site he/she suggested about installing this FirmWare and that site says "Back up all audio, video, image or data files stored in the player to a secure location before changing the firmware. • Problems downloading between Nomad Zen Xtra 40GB and PC (XP S

    Help please
I've a new Zen Xtra and have installed all the software that came with it and then reinstalled as per the instructions given in another post.
I can see no sign of the drivers under the device driver although, not always, the PC pops up a message saying 'do i want to organise'. I can see my Nomad files in Nomad Explorer and Windows Explorer. i can even, sometimes, after each software reinstallation, even transfer a few, about 0 to 20, files before i get an error message telling me thw player is busy or disconnected. I have left the connection in place overnight but still no celarance.
Any ideas as I really feel like throwing the bloody thing out the window!

    Guys
Thanks for your responses. Sorry I haven't got back - been away a few days.
    Situation is this.
new Nomad Zen Extra and Dell 3000 running XP SP2 52mb ram 40gb dri've.
Loaded software with Nomad and unable to sync or transfer. PC could 'see' nomad and read preloaded files but when any form of transfer tried I either got 'device not connected' or, occasionally, a few files would transfer before 'hanging'. Erroe message stated'device busy or not connected'.
Since then I have followed these instructions given in another reply on this forum to the letter.
<SPAN>Here is a step by step of what I would do to try to get back to square one and get MediaSource and the Driver installed.
    <SPAN>
<SPAN>) Disable any antivirus and background programs on your system and disconnect the Jukebox from USB
<SPAN>2) Go to control panel/add remove programs and remove both Mediasource and the Jukebox Driver
    <SPAN>3) Reboot
<SPAN>4) Ensure AV and BG programs are still disabled
<SPAN>5) Search for any updated Chipset drivers for your motherboard (if you need help with this tell me your computer Mft. or your motherboard mft. and I will find out what you will need) and install them.
    <SPAN>6) Reboot
    <SPAN>7) Repeat step 5
<SPAN>8) Go to www.nomadworld.com and go to downloads/drivers and applications. Select the Jukebox Zen USB 2.0 and your version of Windows. Click get files. Download four files:
    <SPAN>Jukebox Driver version .26.02<SPAN></LI>
<SPAN>Creative MediaSource Software Update version 2.03.29<SPAN></LI>
    <SPAN>NOMAD JukeBox Type 2 Version .0.03 (English) Web Release<SPAN></LI>
    <SPAN>Creative NOMAD Explorer (Version 3.0.0)<SPAN></LI>
<SPAN>9) While these are downloading, go into rescue mode on the player and run a cleanup. A reload OS will hopefully not be needed.
<SPAN>0) Install the files in the above order. You will plug the Jukebox Zen in at the end of the driver install to complete the install. Leave it connected all the way through the remaining ste
    ps.
Disconnect after the last file is installed.
<SPAN>0) Reboot, reconnect the player and test.
    <SPAN>Jeremy"
<SPAN>So I think of all the up-to-date firmware etc...
<SPAN>I've also loaded and installed WMP 0 - which can also see the Nomad and has transferred a few files before hanging as above...
<SPAN>I can also see the driver in my device drivers under usb controllers. the driver listed is Creative Labs .26.2.0
<SPAN>I have managed to transfer my tracks (3500+) to the Nomad by burning as MP3 cd's and loading through my works laptop (Win2000). I used the Creative Media Source on the original software which came with the Nomad to do this. This is not a great solution as my company aren't thrilled about such use of their lappies and it only has a 0gb hd and, therefore, doesn't / can't hold my music library.
<SPAN>I really want to get it working properly on my main PC so I can get the max from the Nomad.
    <SPAN>Any ideas?
<SPAN>Sorry this is a bit long...

  • NOMAD ZEN JUKEBOX USB 2.0 REFUSES TO CONNECT..PLEASE HE

hi i have a nomad zen jukebox usb 2.0 and everytime i connect it to any of my USB ports, i've tried connecting it to all 8 of em, it gives me a message on the taskbar that says "One of the USB devices attatched to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it"
I've tried everything from installing the latest drivers, to uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the drivers, i've pretty much exhausted everything i can think of, i lost the original CD that came with it so i've been installing the drivers by first downloading them off the nomadworld website, i've even updated my motherboard drivers, but nothing has seemed to work! if anyone could please offer me some advice on what to do, i would really appreciate it.

You can try editing the registry but be sure to do a backup of the registry first in case something went wrong.
. Go to Start-Run and type in 'regedit' to start the registry editor application.
    2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\U SB.
    3. Open up all those with Vid********. You should be able to see the device description name. Delete all those listings that are listed as unknown or contain Creative related device name.
    4. Exit registry editor and try using the installation CD again.

  • Cannot completely uninstall Nomad Zen Xtra softw

I needed to uninstall the software that came with the nomad zen xtra 40GiG player. So i first uninstalled the software and then the drivers, however in my computer it still displayed the adapter to the player as a dri've. Now mind me I wouldnt care much but now whenever I plug in any usb device my computer cannot detect it because the current slot is taken.
So I installed advance uninstalled pro 2004 and looked arround yet there was no trace of the driver, software or anything even related to creative. So I did the next step, I used Registery Mechanic and found some broken registrys which I promptley deleted, but now on loadup I still have that dri've, the only diffrence is the nomad icon does not appear there anymore, its replaced by the default icon that any file recieves when it cannot be linked to a software.
    How can I remove it's

    Thank you for your time

Use Driver Cleaner Pro http://www.drivercleaner.net/ free ware that cleans out drivers,.sys.ini,inf and registry settings.
It cleans completely and does not dump to the recycle bin so use caution,I use JV6 which I find not only better at cleaning but much safer than System Mechanic(in fi've years of use It has never hosed my system) you can find the last free version(full function-no time limit) @ http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=jv6 or the new pay version @ http://www.jv6.org/
Many functions to clean, including full scan and search by software(I would try this method)
If you have a Creative Sound card SB Li've or Audigy they include a driver clean up utility CTZAPXX.exe look for it in the C:\Program Files|Creative\Program folder or on your Install disc,it may be available here on Creative Support site or a google search will return many hits.
If you can't find it P.M. me and i will e-mail or post it up on a web site for you.
<B><I>Just one more caution on working in your registry, always a good idea to back up the registry or set a "restore point" prior to altering the registry,if your not comfortable doing these things stop and ask some one for assistance</I></B>
Good luck and report back any success

  • Nomad Zen Touch & Windows Vi

Since I installed Windows Vista some odd weeks ago, my nomad zen touch has never acted normally when docked. I typically can't even load up more than a couple songs before everything freezes up. When I dock it, Windows appears to be trying to launch Windows Media Player, which itself crashes. I've tried using the Creative Media Center as well as Nomad Explorer and have no luck. I've tried reinstalling the firmware(version .0.03) as well as the drivers and to no avail.
Is there anything I can do to get my zen touch to work with Windows Vista? It'd be a **bleep** shame if I have to throw it away and go out and buy an Ipod now.

From what I've heard, doesn't that wipe your player clean of all files? I have probably 3,000 songs on mine, I'd hate to have reinstall them all again.
Is that your only choice for getting Vista compatibility? Also, when you say it has nati've compatibility with Vista, what about playlist? Because only the creative media center seems to let you create and edit playlist from my experience. Playlists are key for me.

  • Nomad ZEN NX 3

I want to know if this is a good deal: Nomad Zen NX 30gb comes with USB Cable only for $96.
Is it possible to buy the installation CD or Down Load the driver from the website?
Will any Uni'versal AC Adapter work or does it have to be a Creative Nomad Zen Adapter?

It's not a bad deal, considering it's an older model and its equivalent 30GB Zen Xtra still goes for around $90 brand new.
You can download all of the necessary files from http://nomadworld.com/downloads/drivers/
It must be a 5V dc, .5A adapter; I'd just buy the one from Creative to be safe (check froogle for a better deal than the creative store)
