Non thermal sensor RAM

Greetings,
From the OWC memory upgrade page, it is stated that its DDR3 RAM are with thermal sensors. I wonder now whether RAMs without thermal sensor are compatible. I'm looking at Kingstion value ram at the moment. Thanks

George, you didn't mention you have special needs and a vendor that ships to Asia. You mentioned OWC, so thought that was where you were thinking of buying or have used before.
Australia and Japan, So Korea, and you haven't found a vendor?

  • Will Not Boot from Install Disc  & 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D - Thermal Sensor?

    *Will Not Boot from Install Disc*
    I used the "option key" approach with the gray start up disk. At first it ejected the start up disk. Then I nudged the disk back in the machine and it showed on the screen as an option. I clicked on the start up disk image and it finally loaded.
    But, it won't accept the start up disk when holding down the "C" key at restart.
    *4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D*
    I did an Apple Hardware Test and received the following diagnostic:
    Version: 3A121
    Test Suite: Extended Test
    Loop Count: 2
    Result: Failed
    Failure code: 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D
    *Thermal Sensor*
    A search for the failure code 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D brought up an Apple Discussion topic entry stating: That error code indicates a problem with a thermal sensor. It could be not working or possibly not connected. You will need to take it to Apple for repair.
    Would a thermal sensor have anything to do with it not starting up when holding down the "C" key at restart? What are thermal sensor problem symptoms?
    *User File Folder Opened Up*
    The machine also starts up with my user file folder opened up rather than with a blank screen as it normally should
    I completed a DiskWarrior rebuild on the disk and verify disk shows it is fine.
    Any suggestions on what to do next with these issues?

    The answer was in your post: "You will need to take it to Apple for repair."

  • Where can I buy a new 3.5" SATA HDD with the extra thermal sensor port for my late 2009 imac?

    where can I buy a new 3.5" SATA HDD with the extra thermal sensor port for my late 2009 imac?

    Depends on the original drive. According to OWC, at least last time I checked some months ago, any current WD drive they sell (up to 2 TB?) will be able to be swapped directly. I am unable to confirm this personally. But, even so, that was a while back. You should check with them again on this. As for Seagates, that might not be so simple.
    This is the original article on this from them.
    http://blog.macsales.com/2751-proprietary-cable-can-put-the-brakes-on-upgrading- late-09-imacs
    If you find a drive that OWC sells and is certain will swap in directly, you can see if newegg.com has it for less.
    This one that OWC sells will swap in directly, according to them.

  • Mac Mini Mid 2010, thermal sensor question...

    Hi,
    So after having opened my Mini a couple of times already (out of warranty) I sadly have to announce that I have joined the "Oops I damaged the thermal sensor club".
    The DVD broke down, it was no longer accepting discs and I thought I would replace it with a second HDD bay. So I did and obviously forgot how fragile these thermal scukers are and snapped it in half. I know what I need to do but I'm having issues finding the optical thermal sensor 076-1370 at a reasonable price (including shipping). Does anyone know if any thermal sensor will work, e.g one of the HDD sensors for the mid 2010?
    It's not a problem if the cable is too short. I can just re-solder it to fit but I'm unsure wheter it's the same thermal sensor for HDD's as it is for the optical sensor. They look the same to me.
    What did you guys do with your thermal sensor issue?

    mac pro put in new ram now none of the ram works
    it just hangs on restart
    the ram worked great for 12 hours then the computer restarted on its own
    since then it hangs on restart and never gets to the desktop

    It may not have anything to do with the RAM, or it might.
    Not enough to go by to say for certain, and the blunt "get new RAM" doesn't address how to troubleshoot or resolve most likely.
    Was it installed properly?
    How much did you install?
    Make? vendor.
    Try running with just the new RAM.
    Run Apple Hardware Test - boot 'd' key on startup, you may need your OEM Install DVD.
    Run Rember and/or Memtest utility to test memory, or TechTool Deluxe.
    When a computer restarts on its own it often means there was a kernel panic or something and damage to files, directory, journal and in need of repair, booting off your DVD or another drive to repair the drive, delete some files, turn journaling off and then on.

    Hello all,
    Does anybody know where can I find information about physical location of all 6 thermal sensors on X230? I tried to google and look in the user guide, but no luck...
    Thanks!

    morgwai,
    which sensors are you talking about? Test tools say about core #0, core #1 sensors you've mentioned. Also we see memory banks, CPU Package, IA/GT Cores sensors. Or do you mean sensors on the systemboard manufacturer adds - under CPU/GPU, near wwan/wlan, on the board covers?

  • Thermal sensor physical locations

    Hello,
    I searched the forum for this information, but could not find any information.  Please excuse me if this post is redundant.
    I have a K7N2 (MS-6570) MB.  I am using Motherboard Monitor and am trying to find out which thermal sensors are used to monitor which devices.  I am also wanting to know the physical locations of these sensors.  My current assumption is that sensor 1 in the Athlon core diode, sensor 2 is the CPU Socket, and sensor 3 is the general case temp.  Can I be confirmed or corrected on this?
    Thank you.
    Shoes
    You talk better than you fool!

    Thanks for the info.  I've got bios 3.7 and I don't get the deal with the temp.  Is the the corrected version or is it still off?  My temp used to read 57*C and now reads 37*C.  Should this be 47*C?

  • Thermal Sensor?

    I have a Turbo KT133 board and it has a southbridge chip made by VIA.  The southbridge is VT82C686B. i was using Motherboard Monitor and it says that there is 3 thermal sensors on the motherboard.  I know one is for the CPU temperature but I'm not sure what the other 2 are measuring.  Does anyone know where the other 2 are?  Where is the thermal sensor that measures the CPU temperature located at?  Thanks in advance.

    Assuming you're referring to one of MSI's original K7T Turbo models, only two temps are monitored, CPU and chassis.  The CPU sensor is a thermistor mounted on the circuit board under the socket-a.  Hope that helps.

  • Enabling Thermal Sensors on Conky

    Hi everyone, Im having a hard time enabling the thermal sensors for my conky.  I get only a cpu sensor which uses this script.
    ${color #888888}CPUTEMP:${color #CCCCCC} ${acpitemp}C
    I've already installed lm-sensors and hddtemp.
    What's the command for enabling them?
    And by the way, the script above doesn't even move or rises...It stucks on 4O C...And I assume that this is a System Temp not the cpu temp..Correct me if I'm wrong.;)
    All help would be appreciated... Thanks...all

    Dunno about that specific one (acpitemp gives me nothing), but do you have anything in /sys/bus/platform/devices? Like:
    coretemp.0  coretemp.1  i8042  iTCO_wdt  it87.656  pcspkr  serial8250  vesafb.0
    it87.656 has:
    alarms      fan4_input    in2_min    in6_input    pwm2         temp2_max
    bus         fan4_min      in3_alarm  in6_max      pwm2_enable  temp2_min
    cpu0_vid    hwmon:hwmon0  in3_input  in6_min      pwm2_freq    temp2_type
    driver      in0_alarm     in3_max    in7_alarm    pwm3         temp3_alarm
    fan1_alarm  in0_input     in3_min    in7_input    pwm3_enable  temp3_input
    fan1_input  in0_max       in4_alarm  in7_max      pwm3_freq    temp3_max
    fan1_min    in0_min       in4_input  in7_min      subsystem    temp3_min
    fan2_alarm  in1_alarm     in4_max    in8_input    temp1_alarm  temp3_type
    fan2_input  in1_input     in4_min    modalias     temp1_input  uevent
    fan2_min    in1_max       in5_alarm  name         temp1_max    vrm
    fan3_alarm  in1_min       in5_input  power        temp1_min
    fan3_input  in2_alarm     in5_max    pwm1         temp1_type
    fan3_min    in2_input     in5_min    pwm1_enable  temp2_alarm
    fan4_alarm  in2_max       in6_alarm  pwm1_freq    temp2_input
    My ambient temp reading, and root HDD are gotten with:
    ${platform it87.656 temp 2}, ${hddtemp sda}
    The exact names may vary.
    DE panel plugins may be helpful in figuring out which exactly is which. FI, I got a bunch of temps showing w/ XFCE's sensors plugin, then loaded my PC for awhile, to get what was what (except CPU and HDD). Quicker and easier than using conky or sensors for figuring them out.

  • Replace mid 2010 mac mini hard drive(s) and thermal sensor(s)

    TL;DR: How do I swap SSd for HDD in Mid 2010 Mac Mini without Fan problems.
    I'd like to replace both my Mac Mini HDD's with SSD's, but removing/repositioning* the factory thermal sensors will default the fan to full throttle! (I've had this happen on my other mid 2010 test machine). Has anyone successfully swapped out their drives and not had to deal with a system fan on Afterburner mode?
    Note: on my test mac mini, I tried SMC fan control as well as SSD Fan Control apps and neither is able to change the fan RPM.
    SMC Fan control (this is what I use on my macbook)
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23049/smcfancontrol
    SSD Fan Control: (suggested by others with similar thermal sensor/fan problems)
    http://exirion.net/ssdfanctrl
    * the position of the thermal sensors on the factory hitachi's is apparently important. In a test, I moved one a few millimeters and the fans defaulted to full speed.
    Cheers!
    Ken

    I replace the HD on my 2009 Mini with no fan problems.
    From your description I think yo have either a sensor or logic board problem. If the sensor was not attached to the HD and was "cold" then the fan speed would not increase if the HD got hot.
    When you played around with sensor position what what the temperature  of the sensor when you go the "right" fan speed and the runaway speed.

  • K7N2 delta thermal sensor / dual channel

    Hi all.
    I was wondering for what purpose my k7n2 delta ilsr has a thermal sensor (tape sensor) underneath the CPU, right in the middle of the socket... shouldn't the board read the temps directly from the CPU diode? Anyone knows?
    I have also seen an interesting thing... I had 2 sticks of 512mb kingston in that board, in dual channel mode and last week I ran doom3's timedemo demo1, and I noticed that I got a 10fps lower result than those I had earlier, when I was running single channel with only one stick.. so I pulled the second stick out and installed it in the other dimm (didn't change anything in BIOS), wich uses the same mem controller that the first and ran timedemo again... As you might guess i got about 10fps more than the previous result    I went searching it and i did find one article confirming this - http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10384 And a LOT more saying the contrarylike this one! http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/nforce2-1vs2channels/
    I found some potential explanations but I think 10fps is still a lot for those explanations, besides nVidia sold this as a high-end feature on this chipset... what the hell???

    The modules are kvr400x64c25/512, and they are at default timmings. I´ve been using one of them for about 1 year and it works perfectly. The other one is recent but it works flawlessly too. Howerver when they're together this thing happens. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the modules/kingston because it's so weird. I can't find any logical explanation, I'll keep looking... As you say Stu, kingston is a hit or miss, but hit and miss at the same time is strange. I'll do some research on those mushkin/crucial modules. Thanks.
    They are not matched... Ill bet 1000 dollars that is why
    Kingston absolutely requires the sticks be purchased in their "DUAL CHANNEL" (2 stick) package. I already went through that with Kingston a year ago with the K7N2-D2-P

  • Thermal Diode vs Thermal sensor ???

    Hi there,
    i have just fitted a coolermaster cooldrive to my pc. I am using the included thermal sensor wires to monitor the surface temo of my WD 1200JB hard drive. I am consistantly receiving at least 5 degree higher temp readouts from SpeedFan over the integrated thermal wires of the coolermaster unit on the hard drive. Ok so here it is.. which is the correct temp ? And where is the thermal diode sourcing its temps from the hard drive.. ?? Inetrnally or what ???
    Thanking all in advance...

    Yes speedfan does give temps for the HD's but I'm not sure where it senses it from, I would tend to think that your thermal diode would be more acurate.

  • Can MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina upgrade ram to 16G

    I wonder if my MacBook Pro 2014 non-retina can be upgraded myself to have 16G ram. Do anybody know that?

    I assume that you have a 13" (2012) model.  If so you may install 16 GB RAM.
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MD101LL/A&step=config
    Even though Apple says 8, the MBP will recognize 16 GB.  The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • CPU B Thermal Sensor Weirdness

    I'm posting this again as there was some coding in the text of the applefan file that wouldn't allow me to post it. Moderators, please delete the other post.
    I have an overheating problem that I'm working on. I have a PowerPC G5 Dual 2Ghz/4Gb Ram/Raptor boot disk/Photoshop scratch disk/Radeon 9800 Pro. About a month ago, the power supply failed (for the second time in three years!). After I replaced it, the computer would repeatedly freeze and had to be restarted via the power button. Here is what I've done so far:
    Wiped boot drive and upgraded to Leopard;
    Ran various utilities, ie, Disk Utility, Tech Tool (no problems reported);
    Ran Diskwarrior (no problems reported);
    Here is where it gets interesting:
    Ran Apple Hardware Quick Test (no problems reported);
    Ran Apple Hardware Extended Test (received error message "25TH/1/3: CPU B AD7417AD1");
    Installed iStat Pro and Temperature Monitor;
    Reset the SMU;
    Looked into System/Library/Extentions/AppleFan.kext and inside the package's contents I found a folder called 'MacOS' and inside is a file called 'AppleFan'. I've deleted a huge amount of gibberish, but this is what is inside the file:

    Ouch!
    At any given time, CPU B's temperature is shown almost 50 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than CPU A. The ambient temperature around both CPUs is within a few degrees. And sure enough, I took a flashlight and looked in the grill and CPU A's intake and exhaust fans are spinning away. CPU B's fans are turning very slowly. The computer 'thinks' CPU B is cool, and doesn't spin the fans up. So, CPU B is overheating and hangs the whole machine. When I open the case and feel the radiators around the CPUs, B is much hotter than A.
    Interestingly enough, last night I turned on the A/C in the room and put a Vornado house fan blowing into the front grill, and the computer ran like a watch. As a matter of fact, I ran the Apple Hardware Extended Test during this time and no errors were reported. As I write this, I can reach down, turn off the Vornado, and in about ten minutes the computer will freeze up.
    I've going to guess that when the power supply fried, it did something to the temperature sensor on CPU B. So, I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I could get a new CPU, but I can buy a used example of this model computer for about what the processor will cost. And who knows what the condition of the power supply will be in another used machine!
    Anyway, does anyone know how to set the intake/exhaust fans on an individual CPU to full speed? Short of putting an additional fan in front of CPU B, locking its intake/exhaust fans on high seems like it might work. Or at least keep the machine working until I can save my pennies and buy a new machine.
    Any other suggestions?

    Well, for some reason, the website won't let me post the code from inside the file. Here is the last bit of my question:
