Non-unicode printing unreadable character for Thai

Hello All,
Our current system 4.7 running on Oracle datavase on Window NT server, codepage set to 8600 with supported TH and EN.
Previously, user logon as 'blank' and set character (at user setting) to 'TH', the printing of SAP documents to printer is able to print TH language.
However, there is recent 'EN' activated via I18N without the any changes to the instance profile and printer id, the printing to printer is unreadable character although we are able to read TH for table, and online document in SAP system.
Our database code page is 1100 and 8600. and the installed language are 2DE. In RSCPINTST, there are GE, EN and TH.
Is it because we have 3 languages in the RSCPINTST, and need to remove 'GE'?
May i know what would be the problem, as i have searched through the forum.
Can please advice? Thank you

Hi Claudia,
You need to verify if German language was always active on the system or if it was only recently activated in error. If it was, it needs to be removed to return you to your former configuration (provided no German data was saved to the database while active, as this data will be lost once German is removed). I would therefore presume the issue would then no longer occur.
I would assume that the issue is occuring as English was configured to use code page 8600 - i.e. when you used to logon to the system teh code page was loaded and English and Thai characters could be input. Now the German language is active, hence the system probably has 2 code pages active (8600 and 1100) and by default English is now using 1100. Hence when using English now, code page 1100 is loaded which cannot interpret Thai characters -- hence the incorrect printing.
So, it is vital to check why German is now active on the system and why it was introduced.
I hope this helps,
Regards,
Safina Hillis

  • How will I know my existing DB is in Unicode or Non-Unicode

I know you will get character set information with following query.
    select PARAMETER, value from nls_database_parameters
    where parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET';
Result is : WE8MSWIN1252 (My DB is hosted on Windows server 2003 64Bit Machine and created using default parameter)
My Question is how do I know that WE8MSWIN1252 is unicode- or non-unicode ?
    Thank you for reading.
    Thanks

Only the values 'AL32UTF8' and 'UTF8' indicate an Unicode encoding if returned by this query. All other character sets are non-Unicode. The query:
    select PARAMETER, value from nls_database_parameters
where parameter = 'NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET';can also return AL16UTF16, which is Unicode as well, but this character set is valid for NCHAR/NVARCHAR2/NCLOB data types only.

Currently im using the open dataset with default then it hit a codepage error. I found out that the file contained characters that is not UTF-8 so when i changed the open dataset to non-unicode the codepage error goes away. Im wondering if there is any effect of changing from default to non-unicode.

OPEN DATASET P_AFILE FOR INPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT ignoring conversion errors.
ADD ignoring conversion errors to ur prg

  • How to Copy a Non-unicode ECC 6.0 SR3 to WIN2008 and MSSQL2008

    Good morning,
how can I make a homogeneous system copy of my NON-UNICODE ECC 6.0 (Nw 7.0 SR3) to a new machine running Windows  Server 2008 and MSSQL 2008?
According to OSS note 1152240 to install SR3 on SQL2008 I have to generate and use  a "SR3 modified installation master DVD".
My problem is that SR3 installation disk doesn't allow non-unicode installations.
Can I use SR2 installation disk, and modify it the some way I should do with SR3 installation disk?
Note 1054740 says "SAP products prior to NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 are not supported on Windows Server 2008", but I would
not run the SR2 system, just perform the installation and copy my "SR3 database" back. This should not be a problem as the
diference between SR2 and SR3 is at support package level. Is this correct?
Can the SR2 installation disk be changed in the some way of the SR3 disk, as described on note 1152240, and be used with
    SQL2008?
Is there any way to move non-unicode ECC 6.0 to WIN2008 + SQL2008?
    Thank you
    Best regards

    Hi,
If you are copying you can create a NON Unicode system, The installation for NEW systems is only permited for Unicode but if you are using SAPInst for copying your system, then it will ask if you are copying an Unicode system or not and will left it Non Unicode in the Target. So you could copy your system with no problem I´m pretty sure about this because we are running some copies (8 systems) and we have non unicode systems and we are using SR3 master DVD.
Just do the chages to the master DVD so you could use it on Win2008
    Have a nice day.

  • How to print a QR code on a non postscript printer?

    Hi experts,
I  wanted to output a QR code on my smartform and I actually successed by following the steps of Robert Russell's instruction(his blog). But it turns out that if you want to print a QR code then you must use a postscript printer but not a normal(?) printer such as the one in my office(Canon LBP3910).
    I have tried to:
download the newest  version  of driver about  Canon LBP3910 and import it as a new device type into SAP. Then edit the spool format(insert credit, bwipp encode ,render to format DINA4) and print control . Assign this device type to my printer.
I tried several times but it didn't work at all. So I wonder if we can print a QR code on a non postscript printer.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Fonts for printing - unicode or non-unicode

Hi, How could i find whether the fonts am using for scripts and smartforms are unicode compatible or not.
    Regards,
    Vijayalakshmi

    Hello Kyle,
    thank you very much.
I have think that I can install the j2ee engine unicode or non unicode. And I can install SAP EP with unicode or non unicode.
There is a cd from SAP its named "NON_Unicode_INST_Master_CD".
In this cd it gives a path "IM08_SOLARIS_64/SAPINST/UNIX/SUNOS_64".
And there is a sapinst. With this sapinst I can install a portal.
Is this portal then a unicode installation, although it is placed on the "NON_Unicode_INST_Master_CD"?

  • Unable to display Chinese character in non-unicode system properly.

    Hi, all
My system has been upgraded from 4.6C to 6.0 which is non-unicode system. Chinese characters with long length will be cut and cannot wrap automatically. But it's OK to alphabetes. How could I resolve this?
    Thanks..

The simple and easy way to check
non-unicode character sets are not supported on unicode system any longer. Am I right?
    Transaction code i18N
    Select
trouble shooting --> printing  test --> smartforms --> multiple scripts, select your output device and see print preview. it will display all supported characters.
I guess, above information will be useful for closing the thread.

  • Scanning files for non-unicode characters.

Question: I have a web application that allows users to take data, enter it into a webapp, and generate an xml file on the servers filesystem containing the entered data. The code to this application cannot be altered (outside vendor). I have a second webapp, written by yours truly, that has to parse through these xml files to build a dataset used elsewhere.
Unfortunately I'm having a serious problem. Many of the web applications users are apparently cutting and pasting their information from other sources (frequently MS Word) and in the process are embedding non-unicode characters in the XML files. When my application attempts to open these files (using DocumentBuilder), I get a SAXParseException "Document root element is missing".
I'm sure others have run into this sort of thing, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to tackle this problem. Obviously I'm going to have to start pre-scanning the files for invalid characters, but finding an efficient method for doing so has proven to be a challenge. I can load the file into a String array and search it character per character, but that is both extremely slow (we're talking thousands of LONG XML files), and would require that I predefine the invalid characters (so anything new would slip through).
I'm hoping there's a faster, easier way to do this that I'm just not familiar with or have found elsewhere.

require that I predefine the invalid charactersThis isn't hard to do and it isn't subject to change. The XML recommendation tells you here exactly what characters are valid in XML documents.
However if your problems extend to the sort of case where users paste code including the "&" character into a text node without escaping it properly, or they drop in MS Word "smart quotes" in the incorrect encoding, then I think you'll just have to face up to the fact that allowing naive users to generate uncontrolled wannabe-XML documents is not really a viable idea.

Printopia is another option but be aware that since these solutions effectively act as a print server and AirPrint receiver, they require a computer to be running on the same WiFi network.
Canon also has a couple of apps in the App Store that might facilitate this on non-AirPrint printers. Check out...

  • Handling Tab Delimited File generation in non-unicode for multi byte lang

    Hi,
    Requirement:
We are generating a Tab Delimited File in different languages (Single Byte and Multi Byte) and placing the files at application server.
    Problem:
Our system is a Non-unicode system so we are facing problems with generation of Tab delimited file for multibyte languages like Russian, Japanese, Chinese etc.,
I am actually using data: d_tab TYPE X value '09' but it dont work for multi byte. I cant see tab delimited file at application server path.
Any thoughts about how to proceed on this issue? Please let me know.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pavan

    > Thanks for your answer but do you reckon cl_abap_char_utilities will be a work around for data: d_tab type X VALUE '09' .
    > Pavan.
On a non-unicode system the X Variant is working, but not on a unicode system. Here you must use the class. On the other hand you can use the class on a non-unicode system und your char var will always be correct (one byte/twobyte depending on which system your report is running).
What you are planning to do is to put a file with an amount of possible characters into a system with has a less amount of characters. Thats not working in no way.
What you can do is to build up a multi-code-page system where the codepage is bound to the user or bound to the logon-language. Here you you can read and process textfiles in several codepages - but not a textfile in unicode. You have to convert the unioce textfile into a non-unicode textfile before processing it.
Remember that SAP does not support multi-code-page Systems anymore and multi-code-page systems will result in much more work when converting the system to unicode.
Even non-unicode system will not be maintained by SAP in the near future.
What you encounter here are problems for what unicode was developped. A unicode system can handle non-unicode textfiles, but the other way round will always lead to problems which cant be solved.

  • Target system install problem (SAPINST searching for Non unicode kernel)

    Hi,
I'm currently performing a unicode conversion (from 4.7 to EHP4). I am finished with the upgrade and I'm now in the unicode conversion part.
I have completed the export and selected unicode as the target system. I am done with source system uninstallation and I'm now installing the unicode target system.  I have selected unicode during the parameter selection (it's the default option anyway) but during the part where it will ask for the kernel DVD, it doesn't accept the path of my unicode kernel (and instead looks for the non-unicode kernel)

    Hi Markus,
Thanks for your response. This problem is now resolved. It turns out that there are some remaining files from the old /usr/sap/<> and /sapmnt/SID/exe that were not deleted yet (after uninstalling for non unicode system). I proceeded to delete again these files and ensure that there are no files from the non unicode system

  • Problems realted to changing the language for non-Unicode programs from one into anther.

    Hi,
    Hi everyone!
    Product Name: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex
    Product Number : LM610EA#A2N.
My Windows 7(464Bit) Ultimate,  and its base language, and display language is English.
The Languages(English, French and Arabic) built-in (came re-downloaded and re-installed by the person who made the Windows disc installation). Thus, while installing Windows 7, those three lanauge listed for me to choose one of them to be the base language
and display language, I have chosen 'English'. In the End of installation, there are three pre-packaged languages(English and French and Arabic) can be used as a display language.
I would like anyone kindly to confirm for me why I have been facing these problems when changing  language for non-Unicode programs from English into Arabic.
First: After I have installed the  AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver (sp55092) 8.882.2.3000 on my laptop. The contents of the of Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel are partially shown in Arabic while language for non-Unicode programs
is Arabic, however, they are completely shown in English while language for non-Unicode programs is English.
A: I found that contents of the of Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel are partially shown in Arabic (second screen shot below, however,
when click on any options, for example 'Graphics properties' shown in Arabic in, the second window is shown in English) while language for non-Unicode programs is
Arabic, and it doesn't matter what format or location is.
B- when I changed language for non-Unicode programs into
    English.
I found that contents of the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel are completely shown in English .
    Second:
A- Only All Arabic contents will be displayed encryptely while language for non-Unicode programs is English
B-  All the Arabic contents are displayed properly   while language for non-Unicode programs is  Arabic.
Third: an error extracting drivers and software downloaded from official HP website while language for non-Unicode programs is English.
A-  I noticed an error extracting all kinds of comprised files(drivers and software) downloaded from HP website while language for non-Unicode programs is English and whatever location and format are:
B- However  while language for non-Unicode programs is Arabic, there is no error extracting files.
    In conclusion, Is it normal
for all of you the contents of the of Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel are partially shown in your native while  language  used
for non-Unicode programs is your native lanague, however, they are completely shown in English while language for non-Unicode programs is English?.  IF so I would be saying that if I have wanted the  contents of documents written in my language
Arabic to be shown properly, then then I
must let the language for non-Unicode programs be Arabic.
Is this happens with you as well?
Also, if I need extracting all kinds of comprised files(drivers and software) downloaded from HP website, then language for non-Unicode programs
must be in my Arabic lanague English and whatever location and format are.
Is this happened with you as well?
I would highly appreciate any clarification from you.
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

    Hi,
I am confused about your issue.
when you changed language for non-Unicode programs into  English, it show English.
while language for non-Unicode programs is Arabic, it show Arabic, If it's none-Unicode.
This is correct. Why you think it's an issue?
About your second scenario description, I was not clear what you said. Could you give us a explanation?
Note: System display language is not the un-Unicode program language.
You can just choose one language to display the system at same time.
