  • English reviews in non English app stores

In the past it was possible to see the English / American reviews in non-English app stores. It would be more than nice to get that ability back. In small countries there are often not that many reviews and also English speaking people in non-English countries should be able to read reviews.

Are you referring to the Customer Reviews? iTunes doesn't distinguish which language is used by the customer in writing the review so it can't filter out those you don't want to see. In fact someone could write one review and use many languages in it, but it seems those that speak German are the most vocal in the Swiss store.
This is also a user forum. Responses are from other users of Apple products. It is mainly for other users helping you with a problem that they can fix. If you want to give feedback to Apple select Provide iTunes Feedback from the iTunes menu from within the iTunes application.

  • Non-Existent App Update?

I have an iPhone 3gs and everything works fine up until the iOS7 was released, I know it is unavilable on myphone but I think the release has effective my phone in someway. My app store stats I have a update for one of my apps, when I open it up nothing is avilable to download. I change tabs etc. but it still shows up?
I have since had different (legitiment) updates come for bugs/compatability for iOS7 etc. but after I've installed them I get the same (1) notification and yet again nothing is there to download.
    Thoughts/suggestions?
    Thanks
    David

I'm going to assume you are on a Mac system.  Check here to see if the app is still actually there.
    Mac OS X 10.7 Lion: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
    Mac OS X 10.6: ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/
If it is, delete it from that folder, and resync your phone again.
If you are on a Windows machine, go here:
    Windows 7: C:\Users\Username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications\
Note: if the app is not in the Mobile Applications folder, you may have to restore your phone as new.  Make sure to backup your phone first.  Restore as new, then restore from backup.

  • Updating non-mac app store apps

I got my pages mac app from school, which I downloaded from my schools website. Since mountain lion, I can't update the app since it's not from mac app store. What can I do?

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
If the app can't be updated through Software Update, then I would contact the school for instructions.

  • Updating an non-existant app

    Hi folks,
I'm running ML 10.8.2 on a mid 2011 i5 iMac and an update is available for an app I no longer have.  Will any harm happen if I click UPDATE?

Why would you want to if you don't have the app? I would assume you'd simply get a popup saying "can't be installed" or some such thing. Is the application part of the Mac OS or a third party app (big difference)?

  • Generating a report for non-existent apps?

I have 200+ machines on my network and manage mostly through ARD, I am trying to figure out a way to generate a list of computers that DO NOT have a specified app installed. Can this be achieved through either ARD, AppleScript or a combination of both?

well if you send unix command and do some thing like:
    ls -al /Applications/Firefox.app
if it's not there , you would get back
ls: /Applications/Firefox.app: No such file or directory
BUT that dosen't tell you what verion is installed.
you could do send unix command:
    defaults read /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/version.plist CFBundleShortVersionString
if it's installed you'll get back some thing like:
    9.2.1
if not installed you'll get back some thing like.
The domain/default pair of (/Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/version.plist, CFBundleShortVersionString) does not exist

  • Parental Controls showing old, non-existing apps

When I went to refresh the applications that my young son can use, the list of "Other" is showing applications that no longer exist on our Mac. How can I get this list to refresh?
    Thanks,
    Tony

hmm, you can try rebuilding launch services database. that works for getting rid of old applications in the open with" menu. maybe that will clear that parental controls list too.
open terminal (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and run the following command (copy and paste please):
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

  • Duplicates and non-existent apps in the "Open with" list

My "Open with" list is a mess for nearly all kinds of files. I'm not sure how I could clean this up or edit it. Look at the image below for example. I have some idea about how this happened, but no idea on how to fix it.

That's LaunchServices. These are only cache files but can get corrupted. Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices: (be sure to copy the entire line it's a scroll)
    Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • How to recover non-app-store Software?

I am trying to restore my iMac to the factory settings. Currently it is running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion.
Here's the problem. I have a bunch of Non-Mac App Store Software installed in it and I wonder how am I giong to restore them after the system reinstall. I know there should be no problem with App Store purchases as I can D/L them later. Would non App Store S/W work if I copied them to a different external drive and then copied them back after system reinstall?

Archive your existing system: Use Time Machine to back up or "clone" your existing system to another volume, using Carbon Copy Cloner or equivalent utility.
Restore your iMac to factory settings using its original System Install DVD or OS X Recovery whichever is applicable.
Using Setup Assistant, migrate your archived User Accounts and Applications to the restored iMac.
This will ensure the complete transfer of your previously licensed software.
Following that, upgrade your iMac to Mountain Lion using the same Apple ID used to purchase it. You do not have to pay for it again.

  • How do I register non-app store items?

I have added iWork and Micromat TechTool 6 amd Micromat Checkmate 1.0.4 to my OS10.8.4 via DVD's. The App Store is not allowing upgrades to be opened. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can't register non-Mac App Store applications onto the Mac App Store. Apple doesn't allow you to turn DVD versions into Mac App Store versions (they are the same version but with a few differences related to updates and licenses).
Also, Micromat TechTool and Micromat Checkmate are not available in the Mac App Store, so it's impossible to register them

  • Get rid of mac app store update??

I had to do a clean install of snow leopard because i didnt like the way lion ran on my macbook. 2 days later i saw an app store update icon. I found it odd since i hadnt added any apps yet. it said there is an update for the store news update. but i dont have that app so i tried to install it and delete it but it says i have to sign in with some strange email. im lost and dont know how that is possible. can someone please explain how to get rid of it?

    Here's a theory about this...
When you set up your SL system, did you reinstall or continue to use your own software like personal apps, games, etc.?  If so, were they all from "legitimate" sources?  If not, it is possible you have a hacked version of some software which originally came from the app store and that hacked version has a _MASReceipt from the app that's confusing you.
Once upon a time a simple hack was to take the _MASReceipt from some free app store app and replace the _MASReceipt's in a non-free app store app.  I think that hole is long since sealed.  But if there is a wayward _MASReceipt floating around in some app bundle then the App Store stuff added to systems beyond 10.6.5 is going to find it.   Apparently the app the _MASReceipt's originally came from for has been updated and you are being notified about it.  And I guess _MASReceipt's contain account info adding to the confusion.
So you need to check for a _MASReceipt in some app bundle.  Download a search utility that can look into app bundles, e.g., Find Any Fiile, and tell it to search for _MASReceipt.  You will see a checkbox on top that says Show Package Contents.  Keep that checked.  It will then search within application bundles.  If there's a _MASReceipt somewhere, someplace, you should be able to find it.  Then trash the app that contains it.
    Again, just my theory.

  • TS1702 Apps are 'frozen' on App Store Update Page - After Updating

I've gone from non-stop App Store updates to zero App Store updates on my iPhone 5.
However, the App Store Update Page just will not clear now. All are downloaded and that usually clears this page until the next updates are ready for download.
Anyway, no luck ridding myself of these already downloaded Apps from the App Store Update Page. I
I've opened each App from this page, tried force closing the App Store and rebooting etc.
I tried deleting all the "frozen" Apps. They disappeared from the App Store update page. But once I went and downloaded the Apps again (this time using iTunes (to circumvent the device App Store) they appeared right back on the same page.

There is, currently, no way to remove them. Whether by design or not, is not known. I thought they rolled off after a week, but I can confirm they don't.

  • Brand new mbp retina & app store updates

Maybe this should be in a different discussion forum but I haven't had this happen before.
I received my new macbook pro retina today and had to do the Mountain Lion update. Did that ... then there were three additional updates. The SMC deal - which updated. Then, iPhoto and iMovie...
so, I'm coming from an existing app store/apple account - I've been using it the last few years.  But, when I tried to do the iPhoto & iMovie update, it tells me the following:
"You have updates available for other accounts.
To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
    What?
This is a brand new machine, iPhoto & iMovie were installed with the previous OS before I updated to ML today.
I bought the computer under my apple account. I downloaded the OS update with my apple account.
Don't understand - thoughts?  I searched and I found where previous owners of a used computer could cause an issue - this is brand new.
    ?? Help ??
However, maybe I don't want to update to iPhoto because I saw some negative comments on that too...

I have now found a couple of threads... going to try these ideas and see if it works:

  • App store shows "download" when already installed.

Why does the app store show mountain lion ready to "download" when I have already installed mountain lion? Do i need to download and reinstall?

Well, because the App Store is only concerning itself with the Mountain Lion _installer_ (which is an application) and not the OS itself.
The OS will be updated via Software Update, as it always is.  Note that in Mountain Lion that Software Updates appear in the App Store application, but this doesn't mean they're actually delivered _via_ the App Store.  Software Updates for non-Mac-App-Store applications are delivered as they always were, just with a different front-end UI.  It can be confusing ;-)
