Nominal/Original battery charge capacity of genuine batteries for 13'' macbook (mid 2007)

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to ask which is the nominal battery charge of a genuine (from Apple) battery for a 13'' macbook (mid 2007). I have just bought a new one, and it has a nominal capacity of about 5500 mAh. I just would like to check if it is in good condition.
When my old battery stopped functioning I checked some information in the web and arrived to the followings conclusions:
Webpages:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batterie s
http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Conclusions:
- Lithium-based batteries have no memory charge effect. This means, that you don't need to be careful about charging-discharging the battery to 100% and 0% sometimes every 3 months. It also means that you can keep the battery in good health conditions not charging-discharging it at all.
- When you are not going to use your notebook for some months it is best to keep the battery at 40-50%charge (it radically increases your battery lifetime).
- It is also good to keep your battery at "low temperature" when not using it. It seems that 0-20ºC is ok. For example 40ºC is really bad for your battery.
If anyone has any comment about my "conclusions", it will be useful form me .
Thanks for the information in advance,
Jesus

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775 (telephone numbers for other countries - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57). Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac.  They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee.  These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.
You may want to just upgrade to a newer system version. Snow Leopard 10.6 would be a good one for that computer but you would need to make sure it has enough RAM to run it.  It would only cost $29 to get Snow Leopard from Apple and for the next 30-45 days until the next OS release in July it is still relatively up-to-date.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

  • Satellite Pro L50 - poor battery charge capacity

Satellite Pro L50, I had a warning box appear from the Toshiba PC Health Monitor which said
"Your battery charge capacity is relatively poor.
After a period of time, the battery will lose its ability to perform at max capacity & may need to be replaced. This is normal for all batteries. For more info about the 'poor' charge status click the help button."
Clicking the help button indicated the battery condition at about a third charge capability.
Is this an indication that I need a new battery?
The laptop is only 4 months old & I have some concerns. Comments appreciated

    Laptop PSKJPA-00E00U Satellite Pro L50-A O/S Win7 Pro SP1 32b purchased 22/10/2013.
    1. 10/7/2014 Toshiba PC Health Monitor indicated "Battery Charge Capacity Poor - Battery will loose its ability to perform at max capacity & may need to be replaced". Battery (PA5107U-1BRS) was replaced by Toshiba as the battery is enclosed within the laptop case.
    2. Currently there is a red cross on the battery charge notification icon which indicates "consider changing your battery".
This indicator is a Windows battery health warning which I have now disabled. The Toshiba PC Health Monitor indicates that the battery is good & everything is OK.
PC works fine & battery charge usually lasts about 2 hours.
Is the battery on the way out?
Do I need to contact Toshiba again as the batteries seem to last less than one year & are difficult to replace being inside the case.
I would appreciate any advice as I am unsure where to go from here.

  • 1% battery charge capacity at 146 cycles

Problem started around december 2010 with macbook turning off at random percentages, generally between 70%-90%, after putting up with it a while, i took my macbook to the genius bar where he told me he couldn't see anything particularly wrong with it as far, however I should try re-calibrating. After going home and doing this, my battery info went down to about 1% charge capacity, a shocking 60 or so mAh. That's when I found this post - http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13165866
Basically the battery update 1.3 was made for macbook pro 15" and not macbook 13"
    see - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1403
I looked and found my computer did indeed have battery update 1.3, and so, following the articles advice I deleted.. rebooted and yes my battery capacity went up to 80% not amazing, but reasonable. The battery was running through cycles fine, fully charging and running all the way down without turning off randomly for a couple weeks until... it started turning off again.
Now I've noticed the charge capacity is back to 68mAh, I've tried installing all the battery updates available, however none will install as computer says they aren't needed.
Anyone else having the same problems return? I don't know if they have anything to do with a system update which I installed a couple days ago.
macbook is well out of warranty having had it for 28 months now (bought late 2008) however 146 cycles is a bit low to warrant such a low capacity, and the fact that deleting that file fixed the problem even temporarily leads me to believe the problem isn't completely with the battery.

It really sounds like you just need a new battery. With your machine being 28 months old and having only 146 cycles on the battery, this would mean that you're going through a cycle about every two months. The cycle count accounts for only part of a battery's longevity. It's important to use the battery regularly to keep it healthy. Going through a cycle a week or so is generally reasonable usage to keep the battery healthy... even a cycle every two weeks is okay. You just need to use the battery to keep it in good shape. Going through roughly one cycle nearly every two months would seem to indicate that you ran the machine plugged in nearly all the time. That's not the best way to keep your battery healthy. Here are Apple's suggestions on maintaining your battery:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
Erratic readings are not uncommon for a failing battery. The fact that it seems to work okay at times does not mean it can't be failing.

  • What replacement battery do I need to get for my Macbook Pro?

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2006. I need a new battery and wasn't sure what would be a better way to get it-at a Mac store or on ebay for cheaper. On ebay they list different model numbers. Mine says Model #A1187 so does that mean I have to get the same model # for my next battery, or can I get any model # as long as it says it's for the 15" Macbook Pro. Also the newer Macbook's have longer lasting batteries, so if I got one of those would it work with my older Macbook?

    Hi again MissArtist32,
The "longer lasting" batteries for the newer "unibody" MBP 15" models will NOT work in your computer. They are a different size and shape apart from anything else, and the current ones aren't user replaceable in theory.
The batteries from all of the "non Unibody" MBP 15" models from 2006 to early 2008 are interchangeable.
As far as purchasing from Apple or other sources goes, I'd normally suggest going to an Apple dealer for this , too, but as your computer is getting on a bit you may find it worth checking out one of the more reputable Mac parts suppliers as well. This one , for example, is from a reputable manufacturer and sold by a reputable supplier .
    Cheers

  • Where can I find a new battery with no charge cycles and a full charge capacity of 1430 mAh for an iphone 4S?

There are horrible reviews on so many battery replacement sites (Amazon comes to mind) where people are buying so-called new replacement batteries and finding that they're had several hundred recharge cycles and won't hold a full design charge.  Can't I get a replacement battery from Apple, or has Apple chosen to abandon it's iPhone 4S customers?  If there's anything on the Apple web site where you can buy a replacement battery for the product, it's not obvious.

  • Battery Recharge and Turn on Failure for 13" Macbook

I have an old 13" Macbook laptop (all white, if it makes any difference) from 2008 that up until a couple of months ago worked great but then the battery started to not charge. I replaced the battery, same problem; I replaced the charging cords, same problem; so it must be something internal. I have thus replaced the computer but still wish for this to work so I can give it as a gift. Due to where I just moved to, the closest Apple Store is hours away so I was wondering if anyone knew what the most probable answer to the problem is and, if possible, a rough estimate as to how much it would probably cost

If a SMC reset fails to bring life to your MBP, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

  • Macbook mid-2007 -- original OS shipped? Trying to run AHT.

What was it? I'm thinking 10.3 Panther, as I later upgraded to 10.4 Tiger.
Reason for the question: I'm trying to upgrade to 10.6 Sow Leopard, but that OS won't install. Ran Repair Permissions, trying to run Apple Hardware tests but no longer have the original OS disks that came with the machine. Apparently I need these to run this test? Other suggestions welcome.

  • Battery Calibration and Charge Capacity?

I am currently using a PB G4 15" (high res DL SD) and I've had it for about a month. I just read about calibrating the battery and went ahead and did it. Have I done any damage to the battery or shortened it's effectiveness by waiting a month to calibrate rather than when it was first out of the box?
Also, i also just read about checking the battery charge capacity using the system profiler. My charge capacity prior to calibration was 2731 and after calibration it's 2930. However, it sounds like it should be in the 4400's based on the posts I've read. What do these numbers mean and do I have a faulty battery since it's so low?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kevin --
Yeah, I'm not loving those numbers you posted either. I'd try performing the calibration procedure once or twice more to make sure that that battery capacity number doesn't change.
The other thing I would do if I were you is download Coconutbattery: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27425
It's a free app available at versiontracker and it will tell you your battery's original capacity as well as it's current capacity.
I agree with you that a capacity of 2930 mAh after only a month of use and 16 cycles suggests that your battery is defective and should be replaced at no cost to you under the terms of the warranty.
For a frame of reference, after 10 months of use and 166 load cycles, my battery's original capacity of 4400 mAh is now 4228 mAh. No way yours should be in the 2930 mAh range.
When you call AppleCare to arrange for a replacement, if in fact that's what you end up needing to do, the agent you speak with, in addition to making sure that you've properly calibrated your battery a few times (as mentioned earlier) may also ask that you reset your PB's Power Management Unit (PMU). While I'm skeptical that a PMU reset will alter the outcome, you can find instructions on how to reset the PMU here (just in case you need to): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Good luck and please post back how everything turns out.
    -- JDee
PS. You probably know this, but the calibration procedure has been changed slightly for your DL hi-res version of the PB. Here it is below, just to make sure:
    PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)
The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps to calibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip: When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleep mode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", to maintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is truly exhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safe sleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep state using the safe sleep image on the hard drive.
