Non Drop or Drop frame?

I am about to put together my final show sequence. Each part I cut on separate 720p HD sequences set to drop frame. The final product will be NTSC SD I probably should know this but do I set the final sequence to drop or non drop?

It doesn't matter. AT ALL. All drop frame is is dropping certain timecode numbers in order to keep proper time. That's it. Non drop, drop frame...run at exactly the same speed. We use drop frame in broadcast TV to insure proper show times. Going to DVD...it doesn't matter at all.

Problems working with non drop and drop frame DVCPRO HD material in project

I am having playback problems with my non drop frame HDV material. It stutters.
All of our projects up to this point have been shot in drop frame. During our last shoot however the Bcam was recorded in non drop. I loaded both the non drop bcam tapes as non drop and the drop frame Acam tapes as drop. All of the drop frame Acam material plays back fine in the source viewer and the timeline. The non drop Bcam material seems to randomly stutter in the source viewer, or causes the system to serve a "dropped frames warning" in the timeline.
Is there a bug with fcp 5.1.2 about mixing non drop and drop frame material in a project. Or is this not possible? They are the same frame rate.
I have exported the non drop clips in a drop frame timeline and re-imported them as drop frame clips - thus correcting the problem. Is this the best solution?
All of the material was loaded thru a kona card as 1080i60 DVCPROHD 29.97
I had no problems capturing the material as long as I used the corrrect firewire setting (ndf vs df).
Anyone have a problem like this? I would greatly appreciate a response.

The camera can record 60i, and 30F:
"HDV 1080, 50i/60i/30F/25F Recording and Playback capable"
Look at the clips...look at their frame rates. What do they say? Is one 59.94? Is the other 29.97?
You would never need to render if you mixed NDF and DF footage. The footage runs at the same speed, on the TC numbers are different. But, you would need to render if your footage had different frame rates. LOOK AT THE CLIPS.

At what point does iM 09 reputedly drop the 2nd frame of video

Reading the boards it seems to be accepted that iM 09 drops every other frame of video in it's processing as opposed to iMHD 6 which is reputed to produce superior video quality.
At what point in the video processing does iM 09 skip that second frame? Is the quality lost when initially transferring the video info into the program or when the edited info is transferred to iDVD for burning?

iMovie 'drops' the frames of video footage that is in DV format upon export of the video, not import. All the frames are imported, but not used when iMovie is 'shared.'

Dragging ande dropping into a frame?

Hi all,
I am new to Swing Programming and i have a problem in implementing the JTree.
According my requirement i need to drag a child node of the Jtree and drop into a frame which is adjacent to the JTree pane.
But i am struck at only dragging and dropping the child node inside the tree itself,
Please help me by some links or tutorials or any help is greatly appreciated.

now i can able to compile the source code.thanks for that but my actual problem is i am creating a GUI. i am using splitpane to split my Frame. and my left split pane contains the XML schema in the form of a JTree. and i need to drag and drop the nodes of a JTree on to right split pane which sub divided in to some regions. i can able to open the xml file in to left split pane as a Jtree. but unable to drag and drop the Nodes in to rightsplit pane.

Photos won't drop on Drop zones

Photos won't drop on drop zones anymore. I can see the photos in the media browser, but they won't drop where I send them. I had to re-organize my iphoto library a bit, but all the photos are seen and work fine in iphoto, just won't drop into drop zones in idvd 6. A very few photos will work. Is there some re-initializing the library I need to do or something?

HELP converting non-drop to drop frame

Hi all,
I accidentally edited footage on a non-drop frame sequence. I know the sequence settings can not be changed at this point, but even if I create a new drop frame sequence and copy and paste my edited footage there are gaps/inconsistencies, etc. Is there any way to avoid this? Or to make the sequence drop-frame? I'm trying to avoid having to match back each individual clip and rebuild the edit. Thanks!

To which I would add, try searching here form "standards conversion." Since you're going from 25fps to 30fpas, you must figure out a way to add 4.97 frames each second of screen time. Many ways to do this depending on your skills and your needs for visual integrity.

Master Template Drop Zone Causes Frame Offset Problem

I created a template in Motion with two drop zones. When I use it in Final Cut as a master template, and drop in two video clips, the clips are offset about 4 frames from the originals. I can see this when I toggle the template's track on and off to see the underlying clips that got dropped in from my timeline. The cut points don't match up to what winds up in the template's dropzones for some reason.
This is a problem, because I'm using the template as a transition between full screen and a PIP-type effect.
The weird frame offset causes a visual glitch that I have to correct by adjusting the start/end points. This is extremely time consuming, as I have to apply the template to a huge number of clips.
I'm using the latest version of Final Cut Studio.

Just discovered that the frame offset increases the further I am into a clip.
I took a part from the beginning.. frame offset = 2 frames.
Took one closer to the end of a 4 minute clip.. frame offset = 14 frames.
The video is encoded in ProRes422 at 29.97 fps, and the Motion template is 29.97 also. Any ideas?

Dropping larger video frame sizes into timeline at 100%

In FCP6.0, I'd like to drop a 448x252 video onto a Sequence set at 320x240, but I want the larger original video to remain at 100% scale. By default FCP will reduce the size of the larger video to fit (~70%). I can easily set it back by setting the Scale back to 100% in the Motion Tab. But that forces yet another render.
Is there a way to tell FCP to drop in a larger video without reducing the scale to fit? I've already unchecked "Always scale clips to sequence size", and set Auto Conform Sequence to NEVER, but it seems to make no difference. Am I missing something obvious?

I'm fairly certain that those new-to-FCP 6 settings that you speak of are only for clips smaller than the sequence frame size.
Larger clips will always be scaled to fit into a sequence.

HD DV exporting drops or adds frames

I finished 4 minutes video in HD DV it looks great after rendering. Exporting to NTSC 720X480 or HD DV it creates drops frame or add frames sort 5 frames looping. I notices esspecially right after dissolve transition.

After spending about 6 hours I found the problem, but thanks for trying to help.
This is for everyone out there, who are or will be facing this problem. The major thing what causes the frame skip or adding frames is FCP 5.14 compressor. The solution here is to use the compressor2. I tried it and it worked great.
The second solution export Quick time using the existing settings un-check self contain movie. Than open the SD project and drop the exported movie into the timeline. The scale will be 50%.
I wonder if FCP 6.0 solved this.

MBP 15 (non-retina) - price drop ever?

So, I'm most interested in the MBP 15 non-retina...
but the latest price updates and new processors on... everything else, makes me think that Apple will just run out the supply of the non retinas until they're gone.
Does this sound like an accurate assessment?
If that is the case, what is the most likely scenario in regards to pricing and processor updates? Will they ever see a price reduction?
Just want to know whether to buy now or wait, kind of confused as to why pricing/configuration was untouched in mid-feb when the prices of the retinas were dropped.

Our menu bar no longer works correctly. The flyouts only show the first menu option and none of the drop-down menu options.

In previous versions of Mozilla we had drop-down menus that contained flyouts that offered more drop-down options. This no longer works in Mozilla 4. If you look at our website in IE7, 8 or 9 and Mozilla 4.0.2 they now work differently. (www.saskschoolboards.ca) Eg. Under About Us / Committees there should be three more dropdowns on a flyout - Committee List; MEPP Report and Semi-Annual Report form. Mozilla 4.0 only shows Committee List and no other drops downs. All of our flyouts are showing only the first selection and nothing else.
Other affected menus dropdowns are:
Board Dev / Trustee Development (there should be 4 dropdowns - not just one)
Communications has Surveys and Elections
Why is Mozilla not showing our menus correctly anymore?

It looks that the mootools script is no longer compatible with Firefox 4. 
Google Chrome behaves the same and also doesn't open the sub-menus properly and keep the first entry on display once it is open.
Did you check if there is an update for that script?

None of the drop down menus work they r highlighted gray so I can't access them got the latest updates running lion. 10.7.2 all software is up to date

Just updated everything but when I open iTunes all my drop down menus are gray and I can't selecte them. To close out iTunes I have to use command option esc and force quit because all drop down menus and shaded gray and I can't access them

That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail. Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently? That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix: usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected. There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time. Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before. That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

1G iPhone 8gb - LCD non-responsive after dropping

Hey guys,
I've got a 8gb 1st gen iphone that I just dropped The glass didn't crack, but there are several cracks underneath the glass. Now, the LCD isn't responsive at all. I've tried to do a restore but the touchscreen isn't functioning at all. The home and lock buttons work fine though.
Any ideas on what I can do to get this going again?

Which is fair enough, but it does sound like the "touch" element of the screen is broken and needs to be repaired/replaced.
These things do tend to break easily, remember the first Nokia's, i dropped them heaps of times, when it got scratched, you just got a new cover for it.

How can I create "drop caps" Anchored frames tool: "Run into Paragraph" in a text document, and at the same time be able to feather the text to the bottom of the pages? I´m using FrameMaker 10.

Presumably you are doing the DC as a single letter inside an Anchored Frame run-in from left.
Back when FM had a manual, this was the method discussed in the manual. The manual, however, also said "Framemaker does not feather text in a text frame in which text runs around graphics."
That was FM7.0. I don't know if FM has enhanced DC or feathering since then.
If I had the requirement, I might look at putting the whole lead paragraph in a borderless table.

I have updated to Firefox 7.0.1 and now none of the drop-down menus at the top of the screen work, not even the Apple menu. If I click on the heading (e.g. File) nothing happens.I have a Mac Intel running OSX 10.6.8. Is there an update to fix this bug?

I found a partial answer at [[http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/716983|safe-mode]] , which is to close Firefox and restart in Safe-Mode. (Hold down the Option key while restarting Firefox.) After doing this I exported all my bookmarks and imported them to Safari, so at least I'll have a browser that works.
