Non-updating desktop - hidden icons

This has been baffling me for ages. A quite normal OS X install. If I save files or copy files to my desktop, I often don't see them until I reboot, or it does some background refresh. If I go to finder, I can sometimes see them, and if I go to Spotlight, it will always find the file and show it to be in my users/me/desktop folder - although clearly - the file isn't showing on the desktop.
It's not the end of the world - but it is an odd one. Thanks for your help.

Open Terminal from inside /Applications/Utilities and type the following, pressing Return at the end:
rm ~/Desktop/.DS_Store
If that doesn't work then try this one:
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Desktop shortcut icons after 8.1.1 update

I installed the 8.1.1 update and now I have two itunes shortcut icons on desktop. However I can't delete either of them and neither will launch itunes. Also sometimes when I launch itunes from starter menu it creates a third desktop shortcut icon.

First, remove the SIM, clean its contacts with a pencil eraser, and re-insert it.
If that doesn't fix it restore your phone using iTunes on your computer.

On Finder Freeze/Relaunch All my desktop files & icons disappear

The title sums it up.
When ever my mac decides to go into spinning wheel mode and I have to force quit/relaunch finder, when I relaunch finder every desktop file & icon disappear.
At that point I'm forced to push the shutdown button on the tower and reboot, then all is well until the next time.
And the next time could be a day or a few days or a week. No rhyme or reason why.
Please help me solve this frustrating problem.

Cloud backup plans can slow your Mac down, and if used simultaneously with your Mac's networking, or you have an unreliable internet connection, could be the cause of your freezes. You may be better off seeing if turning off iCloud temporarily helps. This can especially be a problem with non-Apple routers whose firmware may not be up to date. Multitasking with backups can lead to corruption of your backups. Time Machine should only backup to hard drives twice the capacity of the original, otherwise it spends a lot of time trying to discover which archives to eraes to maintain room. Energy Saver can also create problems for backups, as it takes a moment for the Mac to recognize the connection. Use screen saver instead of Energy Saver when backing up. System Preferences lets you control both. Putting hard drives to sleep when backing up is ill advised.

Desktop Problem-Icons Won't Work or Won't Adjust

Yesterday my desktop icons decided to not work. I could not open from the desktop, move folders, etc. It is as if they were all locked. I COULD open Finder, go to Desktop, and open files and start apps from there. Then I went to View Options, clicked Snap To Grid, and all icons moved. I then turned it off (None). But the icons won't respond. They are stuck in "Snap to Grid." I still can't open a folder on the desktop, but applications will now start.
This is a bizarre one. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been having this problem as well, restarting only corrects it for about an hour or so. Was not able to find the library com.apple.finder.plist file in my library and then did a universal search using that string and no results. Not sure why other people have that preference file and I don't. This is a frustrating problem that will influence my decision to purchase new Macs in the future. It's a real time waster. In addition, often when I click on a folder, it comes up empty, even though there may be hundreds of files in the folder. It seems it's part of the same problem, inasmuch as the finder can't process data nodes correctly. The only solution is to open the folder, close it, and open it again and then the files inside it appear, albeit slowly.

To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
What i want is--
Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
Please suggest me.

While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.

And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

Hp remote connection, hundreds of hidden icons!

I have a strange problem lately. When I open my 'hidden icons' link in my task bar, I am seeing hundreds of HP Remote Connection icons. I have never seen this before. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like, when I click the link "View Hidden Links". I have all the normal icons showing at the bottom, but there are hundreds of purple icons, and I don't know why. I tried to click on them and nothing happens. Here is a screen shot of what I see :

I understand tha you are having issues with the HP Connected Remote App showing numerous icons on your HP computer. I am providing you with the only HP Support document: HP PCs - Using the HP Connected Remote App (Windows 8) that I can find pertaining to your issue. I recommend that you review the document for any help it may offer (possibly adjust settings for how you are using the applications, being sure to make sure the software is updated as well. If you are not using the software then I would suggest you use the section that shows how to disable it.
If the above document does not help you and this is a new issue then I would suggest that you use the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8) to simply roll your system back to a point in time where this issue did not occur.

[Windows] Spotify Window or Title and MenuBar is left on a Windows 7 non-Aero desktop after exit

DescriptionSpotify' 1.0.10.107 leaves its Title bar, MenuBar, and frame on screen after a /File/Exit or a window [X] close when a Windows 7 non-Aero desktop theme is in use. Sometimes the entire window is left. The spotify.exe processes terminate, though SpotifyWebHelper remains. The Title bar or window has no parent and its menu bar is inactive. It is not redrawn if an object is dragged over it or by a right-click refresh. The window vanishes properly if the “Close Button Should Minimize Spotify” advanced setting is selected and Spotify is then exited from the icon in the tray. The Spotify window vanishes as expected with a fast zoom effect if any of the Windows 7 Aero themes is in use regardless of the above advanced setting.. A more detailed description, using numbered stepsWas using a Windows 7 Basic Theme with a black desktop background. Observed the above-described behavior with unknown Spotify version, believe it to have been 1.0.10.107

That you have encountered this in other apps suggests a flaw in a library common to those apps and to Spotify or some particular tool that was used to build them. I was able to replicate it on three different Win7 machines with two different CPU and graphics configurations. I couldn’t replicate it on a Windows 10 upgrade of one of those but I regard that machine as experimental until other apps more critical to me have been confirmed or made compatible with Windows 10. Windows 7 will be my workhorse for some time, so the best workaround for me is to accept the “close button should minimize Spotify” setting and the risk of leaving it active in the notification area while streaming to no one. The alternative workaround is to refresh the non-Aero desktop after closing it. It’s a second click either way.

Key flexfield - protecting one of the segment as NON-UPDATABLE/ READ-ONLY

Key Flexfield setup for "People Group Flexfield" consists of seeg1,seg2,seg3,seg4.
We would like to make Seg1 of this flexfield "READ ONLY" / "DISPLAY ONLY" / "Non-Updatable".
Please advise possible way of making this functionality.
I have tried, following but no luck :
1) Limitations of Forms Personalization [ID 420518.1]
Forms Personalization is not possible for any key flexfield structure or segments.
This is a limitation of Forms Personalization on Flexfield. There was an enhancement request Bug 5506506 - "PERSONALIZE FLEXFIELDS BY USING FORMS PERSONALIZATION" but it was rejected the enhancement request as this is not feasible. A Flexfield is a single field in a form but then when you click into it and it opens up the flexfields window, the multiple fields you see is actually a user exit with multi segment values, not form fields. No Form Personalization events are passed to flexfield windows (user exits). No Form Personalization events are passed to segments inside the flexfield window (user exit).
2) Key Flexfield Security Rules Enabled
Defining security rules on any segment in key flexfield makes all segments as read only. Per Oracle Document:"Defining security rule on key flexfield combination on one or more segments allows all segments to be not updatable"

In SSHR, I believe it is possible although I have not done it before, I have spoken to people who have.
You need to have access to jDeveloper and be able to open up the SSHR page in question. Find the internal ID of the flex item within the SSHR page in question.
Then you create a new item in personalization and set that new item to have the same ID as you retrieved from jDeveloper. Make that item read only and configured the 'default' flex to not show the segment in question.
That is basically the way this can be achieved but it is not straightforward and requires a cursory understanding of OAF.
I do not know if it is possible to do this in the PUI. Would be interested to know requirement behind essentially showing a static read only field in a professional form - can the admins not be trusted to leave it alone? One workaround would be coding a user hook or custom library to error if that field is updated. Not read only but would stop those pesky Administrators meddling with it!

Problem with non-updated idocs

Hi,
we have a problem after upgrading from 3.5 to 7.0. Lots of extractors end
in an error-message concerning non-updated idocs. Every day several
extractors have this problem. This are not always the same extractors. As
a result we must repair many extractions manually.
I know the procedure of how to repair, but I want te know how I can prevent
extractors from running into this problem in the first place.
Any suggestions?

It has been happening on our env as well (BI 7.0 SP 12), time to time one load or the other gets into this problem and it waits yellow for few hrs before turning red.
I can correct the IDOC and move on or run the load again it works fine.. but the process chain gets held up not going to the next stage for hrs..
any resolution on your problem..

Drag and drop folders to desktop printer icon

I would like to drag and drop folders containing various documents, such as word, excel, pdf, to a desktop printer icon and have all the documents within the folder print automatically.
Does anyone know if it is possible, and if so, how to do so?

That's not possible - dragging a folder, as I am sure you have seen, will print the contents of the folder.
By automatic print, I meant that the print dialouge
window would not open and require the print button to
be selected, ie, simply drag a folder and all the
documents start printing without further input/action.
The closest you'll get, I think, is dragging a group of documents of the same kind that are handled without presenting the print dialog - pdf or text files. It depends on the file types, the printer to a degree, and how the receiving application handles the Apple Events.

Setting check box (in detail block) as (non) updatable...

I have a master-detail form. The form does execute a query when it opens. Now, according to a condition i want to do the check box(in detail block) as non- updatable.
I have tried to write the appropriate code in:
WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE(in the master block level)
WHEN-NEW-ITEM-INSTANCE (in the detail block level)
POST-QUERY(in the detail block level)
but it does not work 'perfectly'. I mean that in most cases even one of the above triggers does not execute (for example the 'WHEN-NEW-RECORD-INSTANCE' but only after i click on this new record instance. I mean that after this on this new record the condition is estimated....)
or
it does execute but after i click on the checkbox (for example the 'WHEN-NEW-ITEM-INSTANCE').
The code i tried looks like the following:

I build a little testform based on HR-schema-table DEMO_USERS and switch each second record to be not updateable, works without problems (code from POST-QUERY-trigger):

BD87 Update Idocs manually.
1. When you look in the Monitor screen for the first time on a day you mostly will see some Loads that have yellow traffic lights. When you click on the lowest line of the Load (with the time of Load start) you will get the next popup screen:
2. Here you can click on the "Yes" button. The Load specification window (right side of the screen) will now be filled with data.
3. You can now start the manual processing of the IDocs. You go to the "Details" tabpage of the right window. You right click on the line with the red traffic light stating "Request IDoc : IDoc ready to be transferred to application" on the "Details" tab page of the Load. In the option menu that appears choose the option "Update manually in OLTP" (click it).
4. You will get to the next screen (which is in fact a transaction in the source system (SAP R/3) where you can update the IDoc that is send by the source system)
5. Now click the "Excecute" button on the left of the screen (or press the F8 button on your keyboard). You will get to the next screen:
6. This states that the IDoc has been passed through to BW. You return to BW by clicking the "Back" button (or pressing the F3 button on your keyboard) twice. After the first time you will see the previous screen and after that the Monitor screen again.
7. You will now see that the Status of the Load has turned to yellow or green. When it is yellow you will have to wait a little time (the execution of the Load in BW is still running) and by clicking "Refresh Details" button on the left upper side of the screen (or pressing the F8 button on your keyboard) you will see the Load turn green.

Ctrl+Shift+T Creates Hidden Icon

Before whenever I pressed ctrl+shit+t it would just open my most recently closed tab, but now for some reason it reduces Firefox into the hidden icon folder in the right side of the taskbar(next to the wifi and battery). Has anyone else had this problem?

R3 to BW Extraction fails: Non-updated Idocs found in Source System

We load data from R3 to BW and this process has been successful for the past few days except last night. The error msg is listed below in between two dashed lines:

Diagnosis
IDocs were found in the ALE inbox for Source System that are not updated.
Processing is overdue.
Error correction:
Attempt to process the IDocs manually. You can process the IDocs manually using the Wizard or by selecting the IDocs with incorrect status and processing them manually.
I checked the system connection by right click the source system in the Source System page on BW and selecting "Check" and "Customizing for Extractors" from the context menu and find everything works fine.
Any idea about the IDOC thing?

With WE05, find some records with yellow status. How to find some missing data here?
With BD87, under BW system folder, there are two folders:
1. IDocs in outbound processing
2. IDoc in inbound processing
Under 1st folder, there is one yellow status folder called "IDoc ready for dispatch (ALE service)", continue to expand another folder called CREMAS under it, there is a blue information line which is "Receiver found , Data filtered , No conversion , No version change".
Under 2nd folder, there is one yellow status folder called "IDoc ready to be transferred to application", continue to expand other two folder under it called "BBPIV" and "RSRQST", find there is a red flash status line which is "No resources, immed. processing not possible: Too few free dialog work" under these two folders.
I need to go ahead to select these two red flash status lines and then press the Process button at the top bar?
