Non-email Apple ID to iCloud

I hope I can explain this thoroughly.
I created an iTunes account many moons ago when they were not required to be e-mail address.  Today, new Apple IDs are required to be e-mail addresses, I believe.  I know that Apple IDs can be changed as well.  What I would like to accomplish is to rename this Apple ID to and create an iCloud account at the same time.
For example, current Apple ID is Global.  I would like to change this to [email protected], where this e-mail address and iCloud account did not exist before.

You have an Apple ID, but no iCloud account. In order to create an iCloud account using this ID you will have to change the present ID to a functioning email address which cannot be an @icloud.com address. Once you have changed to another ID address, you can use that to create an iCloud account and an @icloud.com address to go with it. However you cannot at any point make that @icloud.com address the ID.
What you can do (though I don't advise it) is to create a new Apple ID and iCloud account at the same time, using the account's @icloud.com address also as the ID. For details on how to do this please see Imp68's post here:

I do not recommend this because there is a definite security risk in making the the Apple ID (and thus iCloud login) the same as your published @icloud.com address - any malicious person can lock you out of your account by persistently trying to log in with invalid passwords.
Furthermore if Apple needs to contact you in the event your account becomes inaccessible, and has only that account's email address to do so, it will not be able to contact you leading you to need to go through the whole Support fandango. So if you really want the login to be the @icloud.com address you must create another contact/rescue address using a non-Apple email address.
I would recommend getting an email address (such as a free one from Gmail or Yahoo) and using it only as the Apple ID.

    I'm unable to restore my iPhone 4/iOS 6.1.3 backup to my new iPhone 5/iOS 7.0
    Using my new iPhone 5s:

When I enter these, I get this message: The authentication information provided does not match our records. Please verify your personal information and try again.
    So apparently my old iPhone 4 is backing itself up using an iCloud account that uses my current email-based Apple ID, but somehow the backups it saves use my old, non-email-based Apple ID, so I can't use them to restore to another device.
    I'm not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions are appreciated.

    I have exactly this issue. A few years ago I changed my Apple ID. No problem then or since then. But today when I try to restore my new iphone 5S from an existing back up - a back up which I created from my iphone 4 just a minute before using the same iCloud/Apple ID - it defaults to an old Apple ID (that I can't change) so when I enter my password (which is actually the same password as for the old Apple ID) it says can't restore from back up (specifically items purchased from iTunes) because the Apple ID and/or password is incorrect. I am like 'yeah, it's incorrect because you have defaulted to the wrong Apple ID doofus'. Any ideas?

    thats because the icloud settings still believe it is signed into the old email as the apple id. icloud is the only setting that has this issue. u will need to change ur primary back to the old email to sign out of the icloud settings, change ur primary back to the email u want to use, verify the new email, and sign into icloud settings using the correct username and pass.
    tip: u dont need to verify ur email when u change it to the old one to sign out of the icloud settings. u only need to verify ur email address with ur apple id before u sign back in.

    As we are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple, I've asked the hosts to remove your email addresses from your post - it's not a good idea to post personal info on any public forum, unless you like spam emails.
    All iTunes downloads are tied to the account that downloaded them, and iTunes accounts have to have a unique email address - you are sure that you created a second account ? If you try to create a new account with an email address that is already being used as a primary email address you get a prompt saying so, and to either log in with the existing account or to use a different address for the new account
    Have you invited your icloud.com account to be part of the family ? Adding email addresses to be an account's alternate email addresses does not make its purchases available to the account, the account that made the purchases needs to be part of the family.

    I have some apps on my iPhone thar I downloaded before an email address was required your Apple ID. Now that an email address is required I can't run updates on those apps from the app store because the apps still have my old username associated with them. I recently upgraded my phone to ios7 which is requiring me to update my apps. How can I get my apps back and/or update them. Thanks!

    Just adding, I've read that I need to delete those apps but the upgrade to ios7 removed them. I,d be happy to delete them if I had access to them. Any ideas?

    If you don't know your password, don't know your security questions and don't have a rescue address or don't receive a reset email, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
    If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

  • ICloud problems - multiple apple ids, ids in non-email format , bugs

       There is a major bug involving AppleIDs.  I searched the web and contacted tech support and gave up after hours on the phone of them trying things that didn't fix the problem.
       The bug has to do with AppleIDs - I had an appleID, "myname" that I used for iTunes purchases and the email address associated with that appleID was , "[email protected]"  When iCloud came out I was forced to use , "[email protected]" for my iCloud account because it would not accept an appleID in a format that was not an email address.  This is fine but here is the problem...  Since my iCloud/mobileme address ([email protected]) was already associated and verified and linked with my appleID, "myname" it causes all sorts of other problems when I try to use features such as , "Find My Friends" or "FaceTime"  because when I type in my email address, "[email protected]" it says it is already associated with a different AppleID... and because the AppleID that it is associated with is not in the format of an email address , it will not work for these features. 
       There needs to be some way to "unverify" an email address from an AppleID or some way to merge multiple AppleIds.

    Yes!!  I have the same thing.  I don't know exactly how it happened, but some of my apps are associated with my original itunes account and some are associated with my mobile me account.  I have a new iPhone which I have not migrated to because I would like to fix this problem.  I have not migrated to iCloud yet because there is no solution to merge accounts yet.  Hopefully there will be a solution soon.  Please reply back to this thread if you have found a solution.  Thanks!

  • The non-email address apple Id I have had for years, now won't work.

    I have had an Apple ID for a long time and it has always worked on every Apple device I have until recently.  This Apple ID was noot my email address just a random nickname.  I just recently downloaded the latest software update and about the same time my password for my old Apple ID stopped working at once for all of my gadgets as if it never existed.  When I tried to update my apps a box appears that says "You can't update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software"   I tried to use the feature "Forgot my password" to which I was redirected by ITunes but it asked for my date of birth for the purpose of verification and even though I answered it correclty 2-3 times, it told me that it was not the correct one. 
    Then I tried to log in using my account primary email, restoring the pasword for that email and then it worked fine.  Now I can log in using that email address as my Apple ID but it seems like my old Apple ID, that I have purchased everything, is lost in limbo.  The old password and new password for my non-email address Apple ID doesnt work, and when I request for an Email Authentication to be sent to my email for the old Apple ID, no email arrives.
    Since I have all of my information attached to my old Apple ID, and I cant log in, I can't update anything and its telling me I have to re-buy everyting. 
    Any ideas why this is happening and how I can get my old apple ID to work again?

    Did you previously use MobileMe with that ID?  If so, did you correctly migrate from MM to iCloud at mobileme.com?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")

    While you can't currently change your Apple ID to a Mobile/iCloud email address, I found a solution that helps with a related problem.
    Suppose you've recently got an iCloud email address, but Apple are still sending all your iTunes Store, App Store and Mac App Store receipts to your old gmail address (the one that's still your Apple ID). And suppose they're also sending all the Apple Support Communities notifcation emails to your old gmail address. How do you change it? How do you fix it?
    Well the option exists, but it is hidden away in a weird place. To get Apple sending all of their receipts and notifications to your new iCloud email address...
    • Go to your country's Apple Store website http://store.apple.com/
    • Click on the Account button in the top-right corner
    • Under Account Settings, click on Change your default shipping or billing info
    • Sign in with your usual Apple ID and password
    • The email address listed under Payment Information is the key
    • Click on Edit next to Payment Information and change that email address to your iCloud address
    That's all you have to do.

    Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account and request another email.

    Did you create a NEW Apple ID or did you change the email address for your OLD Apple ID? This will affect how you update apps in the future.
    Anyway, go to Settings/iTunes&App Stores, log out, then log in with the new ID.

    OK...now I appear to 'progressed' I changed my email address back to original on Apple id and then was able to delete icloud account. Apparently I couldnt do it as it kept requesting password  when I entered passsword ( both old and new one, it wouldnt accept it as it had my old email address in ) It didnt do that on ios6 . Anyway I deleted account, but now I tried to login in with my new id/password and it says unable as already in use!!! More help needed please! Its a nightmare!!
