Non-genuine charger - dangerous?

I bought a desktop cradle for my N95 8GB off of Ebay, and it works well. My only concern is that the charger it comes with is not a genuine Nokia product, and obviously I don't want to fry my battery.
It charges normally, and when full the phone says "battery full". What I want to know is, is the over-charging protection located in the phone or the charger? The phone obviously detects that it's full, does it then dispose of the incoming voltage appropriately or is this normally (i.e. with a genuine charger) dropped by the charger itself when it detects a certain level of voltage on the phone's battery (i.e. its full)?
I am pretty sure the phone would take care of this, but I want to make sure my phone isn't sitting there with excess voltage hurting the battery while I'm in the office all day...
Thanks
Yage

I'm pretty sure it's the charger itself (Genuine Charger), But i'm not sure about the charger you've bought.

  • 'unsupported' error on genuine charger cables

    Hey,
Just wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing this problem! I haven't done the 7.1.2 update, but mine and my boyfriends phone stopped accepting non-genuine chargers last week. Now, my phone is trying to tell me that my two genuine charger cables are also unsupported. I'm swiftly running out of battery and I haven't found a way around this and I'm afraid ill be totally uncontactable come tomorrow.
can anyone shed some light or give me a fix? I've tried the whole unlock, unplug, plug back in dismiss, unplug, plug back in thing.. it works for about 30 seconds. Apple were totally unhelpful when I tried to chat to them. I know my phone and cables aren't faulty, as my ipad, my boyfriends phone and a friends iphone are all suddenly having the same problem!
    Much thanks,
    Kasey.

Inspect the charging port area for dirt/debris/fluff build-up that may be preventing a good connection and use a wooden toothpick, soft clean toothbrush, or a can of compressed air to clean it. Also look for bent or broken pins. Try another cable and/or charger block (be sure to always use a genuine Apple certified brand) in a known good outlet. If you're using a USB port, try another port. If you're using a hub, try a direct connection. If you're using a USB port in the front of a desktop computer, try one in the back. If all these fail, make an appointment at your nearest Genius Bar to have the device evaluated.

The fix is to log into your current account. Go to appleid.apple.com and change the primary email and apple id back to the old email address (doesn't matter if you have it any longer). Once the change is made, then enter your password for that account on the device. Once you get in, go ahead and go back to appleid.apple.com and change it back. That fixed mine.

  • Where can I get help with partitioning my hard drive? I have a "non-genuine" version of windows that I need to replace but I have not a clue how to go about doing that.

I love my mac, but I unfortunately have to also run windows because of engineering software. I bought windows 7 at my campus computre store and one year later my computer is telling me that my software is "non-genuine." I need to fix this asap, but my computer store refuses to do anything because a year has passed. Microsoft wont help because I have a Mac.
My question is, where can I go to find someone who can help me uninstall the "non-genuine" windows 7 and replace it with a functional one?
Im allowed a free download of windows 7 because I'm still a student, but I have no clue how to go about uninstalling and reinstalling windows.
    Thanks a bunch.

    Hello,
This kind of question is best asked in the Windows Forums, however I've had some succession with a similar issue myself.
Non-Genuine Windows means that it can't authenticate your copy of Windows.
It's not a problem, all your need is a genuine product key code. Provided you don't have different version of Windows 7 installed to the one you are buying (for example windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 business) Then you can use the new key code.
Click on the Start Button and type: CMD (into the 'Search programs and files' field in the Start Menu)
The Start Menu will show 'CMD.exe',
Right-click the CMD.exe file and select Run As Administrator.
In the CMD window, type: slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
To activate windows after changing the key, type: slmgr.vbs -ato
It should now accept the new key code and you will need to be connected to the Internet to authenticate.
If by chance the windows 7 types are different (One is Home premium say and the other is Business) then you will need to uninstall that copy of Windows 7 and install the new one. If your using BootCamp then you will need to go into BootCamp under system preferences and remove that copy of Windows (delete it)
Then create a new setup with your new Windows 7 disk.
For me I had the same type of windows, changing the product code worked. Saved me the bother of having to reinstall Windows again and it was all genuine.
    Best of luck

  • Is it bad to use a non apple charger to charge my macbook air?

I just ordered a replacement charger on eBay and realized that it was a non apple charger, is it bad to still use it?

    Yes!!
I recommend not using it.  Recall that some iPhone fires were actually started by using non-approved iPhone chargers.

  • Is it safe to use a non-Apple charger?

I ordered a non-Apple charger and asked the seller if there was any risks and he told me no because the debit is the good one (not sure what it is, maybe he was talking about the volts?) and it is certified CE. So is it okay?

Not sure if you would consider it a risk, but there have been deaths associated with the use of non-Apple chargers and devices. That is what has lead Apple to make the statement, and also to work at making it difficult for non-Apple chargers, or non-certified cables from working on Apple devices.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Why won't iPod 4th Generation Click Wheel 40gb (non-photo)  charge?

I have an old but much-loved iPod 4th Generation Click Wheel 40gb (non-photo model) that I keep on a charging dock. Yesterday the screen went blank and it refuses to charge, so I assume the battery is dead.
Can anyone tell me if that's the reason?  If so, exactly what replacement battery I should get?  I've found replacement batteries listed for the iPod 4th Gen 40 GB photo and the 4th Gen 20 GB, but don't know if they'll fit.  Thanks so much for any information out there!

    hmm - curiouser and curiouser
I've now managed to get it to manually update (after iTunes took 100% of system resources and I had to force quit it...) but that still doesn't really help me with the auto-sync feature which still won't work

  • Non DD charges

Ok today I was stuck in a meeting and Non Direct debit charges were brought up and it got me to thinking
If you pay quarterly Bt demand the money within 1 working week of the email(paperless billing) However for that 1 Payment you are charged 3 months worth of processing charges. (non automatic payment plan)
So I checked with a few people and they said I should ask why bt is actively charging 3 processing fees while demanding a quaterly non auto payment plans payment within 1 working week in full. as thats one singular payment with 3 processing fees?

Yup thats why i refuse to pay in advance and given all the errors bt have made i wont sent a DD up as i got to a point they had near £200 because they were drawing the wrong payments. however its one of a few questions and bad practices bt seem to keep avoiding trying to answer. As of today I have been speaking to a consumer affairs television show regarding this matter as they are doing another false direct debit charges show, and this fits right in.
1: Billing is actually safer to have paper bills as bt have gone against standards and made their online bills have only 1 working week to pay within receipt of the bill before they charge a late payment fee AND a disconnection fee the former standard (even on old bt paperless bills confirmed by checking) was 2 working weeks.
2: The bill is demanded in 1 singular payment or you receive charges of £19.50 , so why Is bt charging 3 processing charges when they demand and then penalise you if you do not pay 1 lump sum within 1 working week. Your left with a choice a £19.50 penalty OR 2 falsely charged "payment processing fees" on top of the one for the singular payment.

  • Anyone using a non-Apple charging dock?

I returned the Apple charging dock because I didn't like it--too wobbly, and too hard to take the iPad out of it w/o lifting up the dock too. I've seen a few non-Apple docks on eBay and amazon, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with other docks?

Sorry, but TM will not work with third-party NAS - only Time Capsule.
    Requirements to use Time Machine
Time Machine is only available with Leopard (10.5.x)
    1. External FireWire or USB 2.0 drive
    2. Time Capsule
    3. Drive shared by a Mac running 10.5 or later using File Sharing
    4. Drive shared by a Mac running 10.5 Server
    5. SAN volume managed by Apple's Xsan file system
A TM drive must be partitioned with either APM (PPC) or GUID (Intel) and formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
An Airport Extreme Base Station with a USB drive connected to it can be used with TM but it is not supported by Apple.

  • Can you factory reset a laptop with a non genuine Windows 7?

A few years ago, my mother bought a laptop for a pretty good price from some guy. After a few days, it gave her a message that Windows 7 on that laptop was not genuine. Then I started using it and downloaded a program to get rid of the message and allow me to set pictures as my background. The laptop, over time, became slow and the memory was quickly being used (only because there was no antivirus on it and it barely had any memory). I gave it to my cousin, and my mother asked for money for it.
As I was ridding the laptop of all the useless programs it would no longer need, the thought of factory resetting never crossed my mind. Today, I thought of it, and I was wondering if it's possible to factory reset a laptop that doesn't have a genuine Windows. Or would it mess it up? As soon as my cousin gets another charger for it, I wanted to try it out and see if that would speed the laptop up by a lot and make it feel brand new. Or would Windows be gone or ask for an activation code?

Just so no viewers get confused, it's the 9 GB partition that contains the recovery image. So if you don't have that big one, you can't restore from the disk.
The 1.46 GB partition is marked Active because it has the boot files. It also contains the recovery environment. (Microsoft likes to name the partition with Windows the Boot partition, but it doesn't have the boot files.)

  • Can non-apple charger damage the battery?

    Hi,
I see a bunch of chargers on the market. Some are from reputable sources like Belkin. All these different chargers have different specifications but say they are compatible with iPhone, etc. It almost seems like if the charger has a USB plug, then it's claimed to be compatible with iPhone, etc.
However, I read here and there that Apple has a proprietary charging mechanism, which charges differently than your regular USB plug. Is that true?
It seems weird to pay $19 for a plug (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter) , especially when things like these are available:
    http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen%C2%AE-2-4-Amp-Charger-Designed-Android/dp/B0073FC PSK
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KVCLDJE?psc=1
So, am I safe buying these other products and charging my iPhone 6 with those? Is there any downside of doing this? Will this ruin or lessen the life of the iPhone battery?
I also wanted to buy this for my house:
    http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-SurgePlus-6-Outlet-Mount-Protector/dp/B00ATZJ606
, but again, I am not sure if just because they claim it's compatible with iPhone, it's not going to damage the battery because it may send too high of a current or something like that.
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -YC.

Can you suggest any? I see a lot of cables that are certified by Apple, but I don't see any wall chargers that are certified by Apple.
The main question I have is: does the charger matter or not or is it only the cable that matters? One charger maybe better than another, but do any of them actually have the potential to lessen the life of the battery or damage it in some other way?
    Thanks,
    -YC.

  • Non-genuine components in apple store iphone.

    Hello,
Here is my situation. My phone worked perfectly fine till yesterday but went black all of a sudden for no apparent reason. I took it to the nearest apple store and they diagnosed a defective screen. However that isn't my biggest problem.
When the opened the phone they found some components like screws and cables to be non authentic. I feel like I have been given a phone that has been compromised, causing me unfair problems. I do not think I deserve to pay 139.00 $ for the screen repair.
Does anyone know how I should proceed ?
    Thanks

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I haven't taken my phone anywhere before today. The supervisor was willing to repair it for the out of warranty price (139$)  even if it was tampered because he felt bad for me. However, I find it unfair that I need to pay the repair because the defect is caused by a non-authentic component that was put in my phone by them.
Actually, the main factor that determines that the device repair will cost money is the fact that you are outside of your warranty.  Whether or not there was 'tampering', if you're outside of warranty, then you do NOT get free service or repairs.
Normally, if there was tampering, the the answer is, "No service options are available, period."
In this case, apparently you've been extremely lucky and found an Apple rep that is willing to ignore that rule (which is usually a hard and fast, unbreakable rule), and is offering a service option for you... or you've misunderstood what they said about the device.
In other words, if the device has been 'tampered' with, there should be NO service options.  But you've been given the option that would normally apply if there was no tampering:  You are outside of warranty, so you may choose to pay the OOW screen replacement fee.
In essence, they are treating it as if your iPhone was never tampered with, and offering you the normal option for being outside of warranty.
You should take it and run with it.  You are being offered exactly what any other person in your situation (ignoring the 'tampering') would be offered.  No more, no less.
