Non SGML character in RichTextEditor drops the page - bug?

Hello,
I have a reproducible error behavior which drops ADF page.
There's a RichTextEditor on my page having data from DB CLOB. Usually it works fine but when it encouters a certain CLOB record, the page just refreshes and nothing works.
The CLOB content represents HTML text and looks fine. I uploaded it to W3C HTML Validator and found out that there are couple of non SGML characters in the text (Line 27, Column 297; Line 27, Column 328).
I have no opportunity to fix this text in ADF application and have to use some DB tool to delete those chars.
I guess, this is a bug and would like to know if there's any option to process this error and save ADF page living.

Hello John,
When I'm selecting a bad record the Chrome browser just refreshes the page and I'm on the previuosly selected good row again.
I can't see the page source on bad record.
I've checked another browsers: Firefox and IE behave the same way.

How can a variable display the first character that's on the page?

I'm creating a telephone directory and want each page to display the alphabet of the first listing on the page on the top - only one character.

Hmmmmm, seems I was wrong about the GREP styles. I just tried it and they don't get picked up. I consider that a bug, but it's probably "as designed."
That leaves you having to work with nested styles only, or Find/Change. I think what you'll need to do is redefine the Paragraph style so it has two nested styles that apply the correct style to whatever needs to be styled at the start of the paragraph, one for the first character and the second for the rest of the word(s) if you can figure out a trigger (can InData add an end nested style character or is thew some punctuation you can use?), then find/change to remove the applied character style. For that I'd serach for ^.+ with the find format set to the character style that InData applied and the chane format set to [None], which will only remove it from the beginning of your paragraphs. If this is done correctly there will be no change in appearance since the redefined paragraph style will do the formatting.
If that won't work, you can use find/change to apply a new style to the first characters. Search for ^. and set the change format to the new character style that you'll use in the variable. It needs to have the same attributes as the style applied by InData or the appearance will change.
The second method is probably easier since you don't need to redfine the paragraph style, but both methods require you to use find/change to alter the text, which means if more text is added you'll need to re-do the find/change. Not a big deal, but don't forget. I'd be tempted to wait until the last minute and just ignore the headers for the moment, if editing is ongoing. I'd also test this on a copy of the file for safety.

V4.1 "You cannot perform this action in this region of the page" Bug?

I am receiving an "You cannot perform this action in this
region of the page" error when I try to add a link to an image. And
yes I am in an editable region.
The weird thing is, for the images that already have links, I
can edit them successfully, but if I remove them I cannot add a

3.11 but the client is now using 4.1 could that have something to

I was also having this problem but I was able to confirm that it wasn't old code or javascript problems. In the process of troubleshooting we realized that some links were editable and others were not. Turns out all the links that used PHP (in this case an echo for the site url) were the ones that were uneditable.
Since I've been creating pages and content with this method for years and have only had a problem in the last month, I don't really feel like this has been "solved". I certainly don't want to go back and edit all my pages using php for site organization but at least this will allow the client to make edits for now.

I am working on a file I created in Indesign CC 2014 and when I try to rearrange pages in the Pages menu or try to package the file, I get the spinning wheel for 20 mins. then it crashes. What should I do?

Can anyone help? I started a 24 page document in Indesign CC 2014 and have been using the file off of a dropbox acct on my two machines (desktop and macbook pro). I need to rearrange some of the pages but when I try to drag and drop the pages in the Pages menu, I get the ominous spinning wheel...for about 20 mins at times. then It will just crash. The document doesn't have a tone of images. I've also tried to collect and package the file but get the same thing.
What should I do?? Help!

try the script at Adobe Community: InDesign 6 is crashing when attempting to open a particular document. All others are opening OK.
I'd also try moving the pages to a new file, though I suspect that will crash too. Divide and conquer might work -- tray one of your operations on half the document at a time, then repeat by dividing any piece that fails, and so on, until you isolate a page, then use the same method to isolate an object (though it's possible you have a corrupt page).

Can't Replace Pages (via drag and drop in Pages panel) in Acrobat 9 Pro

I'm running OS X 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 9.1.3, PPC G5 PowerMac.
I'll have two PDFs open and I'll want to replace certain pages from document A with certain pages from document B. Rather than using the Replace Pages command from the Document menu, I prefer to visually see what I'm changing. For this reason I've always preferred the drag and drop method, where one selects a page thumbnail from one document and drops it onto a page thumbnail in another document. This only seems to be a problem in Acrobat 9. This works fine in Acrobat 7.1.1 and 8.1.6. Drag and drop will allow one to insert pages but the replacement of pages is not working. As described in Acrobat Help, under "Replace pages using a page thumbnail," I try to drop the page thumbnail onto the page number as prescribed but the page to be replaced never highlights like it should. It will only give the insertion highlight between each page, indicating that it is about to insert a page.
Other macs exhibit the same behavior -- it always works in Acrobat 7 and 8 but not 9.

I'm using the Windows version of Acrobat Pro 9 and found this thread with the same problem. (Key command to replace on Windows is: Ctrl + Alt).
Anyway, to answer the how to disable the warning, go to the Acrobat Preferences. In the General category under "Warnings", check the setting "Do not show edit warnings". There should be a similar setting on the Mac version.
(Now I wish replacing pages didn't require a key command like in previous versions.)

Why can't I get swipe the page to work?

I have my MAC pro for few months and are continually adjusting to its many features. I recently discovered the swiping the page feature. I have tried all of the "finger" options & none of them have worked. The page feels like it wants to move, but feels like it is stuck. Can someone help with this ?

you can download it to your phone so you'll always have it!!!! (use wifi or 4g) however, i don't find the manulas that useful. they contain 200+ pages of the very basic functions. just come here for any real troubleshooting. glad i could help!!

Drag and Drop of Page from Content Finder into Page Component

Hi,
Does anybody has a sample code for Page component which accepts the page when dragging and dropping from the content finder? Basically I am trying to create a web page with page component on it and customized the content finder to display all the pages that I needed on a separate tab, I am trying to drag and drop the pages from the content finder to the page component of the web page that I created, but it is not working for me. If someone has any sample working code please share it.

There's no direct support for this. But you could implement
drag and drop the way you normally would in javascript. Except
here, on mouseUp over a div encapsulating the object or embed tag
(the flash object), you'll need to make a call into actionscript
from javascript indicating that a drag and drop happened.

Non-Latin Character Display On Web Page

In a Java web application, only one non-Latin character display issue is that when they are typied into a JSP file. Otherwise, non-Latin characters display correctly from the message property file or from database.
Anyone know how to solve it?

You say that your co-worker said she is linking to the skin
file from a .htm page, but what is missing here is whether she is
using the .HTM page you provided in the mix or if it's one she

When I drop a page into a second document the text and numbers are misaligned. How can I stop this?

I have a master PDF that I am coping pages into from a sub-portion PDF document. When I drop the new page in many characters (text and numbers) are misaligned on the recently added page and some characters have just vanished. I tried converting to PDF/A Mode for one source document and PDF/X Mode for another that seemed to fix the issue.
I'm wondering if there is a better better way, maybe some setting I can change in order to prevent my plain old PDFs from having this character jumbling?

You very likely have fonts embedded in the source file that are not in the new file and that scrambles things. Why not just extract the page from the old document and then do an insert to see if that does the job. Extra work, but it might help identify the problem.

You will find that this is application dependent. Most Apple applications such as Safari and Mail will use the "sheet" type of dialog boxes that you are referring. There is no way for the user to change that behavior. Other, non-Apple, applications like Firefox use a "modal" dialog box for printing etc. The modal boxes can be moved around so you can see the page behind.

Well I figured it out, right click the arrow that makes the screen bigger and unclick the Hide Toolbar. I knew it couldn't be that hard.
