Non supported camera and old Imovie version question?

I have a multi part question. First, I have an Ion Video camera that appears to not be supported by IMovie. But I also have an old version of IMovie 8.0.6 because I've never used it up until now. When I upload my video's, Iphoto automatically opens and they go into there. I want to be able to use IMovie to edit, add music etc. I've never really manually imported or exported things on my computer and don't know if that is how I can get them over into IMovie or what. I've tried muddling through trying to do that, and apparently I'm doing something wrong. When I hook up my Ion camera directly to my computer the videos won't go directly into IMovie for some reason. I've tried dragging the videos from iPhoto into IMovie and that won't work either. Can someone tell me detailed instructions on how to exactly do this or what I need to do to get videos into IMovie. What if my video camera isn't supported?? I need to learn how to do this fairly quickly. Thank you

So I assume you have the clips in you event browser that were imported from your old digital camera.
And when you play them fullscreen, they look bad.
The point of a DVD, is to play them in a DVD player, usually a TV which is an even larger screen, AND
the problem is that conversion to the DVD will further degrade the quality. It will look worse.
what you need to do i think is to go ahead and make the movie (project) but plan on exporting it to a form that works well on a smaller screen, an iPod might be perfect for that. Or you could play it on your computer screen but shrink the movie (do not play full screen). Most of these will play with QuickTime and you can pull the QT playing screen to be larger and smaller by using the corner thingie in lower right hand corner of the screen.
So, make your project, and you will be exporting it ("Share" menu) as a QT file and playing it as a QT file, not a DVD. If you use Share menu, pick Export Movie and pick the highest resolution it allows and export it to your desk top, you will end up with your movie in a form that you can play with QT.

IMovie Version Questions

I've read with interest the issues regarding iMovie8 and regret just having purchsed a new iMac, primarily to upgrade from an old iMovie4 version. The inability to export back to tape (that was Apple tech advice for best means of storage!). Based on reading posts, iMovie6 addresses some issues, but I have two questions for those of you knowledgeable about this situation:
1-I read somewhere in the many chains that any version of iMovie past 4 (that I have) will no longer "pass through" analog signals from a camera (in my case Sony) and convert to digital: that is exactly what I've been doing over the last several years with older analog tapes (Hi8) of our kids. So, does this mean if I go even to iMovie6 I'll be unable to digitize video from those old tape? If so, I'm completely boxed in.
2-With older iMovie versions, the transfer back to tape has worked perfectly. But, with iMovie4, I find that as it goes back to tape on the camera, there are occasional "freezes"--the image stops for a fraction of a second or a second or two. And that freeze is on the tape version (even though the movie itself on the computer is fine. Has anyone had this issue with any version of iMovie that still allows transfer back to tape.
I'm feeling very abused...potentially unable to use old analog tapes with iMovie6, unable to transfer back with iMovie8, and the transfers are not working well with iMovie4. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for your several responses. Based on your comments, iMovie6 should be ok for both analog pass through my Sony directly into iMovie, and to transfer back to tape. Others had indicated that the analog pass through was not operative after 4, but you're doing exactly what I'm asking about. Based on all comments I've read, neither analog pass through nor transfer back to tape will work in iMovie 8. I guess I'll proceed, and download iMovie6 as others seem to have done...although I've seen some issues with running 6 when 8 is on the computer. Thanks again.

How to import non-HD movies from old iMovie

guess I am a little bit late for this, but until recently I had still the old iMovie (6 ?) version installed - whereas after migration to Snow Leopard and iMovie 09 (?) the older iMovie version isn't there anymore.
So, how do I import the old movies - not in HD format - into my HD Event Library without unnecessary conversion? It seems that the import via File->Import->iMovie HD Projects is not the right way, as it upscales my smaller format to the Large ("false" HD) format.
Tried to find answers in the forum but without result.

1. The iPhone can only work with SIMs made (coded) for the iPhone. SIMs from other phones will not work (though an iPhone SIM can work in an older phone).
2. The iPhone doesn't read nor write to the SIM and has no option to import from a SIM.
Best bet (what I did) was obtain the the software Motorola has that will allow you to interact with the Razr (which I use to have). The software they have has their own address book reader to bring contacts into their own proprietary address book on the computer. Once in, it has an export feature (export to .CSV/.TXT file). From there I imported them into Outlook. Then synced with the iPhone and Outlook.
I did all that back when I first bought two iPhones for my wife and I when the first generation iPhone came out.

Trying to find supported cameras and the website...

I'm trying to find the supported cameras for Apple's camera connector, and i cant expand the window to see the rest. The window expand button is greyed, and i cant manually expand it with the corners because it wont move. If someone else can view this, will a Kodak DX3500 work?

Content of illustrator file is different when opening in and old cs version.

Hi all!
I have a very awful and urgent problem in my job right now, i design some advertisings that goes regularly from month to month, so some advertisings are just like the last month used but with some data changed.
My problem:
I have an illustrator file (.ai) saved and created in CS3 with pdf compability, outlines, and files linked and included on the same cd,
but when opening the same .ai file in another machine but with CS2 (the client's PC).. it shows a very old version of the file with ALL linked files embebbed (and those are different that are on the cd!!)., in the CS3 file i saved and recorded on cd i replaced all things of course and re-save it. I don't know what is wrong, but when i open it in another machine (i.e. a Mac) it shows the correct version of advertising. But not with the client's machine...
In my illustrator file, there is only text outlines and 2 psd. Each PSD have only 1 layer, 'cause they were flattened (thet are actually letters scanned).
So basically: My .ai file, created in CS3 in a Mac, seems totally different and embebbed when opening in CS2 in a PC.

In regards to the illustrator file link not matching, there is nothing wrong with the .ai file., your problem is with the filenames on the linked images. Your linked images have the SAME EXACT FILENAME AS THE OLD ones connected to the clients machine. You need to break the link to the old bad files and re-establish them to your good files.
Use links palete Flyout menu >> link information to find the location of the images. Change the name of an enclosing folder, or some other method to break the link to old images. Relink to new images, by placing them next to the .ai file in the same folder, and open the .ai file.

Can I use a PCI-1424 with a non-standard camera and build my own camera file?

I want to test a certain CCD which in non-standard and I want to setup the direct interface with it. My idea is to use a 1424 board and build the camera file.

Technically, you can build your own cable and ICD (configuration) file for your camera. It can be very difficult, though. If the CCD is fairly standard, NI might be willing to create a basic ICD file for you which you can modify to do what you want. The best way to figure out what can be done in an ICD file is to look at ICD files for other cameras.

How to delete clips in old Imovie version instructions do not work

How can I delete clips in events in imovie? I get the red line but when i click send to trash nothing happens. Likewise when I press command delete together the clips are not trashed. Just a "beep" Help! My computer is full!

That is to rename the Sections within the template, not the name of the Template in the Template Chooser, and it is greyed out if there are no alternative sections.
It is clumsy but you either go to the Templates folder in your User Library and rename it there, or save it with the new name and then delete the old one.

Nikon D5200 and old LR versions?

I have purchased the Nikon D5200 and want to use Lightroom to edit my images. Will the older versions of Lightroom have the built in presets to cope with the distortion that is often seen at the wider angles with the Nikon? If not, what is the oldest version that I can get? Thanks

Lr4.3 will read the files... but why not just get the latest Lr5.2??
Yes, lens correction will be applied for most lenses.
You will need to check the lens or lenses you have against the listings on the Adobe site but most commone Nikon leses have profiles.

IMovie Version Question

With specific reference to iMovie '08, is iMovie and iMovie HD the same, or are these different programs.
I find a specific reference to needing to use "iMovie HD '08". So, is "iMovie HD '08" the same as iMovie '08? Please clarify this distinction for me. Thank you. Dale

iMovie (=vers 1-4, as 'iMovie vers4')
iMovieHD (is vers 5)

Camera and/or null layers question

Hi - I am having a heck of a time understanding camera null layers. I have 3 separate photos on different layers and a solid background on the bottom layer. i simply want to fly a camera in between the separation of the photos so all three look like they're flying toward or past the camera.
every video tutorial i find seems to have an assumption that i know or understand this but i really don't - i need to start from the very beginning. does anyone know of a nice simple step by step video online that can help me?

You don't need to use null layers to control cameras. It's just a way to make certain things easier. But it makes things easier at the expense of a somewhat complex setup. If you're a beginner, you don't need to be messing with that.
Here are some useful resources for learning about animating cameras. The ones from Andrew Devis listed in the comments on that page are quite good.

Non supported applications and Yosemite

My iMacs and my MacBook are running well with Mavericks and I am thinking to upgrade to Yosemite, but I have one doubt I don't know if somebody would have an answer: I work with Final Cut Express and iWeb, and both applications, although not supported by Apple anymore, run well with Mavericks. Would that continue to happens with Yosemite?

Assuming you have a Metalink account, there is a "Certify & Availability" tab along the top that takes you to Oracle's compatibility matrix. You generally want to read through those notes because there may be caveats (i.e. everything by product/feature X is certified) or addenda.

We have 11g Listener serving 2 11g databases and 1 9i database. All 3 databases using default listener with 1521 port. How can I disable 9i database without affecting other 2 databases?
Listener.ora file has entries for 2 11g databases but none for 9i, so looks like 9i database using dynamic registration. Any suggestions?

You can not disable as such. You have to create separate listener if you want 11g's listener not to be used by 9i database. I do not think you will get any problem connecting through 11g's listener to 9i database.

You can do it dynamically as
