Non-functioning iPod

My iPod (colour display model) had been working fine up until yesterday when it froze while in the middle of playing a track. A few minutes later it switched off, and when I turned it back on I could cycle through all the menus as normal, but when it came to selecting a track to play, nothing happened.
So I've had a look at the advice on the Apple Website, and I've followed the the "Rs" - but still no luck. Oddly, when I reset the iPod all the music disappeared and I was asked to select a language again (note, this was not a "restore" all all I tried was a "reset", so I was surprised when all my music went). The iPod now lets me cycle through menus, but there's no music on there to play (it also has no name).
Plugging the iPod into my iBook just makes the "do not disconnect" sign appear and it clicks and spins for ages. Eventually a window appears and I'm asked if I was to ignore or eject the disk I have connected. The iPod does not appear in the Finder or in iTunes. I have updated iTunes, and tried to use iPod Updater programme to "restore" the iPod. Interestingly, when I run the programme and connect the iPod nothing happens for ages, then I get the finder window asking me if I want to "initialise", "ignore" or "eject" the disk. When this happens, and the iPod Updater application is running it tells me my iPod's serial number (so it must know it's there!) and let's me select "restore iPod." However, this just brings up the spinning style progress bar... that never progresses and just freezes like that.
What else can I do? What's up with my poor little iPod and how can I get it working again? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

It gets weirder.
Out of frustration I reset my iPod again yesterday (despite the fact that it currently showed I had no music on the iPod and it would not connect to my Mac). After the reset, ALL my music had magically returned to the iPod as if it had never left. However, I could still not play any music. Selecting a track just made the iPod freeze.
I then connected the iPod to my iBook, where it was recognised, and appeared to sync okay with iTunes. However, with it still obviously not functioning correctly, I 'restored' the iPod using the iPod Updater application. This time it didn't freeze and did appear to restore my iPod to original settings. All music was lost again and iTunes reloaded everything back on to the iPod again.
I naïvely thought everything might now be fixed. But oh no! I selected and album and pressed play- whereby the iPod froze for a while, then skipped the first track and then played as normal for a few tacks before freezing again. Now I'm back where I started. When I try to connect the iPod to the iBook it is not recognised again. Nothing happens for a long while, the iPod clicks and whirs. Eventually a finder window asks me if i want to 'initialise' 'ignore' or 'eject' the disk I have connected. The iPod Updater only freezes if I try to use it to restore the iPod.
Any suggestions people? This is just bizarre now.

If you mean the Apple recycling plan, it is actually not run by Apple, but by a 3rd party recycling company. They would be the ones to make the decision on how much you would get for your device. Non-functional devices are not worth a whole lot though, so you should not expect much from them.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on my system, when I started iTunes the USB2 ports failed to recognize any attached hardware (mouse, iPod memory sticks, etc.) I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for my mouse and upgraded iTunes. I have gone through removing the "USB Roots Hub" and then scanned for new hardware. The USB Root Hub's were recognized and show they are working properly. I have also done a recovery to a date prior to this problem, but the USB ports are still non-functional. Any ideas?

This is the BIOS problem!!! I'm experienced the same problem with an usb hdd. Unfortunately the newest BIOS was faulty I guess so it's been removed. You can't do anything until a new BIOS will be released but it might take months...
I'm able to connect some devices over an usb hub and reinsert cca 2x or 3x that usb hdd to get it work.

The system installed fine, but the on-board Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet is non-functional. I've tried both the Broadcom bcme driver and the Sun bge driver, plus I've installed the latest patches from Sunsolve (118844-30, 122028-02) with no luck. The system finds the card and appears to receive packets but not send.
Is there any way I can report a bug without a Support Contract from Sun?
The card is an on-board PCI-E chip and works fine under Linux 2.6 or Windows Server 2003. The PCI ID is pci11e4,1677 which is listed in /etc/driver_aliases for the latest (patched) bge driver.
One other detail are the following messages from the bge driver on load:

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

DVD Drive Non-Function Mac Mini 3,1 (late 2009)

The DVD drive in my Mac Mini has recently become non-functional, "About this Mac" sees the drive fine,

But when you insert a disc there is no response, it does not see to attempt to read it just ejects after about 20-30 seconds.
Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? This issue started sometime after I upgraded the memory, but I cannot be sure that the two things are connected as I very rarely use the DVD drive and the first time I tried to use it was several months later.

How can I include "None" functionality in a LOV

I am trying to setup the ability to set a value to null in a Popup LOV giving my users the None functionality. This is the SQL I use to ccreate the LOV:

when I select the None from the list and try to create the record I receive:

You are right I am trying to insert a NULL into a number column. When I add a row and do not put a value in this column it is ok because the column is defined to allow nulls. If I put a value in this column and later want to change the value nothing (NULL) is when I have the problem. I could create a None value for all my LOV and use it but I would rather just remove the value from the column and leave it NULL.

System Preference Panes non-functional (some)

I am "fixing" a friends MacBook Pro as a favour, and she's getting exactly what she paid for. It may be a few years old - not sure. It's running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, but I'm putting it in this more general section because it may not be SL-specific.
A few of the System Preferences panes don't work. A message comes up which simply says "non-functional" or something like that. Specifically, the ones whcih don't work are:
Desktop and ScreenSaver
Spotlight
Energy Saver
Background: she forgot her password, and this is on a computer which was formerly someone else's. I couldn't even get the thing to the login screen, so something else was wrong besides her password, but I had her gray Snow Leopard installation disks, so got through the re-install process, made a new User for myself, as Administrator, and was then delighted to find that all of her data was still intact. I had to add myself in to the permissions on her UserID. I made a new user for her as well, because we still didn't have her own original password, and I looked around but couldn't find it. I copied all of her data over to her new UserID.
I also did all Updates, plus tried a 10.6.8. combo update.
Then I made an error. The former owners UserID was also still there. We couldn't log on as her either, without her password, but I figured that we didn't need that anymore, checked with the current owner first, and deleted the original User (and renamed the computer). I cannot reconstruct in my mind whether the System Preferences panes malfunction occurred before or after deleting the original User.
There is other minor wonkiness, but basically the machine is running and the data has been preserved (and now backed up). But one thing at a time: I've reinstalled the OS a couple of times, without improvement. I tried to upgrade to Mavericks, but after downloading, it told me that this computer could not be upgraded (without saying why not).
I haven't found any plist files which look relevant. I did more 2 of them out of HD-Library-Preferences, without any effect, so put them back. I find the Preference Panes in System-Library-PreferencePanes, but didn't see anything to do about that. The offending panes look like they're at least present.
Is there something simple I'm missing? Can I get those panes back?

Macbook pros need to be at least 2009 for 13" and 2007 for 15" and 17" to run Mavericks. see system requiements.
At this point, the easiest solution will be to make your backups current, then wipe the drive and do a clean install of the system. That means more work reinstalling the backed-up data (you only want to restore data and third-party apps, not any of the system components), but it makes sure you get a clean, working copy of the system.

Home Page Search Is Non-Functional / Not Possible to Restore Previous Session

After the latest update (to version 29), Firefox's default home page search bar has been completely non-functional. Whether I type enter or press Search, nothing happens. Another (possibly related) problem is that the "Restore Previous Session" button is never present. I also cannot restore the previous session by clicking on the History option (it is always greyed out).

I had this and other problems with v29. But after a while everything was working
again, I hope. BTW;

Wired interface non-functional

So I have a most unusual problem with a mac mini server that is driving me banana's that I hope someone in the Apple community has run into, and found a decent solution..
The mac mini (2.3GHz quad core i7, late 2012) is running 10.9 and server 3.0.1. I did an upgrade from 10.8 (and whatever the previous version server was)..
Since then the wired ethernet interface (en0) literally stopped working. (Links up, but no connectivity.. no ping, it does not even send an ARP)
Data points about the problem.
- It worked flawlessly up until the upgrade to 10.9.
- wireless interface is still fine, static or dhcp.
- The IP is statically configured via System preferences - Network.
- ifconfig in terminal show NO IPADDRESS assigned to the interface.
- if I reconfigure the interface to DHCP, it will not receive an IP and ends up with an APIPA address..
- if I go into terminal and 'ifconfig en0 down' then 'ifconfig en0 <IP> up' the interface works again until restart. It will also correctly display the IP in terminal.
- If I reset, it goes back into this same state (network preferences shows proper config, ifconfig does not, and the interface is non functional)
- If I then go to cli, and manually ifconfig down then up, all is good again.. Doing so from system prefs has no affect..
Here is where it gets really interesting, and why I am convinced this is a software issue.. I did a clean install of 10.9 and Server on an external USB disk, and things work exactly as expected if I boot from that Volume.. If I boot from the internal drive, Its in the broken state again..
This absolutelty tells me its some kind of software issue, and I am out of ideas short of wiping the internal drive, and reloading all the data from scratch..
Anyone else run into this? If yes, were you able to fix it without wiping/reloading?

I'd delete the interface & recreate it.
In 'System Preferences > Network tab' select the ethernet, click the - button. Then add it again. Reboot & see if it has any effect.
- Had no affect.. More accurately, it works the same as doing ifconfig down/up in cli, where the interface will work again until the next reboot.
See what appears in Console (Spotlight search for it) in the 'All messages" section when you remove connect the ethernet.
- Log messages are below.. Interestingly, I do not get the failure messages that I have highlighted in red on another machine that is is also running 10.9, with server loaded.

Have you tried changing the port on the switch it is connected to?
- Yes, for ease of testing I have it plugged directly into my MacBook Pro (I also tried new cable first )

Again, booting the machine from a clean install on a USB disk, does not show the issue.. I’ve got a lot of data on the machine, so I am doing anything I can to avoid wiping and reloading it all.. Ive added the output of etrecheck, in case its of any help.

K8N Neo4 (MS-7125) USB, Mic, S/P Out, and LAN ports all non-functional

I'm hoping someone can give me a hand with this. I'm not a novice when it comes to motherboards but this particular board is making me feel like it.
Ok, I've got a K8N-Neo4 MS-7125 model. Athlon64 3700. I have all the current drivers and ran the liveupdate to make sure.
The LAN port will light up, but the Device manager will not recognize it, nor will the LAN utility.
The board has 4 USB ports. The top two are non-functional, the bottom two work.
The S\P OUT port has never worked, nor do I know how to engage it or find it on the device manager
The microphone....this one is fun. Its like the microphone is stuck in a feedback loop. Whatever comes through my speakers, is heard on the other end by other users. I am not heard at all, although I can hear myself through my OWN speakers. Even with the mic unplugged, people still can hear my speakers. Imagine having your speakers plugged into the mic jack. The only way to kill the feedback is to actually go into the sound manager and mute the whole mic system.
I can live without the LAN and USB ports, but it would be a HUGE help if someone can help me with the mic and S\P ports!!

As for the flavor of the NEO4 the only other numbers I know of, is on the board it says N1996 right below the processor. Is that what you need? Its a PCB V.3 board nvidia Nforce4.

This particular case allows for hookups for headphones and mic in the front. The case has jumpers in the back that allow you to gain access from the front (but you probably already know that). I've always used the front MIC/Headset jack, and I have a splitter in the back for the headphones and that jumper. In trying to resolve the issue, I tried every jack with the microphone (even the ones that I know are labeled as speakers). I do get my own voice through MY speakers on the front jack AND the mobo jack.

I'm having a little trouble understanding the part about your password having to be reset. Why is that happening??
Let's start with Firefox's settings:
(1) You can configure the password manager feature on this tab:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security
There is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature.
There also is a "Saved Passwords" button to review and remove any passwords you do not want Firefox to keep.
That tab also has a feature to set a Master Password so that no one can use your saved passwords without knowing the Master Password. You may need to exit Firefox in order for Firefox to ask for that again.

GL: Import Journal only accept those non-functional currency

I have tried to run import journal using Oracle General Ledger. However, I found that there is always an error 'EC08 - Invalid currency code' when the records contains functional currency code, e.g. HKD. For all other currencies, like JPY, i.e. non-functional currency, the import journal can then be completed successfully. Hi,
I have tried to run import journal using Oracle General Ledger. However, I found that there is always an error 'EC08 - Invalid currency code' when the records contains functional currency code, e.g. HKD. For all other currencies, like JPY, i.e. non-functional currency, the import journal can then be completed successfully. Kindly please explain how to import journal successfully from the data containing the functional currency, like HKD in the Oracle General Ledger module. Many Thanks.
