Non-itunes/ipod TV out

My iPhone is NOT Jailbroken.
I have been trying some of the various file sharing apps to store/transfer video files. These can generally play m4v videos, but so far my experience has been that I can't get these to play via TV out using the Apple composite cables. They continue to play on the iPhone. If I transfer these same video files to my computer itunes library and then sync so that the videos show up in the iphone ipod app, they can be played via TV out.
So what I am looking for is a way to transfer m4v files to the iphone over a network without syncing and be able to play them via TV out. I'm not looking for streaming video. I have tried using air sharing and an app called Disk which links up to my iDisk, but even though these use the iPhone media player to play the videos, TV out won't work. Does TV Out only work with ipod App/itunes?
Thanks

That was my assumption. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to following is also "No", but is there anyway to transfer an m4v file from one of the file sharing apps into the iphone itunes library without syncing? So it's already on the iphone and I want to move it to the itunes library so that I can play it via TV out. Or any other way to get it off a network into the itunes library without syncing. I think there is no way without jailbreaking.

  • #1: Hundreds of non-itunes songs no longer play on laptop or iPod Touch! #2: How to recover music from a broken laptop to put it on my new one?

Old problem that has never been figured out: I had hundreds of songs on my old laptop before itunes, some of them downloads from years ago and some of them ripped from CDs. After getting an ipod touch a few years ago, I put all 900 and some of the old songs plus new ones purchased from itunes on the ipod and played them for a long time (year or 2 probably?). Now, all of the sudden the non-itunes songs are grey on my computer AND ipod, and I am not able to click on them or play them. Why is this?
New problem that I will be severely p1ssed off about if it can't be resolved: Previously mentioned laptop with all of the music on it stopped working, so I purchased a new laptop and now, the only songs that show up in my newly downloaded itunes are the purchased ones. No music from old downloads, no music from CD's, and no playlists created on my old computer. Only a list of the songs that I purchased directly from itunes. I no longer have all the CD's that funded my 950+ song collection and have no way of getting that music (or the downloaded music) back if I can't access the broken laptop. What do I do now?!

  • Charging Ipod battery on non-Itunes computer

Can I listen to my Ipod while charging it on a non-Itunes computer? Haven't been able to do it yet.

Well you should be able to charge your iPod on any computer with a USB port. Are you able to do that? I don't know the answer about being able to listen to it at the same time. I have never had a need to do that. Perhaps someone else knows the answer. It might be a matter of configuring the iPod so when plugged in, allows you still to access the thing, like having it so it is in manual update instead of automatic update or something along those lines where the auto-update feature might be locking you out while it searches for the iTunes it is supposed to sync up with.

I am having trouble with my iPod 5th gen after iOS update. It's in recovery mode and iTunes keeps timing out when I try to restore it. What should I do??? If possible, I would also like to keep all of my data.

    Troubleshooting
As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. This procedure is similar to rebooting a computer and damages none of your music or data.

  • Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Nope.  Both require iTunes on a computer to sync music from.
Unless the iPod is an iPod Touch and the music was bought from iTunes.  In which case the Touch can simply go to the iTunes App, under Purchased  and download the purchased songs for free.

  • How do I find an audio file that I put on an iPod from a non-iTunes software?

I'm talking about on the iPod itself, not looking at the folders when it is connected to the computer.
I've put some audio files, podcasts and songs, that transfered from a non-iTunes podcast aggregator and songs that weren't in my iTunes library, but could not find them on the actual iPod device.  This, despite the files showing up on the device when looking at a list of files on computer screen once I connect to a computer.
Asked this a few times now, and never got an answer.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here?

    - Only iTunes purchases will copy from iPod to computer.
    - If you sync manually and do not specify those modified songs to sync they will not sync to the iPod nor will the original version be deleted from the iPod
    - If you sync automatically and include those songs or select the modified songs to sync manually, the songs in the iPod should be replaced with the modified songs. However sometimes that does not happen

  • How do i get my music off my ipod touch and on to my new itune account with out losing my music

how do i get my music off my ipod touch and on to my new itune account with out losing my music

Transfer the iTunes folder from your old computer to your new computer. It's in your My Music >> iTunes folder. You'll probably need an external hard drive to do this. Make sure you upgrade the old and the new computers to the latest iTunes before transferring your music to the new machines.

  • HT204053 if i synch iPOD to iCLOUD and have songs stored in iPOD that were not purchased from iTUNES i assume a synch to the cloud will erase my non iTUNES songs? i tried this last year & this happened already & forced me to reload many songs. any solutio

i have music purchased on my computer that is from rhapsody & napster in addition to what i bought from iTUNES. if i synch to the cloud i assume i will lose my other non iTUNES music if i synch my iPOD and computer to iCLOUD? this already happened to me last year and forced me to reload from CDs my other non iTUNES songs back into my computer! anyone know a way around this dilemma? my computer now has almost 900 songs & i fear if i synch my iPOD to my computer and synch to iCLOUD i will get a repeat of losing my non iTUNES songs once again! i have not turned on my iPOD or synced it to my computer for many months! huge hassle to recopy songs from CD & maybe it is best to sign into iCLOUD to back up my newly purchased songs and then exit iCLOUD and then synch my iPOD to my computer and then synch without going into the iCLOUD scenario? i do not know and really need help on this. please answer in simple terms?

I had this problem too after i upgdatd to OS X Mavericks... only the songs on my iphone 5s that i purchased from itunes would play.
i read something about it being a syncing issue. when you plug your phone into your computer with the usb cable, the person said to switch from automatic syncing of itunes to the "manual" option. mine was already set to manual so i wasn't sure anything would work. BUT, when i plugged my phone into my computer, it started to sync all of my music on my phone again (top of itunes bar where song playing/time is listed said "now syncing 123/534 songs to x's iphone"). once that was completed, i checked the music app on my iphone and everything was back to normal!
so, i would suggest setting your music syncing settings to manual if you haven't tried that yet!
    hope this helps!

    Hello cgbuehling
You can, but only the purchases that were made from the iTunes Store. Other content that was imported from a CD or other sources will not transfer over.

  • HT1386 ipod timed out, can't sync with itunes

Help! I can't sync my iPod with iTunes.  I get an error message saying my iPod timed out.  What is going on?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reboot the computer
    - Try another cable and USB port
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Try on another computer
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
