Non iWeb Slideshows

Finally got my head around non iWeb slideshows, I would appreciate feedback, comments or criticism.
http://www.ardswe.com

I like those slideshows. You menu on the right side of the pages is cut off a bit, one character in the portfolio and slideshow links. Portfolio is portofli with the o one the next line. This is with Safari 3. Firefox displays it fine.
What did you use for the slideshows?

  • IWeb and non-iWeb files @ same site?

I have modified my CNAME at my personal domain site to forward to MobileMe, and I am not having any problems with that aspect. What I am wondering is ... can I have both iWeb files and non-iWeb files at the same site and still use MobileMe?
Basically, I want to use iWeb for my main family web site, but still have my Wordpress blog as well as some older web pages that I don't want to convert to iWeb. Right now, anything that starts with my domain name is pointed to MobileMe, which precludes access to the non-iWeb files.
Not sure if this is clear or not, but if anyone has any pointers, I would be very grateful.

Thanks for the advice about putting the other files on MobileMe - I didn't know you could host non-iWeb pages there.
Unfortunately, I actually don't want to store them there. My Wordpress blog is hosted on my own server (it's not a wordpress.com blog), and my old files are large and I don't want to burn up all the space on MobileMe. I have a ton of space and other good hosting services as my provider (doteasy). I do, however, like the features of iWeb for my main family page, so I want to be able to publish to MobileMe, but still have the domain function as well, with some pages accessible only through the domain, not MobileMe.

  • More iweb slideshow reflection questions...

    Hi,
I also want to get rid of the reflection in iWeb slideshows. I have searched and found the instructions on how to fix this through "terminal". Only problem is that I don't understand how terminals work. Can someone please explain it to me? I tried and it felt a lot like advanced programming!
    Thanks,
    S

I'm not sure which instructions you have found, but here is a tutorial written by Will Englefield on the topic of removing reflections from the Apple enhanced slideshows. I've looked through it and it seems that all that is required is a text editor....no terminal work! Have a look....
    How 2 remove reflections
    Good luck!

  • Lost iWeb Slideshow icons

I have updated the slideshow content of my iweb site and for some reason have lost the navigation (back|pause|next) icons that go with the slideshow. They have been replaced with the ubiquitous "?" icons. Is there a way to restore these icons?
    Thank you.

This is a result of MobileMe closing. The images were stored on the Apple server.
See this page for info about how to fix it...

  • IWeb slideshows not showing...Safari only?

During the last few days, when I check out iWeb slideshows I have created for my school using my Safari browser, the photos aren't displayed.
All I see on my Mac is the "Play Slideshow" graphic and the number of pages are shown but nothing more. The "Play Slideshow" graphic is not active or clickable at all.
The slideshows work fine in other browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox but not Safari? (see 2 pics below)
I get the same result whether the site is FTP'd or hosted on MobileMe.
Works on everything but my Safari but works with Safari on other computers???
I have reset Safari but still get same result.
Not sure what to try next.
Attached pics show Safari screen and Google screen.....note no pics on Safari screen????
    Thanks for any suggestions!!!!

Went by Apple Store to get some Genius help.....
Did a few different things suggested like logging in under different acct....same problem!
Started up in Safe Mode....same problem!
Then read in one of these threads about problems being caused by running in 32-bit mode.
Quit Safari, unchecked 32-bit mode in info window and restarted Safari and what do you know????
Those slide shows now show up!!!!
Thanks to all who had suggestions!

  • Iweb slideshow

Is there a way to change the background color in iweb slideshow to black without posting it to a .mac account.
    thanks

    Hey there,
welcome to the Apple iWeb Discussion Forums!
Select the photopage, open the inspector, go to the Photos tab and then click on Slideshow.
At the bottom of the slideshow tab there's "Page Background" there you can select Black as the color for slideshows.
    Regards,
    Cédric
Sorry just noticed you posted the question in the iWeb '06 Forum... I don't know if it's the same for iWeb '06 I never used it sorry...

  • IWeb slideshow: thumbnails intrude on photo

    HI all.
I created an iWeb slideshow, but the band of thumbnails at the top runs on top of the large image. Looks awful, and I can't show this to colleagues. Any idea on how to format the photo files so that they appear full frame? Thanks for your help, Mac folks.
    Loren

are you talking about the .Mac iweb slideshow? the lines of photos only appears when you have your mouse over it!
or in the photo page the collection of photos is running over another photo? then just move the box around!

  • How are non iWeb sites able to use non "web-safe fonts?

I know there is a list of "x" number of "web-safe fonts" that we should stick to. However, we all see incredible fonts all over the internet on non iWeb sites.
What is it that makes the non-safe fonts work for them. Is there anything we can do to make those fun fonts work for us? I don't have specific examples (sorry). . .just looking for a general answer
    Thanks,
    roxpat

The type of file compression to use for web pages is dictated by the number of colors required. Since graphics slow down a web site, your mission is to get the best overall appearance, with the smallest file sizes. The most popular forms of graphic compression are .gif and .jpg
.gif files are limited to 256 colors which work very well for non-photo types of graphics (logo's, etc) and .gif also supports transparency, where you can actually make a graphic appear to be 'cut-out' against a different color background. Gradients do not work well with .gif files.
.jpg files are more suitable for photo's due to the thousands or even millions of shades of colors in skin tones, vegetation, whatever. Jpg's do not support transparency or animation.
Photoshop Elements would be a very good program to pick as an overall web and photo retouching program. The "Save For Web" feature is sweet. You can even continue to use iPhoto to manage your photo library and choose a program like Photoshop as an 'External Editor' to actually work on the pictures.
Adobe Illustrator is probably not where you want to start. There is a learning curve to work with shapes (vectors) instead of actual dots on a page, and it's native format is not compatible with any web browsers. It's really not suitable for photo's at all. It is very powerful when working with commercial graphics that need to be sharp at all sizes, but probably more than you want to deal with.

  • IWeb Slideshows

1 year ago I bought a new imac and iWeb. I've made about 10 sites.
The slideshows look great on my iMac. They are anout 630px wide with a nice reflection.
BUT!! on my PC, they suck. I tried to show someone my art work on the their PC, I was shocked. The images appear no bigger than matchboxes surrounded by a huge amount of black. I have a newish PC and it's just the same.
Does anyone else out there have the same problem?
I uploaded my pics to Flickr, dropped the code... success ... until I discovered
you can only have three set without going pro .... so no good for me.
Slide.com .... no end out unrelated advertising ... useless for my website
Myspace, well, their slideshows now autostart, not way of stopping them, no controls .... and they have annoying rounded corners which are getting very fashionable which I don't like ...
    Anyone any advice?

    Dear kim plygeaw,
Alancito posted "Re: iWeb Slideshows" in "iWeb Slideshows" on Nov 28, 2008 1:39:02 AM.
Kim ~ The slideshows on your Flickr account are so much bigger and better than the slideshows on your iWeb site. So why not either hyperlink to your Flickr slideshows or embed your Flickr slideshows in your iWeb site? You are already familiar with Flickr slideshows, but for other forum readers who perhaps are not, here are some details...
Before clicking on the hyperlinked thumbnail below, note that mouse-over of the slideshow page will display many options — including a full-screen button at lower right. The viewer can pause the slideshow (button at lower left) and then click on the thumbnails in any order...
Click to open slideshow in new window
It's also possible to embed the slideshow into your web page via iWeb's HTML Snippet window — see this article: Flickr's slideshows get cinematic, viral. Notice that the sample embedded slideshow there, once playing, also shows the full-screen button at lower right. And clicking it doesn't take you out from the current window/tab — it simply goes into full-screen mode (and hitting the Escape key exits that mode).
By the way, Flickr's maximum pixel size is 1024. You can submit larger, but they'll be compressed and resized by Flickr. See this FAQ.
I have just spent a good while getting nowhere logging in here, finally got into my account, phew!:
Tks for the message and have posted Alancito's message above that didn't show up.
I started out with high hopes at Flickr, I could post their fabulous networking slideshows onto my iWeb page, add related videos too from YouTube which play many times faster than my better quality but internet sticky Quicktime vids, and so on, music from playlist.com sound effects and so on making the slideshows have a contextual setting on each webpage.
BUT, the crunch came at Flickr when I discovered you can only make 3 album sets on the free account, therefore only 3 separate slideshows, DAM! The only way round it is to go Pro for unlimited. As I have currently 2 iWeb hostings, I'm not in the mood to keep adding more expense.
Sooooo, the solution for me: I went over to Gmail 'Pica. Their slideshows are good, I customize the code so say at 800px wide I go down 800px instead of 566px for the vertical pics get as much TLC as the horizontal . You can change the code to make them any size like YouTube videos and with an autostart option which myspace doesn't have. There's no advertising at the end like Photobucket and Slide.com and a nice piece of software that's for mac so you can drag and drop pics to upload update the shows.
They also behave well on old PC's!
    http://picasa.google.com/
I started out making my sites with iWeb to add a professional edge to my free networking sites, I didn't even link to them. I feel a little foolish now as that's were the people are, and so now I'm mixing them all together. There needs for people to leave a networking site to go to a private website, and vise versa, and I'm still working on that. I've very surprisingly had 45,000 hits on a rather modest YouTube this past 6 months, a small account with 90 short videos, how to get that traffic over to my website is my next project! So the slideshows and websites better mean something more than they get on free networking sites and not be an anti-climax

  • Can I import a non-iWeb website into iWeb?

How can I import a non-iWeb website into iWeb so that I can use iWeb to edit the site?

You can't: iWeb cannot import html files, and relies entirely on its own 'Domain' file which lives by default in your User Library. You would have to recreate the site from scratch, using the original as a guide and a source for images and text; or use an HTML editor.
Depending on how complicated the site is you may be able to do this in Kompozer, which is free. It is a WYSIWYG web page created which also gives you access to the code, and which can open any HTML page (though if the page is heavily dependent on external CSS you may have difficulties with it).

  • Linking non-iWeb photo galleries

I have been building flash web galleries with such programs as Lightroom and Slideshow Pro. They are easy to add to a GoLive site, but I haven't figured out how to do this with iWeb. I can upload them to a server and link to them as external links, but I can't find a way to integrate them as part of the iWeb site so it can all be uploaded together as I do with GoLive. What am I missing, or is it a limitation of iWeb?
    Thanks,
    Peter

If you were publishing to .mac and using iphoto web galleries you would have the option to insert from the iweb menu.
Other than that I believe you would have to upload and link.
    good luck

  • IWeb slideshow from photo page doesn't work

My photo page works OK when clicking on a particular picture, then using "next" & "previous" buttons".
When clicking on "play slideshow", I'm greeted with "WE'RE SORRY, but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested"

This is covered in the User's Guide, page 94.

  • Adding Music to iWeb Slideshows

I would like to add some music to the slideshows I've published using iWeb. I discovered some old (ie. Oct/2006) threads discussing this topic and have tried what was suggested there - downloading the AC-QuickTime.js and editing the slideshow HTML file as suggested, but could not get it to work. Does anyone have any ideas? This seems like such a simple feature to want to add to a slideshow (ie. the way you do it right in iPhoto), it seems like there has to be a way. Thanks for any help.

    pmuck,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Not sure what you've read, so here's the crash course on it again!
As long as you don't mind doing a little post publish editing of your .js files, it's fairly easy to do. You will find them in this path on your iDisk, using the Go menu in Finder:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/iWeb/Nameofsitefolder/Page_filesFolderPage.js
Open the .js files for that particular page on your iDisk with any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie (song): (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
    Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
    Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". Clear your browser cache and you should see the changes take effect immediately. Bear in mind you will have to make this modification each time you republish your site. You can also save this modified .js file and replace the republished file with it, as long as no other changes were made to the page in iWeb.
Post back and let us know how it goes.

  • Iweb slideshow image size

The "Play Slideshow" option in iWeb Photo pages actually shows my photos same size or even smaller than the photos on the page. They look tiny in the middle of the large black modern viewer..
Why is this? If I chose to click directly on one of the photos, another "inline" viewer appears, and here the photos are larger - as I would expect them to be in the slideshow.
I am very found of the iWeb fotopages that lets me make real photo albums with title text (as in the old "Homepage". I have tried to upload Large (high quality) photos, but this does not increase the size of the photos in the slideshow.
What is wrong here? Can anyone give me some input on these settings please? Thanks!

I believe the maximum dimension size of Photo Album Slideshows is 800 pixels. So anything larger will only display at 800 pixels.

  • Iweb slideshow problems

I have created a slideshow with music in iphoto. When i export it to iweb and publish it to my site the video only plays for about 5sec then it stops completely. But the video works fine if i just play it on my computer. I Have called godaddy and asked them. They say its nothing to do with the publishing on there end, that it something with the code. I have tried publishing to folder and using filzilla but still no luck.

Did you use a single audio file for the sound track or is it a compilation of two or more dragged in from iTunes?
