Non existent plug ins

Just bought a new 24" iMac which came with iMovie 08 which I didn't like, so I deleted it and installed iMovie HD from my original install disks. Now when I start iMovie HD I get a whole string of error messages which say "something is wrong with the plug in xxx" the first one is 3D color rotate, but when I hit enter I get another for a different plug in and so on for a total of about 50 plug ins. Eventually I can use iMovie ok but its a real pain having to hold the enter key for so long every time I start.
Does anyone know how I can stop iMovie trying to access these non existent plug ins?
thanks

personal opinion only, but why would you want to keep iMovie 08?
As a user of both in concert, I can answer from my perspective. First of all I don't have the innate dislike of iMovie '08 that others do and having never used either version before, I found '08 different but not too hard to master. I would be just as happy using only '08 but I can't because I absolutely must have the ability to define dynamic chapter markers in a full-length movie (something that the Garage Band work-around can't do).
To address the question as to why keep the '08 version, there are a few features that I like better. There are transitions and titles that are either new or improved over those in iMHD6 and the ability to use them is nice. Granted it's a pain to edit the movie in '08, export to a .m4v then open in iMHD6 to split it up and add chapter markers, then share with iDVD, but until someone wants to give me back dynamic chapter marking, or the ability to use iM'08 effects in 'HD6 I'm kinda stuck. That said I will use a good feature wherever I find it, there are some very nice effects in <gasp> Windows Movie Maker </gasp> that are not available in iMovie. I have a virtual machine running XP on my iMac and I'm not afraid to use it and import the result.

  • Fcp looking for non-existent plug ins

i installed some demo audio units plug-ins a while back and didn't like them so i deleted them.
i just had to re-install FCP and now, every time i launch, it looks for each and every one of the audio units. i have to click cancel like forty times to start the program. i've thrown away my prefs, reinstalled the prgram, thrown away all the install receipts, made sure the audio untis are gone etc. I also use Logic Pro as well (that's what the audio units were originally intended for)

  • CS6 New iMac non-recognized plug-ins issue.

I have a brand new iMac and when I started using CS6 (transferred from my time machine back up), it was fine for a few days until inDesign started telling me various plugi-ins were not recognized. I had to uninstall, then re-install and it seemed fine for a few days, then started to give me the same non-recognized plu-ins error messages again. What gives? Any suggestions? Think it could be a Mountain Lion issue not an Adobe issue?

What else did you migrate over? There's no telling what you danaged that way.
That said, can you post screenshots of the error messages? Something might just stand out that would let us help you.

  • Another computer of mine is running windows 7 64 bit and it shows 4 different realplayer or derivative of realplayer plug-ins which seems fishy to me. Are there that many availabe?

The hp laptop running windows 7 seems to me to be running very strange and many programs have appeared that I did not download as if someone else is actually using it as a server. I am constantly changing passwords, updating plug-ins, software, using a wired ethernet linksys router wrt54g for my lan and still have problems with settings getting changed, programs not working , developer programs appearing, having to reboot, ad infinitum and now I am looking at my Firefox Plug-Ins and see RealJukebox NS, RealNetworks RealPlayer Chrome Background Extension, RealPlayer G2 LiveConnect-Enabled, RealPlayer Browser Record, and RealPlayer HTML5VideoShim not to mention the non-RealPlayer Plug-Ins. My question is do all of these exist and why would I have them when I did not install them. Also, would I need them for Windows 7 64 bit. Any information provided will be most appreciated. I'm about to quit and look for another hobby.

    Hi,
Have you tried ping ip address of printer? and check if there exists any data lost in network connection. If your network connection is crowded, it can cause delay for printer.
Also, please attempt to disable all security software temporarily, such as antivirus, firewalls, etc and
    clear all printer cache.
Locate to task manager, check the state of spoolsv.exe, including cpu and memory. If it has high cpu or memory usage, it may be caused by malware. Thus, you'd better to make a full scan with the latest anti-virus.

  • UNIX-side plug-ins (Frame7, 8)

    Hi all;
Does anyone know where I can find documentation on using the apliclients file to install a UNIX-side plug-in (normal-mode Frame8). I can do 1 of two things inside apliclients:
Make the file identical for another plug-in and ours, but ours won't install ("Cannot initialize API client [OurPlugin].")
Eliminate the error message by declaring that our plug-in is an import filter.  But alas, I can't get plug-in's menu to install correctly on the menu bar.
The plug-in is not an import filter.  Instead, the plug-in maps XML to Frame tags inside a text inset (see http://www.design-reuse.com/articles/17309/ip-xact-adobe-framemaker-register-specification -system.html for something similar).  Double-click the inset and Frame calls a separate XML editor.
But setting this up as an import filter isn't working, so I'm trying to determine what options are available inside the apiclients file.  Getting any information at all on the apiclients file would also be helpful and yes, I've looked online and through the UNIX side help files.
The only other idea that comes to mind - for now - is to modify the plug-in so that it doesn't try to install a menu on the menu bar then roll-our-own menu to call functions from the plug-in.  Tho I'm not sure if that would work either.
BTW, this post is similar to post #315439, but that referred to PC Frame8 and now we're back UNIX side.  Michael, re 315439 I like your idea of using a table, but we need to get the inset read-only.  Thanks!
Any ideas will be much appreciated!

It is disappointing indeed, and perhaps a bit more explanation is required:
"Rosetta Mode" means that your Intel-based Mac is executing PowerPC-code instead of native Intel code. This requires that the processor has to look up every single instruction, translate it, and only then can execute it. This leads to significant performance loss. The mere fact that Apple has managed to get even somewhat (perhaps borderline) acceptable performance out of Rosetta is a testament to the ability of their engineers.
Our (cf/x) plug-ins currently are PPC-based only. Because of the nature of plug-ins (they are code that is literally plugged into the running code of the hosting application), a plug-in must always be written for the same processor as the host. iMovie can't simply cick into Rosetta and pop out of it randomly. Therefore you must run iMovie in Rosetta to run PPC-based plug-ins, or run it natively, but with non-native plug-ins disabled.
Which leaves the question why we don't have native plug-ins. The answer is that we dont have them yet as there were significant compiler issues. 'Were', as in 'past tense'. A few weeks ago we had a breakthrough, and are now busily upgrading and porting the PPC code to Universal. Progress is slow, as we need not only to bring the code to Universal, but also have to integrate and test lots of new technology. On two architectures simultaneously. But we are quite sure we'll get there eventually. As always, though, I recommend you do not base any decisions on what I or other people assert, but simply wait and see what gets delivered.

  • Using CFX Plug-ins: Requires Rosetta to be turned on?

    Hello
I very much enjoy using the CFX free plug-ins that allow one to black out the edges of imported VHS video, where the static or not well aligned heads on older video, often occurs.
Since the plugins are not Intel ready yet, the CFX states that you must force your iMovie app to be able to use Rosetta.
One thing they do not address and I need help on, does this make everything I do in iMovie now become slower because of using Rosetta all the time? Or does it slip into Rosetta only to implement the plug in?
    TIA
    d
Here is what the workaround is:
This is a small tutorial on how to enable the option of "Open Using Rosetta" for iLife '06 applications. Here's how you do it. For this example, we will be using iMovie:
    1. Right-click on the iMovie application.
    2. Click "Show Package Contents"
    3. A Finder window should show up entitled "iMovie HD", and there should be a folder called Contents.
    4. Open Contents, and double click "Info.plist"
    5. Scroll down a ways to the bottom, and look for:
    <key>LSRequiresNativeExecution</key>
    <true/>
    6. Change <true/> to <false/>, or just delete it.
    7. Save the file.
    8. Then, open "Disk Utility" and repair disk permissions.
    9. After permissions are repaired, go to /System/Library/ and delete Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext.
    10. Simply reboot, and...
...Voila! The "Open Using Rosetta" option should now be under there in "Get Info". This works for all of the other iLife '06 applications.
EDIT: If deleting Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext doesn't do anything, try moving the application from one directory to another. Also, what will definitely do it, is duplicating the file, however that may take a while depeneding on the speed of your computer and the side of the file.

  • What are 3rd party plug-ins?

I always hear people talking about using 3rd party plug-ins in logic but I dont know what they are I have tried looking on the net but cant seem to get a straight answer.I know logic does not support VST plug-ins so are they just the AU plugins you can install in Logic or something completely different please can someone set me straight thanks.

3rd party (non Apple) Plug Ins can be anything from processing effects to Software synths, samplers, romplers whatever. The AU Plug In format is what Mac's can handle without using VST wrappers. Some users do use VST Plugs with wrappers in Logic but as there are so many AU Plugs out there there is no real need to do so unless you want to use a specific Plug which is only available as an AU Plug In.

  • Plug-ins factor into crossgrade to AI CS3

Yes, you can crossgrade to AI CS3 from FH9, 10 or MX for $199
    US.
However, when planning a switch, make sure you also include
    the price of the
ton of third party plug-ins you'll need to buy to get close
    the same
functionality as many FH features you may rely on. You'll
    need to fork out
wads of cash for features such as multiple pages, scale
    drawings, bending
line segments, joining multiple path segments, knife tool,
    perspective
    drawing. I could go on.
If there are plug-ins and/or scripts that can fully duplicate
    the
    functionality of FH's Find & Replace Graphics, I haven't
    found them.
Do your research before assuming you can easily jump to
    Illustrator.
Here are a few reasons I use FH instead of Illustrator:
-- Name all colors in document
-- Find & Replace color in document, page or selection
-- Find & Replace path shape
    -- Multiple pages
    -- Paste Inside
-- Interactive rounded corners on rectangles
-- Live shape primitives - polygons, stars, etc.
    -- Live ellipse segments
-- Join selected path segments (requires concatonate plug-in)
-- Convert multiple points to curve, corner, retract handles,
    automatic
    handles
-- Split paths at multiple subselected path segments
-- "Bend-o-matic" -- bend straight path segment by dragging
    with pointer
    -- Custom ruler scales
-- Scale raster images numerically from original size
-- Easy handling of linked images, including extract image
-- Adjustable snap and pick distances set in preferences
    -- New object default preference
-- Type on a closed path, upright top and bottom
    -- Zoom view to 512,000 X
-- Tiled printing with specified overlap
    Additions or corrections welcome.

I rave as much as anyone about the ill-advised need to build
dependency upon third party add-ons in AI. However, it can also be
argued that Illustrator offsets some of that with other features
which FreeHand has never had. Yes, GF&R saves time in FH. On
the other hand, AI's built-in macro facility (Actions) saves huge
amounts of time, too. FH has never had a macro utility.
Illustrator's (and the rest of the CS apps') support for
Javascript is another huge productivity advantage. And I'm not just
talking about building Javascript substitutes for FH features like
joining multiple paths, reversing paths, retracting handles, etc.
I'm talking about the ability to create your own features for your
own specific needs. Just a few examples which I use:
A simple Javascript instantly creates a set of numerically
serialized text objects for such things as callouts in maps and
tech illustrations, or for serialized items like tickets.
Another script randomly fills a user-defined rectangular area
with any number of copies of any object.
Another randomly assigns defined swatches to any number of
    selected paths.
Another creates a halftone from a raster image in which each
halftone dot is an instance of a user-defined Symbol.
Another corrects the z-stacking order of selected objects,
based upon their vertical position on the page. (I use this for
processing tabular text in CAD imports.)
Okay, you don't want to build Javascripts. Point is, the more
AI users do it, the less likely you have to. AI Javascript is
completely cross-platform. People share them all the time, for
free. So for me, this is a huge productivity advantage which FH
cannot match. I miss having GF&R when using AI, too. But I've
already become just as dependent upon AI's Javascript support and
Actions. Moreover, the JS advantage is compounded because the same
thing is supported in both InDesign and Acrobat.
    > You'll need to fork out wads of cash for features such
    as multiple pages, scale drawings,
And you'll find after doing so that even the most often-cited
plug-ins for those fall far short of the elegance of built-in
features. CAD Tools' treatment of custom scales looks to me like a
bitmap overlay over the AI rulers. I don't have the latest version,
but in the version I have its performance is quite poor.
On the other hand, FH's custom rulers compare rather weakly
against those in other programs, too. Just the other day, Judy, you
answered someone needing to set up a scale using microns as the UOM
with a rationalization that FH "is not a CAD program." Well, Canvas
isn't either, but the kind of scale the correspondent needed can be
set up in seconds in Canvas.
Third party plug-ins for "multiple pages" are really nothing
more than schemes to use layers or page tiling as pretentions of
multiple pages. Those who offer them just don't get it. FH's
innovative approach to multiple pages offers illustration-centric
advantages none of the AI plug-ins I've seen offer.
On the other hand, Adobe did in CS2 add a reasonable
interface for managing an array of same-size page tiles on AI's
artboard. No, it does not even come close to measuring up to FH's
versatile page handling (and I tell Adobe that at every
opportunity). But again, when it comes to the bottom line of total
productivity, an advantage in one program can compensate for an
advantage in the other. For example, it's pretty dang handy to be
able to be flipping through a multi-page PDF in Acrobat, rightClick
the page with the TouchUpObject tool, select EditPage, and have
that page open in Illustrator for editing. Make the edits, select
Save, and you are returned to the PDF in Acrobat.
    > Do your research before assuming you can easily jump to
    Illustrator.
    Always good advice.
    > Name all colors in document
    > Find & Replace color in document, page or selection
I haven't laid hands on it yet, but reading between the lines
of the new color handling in CS3, I suspect it may provide those
and more. If not exactly those, then other color handling features
which FH does not have. I, for one, will welcome the color schemes
    functionality.
    Find & Replace path shape
    > Paste Inside
I'm not sure if this has changed in CS3, but I suspect it may
have. The problem with AI's Clipping Masks is not functional, but
interface. The interface displays the edges of masked portions of
whole clipping path group when selected, and displays the whole
contents' dimensions, and performs alignments upon the whole
contents' bounds, rather than those of the clipping path. But I've
see mention of ability to align points having been added to CS3,
and it seems logical to me that some of the Clipping Mask problems
may have been addressed as part of that. Again, we'll see.
Live shape primitives - polygons, stars, etc. [including
    rounded rectangles and ellipse arcs]
Agreed. On the other hand, the ability to apply Convert To
Shape as a live effect to individual stroke or fill attributes in
the Appearance Palette is a somewhat offsetting advantage of AI.
    > Join selected path segments (requires concatonate
    plug-in)
I built a pair of Javascripts for this, which work much like
FH's Join command, but which gives me the option of whether
pre-existing outboard handles are respected. I use it every day.
Understand, this is NOT to make any excuse for the inexcusably poor
    Join command in AI.
    > Convert multiple points to curve, corner, retract
    handles, automatic handles
Judging by the screenshots of CS3, most, if not all, of that
is now provided. Yes, 20 years late, but today is what matters
    today.
    > Split paths at multiple subselected path segments
Actually, you can do that in AI, but by different means.
DirectSelect the segments instead of the points. Cut, tap Delete,
PasteInFront. For my own purposes, I wanted it to work more like
FH, so again, I wrote myself a pretty simple Javascript to just
    break selected points.
    > "Bend-o-matic" -- bend straight path segment by dragging
    with pointer
As you may recall, you're singing one of my favorite tunes
there. On the consolation side, though, selection behavior has been
altered in CS3 (something I really figured would be "holy ground",
never to be improved). According to what I read between the lines
in Teri Petit's description, the tedium of having to continually
deselect when using AI's white pointer should be aleviated in CS3.
    > Easy handling of linked images, including extract image
Like multiple pages and Collect For Output, it should be
built into AI. But for those who may not know, it's not that big a
deal to save the AI file as PDF, have it automatically launch
Acrobat, and then use Acrobat's Extract All Images command.
    > Adjustable snap and pick distances set in preferences
Has been added in CS3. Also settings for the display of
    points and handles.
    > Tiled printing with specified overlap
You can do that in CS2. It's in the Print Dialog's Setup
pane. Select Tile Whole Pages, set the desired overlap, click Done.
    Turn on View>Show Page Tiling.
    continues...

  • LR 3.3 ignores plug-ins in Modules folder on Mac

    Hello,
I put my plug-in in /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Modules as its described in docs but Lightroom ignores it. Actually it ignores any plug-ins in this folder. I can add a plug-in from this folder manually and it'll work but i need LR to do this automatically. Can i do anything to help LR recognize my plug-in or may be i need to put my plug-in to some other place?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
We are looking for a developer who is familliar with developing a plugin for Lightroom 3.
We know the SDK & API for Lightroom is a bit unique, and we want to work with someone who either has developed for Lightroom already, or someone very familiar with the process.
We would like a plug in for Lightroom 3 that creates web photo galleries.  We are not looking for something too difficult!  In fact, many plugins already exist, but none do exactly what we need.  So, we need a custom one designed for us.
The plug in should look like and work like the photo gallery plug ins already available for Lightroom, such as the standard HTML web galleries Lightroom 3 has standard, as well as the Airtight Simpleviewer plugin.  Both of these have their advantages and disadvantages.  But both are fairly flexible in what they offer, and the user can make galleries that look and behave in many ways.
Our plug in needs to avoid flash all together.  We like J Query code such as this one:
    http://www.twospy.com/galleriffic/example-2.html
The galleries should have a download option that lets the viewer download a low res, med res, or high res file.
The galleries need a search field where users can search for key words or metadata.
This is the basic idea.  We would like to develop this project right away.  Please contact us.

  • No destructive editing using installed plug-ins in the sample editor.

It is a shame that it looks like there still is no destructive editing using installed plug-ins in the sample editor. Seems very obvious to me that this feature should be included in Logic. Very disappointing. I’m assuming that you will be able to do this via Soundtrack Pro, but that’s just another layer added to the work flow.

    fermusic wrote:
in any case there are no reason to use Soundtrack pro for make a destructive editing with AU plugins.
While everything you say is absolutely correct, in terms of being able to do this within Logic itself, there are times when using Soundtrack Pro does make more sense for destructive printing of AU FX's.
High pass filtering a vocal track with a lot of plosives comes to mind. It's easier to destructively apply the AU high pass filter on just the plosive syllable, or waveform in STP, than in Logic.
Same goes for some extreme cases of De-essing.
With STP selected as your external audio editor, it's very easy to use from within Logic. The two co-exist quite gracefully.
I'd personally love to see Logic adapt some of STP's destructive capabilities, and I'd actually be surprised if we didn't see that at some point in it's evolution.
But I say none of this to dismiss what you've generously offered here. The information you provided in your first post is important for the Logic novice to be aware of.

  • Firefox 4 couldn't find compatible plugins, but didn't say in the final message, which ones it had failed to find. I've reinstalled 3.6.17. Is there a way to discover which plug-ins were lost?

I was exhorted to upgrade to Firefox 4. Believing that like most such upgrades, it would be compatible and inconsequential, I did so. Having completed installation, it told me that a couple of plug-ins were incompatible (Yahoo and another which I didn't note) and that it would search for compatible plug-ins. When it finally told me that none were available, it didn't then say which were not installed, so I had no way of going back to find out. I followe instructions on a previous question to uninstall FF4 and reinstall FF3.6.17. How can I now discover which plug-ins were lost and thus restore them?

You can set the prefs dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.* to false on the about:config page to disable the plugin-container process.
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Silverlight)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (QuickTime)
    dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Flash)
