Non-Present Hidden Devices are Shown Automatically. No Need for DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES Anymore

Hello,
I noticed that non-present devices that were previously used on the computer to which Device Manager snap-in is connected to are currently shown automatically should you choose
Shown hidden devices item in the View menu without you have to set the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES environment variable system-wide and initialize in to 1 (one) as it was previously suggested in the well-known
Device Manager does not display devices that are not connected to the Windows XP-based computer
KB 315539 article.
Is it correct?
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

Hello,
Yes that is correct, you should not need the environment variable any longer

That is absolutely incorrect.
Show Hidden Devices=devices that are part of a setup class that is marked as a NoDisplayClass in the registry.
DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1 means devices that were physically removed from the computer but whose registry entries were not deleted. Get the difference?
"Show hidden devices" option is there since Windows 2000 and has nothing to do with the DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES environment variable. Just because MS screwed up and deleting this functionality, they conclude, "There is no need for it any more" and
continue justifying their abuse of feature deletion in their software. There was a need to see "Non Plug and Play Devices" when any software driver (AV filter driver or any other software driver) installed on the system got corrupt or needed to be
uninstalled manually or when its uninstaller didn't remove it properly.
I am shocked anyone from Microsoft can behave this way. "There is no need". Hey, speak for yourself!!!!! Don't speak for your users when you've just deleted functionality.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

My MacBook Air is in a support profile for one of my Apple IDs while all my other devices are in a support profile for a different one of my Apple IDs; how can I combine under one?

Actually, this can be done without merging Apple IDs, as I found just by trying this out: I went into the support profile for the Apple ID that had only my Mac listed. I then chose to disassociate the Mac from that Apple ID. I signed out and signed in using my other Apple ID (the one with all my other Apple devices). I chose to add/register a new device, entered my Mac's serial number, and now it is associated with all my other Apple devices under a single Apple ID. No merger of Apple IDs required.

  • Non CISCO unknown devices are being discovered in LMS

    Hi!
I have had no problem with discovery which was used on cdp basis so far.
Now the CDP packets do not arrive via new MPLS backbone network.  I have to use the "ping sweep feature in IP range" feature. I had to enter more than 400 subnet from file before there are more than 400 branches. ( etc. 10.31-9.1-50.252 255.255.255.252 )
    I have experienced two problems
    1. The discovery never end ( now this is not important ) :-)
    2. The common services -- device management shows discovered unknown devices whose ip addresses out side the range what are entered by me in the ping sweep range and theirs OID is not CISCO.
    (  1.3.6.1.4.1.2001.1.1.1.1  ,  1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.1  ,  1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.2  , 1.3.6.1.4.1.18334.1.1.1.2.1.7.1.2 and even more )
Due to more than 300 unknown devices the LMS device number is beyond the license number!!!!!
    Our questions.
Why does lms add the unknown devices ( non cisco devices ) to the inventory ?
How could lms discover  these devices ??? ) ( theirs IP are out of ping sweep range and non cdp capable devices )
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you!
The unknown devices were in unreachable state and they were added to DCR.
I don't use include or exclude filter what were referred by bug.
In spite of i use seed device list from file the LMS ping sweep debug log shows that LMS try to ping other IP addresses!!!!
You're right, it is not normally operation may be TAC will be needed to  solve it.
( whether who tested it ?)

To share content with AirDrop, both people need one of these devices using iOS 7 or later, or a Mac with OS X Yosemite:
    iPhone 5 or later
    iPad (4th generation or later)
    iPad mini
    iPod touch (5th generation)
You also need to turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. If you want to share with your contacts, sign in to your iCloud account.

To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.

  • What are the basic knowledge needed for swift coding?

can someone please tell me what are the basic coding languages needed for swift coding .
Like do we need to know c or c++ ??
    Thanks

Although C is the default language of Unix, Swift does not require that you know C in order to learn or program in Swift. But knowing a programming language is a helpful step in learning a new programming language.
If you read the manual's first couple of chapters you will see what the goal of designing the Swift language was. In the manual they even suggest you can learn Swift without knowing C. They have removed the indirection of the C reliance on pointers and other arcane methods in order to make Swift easier and quicker to learn.
If you have no programming experience then I would suggest you might start with BASIC or Pascal. When you are comfortable with programming then you can take on Swift.

  • HT1495 What do I do if none of my devices are being properly detected by iTunes when using multiple libraries (mostly via wifi sync)?

Have a Windows 7 machine with terabytes of HDD space and 8 Gigs RAM. Two iTunes libraries (mine and my wife's with about 10% file overlap). Two iPhone 5s (iOS 6.0.2), 1 iPad 2 (iOS 6.0.1), 1 iPad 3 (iOS 5.1.1), and a jailbroken iPhone 3GS 32 GB that we've converted to an iPod essentially (iOS 3. something--not willing to update given the historically bad performance of the new iOS on the 3GS). Running iTunes 10 (also not willing to update to 11 after reading reviews).
I get multiple errors in both libraries with lots of popup boxes saying devices cannot connect, be properly identified, or sync, etc. Disconnecting and reconnecting via cable is marginally better (more so with the 3GS less with the iPads).
I'd like to be able to link certain devices to certain libaries (i.e. my iPhone5 and iPad3 with my library and my wife's iPhone5, iPad2, iPhone 3GS with her library). Instead it seems the wrong devices always show up or none at all.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. I have a moderately high level of tech expertise, so if there are scripts or hacks to be written/run I wouldn't be shy about trying them. Also would consider an iTunes alternative given that Apple isn't interested in supporting users with massive music libraries who need powerful databases as opposed to the dumbed down stuff they are trying to push in 11.
    Thanks!
PS also my home sharing doesn't work at all on any device, but that seems to be Apple standard

  • HT4929 Should I move to icloud if none of my devices are compatible?

I have a macmini and a macbook air both with 2GB ram running snow leopard, an iphone 3G running iOS4.2.1 and and an original ipad.
I was a .mac member and a mobileme member.
I stopped using mobileme to sync contacts and calendars because for some reason my contacts and calendars were corrupted and would never sync properly. So I was basically only using mail.
I signed up to keep my mail.
I used gallery and web.me - which I know are going away. I downloaded everything but and it will be painful for me when everything is deleted.
    QUESTIONS:
Do I need to move to iCloud? Is there any benefit for me?
If I upgrade my macOS to Lion or get a new iPhone after June 30th, will I be able to use iCloud with my current email address?
    Afraid to upgrade...
    - I don't want to upgrade macmini and macbook air from snow leopard ot Lion right now because I heard that both my machines may need more than 2GM ram to run smoothly.
    - I don't want to upgrade from iPhoto 8.12 to iPhoto 11 because I heard people don't like it and it's slow with only 2GM ram.
    - I don't want to my original iPad to iOS5 because I heard that some people's got 'bricked'?
    - I cant' upgrade my iPhone 3G
QUESTION: Should I upgrade my OS and iPhoto? It seems like I only read bad things, not positive things which is very paralyzing.
Afraid to trust Apple with my data... Every time I commit to putting my data in an apple service, the service is ended and my data is deleted. homepage.mac, gallery, web.me, corrupted contact lists, etc... Other companies care about the data and help customers move their data.
I don't want to buy all new hardware and software with the promise that Apple will take care of my data. They didn't when I was paying for mobileme. Will they care about my data if it's a free service in iCloud? I've been an Apple customer since 1991, and have owned dozens of apple products and even worked at Apple. July 1, 2012 I will be very sad when my data... photos and websites will be deleted like they are nothing. Everything Apple helps you create and collect is treated as if it has no significance.

If you have moved your current MobileMe email address to iCloud in order to keep using it after today, then you have already "moved" to iCloud - you just havent moved everything and are not using all the features.
At anytime in the future, when you get compatible hardware and software you can start using the rest of iCloud with your current account.
No company can guarantee that they or their services will be around forever. Apple have stated publicly that iCloud is central to their business for the next decade or more.
    - RAM is cheap and your machines and software will always benefit from having more RAM.
    - Like anything in life, some people like iPhoto, some don't. Maybe you should make up your own mind?
    - What about the 99.999% of people whose iPads didn't get bricked updating to iOS5? People get killed everyday crossing the street - doesn't stop you doing it though, does it?
You should never trust any single company with your data - regardless of who it is. That's why backups were invented.
Apple have given over a years notice of the end of MobileMe (much longer than any other company has ever given of thE closure of other services, that I recall). They also automatically handle the migration to iCloud, and provide lots of detailed support articles for backing up and moving your stuff. What more do you want? Them to come round personally and do it for you?

  • TS4036 My contact changes on one device are not automatically updating to my others. I have the iPhone 4, MacBook Pro & the latest iPad.  All are running on iOS6 and use Safari. What am I missing?

Contacts are not syncing on my MacBookPro, iPhone4 & my iPad.

On iOS devices, go to Settings>icloud, be sure each is connected to the proper icloud account and that the Contacts on/off switch is turned ON.  Check a similar things on the mac (system preferences).
Also, contacts are listed as being either in the "iCloud" group or the "On My Mac" (or iPad, iPhone).  Anything in the "On My Mac" (or whatever device it is) does not sync via icloud, only contacts in "iCloud" sync.

  • None of my devices are being recognised in Itunes (windows)

I'm having a real issue with Itunes and it's driving me nuts.
I'm trying to connect an iPad and a iPod Nano to my PC, but iTunes isn't recognising it. I've completely reinstalled itunes, by following the steps on the Apple website, but still the issue persists.
When connecting the iPad it shows up correctly in Windows Explorer, but nothing shows up in iTunes
When connecting the iPod Nano it shows up in Explorer and iTunes shows a message saying that the iPod isn't connecting, and then disconnects the Nano automatically from my PC.
I would really appreciate some guidance in resolving this problem

I've tried those articles but nothing's helped.
There definitely seems to be an issue with my PC, rather then the hardware.
It's extremely odd, because whilst the device is connected to my computer (without apple helper running in the background), it shows up fine on Windows explorer. But as soon as I start iTunes, it 'disconnects' the ipod from my PC and shows up with the error message.
I've also tried looking for the 'ipod' device in 'Device Manager', but it doesn't seem to show up there.

  • What are the system fonts needed for Lion to run?

I work in a Prepress Department and the only way to properly work with fonts in this enviroment is to have the bare minimum fonts necessary for an OS to run correctly which is usually around 30 or less fonts. Then we use suitcase to load fonts provided by customers and we know for sure we are using the exact fonts used to build the job say in Quark or Indesign. Before moving system fonts from Lion into a disabled folder I was hoping for a list of sysytem fonts that are absolutely needed to run Lion without issues.

    Thanks for all the help!

Event.xml is used for Recording purpose - the configuration in there is used for F4F recording.
Manifest.xml is used to serve .f4m file in case if you are using Multi-level manifest.
liveshow.f4m is new way of delivering f4m and is called Multi-level manifest and is used for HDS
    liveshow.m3u8 is used for HLS
The difference between Manifest.xml and liveshow.f4m is that they use different specification of F4M file specification - first one is based on 1.0 specification and later is on 2.0 specification.

  • Why are ports 36000-36999 needed for iChat AV

I have a homegrown firewall on my network that allows me to do whatever I wish.
When testing this with a ichat AV 4 user, I had to open the following ports to make it work:
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any to any 36000-36999
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 36000-36999 to any
Once that was done, the video/audio worked fine. I had already punched the other recommended holes:
${fwcmd} add pass tcp from any 5190 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass tcp from any 5298 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass tcp from any 1024-65535 to any 5190
${fwcmd} add pass tcp from any 1024-65535 to any 5298
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 5060-5061 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 5190 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 5297-5298 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 5353 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 5678 to any 1024-65535
${fwcmd} add pass udp from any 16384-16403 to any 1024-65535
Why were the 36000 ports needed?
Also, when testing with an iChat 3 user, I couldn't initiate the call, but they could and it worked...
One more thing I should add is that I tested the ichat4 to the appleu3test02 aim user and it worked without punching the 36000 holes.
Any clues would be very helpful.
    Thanks,
    Micky

    Ok,
I will tell you which ports iChat 4 uses.
You can then decide how to enter them into your set up.
5190 on TCP for AIM Login. An alternative we suggest is 443
This can be SSL on either port for iChat 4
5190 on UDP for File Sending, Pic in Text chats (Direct chats) and Group chats.
5222 and or 5223 on TCP for Jabber login depending on your Server
5220 for Jabber on TCP (rest of their port use)
    5297, 5298, 5353 on UDP for Bonjour
    5298 on TCP for Bonjour
5678 on UDP for sending and receiving Visible part of A/V invite
Ports 16393-16402 on UDP for the SIP connection phase with the SNATMAP server AND the A/V chat it self. Use one port at a time for all of this (Different from iChat 3) Starts at port 16402 and move down one port at a time for those 10 ports then tries random port.
5900 TCP for Screen Sharing (Unsecure connections) VNC.
See this Doc for some info
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208
This for some of the iChat 4 Changes
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688
This for the VNC bit and confirmation on Port Use and the use of Jabber on some server 5553 in Note 10
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439
What happens sometimes is that if the other end is doing Port Forwarding, DMZ or Port Triggering with NAT happening in two or more devices then the ports get changed.
You see this is some Error 8 logs. This in fact itself goes back to info that appeared in the Error log drop down in iChat 2 (And 3 before 10.4.7) that gave you some of the info about how the call was progressing when it failed.
Doing NAT behind tow or more routing devices can be the problem. It is even worse when people have two DHCP server further complicating the issue.
I am not sure why you have not pointed them port for port.
(I know the Apple Doc does says in it's table that this is an option.)
Most domestic devices via a web browser set up, work fine pointing 5190 at 5190 for example. iChat data is then expected on an iChat port and pointed to an iChat port on your computer.
Realistically a firewall should work the same way.
