Non-contract iPhone 4s

Hello. We will be purchasing iPhones in a few days when my wife and I move back to the USA from Japan.
Of course we want the iPhone 4s. Excuse me for my lack of knowledge about 'unlocked' iPhones as we've never had
an iPhone before-but this is what I want to know:
If we have the unlocked iPhone 4s-how do we 'pay as we go' for calls, messaging, data, Hotspot, network, et al?
I know that there are pre-paid cell phones and 'pay as you go' cell phones one can buy. However-how does this work
with a smartphone such as the iPhone 4s? I would just like to know all my options before settling on a 2-year contract commitment that
may or may not be the right fit for my family. Any helpful hints are appreciated!

Hi, I was looking into buying a non-contract Iphone 4s from Virgin Mobile through Best Buy... My question is:
Can I use a Credit Card (Not Best Buy's) to put down to pay monthly from that for the 18 month financing plan?
Not unless the card you use happens to have a similar payment plan. The 18 month deferred interest plan applies to Best Buy credit cards that used to be handled by HSBC but are now being serviced through Capital One.

A no-contract sales price does not mean unlocked.
Apple is now selling an officially unlocked iPhone in the U.S. which has nothing whatsoever to do with AT&T unlocking iPhones. It is up to the carrier and the carrier only to officially unlock an iPhone that was sold as carrier locked with the carrier - in this case sold as carrier locked with AT&T. This may change one day, but at the present time AT&T does not unlock an iPhone for any reason or under any circumstances.

  • Do you guys remember when non-contract iPhone 2G was released?

I have to wait for non-contract iPhone 3G.
There is no announcement, so I want to estimate based on old data.

Go to ATT and have them set it up for you. You can't do a pay as you go plan through iTunes.

  • Using a non-contract iPhone from the US in Europe

Hello! Could anyone tell me, whether it would be possible to use the iPhone 4 bought in an Apple Store in the United States, in a country like Slovakia/Czech Republic?
And the non-contract prices $599 for 16GB and $699 for 32GB are for the iPhone 4, or iPhone 3GS?
    Thank you!

    Jim,
I had a similar question since I am heading to France in a couple of weeks. My iPhone works fine in Canada on a roaming basis, even tho' the carrier there, Rogers, doesn't have an agreement with AT&T. So are you saying the iPhone will not work, period, in Europe, not even on a roaming basis?
I had the impression when I originally purchased it that it would work fine in Europe since it uses the GSM standard, as Europe does.

  • Hi, I purchased a non contract iphone 4 32gb whilst on holiday in america, how can I use it with my O2 microsim

Please can anyone advise how I can use my non contract american iphone 4 32gb back in U.K. using my contract O2 microsim, I was told by the guy in the store that I could use my O2 sim?

You can't, a non contract US phone means just that it is not tied to a fixed term contract.  It is still locked to AT&T and they have never officially unlocked a phone.  You need to see if there is some way you can return it and get money back.

  • Will my factory unlocked non contract t-mobile iphone 6 work in India if I use another sim there?

I am planning to buy the new iPhone 6 with the t-mobile non contract version which is factory unlocked. I will occasionally travel to India, so I will the Indian sim in India. I wanted to know if my Indian sim will work in this phone or not?

Not sure if your question was answered, but I just used a T-Mobile iPhone 6 in France with no problem.  T-mobile does not appear to have a lock on the phones.  In case this is relevant, I first turned on and set up the iPhone 6 in the US with the T-Mobile sim in it, but never intentionally "activated" anything with T-Mobile.  I just used the iPhone on Wifi for a couple of weeks in the US before returning to France.
Other than the "unlock" issue, iPhone 6 should work in India with any sim-based network.

  • Iphone purchased and gifted to an india person with non contract apple iphone.  it can use in india or not

Iphone purchased and gifted to an india person with non contract apple iphone.  it can use in india or not

If it is an unlocked iPhone, GSM model, it should work though will not likely work on an LTE network...those are not consistent in frequencies.
But, keep in mind that the warranty is only valid in the country of sale.  If there is a problem with the iPhone, there will be no support for it in India.  It will have to be returned to the country of purchase for service support.

The nice thing about owning this overpriced POS is that Apple not only doesn't support it, but also doesn't want to hear about anything negative regarding it.  So I spoke to the so-called "support" people at Apple who successfully screwed up my contacts beyond repair.  I got a nice email from Apple asking me to rate the support I got.  I was actually civil and described the issue tactfully.  What do I get in return?  Nothing.  Not a damned thing!!  You're luck you've got me by the short hairs on a 2 year contract but I'm still tempted to throw this POS through the front window of the nearest Apple store!!  Not only will I be replacing this phone with a competitive product but I won't be buying anymore Apple crap.  I guess when you con 27 million people into believing your rhetoric and sales lies, you don't have to care whether some customers get screwed or not.  I'll be going back to Verizon and threatening legal action if they don't take this electronic dung heap back but I'm sure the teams of lawyers Apple and Verizon have on staff have insured that I have no rights in this matter and you're free to screw me anytime you please.  Sad. I used to love Apple as a company and your products.  Now you're just another Microsoft with more trendy looking junk.  I've had it with you.  If any of your executives are brave enough to talk to me, please contact me at your convenience.

  • I have a non contract iphone4 bought from Apple U.S. store and need to travel to India - how can I use this in India? Can apple unlock it for me so I can put in my own SIM there?

I have a non contract iphone4 that I bought from an Apple Store in the U.S. and now am travelling to India - can apple factory unlock it so I can use it in India with a local SIM card?
    Please advise.

WE are not all computer geeks,  And the phone companies are trying to run a monopoly.
I think forums like this are great places to inform people who need it.
I have heard horror stories from my family of $85/month iPhone contracts and locked phone.
Let help all of us and discuss how to get unlocked phones and cheaper contracts.
Ok so you say factory unlocked phones are possible in Us. Is that through Apple only?
At&T and verizon dont unlock?  Is they any consumer advocacy legislation that would force them?  In Uk when they opened to 4 companies  (now 6 here) they forced companies to unlock.

  • Why unlocked no contract iphone 5s in us only sale for about 700 aud???

Why unlocked no contract iphone 5s in us only sale for about 700 aud??? N in Australia sales for 869 aud?
If u add 10% tax and reasonable shipping cost, which is about 780 aud, it should not be that expensive! Can any apple employee provide a good explanation?

Maybe, but there are none here.  This is a user to user TECHNICAL SUPPORT forum.  In addition to us all being users just like you (Apple is not here), your question is not a technical support issue and is not appropriate for this forum.

  • Purchased a non-working iphone 4 and am in need of help

Okay, so I purchased a non-working iphone 4 off of ebay, because sadly that was the only way I could afford one.  Anyway, I began breaking it down piece by piece last night so that I might be able to narrow down what was wrong with it.  And that is where I need the help of the apple community.  I have cleaned all the contact metal on the inner part of the iphone, cleaned the logic board, the charging port.  The person I bought it from said that it would randomly restart while charging, and once you unplugged it from charging, it would shut off.  So far, I have not even been able to get it to charge at all, and therefore, no random restarting either.  I was able to get it to come back on after I had cleaned everything off and put it back together, even tried to restore it through itunes, but it got stuck on the apple logo, and brought up two different errors on two different occasions, 1603 and 21.  I am relieved that there is nothing wrong with the lcd screen or the digitizer, as I know those are expensive.  I already have a new battery ordered for it that should be here tomorrow along with a charging port as well because the previous owner said it could probably use a battery, and I just went ahead and ordered the charging port just in case there might be something wrong with it as well.  My question is, is it possible that the logic board could be bad in my iphone, and could that be also causing my iphone not to charge, or restore to ios 6.1.3?  All help is appreciated.  Thanks.
    James Arden

Is it possible?  Yes. Very much so.
The iPhone is not user serviceable. Apple does not sell iPhone parts. Apple won't touch it now that its been opened. Try checking ifixit.com for help. There's not much we can tell you.

  • I have an iphone 5 prob sending texts to non-apple iphones.

i have an iphone 5. all working EXCEPT...can't seem to send texts to non-apple iphones. can anyone help or suggest what prob might be?

That has something to do with your carrier. If your phone is sending messages at all, it means your data is working fine, but if it's not sending just green SMS messages to non-iphones, you need to contact your carrier and let them know
