Non-requested network settings changes

my Firefox is changing my Connection Settings every time I shut down. It is changing from autodetect proxy to manual and putting my own machine in as host.
I have deleted and rebuilt the .js file
I have changed the setting in Firefox Safe mode
I have been into About:config and changed the network type setting to 2
Nothing seems to work.
Where do I go from here?

I recently had the same problem and this was the advice
To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.
Try this cure for Security update if you want to go further...

The locations are actually...
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist

  • System preferences -- Network settings changed

When I go to System Preferences/Network, I get a pop-up message saying, "Your network settings have been changed by another application." I can't get rid of the pop-up and can't close the window My only alternative is to force quit.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what caused this and/or how to get rid of the pop-up message? I would be very grateful for any help.

  • Network settings changed

Cannot connect to the internet. I don't know what happened. Cannot find server.  I re-entered the information and it is showing it is connected, but when I click on Safari it says it is not connected to the internet. My network says the settings were changed by an application. I can't get that screen to go away except by turning the computer off.????

  • Internet connection settings change?

Can anyone help please?? I am using broadband connection and using Virgin as an ISP. Everytime i switch off the computer and turn it on again the network settings change to 'internal modem' and i need to manually change back to 'speedtouch USB'. can anyone help please, it is really annoying and a apple newcomer i am thinking now i have made a mistake! any ideas would be most welcome.
    thank you

Think there is an open bug on this...
Instead of restarting Firefox, if you toggle work offline on and then off again it should connect

  • Network setting changed...no printers, no file sharing

I had a message "network settings changed by another application" and could not change settings. After reading the discussion forum, Jona's fix worked to resolve that. However, I still can not print anything and can not "connect to server" to share files from my laptop to my desktop (which had the original problem with settings changed). HELP! I have many projects left to print for Christmas and have no idea where to start to fix this problem. I know it has something to do with the origninal network settings issue.

Hi AubreyM, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Did you delete those files or just lock the Security?
Have you tried connecting by IP>
Finder>Go menu>Connect to Servers..., then enter afp://ip.of.other.mac, like...
    afp://10.0.1.3
    afp://192.168.1.2
On the Printer, did you try removing the existing one in Printer Setup Utility, then adding it again?
    Might try these two...
Mac OS X: About the Reset Printing System feature ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341?viewlocale=en_US
Might try Printer Setup Repair 5.1...

  • Remove Admin's pass request on Network Settings...any idea?

    Hello,
I am going mad with this question/problem!
I need to have one user account that has access to network setting without being asked for Admin's credential.
Now, i am using Parental Control to limit this standard user just to see Display & Network settings, but, while with the Display Setting there is no request with Network Settings there is!
I installed also the Server Adminstration kit, i saw that with Workgroup Manager i found many useful thing like adding user to differnts groups but nothing about "suppress" this passwork request.
    ANY IDEA???
    Please!

sorry, I'm not a big expert on modifying /etc/authorization as you can really mess things up there.
*You don't want to do this* because you need to change system.preferences right in /etc/authorization. This affects not only the network preferences but some other preferences like sharing, security and startup disk. Do you really want to do this? sounds quite dangerous to me. I definitely wouldn't. I don't think there is any way to change the right for network preferences only.
as to how to modify this right, as i said, I'm no expert but the following will work.
First, I suggest you make a backup of the existing /etc/authorization file. Then
open /etc/authorization with TextWrangler. modify the section
    <key>system.preferences</key>
    <dict>
    <key>allow-root</key>
    <true/>
    <key>class</key>
    <string>user</string>
    <key>comment</key>
<string>Checked by the Admin framework when making changes to certain System Preferences.</string>
    <key>group</key>
    <string>admin</string>
    <key>shared</key>
    <false/>
    </dict>
You can change admin to staff. This will let any user on the system to unlock system preferences. Or you can make a new group. Include yor main admin user and the user you want to give extra rights to. then put the name of that group instead of admin in the above.

  • "Network settings have be changed by another application" stuck in loops

I have the exact problem as others with Network System Preferences saying that the settings have been changed by another application. The message goes into a loop that can only be stopped with a Force Quit of the Preferences. I also have the Airport not connecting at start-up without choosing the Network Name from the Airport Pull down menu. I also think it may have started with the last Security upgrade and Java upgrade. I have used the airport utility to reconfig the base station. I discovered a system keychain with a password for the airport that my normal passwords would not open to show what it's password was. I have done many disk permissions and verifications. Any ideas? I would think if this is a Security update error, that Apple would be aware of it by now and post a repair. I have followed some threads on this issue but would rather wait for an Apple fix. There appears to be no way to contact Apple in customer support.

  • How to change Network Settings on iPhone OS 3.1.3 on my iPhone 3G?

I'm using the iPhone 3G locked with Bharti Airtel in India. Airtel, for a brief time was authorized to unlock the iPhone 3G after the completion of contract period of a year but, now it doesn't.
Airtel has three network settings but I'm unable to change the settings. I need to change it to use unlimited data plan. Is there any official way to change it? and if not, will it possible to change the settings after I unofficially unlock it? Please suggest.
P.S. I'm running the latest iPhone OS 3.1.3

The ability to change the APN settings on the iPhone depends on the carrier file. Basically the carrier has told Apple if they want the settings to be enabled or not. In the case of the iPhone in Canada all carriers do not allow for the APN settings to be changed, and it would appear that Airtel is the same.
If the iPhone is being used properly with the carrier that the iPhone is locked to there should be no reason to change the APN settings.

As far as unlocking the iPhone goes the only way it to see if your carrier will unlock it for you. According to Apple you are correct in saying that Airtel does not offer unlocking, but you can always call them to double check.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937
Hacking the iPhone is not recommended, and can not be discussed here on this forum. You can search Google, but if you are running 3.1.3 hacking your iPhone to unlock it might not even be an option.

  • Feature request - 'shadow' settings for changing locked VM settings

I have a possible idea for you that I know I would find helpful. I understand that certain VM settings can't be changed while the VM is running. I would love to be able to make the change so that next time the VM restarts, it can first have those settings
changed for me before starting up again. That way, I could make the change (although it would tell me it couldn't be changed right now), and schedule the computer to restart sometime overnight, so that I don't have to either a) get up at 3am to do it manually
or b)work out what powershell command to run which would shut the machine down, make the changes, then start it up again - and hope that I'd done it correctly :-)
I hope this is a useful feature request. Generally very happy with all the improvements you keep making, thanks.
(I didn't find anywhere else I could submit a feature request, so I hope this gets to someone that can use it.)

I like that as a feature for those who manage via GUI.  It would be possible to create script to accomplish the same thing and then schedule the script for execution later.  But for GUI users, it makes sense to me.
I think the forums would be a good place for putting feature suggestions.  It could easily be a Sticky post that would always appear at the top of the forum.  Anyone with an idea for a new feature could add a post to the Stickey post, and
Microsoft PM's could just read that Sticky post from time to time.  And, the built in Vote capability would allow other forum readers/contributors the ability to vote on it if they like it.  It would be a useful Sticky post on any product forum.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My Network settings are being changed by another program??

When i open up system preferences>network an alert window pops up to say "your network settings have been changed by another program"...so naturally i click the 'o.k' button to get rid of it, but it immediately pops up again.
So its impossible to make changes in my network settings because it'll keep popping up, meaning the only way to close system preferences is to force quit.
What could this other program be? could it be my ISP (virgin media) messing about with my settings?
so until i can fix my problem i cant even change any of the settings in the 'network' panel of 'system preferences'.......and you guys ideas to fix this would be appreciated!!

This recently happened to me. Go to System Prefs, Security. Click on Require Password to Unlock each secure system preference. That should do it. After you fix it, go in to security prefs again to uncheck it, or you will have to enter password each time you want to change any system prefs.

  • Possible in any way to change tcpackfrequency/tcpnodelay/other network settings in win 8.1?

As far as I've been able to find, pretty much everything has been locked down in windows 8+ regarding network settings (templates) in general which were earlier easily editable by either netsh or going into the registry.. unless you're running a server
version, which of course most aren't.
Why was this even done? Not like the normal user will accidently change these settings, for power users, as a gamer myself, I would like to tweak everything possible to get the lowest ping since this is one of the few things you can do on your own side that
affects it at least a decent amount, except for having a good router and whatnot. The larger part is up to being lucky with your isp.
So please make it possible to activate and edit the InternetCustom in normal setups.
If it's not possible to do this for whatever reason, please at least make a specific template for low ping desired setups as a gamer, like InternetGaming or similar.

    Hi,
I am afraid that this is designed by default considering the usage of this feature on Windows client.
