Nomad Zen Extra for Apple iMac Intel Dual C

I've looked in the FAQ, tried the download section of support, and cannot find any software for my Nomad Zen Extra to run on a new Apple iMac Intel Dual Core. The new machine uses OS X 0.4, and there seems to be nothing at all.
I also tried loading the software from the disk, and it didn't work (no surprise there since it's all Windows software).
Can anyone offer any suggestions, or do I have to go buy an Apple iPod?
Thanks for your help.

Why wasn't I warned about this when I purchased the device? There's nothing on the packaging or inserts to point out that the device WILL NOT WORK if one switches to an Apple iMac.
The company's website is equally obscure.
I certainly expected to need new software for the iMac, but not that my Nomad was now a door-stop and wouldn't work.
How do I get my money back from Creative, given that the Good Guys store has been absorbed into Circuit City.
I appreciate your help.

Can any one recommend a basic color printer for my IMac Intel OS X 10.4.11?

Try downloading the software from here after deleting what you've already installed from /Library/Printers/hp:

You could also use the AirPrint driver:

  • Nomad Zen Extra Just Won't W

I'm now trying to install/load with tracks/use my second Nomad Zen Extra, after tech support told me to return the first one. Same problem. I cannot load tracks onto the device, Windows ME continues not to recognize/install the device, and I'm stumped. Device manager recognizes the unit, but then when I try to install a driver and goes through the lists on the provided CD, Windows response is that it cannot find the driver.
I went to Creative's website and found, then downloaded, a "new" driver (2003), so I presume it is on the Creative CD which came with the unit.
    What am I doing wrong?
For now, the unit is useless.
    Thanks for your help.
    Dave

I tried another USB port, and now Device Manager says the Nomad is there. But, when I go to the Creative Source Manager program, "My Computer" in the right panel still does not show the Unit present. For whatever reason, Windows is not showing the unit in the list of dri'ves and folders.
Now, all of a sudden, when I'm in Device Manager, the Nomad has disappeared and is no longer there. Now it's back again. I presume this is caused by the auto-off battery save feature of the unit.
Is the unit installed to "My Computer" or to the Desktop? How can I tell? Why can't the right panel show "Desktop" but only "my computer?"
    Thanks for your help.

what is the best time to set for my iMac intel to get to sleep? the default is 10 minutes, i am changing it to 1 houirs but i put the sleep time for my monitod 10 minutes. is it decent?

    within 3 years anyway.
Not so sure of that "just plain logic." Allowing  sleep too often will cause wear on the drive -- excessive spin up and spin down. Temperature permitting, a drive will last longer if just left running.
For other hardware, a lot will have to do with the internal temps. When it's quite hot here, I allow the computer to sleep more often. But otherwise, it's a bit of this and a bit of that. I wouldn't personally recommend running 24/7, although I know of several here who claim they do, with no apparent adverse effects over many years.

  • Second Life Audio Problems on iMac Intel Dual core

Hello, I just set up my new iMac, and wanted to use Second Life. However, no matter what I do, I get no audio while in the game. I have set the preferences in the game to stream audio and video, but no luck.
Second Life works fine on my G4 Powerbook, and (ahem)Dell PC, but my honking, brand new super duper iMac--no sound!!!
Second Life told me to delete SL and reinstall which I did with no luck.
Preferences for the iMac are set for internal audio input and output, and I can hear iTunes and DVDs, but no sound in Second Life.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this puzzle for me.

"Second Life works fine on my G4 Powerbook, and (ahem)Dell PC"
If that game's not yet optimized for your iMac Intel, play it in Boot Camp instead. Will work better than it does on your Hel.

  • What is the best external harddrive for my iMac (Intel)

Out of storage internal hd storage space, would like to run iTunes from an external hd......any recommendations on the best hd for an iMac (Intel)?

Before you do this, consider backing up requires that you keep at least two copies of your data at all times.  I would consider increasing the capacity of your internal before adding an external hard drive to add to capacity.   See my backup and disk full FAQs*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html
If after reading these you still desire to map to an external drive, you can, and I would recommend drives by http://www.macsales.com/
    They do ship to England.
But remember that means double backing up at separate times for the external drive, and that the external drive may not always be able to daisy chain with a backup drive on the same bus.   That with an iMac frequently might mean having one USB, and one Firewire drive, or using a Time Capsule to backup both internal and external to.

  • HT3964 I did the SMC reset for my iMac intel-based and now it won't turn on. What can I do to fix this?

I did the SMC reset for my iMac intel-based and now it won't turn on. What can I do to fix this?

Well, first things first... is the power cord fully plugged into the back of the iMac (and the wall, for that matter)?
Make sure the wall outlet has power, too... I've scratched my head over stupid issues where I forgot to flip a wall switch.
If the outlet does have power, then try doing a pram zap. Command + option + P + R (hold those at startup).
If the machine is receiving power, you should be able to see some LEDs if you look through the bottom grate of the machine to the left of the RAM door.

  • Does Apple sell memory for Apple iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (21.5-inch - DDR3) Late 2009 anymore?

I have a 21.5-inch, late 2009 iMac (Apple iMac 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo [21.5-inch - DDR3]) and I need more memory for it. Currently, I have the standard 4GB memory for it (2X2). I wanted to know if Apple makes memory for my model iMac anymore. Thanks!

Buy your ram from either Crucial http://www.crucial.com or OWC http://eshop.macsales.com.
Apple probably still sells ram for your iMac but you'll pay twice the prince and get less for it.

  • Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's meant for an imac intel chip (Jan 2007)??

Can I install Mac OS 10.4.7 CD's that came from an imac intel chip (Jan 2007) ONTO an ibook power pc G3? The ibook only has a CD drive and I believe the OS installs are CD's not DVD's as there are 2 of them. The ibook currently is running OS 10.3.9 with 23 GB on the HD at the moment. I may be able to free up some space though by dumping Microsoft Office. I know for sure I had 10.4.7 on there before but I got a used HD and there is only 10.3.9 on it. Sigh.

Nope, sorry wont work, those are Machine & Architecture specific Install Discs.

  • Bootable clones for both iMac (Intel) and G5 (PPC) on same external drive??

Is it possible to format and partition one external firewire drive to accept a bootable clone of my iMac (Intel) on one partition and my G5 (PPC) on the other? I seem to remember that in order to be able to boot, the Intel and the PPC require something different in formatting on the drive.
If this is not possible, could I as a second choice format/partition an external firewire drive to place a bootable clone of the G5 on one partition and a Time Machine backup of the iMac on the other? I am looking for a way to store just one rather than two drives in my safety deposit box. Thanks

I put up instructions and a picture showing how to select the partition scheme:
    http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leobugs.html
Scroll down to about the middle of the page.
Frankly I was surprised to find out you can boot an Intel machine from a drive that is APM rather than GUID. I'm not sure that what you want to do is going to be as easy as one would hope. Anyway, the instructions I found for dual booting off a firewire drive sounded a bit complex!

  • Upgrading RAM for an iMAC  Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).

I have an iMAC Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).  I am trying to upgrade the RAM of my iMAC and I am not sure how to go about it. Running on OSx 10.6.3
This iMac has 4 slots - Currently my RAM is using 2 slots with 4 GB so I have 8 GB right now.
The speed is 1333MHz. Now I have some RAM that could get to 32GB but the 4 RAM chips speed is
    1866 MHz.
Would it be possible to swap my old RAM (8GB) 1333MHz for the new 1866mhz RAM? even with the difference in speed?  The RAM is from Crucial.
If possible I can try and swap the RAM if I get inside my iMAC.

If you are really running 10.6.3, then you do not have a 2012 machine. Please check to see if this is yours (it's a 2010):
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i5-2.8-27-inch-alumin um-mid-2010-specs.html
It also mentions the exact specs of the RAM. I would only use the RAM supported by Apple; using the higher speed rated RAM will not result in higher speed.

  • Virus protection for an imac intel

Are imac intel's secure from viruses? If not what is the Virus protection software I should buy?

Get Intego Virus Barrier X4 !!!!!!!!!!
Forget symantec, I had trouble with Norton Antivirus, For a few months it was fine than all of the Sudden it wouldn't update, even if I took it off the computer and reinstalled it.. I called them and I was transfered to over 8 different technitions and not one of them could help me. I kept getting error messages and i even tried software update trouble shooters from their website, and nothing, just more wasted space..
NORTON TAKES FOREVER TO SCAN THE COMPUTER FOR VIRUSES
The same issues happened to my iBook as well a few day later.
I made my transition to INTEGO VIRUS BARRIER X4. THE ARE NUMBER ONE IN PROTECTING YOUR MAC FROM VIRUSES. IT IS SO USER FREINDLY AND IT INTEGRATES VERY WELL WITH THE SYSTEM.
INTEGOS VIRUS BARRIER X4 HAS A FEATURE CALLED TURBO MODE, AND IT CAN SCAN AN ENTIRE HARD DISK IN MINUTES. The software doesn't hog memory, scan seeminglessly in the back round.
IT HAS A COOL INTERFACE, AND SIMPLY TO USE, EVEN MACWORLD MAGAZINE RATES THEM NUMBER ONE.
All the other antivirus's all come from compaies that made software for windows, they only make software form mac because the Mac population is growing. These guys are Mac only software, so they do their homework making sure it's the best.
It's not cheap, but do research and you can find the program for $47 in some websites, sometimes lower or highier. I first got it from amazon since they are more reliable to buy from.
I was amazed by the performance and got one for my laptop a few weeks later.

  • Nomad Zen extra jukebox Firmware upgrade for Naps

I am sure that this has been posted before however, I am very keen to find out when this upgrade is available for my 30G jokebox?
    Cheers!
    Steve

This is the long-awaited Zen Xtra firmware upgrade; all current discussion about it is in the sticky at the top of this forum. (Per their policy, the moderators will eventually lock this thread in favor of the sticky.)
SSR, the top poster on this board (and an expert on Creative players), has an email list on his own website for new Creative player downloads: http://www.stainlesssteelrat.net/njb.htm . Though it's not specific to any one player, you can be sure the Zen Xtra firmware upgrade for MTP/Janus (the technology behind Napster To Go) will be announced there when it's available. (And it works, too: I just got word of the new Audible firmware for my Zen Micro thru that list.)Message Edited by RBBrittain on 09-8-2005 04:07 PM

  • Best external floppy drive for an iMac Intel?

I have some ancient ClarisWorks 2.0 files I'm looking to resurrect some day. Peggy here has steered me to a software program that my iMac can use to open them, but I need some guidance as to a good working USB floppy drive. Thanks!

USB floppy drives were never terribly reliable on Mac OS X, and I'm not sure if any will work on an Intel-based Mac. But my limited experience was that any USB floppy drive was as good as any other, and probably has as good a chance at working as any other drive. Tiger Direct still lists some, and you may find other dealers as well. It may be more cost effective, though, if you can find a helpful dealer or fellow user (perhaps through a Mac user group) that would have a Mac with a floppy and a USB port you could use, and use a USB flash drive to transfer those old files to your new Mac.
Note if you elect to get a USB floppy that none of the drives ever have recognized the old 400k and 800k Apple floppy formats; your disks must be 1.4MB.
    Hope this helps. Good luck.
