Non existence internet speed. Very unhappy as Virg...

Having moved over to BT internet in Sept I am very unhappy at the level of speed. some days it wont even go online ( I never had this problem with Virgin) I am sick of having to get up at 6am just to look at the internet knowing that it wont work later this is not what I signed up for , you say in the help section do the speed checker ? I have tried but the internet is so slow it gives up half way through !! Forget trying to go online after 7.30pm as it can take 1hr to load up the yahoo email page ?? yet I can get it on my mobile in 2 mins ................................... maybe you can add some suggestions if it isnt fast enough for your speed checker?

Hello ,
Can you please post your ADSL stats by following this direct link; http://192.168.1.254/ going to A-Z (top right hand of the page) then to ADSL Status and post the stats including Noise Margin, Line Attenuation, Connection Speed, Errors etc..
Also we need a speedtest just to have a look and make sure everything's okay? Use this link http://bit.ly/o8qqQ9 as it will also help you diagnose and give you a list of solutions afterwards to help you diagnose your problems if it thinks there is a problem. Could you please also copy and paste the results from the White/Black/Green pop out page including your IP profile, DSL Connection Rate and speed achieved during test.
Run a line test to determine if or not it is an external problem: http://bit.ly/tgwip
Can you also confirm if you're connected at the master socket or an extension? And what your type your master socket is according to this picture
Lastly for now, call 17070 and Press Option 2 for the Quiet Line test and where possible use a corded phone as DECT handsets can pick up electrical interference?

  • My internet speed suddenly went VERY slow on all browser

    I am running on a Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, 2 Ghz Intel i7, 4GB Ram DDR3.
I am experiencing very slow internet speed after some system update some time ago.
I have tried using wireless and LAN cable but both results the same.
I've tried resetting routers in both my office and home but it is still as disappointing.
Kindly advice on what to do? I've forgotten which update is it as it is some time ago already.
I have installed bootcamp in my macbook and tried the using from windows but there isn't such issue. The internet was smooth and great.

    Try these basic troubleshooting steps.
    1. Quit all app scompletely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    2. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    3. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Windows 7 64 Bit Very VERY slow internet speed

I just bought two new laptops for my wife and I and we've been having terrible trouble with download speeds since taking them out the box.
We are using the exact same configuration and IP as before only our last two computers were on XP and Vista but there were no issues whatsoever. I even went and bought a new router just in case that was the problem but it made absolutely no difference, leaving
me with the conclusion its a problem with the 64 bit version of Windows 7.
Currently I cannot even watch a Youtube video because after loading the first couple of seconds, it stops loading and then after a couple of minutes there's a quick burst of speed and stops again.
I can't complete a speed test on my connection on either laptop. Normally this would take only a few seconds but the site (speedtest.net) crashes every time using windows 7.
    Setup;
    Windows 7 64Bit
    Intel i3 2310M @ 2.1Ghz
    4Gb of RAM
My IP is VirginMedia UK on a 10Mb connection (same problem wired or wireless)
As you can imagine this is very frustrating since I have just paid out over £1000 to find my browsing experience has virtually at a stand still.
Any help in this matter would be very much appreciated

I recently had the same problem after installing Windows 7 64bit.  The internet speed for some reason was really slow.  After looking for a solution I tried to flush the DNS.  It worked.
    Open start menu
type "cmd" in the search then hit enter key
when the new screen opens type:
    ipconfig /release
     hit enter and then type
    ipconfig /flushdns
    hit enter and then type
    ipconfig /renew
hit enter and the problem is solved.

  • Close the lid very weak internet speed Open the lid great internet speed

I have my 13.3" MBP connected to a external display (23" ACD) using BT mouse/KB. With the lid cracked open I have GREAT internet speed, if I close the lid internet speed slows to a CRAW.
I have never had this problem before.
    Here's what I tried:
    Time Capsule (TC) reset (unplug)
    TC changed several channels
TC Changed network to Mixed, and N (2.4GHz), N (5GHz)
    TC checked Internet Robust
    Reset Cable Modem (re-provisioned)
Checked with application iStumbler no problems with interference
BTW, I have 2 laptops and both do the same thing if connected to the 23" ACD in a room about 22 feet away from the TC. I also have a 24" ACD LED in another room that's about 5 feet away from the TC and do NOT have any of the problems described above with either MBP connected.
Internet Speedtest lid closed = 0.32 mbps download
Internet Speedtest lid open = 28.89 mbps download
    http://www.speedtest.net/index.php?nojs=1
This is not just a flby. I've been testing and setting now for 2 hours with NO change.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Close the lid and prop the machine up on edge, so the display is in about the same position it would be in if it were open. Any difference?
    None, no difference.
Applecare geniuses said it was the TC after 2 hrs of trouble shooting with him, he authorized a replacement. So Im on my way to the Apple store for a replacement, hopefully they will give me the 1,000GB one for the 500GB one I have. We'll see.

  • Win 7 on bootcamp partition, very slow internet speed

    hi!
it might be an answer to my problem somewhere on this forum, but
right now i do not have the time to browse through - so ill just post my problem quick and simple.
im running windows 7 ultimate on a intel imac, via bootcamp. the issue is simple, yet pretty annoying.
in iOS, my internet speed is great, as it should be (my bandwidth is 12/12 mbit).
but in windows 7, for some reason (been like this ever since install) things are going SO slow.
i mean, watching videos on youtube is a nightmare, every 3 second at lowest quality possible, it still
has to buffer. same goes for other streaming sites/services. downloading usually does not exceed 300 kb/ps, but in
ios this could easily hit 1,5 mb/ps.
if i listen to music on say grooveshark (adjusted to lowest quality) the music stops to buffer if i load a different webpage. its that bad.
ive taken a bandwidth check in windows and in iOS, and in iOS the speed is normal, in windows its 1/10th of what it should be.
anyone know why this problem persists?
as i know of, windows 7 doesnt have any bandwidth limiting of default.
so i thought it might be a windows 7/imac hardware conflict. help?

Hi, I'm having the same problem.
    I installed win8.1(64bit) on a iMac7,1 20inch(mid 2007) using Winclone.
Everything was working fine after I downloaded some driverhelper and installed those drivers.
Yet the internet on Win8.1 is very slow, the download speed is merely 60-100kb/s .
While if I open the Mac system, the same resource can easily to beyong 2MB/s.
As I have 25Mb/10Mb connection at home.
I'm new here , don't know exactly what driver I need to fix this problem.
    Try to install boot camp.
However, I tried 5.0 / 4.0 , it all said bootcamp x64 is not supported on this computer model.
Don't know where i can download the bootcampe 3.0 to have a try ?
Or is it just too old iMac to be fixed?

  • Firefox internet speed slow in verizon fios until I use another browser. When I return to firefox speed very much inproved = to other browsers

Each time I run verizon's fios speed test in fire fox the results are very slow until I use another browser,IE, chrome, then back to firefox and rerun speed test. The speed increases = to other browsers. I have another computer on the same network but with win 7 instead of win 8.1 and do not have this problem. This has occurred over several months ,versions and updates of fire fox. I have tried many fixes to no avail. I like fire fox and want to stay with it.

  • VERY slow Internet speeds

During about the past week my internet speeds have been VERY slow, sometimes loading a 1 minute youtube video has taken upto 5 minutes, and i also have been disconnecting off the internet very frequently. We have had bt internet for about 3 years and this has never happened before. We have a BT home hub and all our computers connect to the internet wirelessly. I have spoken to a friend and he said he had the same problem this week, he said he phoned up and got sent a new hub. I am not sure if this is the problem but all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.  I live in dundee (Scotland) if its any help.

    Geoff,
I think Angus has either a Home Hub 1.0 or 1.5 as the front screen when you access the router settings page show "My Broadband Connection" and lists the speed and all the other pieces of information on this screen. Would I be right Angus?
In terms of the slow speed issue you are facing. Please can you post the information on the Home hub screen under "My Broadband Connection" so we can see the results.
Also, the general troubleshooting steps for slow speed would involved moving the Home Hub, if not already there, to the Master/Test socket.
Pleas see the following link for information on how to do this:
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13892/c/346,4740,4740
You may also want to run a speed test, as Geoff suggested ecm200 did, via http://speedtester.bt.com, as the results from this test can be used by technical support to raise a fault.
I know that some people think that because they have been connected to the same socket for a certain period of time, and the connection/speed has never changed, that the socket must be Ok, but if this socket is an extension socket, the internal wiring may have degraded over time and this is the cause of the poor speed. This is why technical support always ask to go to the Master/Test socket, to prove that the fault is on the BT Network.
I reckon, at worst, you will get an engineer to visit, who will either fix the fault, or recommend that the Hub is replaced. However, the troubleshooting steps will have to be completed before you get to this stage.
    Cheers

  • Very slow Internet speeds throughout most of the d...

For the past month my Internet has been deteriorating. I get patches of the day (maybe 30minutes) where I have a normal Internet speed, latency's of ~30 and download speeds of around 5k kbps. But now my average download speed is more around 300-600 kbs with latency's greater than 150. I find that the connection is slightly better late at night or early in the morning. I have tried the call centre's but they really haven't helped what so ever.
    Here is my router status:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1157 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :6496 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5000 Kbps
Would be grateful for some help/insight in this matter as it very fustrating.

    Hi jpleclef,
Your line is entitled to get the speed close to 7 megs. The test that you have uploaded shows the good router status. I would advice you to check it with the ethernet cable (yellow ended). If however it gives you the same speed then it can be considered as an issue.
There might be some flag on the line.
Could you please tell me your plan.
And there are several ways where you can raise this issue to higher level.
Dear jpleclef, Please note that you need to be paitient with this. I am saying this because I've seen thousands issue like this which customer endup giving the BB connection, even this doesn't help because changing the service provider doesn't changes the line.
    So, Task for you is:
    Check with ethernet cables.
    tell me your option plan
In the next post I'll explain you a lot more of the test result that you have posted.  Feel free to write me on *******.

  • Windows 7 internet speed is very slow.

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro Lion 10.7.4 and I recently installed Windows 7 by using my install disc and through Boot Camp. I have installed the lastest drivers for Windows through the Boot Camp. Everything was fine except the internet speed on the Windows. It took a long time to load webpages and all my messages on Skype were pending which probably points to the slow internet I am getting from my wireless device. On the other hand, the speed of my internet was fairly fast with a download speed of 500 - 700kb/s on the Mac OSX. My download speed is about 30-50 kb/s on Windows. Is there a problem with my Windows drivers or maybe my wireless just doesn't like Windows?
    Thanks,
    Chris

What level of speed and bandwidth does your ISP say you should get?
I would look at the modem, the age of the router, etc.
Are you on DSL? does not sound like cable.
Run a test, see what this shows and look at the ping in milliseconds.
    http://speedtest.net/
It use to be, and I think is still true actually, that Windows has had faster I/O but it depends on your equipment and whether it is 'current' or not. Make and brand. Even if there are firmware updates or supported any longer.
Can you test with a wired connection? you have a tower, therefore it has two ethernet ports on the back, not a laptop. Distance and interference.
Get your ISP - see if they have forum, phone support is often a joke but forums can really provide help, whether your equipment is rented or not.

  • Non-Flash based internet speed test sites for touch?

I'd like to test my internet speed directly from my touch. It seems like the speed test sites out there that I've found (like www.speakeasy.net/speedtest)use Flash which won't work with the touch. Does anyone know of any internet speed test sites that will work on the touch's Safari browser?

Great! Thanks for the info. The results seem to be lower than normal though. I could not get over 768k even with my 1.5mb cable connection here at home. I did find this site: http://i.dslr.net/tinyspeedtest.html which seems to test more accurately.

  • Why is my second computer's (wireless) internet speed slower than my 'base' computer's (non-wireless)?

My son has a Macbook that  he uses in another room of our house. The router is at my desk, and is wired to my desktop MacMini. Why should his internet speed be slower than mine? Is there a remedy such as switching providers or routers?

According to the manual for the router you said you have, the maximum supported speed is 22 Mbps for 802.11b and 54Mbps for 802.11b/g - since that MacBook supports 802.11a/b/g/n, 54Mbps is the best case scenario if it's negotiating an "g" connection or 22Mbps if it gets a "b" type connection. So what is your internet connection speed? And that 22/54Mbps is best case - depends on how many wall and other obstructions it goes thru by the time it gets to his MacBook.
If he holds down the Option key and clicks on the WiFi icon in the title bar he should see what type of connection his MacBook has negotiated with the router. For example here is what mine shows (the connection type is listed as a 802.11/g, 2.4GHz, 54Mbps, channel 11, 20 MHz, etc):
Another thing to try and make a quick measure of the speed between his MacBook and the local router and your Mini is copy a big file from your computer to his. That will give you a good idea of the speed of his wireless connection to the router.
    Good luck...
