Non-booting Macbook, need help.

I came home and had to restart my Macbook. I did so, and it makes the startup sound but doesn't boot past a white screen. Is my computer fried?! Please tell me what I can do I have law school finals in a month!!

First off try a Safeboot into Safemode:
1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window.
If you are sucessful in booting into Safemode, then reboot normally.
If that does not help then try resetting then SMC:
1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer's battery.
3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.

Im not at all familiar with java so this is really weird for me to work out. I?ve been doing it all day (and half of yesterday).
Im trying to write a custom clodFusion tag in java that gets the width, height, size and MIME types of a given file. I?ve been trying to get it to work on the command line first. I can get the width and height but cant get the size and the MIME type.

IPhone 5 restore boot loop, need help!?

okay so here is the deal.
I am travelling at the moment so my iphone is VERY important, yesterday i attempted to update my phone from 6.0.1 to 6.0.2. i plugged in my iphone 5 to my macbook pro and let it download and update.
sadly it failed and now my iphone 5 is stuck in a recovery loop! as i am currently in the moutains there is no phone repair shops around that i can take it too so i need to figure out how to get it out of this recovery loop!
currently all i have is the connect to itunes logo on my phone.
i have tried connecting it and restoring the settings but it fails and i get error code (-1), (1600) or (11) normally it is (-1)
i tried removing the sim card and reinstalling the software but no luck.
ive been googling this for the past 5 hours and have got nowhere!
ive attempted programs like tinyumbrella and Recboot but neither works.
i am really stuck and need help ASAP!!

T60 wont boot ~ I NEED HELP ~

H'ok.. So I was going to try to fix my friends T60 but I'm worried this is kinda over my head..
She came to me and said the OS was currupt and asked me to install a new os onto her laptop..
I was only able to install anything when the built in Wireless card was disabled..
Whenever you enable the wireless card, windows wont boot (all versions) nor will Windows installer boot..
Linux will boot though with the wireless card enabled.. but wont see a wireless network.
I've checked the hard drive and the ram.. both are ok.
I tried swapping the wireless card, but that didn't fix the problem..
Could it be the motherboard?
I need help! PLEASE WILL SOMEONE HELP!

Could you try doing a system update using an ethernet cable? What OS are you using?

OLD MacBook - need help! Clueless

I have an old MacBook - I believe it is a 2008. It still works great, except I believe I need to upgrade my operating system. All of the websites I keep going on are telling me that they don't support the browser I'm using (Safari 5.0?). When I try to update the browser, it says my operating system needs to be upgraded... and I cannot figure out how to do that. I tried to install Google Chrome after that and it said it was not compatible with this version of MAC OS X.
I don't need Google Chrome necessarily, just want to be able to update the operating system and browser on this MacBook. Help!
Current Info: Mac OS X version 10.5.8.
I've gone under "Software Update" on the apple menu and it says there are no updates at this time... clearly there are! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to avoid a trip to the Apple store. Thank you so much!

Your MacBook (2008?) can run Snow Leopard 10.6 and 10.7 for sure. The last version in that year will run 10.8.

Macbook Pro Boot Problems NEED HELP!

Hello I have a macbook pro that was dual booted with a verision of ubuntu called Jolicloud and Mac OS x yesterday when I deleted the Jolicloud partition from my harddrive the grub bootloaded took over and now will not let me access my mac files. upon scanning the disk with testdisk on parted magic I can see that the mac partition is still there I just do not now how to access it. I could really use some help because I don't want to lose all of my photography that is on my harddisk

That sounds like a distinct possibility.

Non-booting MacBook Pro, ?? on startup screen, more....

I swapped out a hard drive on my MacBook Pro (unibody, 2.26, 4GB RAM) and was going to wipe the drive and reinstall OS 10.5. I selected the Install Disk from 'startup disk' in system preferences and restarted. I heard 2 closely-spaced chimes, then nothing. I tried booting with the option key pressed and a padlock appeared on the screen with a elongated button and an arrow. I tried entering my password and nothing happened. Okay. Reboot and eject the install disk. A long wait, the folder with the question mark appears. Okay. Reboot and tried to reset PRAM via the 'vulcan grip.' Nothing. No chimes, no restarts, no nothing. Okay. Try Target Disk mode. Nothing. Return original HD. Same results. Help!!!!!?????

Non-booting MacBook Pro

I'm trying to figure out some issues with a friend's MacBook Pro (2008/Lion). There's something going on with the hard drive and it won't boot normally. It hangs on the grey screen with spinning gear. I've booted into the Recovery partition and run First Aid and tried single user mode running fsck -fy. Both say the drive is OK, but it still won't boot. I can boot into safe mode but once the progress bar disappears I get the same spinning gear. Now I'm trying to access it via Firewire Target mode. The machine goes in the mode and shows in my MacPro Finder but as soon as I try to access files or use Disk Warrior, the drive apparently stops or seizes and I get a spinning beachball and can't access the drive.
Is there anything else I can try? Why does it mount as a FW drive, but can't be accessed?

Getting A Macbook, Need Help Transfering Files

Ok I'm getting a MacBook for X-Mas (that is if Santa comes through :)) and I want to know the best way to transfer some of my files on my pc to my new MacBook.
Specificly I'd like to transfer some of the videos in my iTunes library over to my new MB. Are there tutorials here that show you how to do this? I know that I can have the people at my local Apple store do this but I'd like to do it myself, mainly so I can familiarize myself with my new MB.
If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate the help.

How to get kernel on a non booting MacBook pro? recently ran out of enough memory on start up disk. will boot to internet restore or from ox dvd. has anyone every had this problem? I can't even get in free up space.

How to get to kernel on a MacBook pro with booting issues. Internet restore has not bee successful. It will not boot from 10.5 install disc cause I recently upgraded to lastest ox.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

Dropping wifi on MacBooks-need help please

I'm sorry, I'm new to Macs and I need some help. I've done a bunch of searching and am just not finding a solution - maybe there isn't one.
We have two MacBooks in our home, and four PCs.
Two weeks ago, both MacBooks started dropping the wifi connection. Airport will read full bars, but internet/mail don't work. The PCs are unaffected.
I have a linksys Wireless N router that we purchased, looks like this though I'm not at home at the moment and am unsure of the exact model number.

I've tried turning on and off airport, renewing my DHCP Lease (which I thought was working but after a few days the problem returned). Almost every time I turn on and off the airport and click on my network (secured) to join it makes me re-enter my WPA key, even though I've clicked to remember the password in my keychain. Sometimes the on/off works, but only for 10 or 20 minutes and then I have problems again. Some days I have no issues and other days are really bad and I can't get on the internet all night on the MacBooks.
I also tried going into my router settings and changing the channel and that seemed to screw up ALL the computers, even the PCs, so I had to put it back to auto configuration. I thought maybe that other networks in the area (I'm in a single family but for some reason I can see about 8 other networks in the neighborhood in my airport drop down) might be interfering.
I have read some threads that suggest 10.6.7 (which both MacBooks are currently running) might be the issue, and that you can revert back. I do not know how to do this. I have not backed up my system using time machine yet (got my MB at the end of March and don't have a new external harddrive to use time machine with - the one I have currently has all the backup from my PC on it and I don't want to delete it). Is there a way to revert the software back without having to re-install using the installation disks, therefor losing everything on the Mac? I mean, I don't even know if going back a version will fix it, or perhaps just suffering until Lion comes out?
Any suggestions?

So if i put in the installation disk all photos/music/files will remain on the computer? it doesn't revert my system back to factory default? one of the threads I was reading they were discussing backing up the system first so I thought I'd lose everything.
the wifi issues will happen even when our macs are sitting about 5 feet away from the router, even. And yet other times they'll work perfectly when we're on a different level in the house. When I say wifi drops, airport sees the network, sees full bars, there's an IP address in the network settings, but internet pages won't load and mail won't receive/send.
Also, when I click on my network to try to get it to re-connect, I get a screen like this person did:

where it says connection timeout, or invalid password (even though it is a valid password and eventually after many tries to connect will randomly work).

Question is once i do install it and i go to install games to i look at the winxp requirements or mac or doesnt it matter then since i can run in both environments?

B) Sorry, I don't watch films on my MacBook that often.
C) Don't know, but you will definitely drain a lot more battery if you play in Windows.

If you plan on gaming in Windows, I highly recommend using Boot Camp (built in to Mac OS X Leopard) rather than running Windows and Mac at the same time. Gaming in Parallels or VMware doesn't work very well. For windows games, look at the Windows XP requirements, and for Mac games, look at the Mac requirements.

Got stuck at boot. Need help.

Guys, I need your help.
I have created a Bootcamp partition and wanted to install windows. I guess the disk is corrupted so when the computer restarted I got stuck with a black window, the iMac will not boot from the DVD. The problem is that I cannot switch back to my Leopard partition and the DVD is stuck into the superdrive (I cannot eject it). If I restart the computer it eventually goes to the same black screen. What can I do? I have a Logitech keyboard so the "Option" button is not recognized at startup to switch to Leopard. Any idea?

Sick Macbook, need help

A friend asked me to take a look at her sick Macbook. She spilled a bit of water on the keyboard and it wouldn't boot up. She gave it to me a month ago and it just laid around till today when she finally found her power cord. Tonight I plugged it in and it did indeed boot. I connected to my wireless network and surfed the net. Then I left it on and went to dinner. After dinner I tried to surf some more but the computer was unresponsive (frozen). I turned it off and then turned it back on.
As it came on I heard that very brief organ sound, something like Ta Da! A grasy screen appeared, followed in about 45 seconds by an image of a file folder with a question mark (I'm not a Mac guy). Next the folder with question marked began blinking on and off and nothing further happens.
As a Windows user I'm feeling like the file folder with the question mark flashing on and off is the equivalent of the dreaded "No Hard Drive Found." Is that indeed what it is?
Can someone help? What in fact does the file folder with question mark flashing on and off tell me? Especially in light of the fact that the Macbook did boot an hour or so earlier. Is there anything I can do to explore this problem further and maybe fix it. Or do I really have to bring it in to a tech for diagnosis and repair?
Any help offered will be appreciated.

you guessed it... couldn't find a file system sufficient to mount and them boot from... see if your friend has her system disks... boot from the disk by inserting it and turning the system on... if no hard drive mounts it'll boot from the CD and you can then run Disk Utility.

Unmountable Boot Volume, need help. trying to fix the problem via lan if posible?

any information i could recieve from Geek Squad would be appreciated. i have my computer purchased from best buy that i'm happy with, but my cousin's computer died with the unmountable boot volume error. i want to use my computer to fix his, or if possible fix his directly from the internet. any assisstance in this would be nice. thank you.

I hope your cousin got the computer fixed. However,
this Unmountable Boot Volume error is not always fixed by simply reinstalling
the Operating System (OS). In fact, you may need to back up the drive using an
external USB Hard Drive Enclosure. Even
then the drive may not be readable if there are physical errors/damage, and
this is nearly impossible to do over the internet since they likely cannot boot
the computer? If there is important
information on the drive I would recommend taking it to a professional such as Geek
Squad® before attempting anything. Best
