Non-locking RSS article length slider

I am having a small problem with the article length slider on an RSS page. On one site I slide the slider to the extreme left to insure that all articles are on one line. I reload the page or come back to it later and the slider has moved to the right and ads, etc. are showing. On other RSS pages the slider stays put and never moves.
Does anyone have any idea on why this might be happening, and how I can get the slider position to be remembered?

HI,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist file to the Trash and restart your Mac.

  • "View All RSS Articles" Sometimes Stops All Pages from Loading

    Hi!
I'd like some help with this:
Sometimes, when I view a whole lot of RSS articles in one tab, the content stops loading after one hundred or so articles have come in. After this, no pages will load -- not even a local html file in my home directory.
These message appears in the console:
    2007-01-17 13:10:37.996 Safari[6634] * -[NSCFString stringByAppendingString:]: nil argument
    (event handler):Null value
Memory and CPU don't seem unusually high. I can still close tabs, export bookmarks and do other things with the menus. I just can't load a new page.
Quitting and re-starting Safari is the only way I have found around this problem.

Wow... thanks for trying out those feeds that I suspected. It's a wierd problem, because it does not occur consistently.
I reproduced the error by viewing all RSS articles in my news feeds bookmarks folder, and I used "Start Profiling with Sample" on the Debug menu to create a .sample file, and I stopped profiling when the error recurred a few seconds later.
This produced a ten-thousand-line-long file that may contain useful information.
    Here's the console log section:
    2007-01-20 16:42:11.587 Safari[227] starting sample tool
    2007-01-20 16:42:39.834 Safari[227] * -[NSCFString stringByAppendingString:]: nil argument
    2007-01-20 16:42:44.918 Safari[227] sample tool output written to /tmp/SafariSample-2007-01-20-164211.sample
    The file is at
    http://homepage.mac.com/eyesquash/tmp/SafariSample-2007-01-20-164211.sample
I also have excerpted my news feeds bookmarks folder, so if you like, you can try importing it into Safari and loading all of it at once (a bit over 1,000 articles). It's here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/eyesquash/tmp/news%20feeds.html
I will try this from another account of my machine. I'll also try it from another account with Safari running in its messed-up state on my main account.
You know, this would not bother me much at all if it weren't such a nice feature when it works. Most Apple things are like that for me: great when they work, and they usually work.

  • Can you remove the "View All RSS Articles" and Counter in Bookmarks Bar?

Hi There. I have a folder/drop down menus called "MyMix" in the Bookmarks Bar with several subfolders of pages I like to visit regularly. It's a silly thing but I get tired of the climbing counter of RSS articles in parentheses that sits next to it. Is there anyway to remove that functionality? I have a few other drop down menus that don't have the same problem, so not sure why this one does it. I've tried copying the folder and taking out each individual subfolder but it still keeps the RSS counter and "View All RSS Articles" link in there.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Awesome, thank you. I should've checked preferences myself. Duh.
Still curious as to why it chose that folder instead of the other one's I have to display the RSS updates but I guess that will remain a mystery.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Locking items on a slide

    Hello,
Question. What is the purpose of being able to lock items on
a slide? Why would this be helpful?
    thanks,
    Helen

    Hi Helen
Imagine you are composing something where if one image or
caption were inadvertently moved a smidge, it would look odd. In
this case, it's a wonderful thing to be able to lock objects on a
slide. This prevents accidentally clicking and moving them when you
    didn't intend to.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • RSS articles not removed...

In the Mail settings, I specified that RSS articles be removed after one day. That is not happening; the articles just accumulate day after day. I can see articles that are now over a month old. I can even see articles that are over a year old (even though I've had my Mac for only four months).
Is this a bug or did I forget to do something?

    Hello b:
I have the same problem, although I use Safari as my RSS reader. That issue has been around (at least for me) for a long time. My workaround is to either clear the RSS articles manually or reset the delete time frame to something else and then set it back. I do not know how one deletes RSS articles in Mail (or if you can).

  • How to display the entire RSS article in Mail?

OK, this is what I really thought RSS in Mail was going to be... Since I only have access to email at work and no web browser, I had hoped to forward all those RSS feeds to my work inbox so I could then read the paper or whatever, while still looking like I'm at my desk doing work! Ha!
So, how can you get Mail RSS to display the entire article right in Mail so I can use the forward feature and forward all those articles that I want to my work email address?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
This way I don't have to click on my web browser, "Email article", as they would already be in my mailbox ready to be forwarded!
    Thanks.

RSS (http://www.rssboard.org/rss-specification) is an open format that allows users to aggregate content from different web-sites into a single "channel". The standard has very few "required fields" that boil down to:
    title
    brief description
    link
The rest is optional, i.e. up to the publishing website to decide whether to make available or not. It is also important to know, that many RSS feeds refer to content that is protected by copyright and hence must be reproduced under the terms decided by the publisher.
Full text is not an optional field of RSS. Some websites may decide to use "brief description" to feed an entire piece of content, but that is not a standard behavior.
In other words: what You're looking for can not be achieved through RSS feeds. Getting back to Your original problem - no web access at work – I'm wondering: how come You get RSS feeds and can not read the web pages? RSS feeds are using the same protocol (HTTP) as web pages and unless there's a very sneaky firewall involved, Web browsing should not be a problem.

  • How do I get the number of new RSS articles to show in the bookmark bar?

I have Apple as one of my Bookmarks in my Bookmark bar. On my eMac at school, whenever there was a new Apple Hot News article, I would get a number next to my Apple that would let me know there was new Apple News. I can't figure out how to set that up on my new MacBook so I know when new Apple News is posted. What do I need to do to show the number of new articles in my Bookmark Bar?
    Thom

Thanks. I thought that was all I had to do and thought I had the Bookmark Bar checked off to alert me. I just checked my preferences again and it wasn't checked off. I guess now I just wait.
Is there anything specific I need to do for the Apple Hot News site? Do I need to subscribe to the RSS feed or anything like that?

  • Empty author entries in RSS articles as viewed in Mail

I wonder if any one else has noticed this niggling problem. I subscribe to various RSS feeds in Mail, e.g. this one:
    feed://www.agu.org/pubs/rss/ja_rss.xml
for which the articles often have multiple authors of the form "J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author", which in the original RSS feed XML source is written as:
    <author>J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author</author>
Safari will list these authors correctly for each article, and the relevant source line for these authors when the article is viewed in Safari is:
    <div class="apple-rss-author" title="J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author">J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author</div>
However, when viewed in mail the author list goes AWOL, such that the entry in the Author column is empty and the raw message source in Mail is:
    X-Mail-Rss-Author:
This does not happen when the articles have only one author - in this case the single author is displayed correctly in Safari and Mail. Does anybody know what's going on? Why isn't the string listing the authors just parsed without being fiddled with - is it something to do with the commas delimiting the authors? I don't know enough about how Mail deals with RSS feeds.

Have you ever sign into your email account on the computer?
There is an Inbox, Junk, Draft, Sent and Deleted folder. Basically, the mail app just sync those exact same folder from the mail server and those emails within those folders.
You should be asking the mail server provider why such Junk mail folder is there and why not just delete them from inbox.
If you move mail to the junk, it will recognize next time if its from the same sender it will automatically goes to junk.
I tried to delete that junk mail folder on hotmail.com and you are not able to delete it.

  • Does changing the RSS excerpt length of blog entries really work?

    Hello,
Due to various problems[1] with the RSS feed contents that iWeb produces for blog entries I would like to limit each excerpt in the RSS feed to a small portion of the blog entry to encourage readers to visit the full post on my website. The iWeb help says that adjusting the "Excerpt Length" in the Blog portion of the Inspector will adjust the excerpt length on the blog summary page and in the RSS file. But no matter what I choose for the Excerpt Length, the text of the entire entry goes into the RSS file.
Has anyone else had any success in limiting the contents of the RSS feed? Is this a bug in the program or in the help text?
Thanks in advance for any help that you can provide!
    -Jason

Sorry for replying to my own post, but I forgot to mention the problems I've had with the contents of RSS feeds of an iWeb blog:
    1. inline images don't make it to the RSS feed, just the template default image (which I know how to replace, but sometimes I want more images in a blog entry)
    2. hash characters (aka "number sign" or "pound sign" or "#") in a link URL get UTF-8 encoded to %2523 which browsers and/or servers don't seem to like. I discovered that when directly linking to a particulary .Mac Web Gallery album. The link works fine from the blog page, but not from the RSS feed. <sigh>

  • Variable Length Slide Durations

If I could wave my magic wand, it would be really great to have control over the length of time each slide in Lightshop 'dwells' for. Some slides could be there for a few seconds, others for several seconds. You might recall that some of Adobe's promos for LR (famous photogrpahers) had this feature - truly excellent. I thought (inocrrectly it seems) that I was getting this feature in LR.
We're using the slideshow aspects of Lightroom to advertise our work and being able to modify the time duration of slides individually would allow us to introduce some interesting effects.
Any....if anyone is still awake, I can't get my Itune library to play with LR (on PC) anyone know the answer?

I get sent the latest Telegraph website by my windows live mail account. The website comes up (opens) ok but when I click on individual articles none of them will open - the circle goes round and round and round.

  • Keynote locks up on first slide

My keynote Locks up when I try to play it.  It will show the first slide but will not let me advance or quit.  I have to hold "option, shift, command ,esc" for 3 secs to force quit keynote.  I have nothing fancy in the keynote.  I can start a new one, add a text on two pages, then hit play.  The slide will show the first page but then I can't advance or quit.  I have Mountain Lion and all updates are current.

Have you tried starting the export and going to lunch so your Mac can work without you standing over it? I'm not saying that you're wrong, just that sometimes these jobs take more time than we might have the patience for, and what looks like a freeze is just hard work going on. Check the cpu usage on your Activity Monitor while the export is going on and see how busy Keynote is. Even if Activity Monitor reports that Keynote is not responding, if the cpu usage is high, come back after lunch and see what progress has been made.

  • Display only new RSS articles

    Hi,
any way that Safari displays only the "new" articles in the RSS feed. It is somehow nonsense to load articles from today, yesterday etc. (under the category "Recent Articles") if they are not marked as "new"...
    Any idea?

A number of people in this thread (Including me) are also having the same problem. It seems to be related to .Mac bookmark syncing. Turning off bookmark syncing solves the problem for me.
It may be worth checking out the thread.

  • Open RSS articles in seperate tabs

Hi, I hope someone can help me,
Is there a way to open all articles in a single RSS feed in separate tabs using safari.
This is possible in Firefox but Safari only seems to open the actual RSS feeds in tabs, rather than individual articles.
love this feature in Firefox but would rather use the Safari browser.
    Thanks in advance.

    petied,
I don´t have an rss-enabled safari, for I have Panther, but in order to view rss feeds one in each tab, I use
Saft, which is a Safari extension that enables Safari to open each link in a new tab.
I think it can help you. although I don´t have muck knowledge about safari in Tiger.
    Hope this works!
