Non web-based content in portal

Hi all,
Is it possible to run ordrinary windows-applications with a GUI-screen, for example MS Outlook, in or from within the portal?
If yes: Where can I find out more?

I don't know much about the portal, but I attended a couple of cources last fall. Never used the product since then, and I can't remember too much form the cources. My boss keeps asking me questions about the portal, and lucky me told him that I beleived the content had to be web based, like for example Outlook Web Access. He wasn't pleased with my answer, so I keep seraching...
I came over Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server . Maybe that coud be the solution(?)

I don't work for Sun but here are my thoughts
1. Yes, if you don't want to use the AM SDK then the
XML auth service is the way to go.
2 & 3. dunno
4. I think if you pass around the SSOToken ID
generated by AM then any application can issue a SAML
query to see if the session is still valid and get
identity/auth attributes back
5. I think SAML 2.0 supports authentication and
single signoff
6. If you are doing a lot of thick client apps you
should use kerberos instead of AM web based
Authentication. AM supports kerberos authentication,
most modern browsers support SPEGNO for passing
credentials to web server, AD supports Kerberos, and
even Solaris 10 comes with a free KDC built into the
OS. There is plenty of documentation around kerberos
and the JDK out of the box supports GSS-API for
Kerberos authenticationThank you for your feedback.
We looked at the use of kerberos as well, but this is not really an option as we are dealing with fat clients installed on desktops of clients. So these desktops do not fall within our span control (multiple domain controllers etc.).

Non web-based to-do list

I don't have wireless access to the internet all of the time yet would still like to be able to manage a to-do list on my ipod touch. Any suggestions? All of the apps online seem to be web-based.

Create a dummy contact and put your to do list in the notes section. Or wait until after February (when the Software Development Kit will be released) and see if anyone comes out with a non-web based To Do app.
Personally, I go with the small paper notebook....

Is it possible to create a rendition targeted for the web based content viewer?

The way PDFs render in the web broswer is (presently) pretty bad.
Can we create a rendition of a Folio which is specifically (and only) for the purpose of being viewed in the web based content viewer?
Also can we leverage the downloading options in the Folio Producer to yield better results and less lags in rendering? I would like to suggest that Adobe adds some kind of indicator/status-bar which shows remiaing assets still being downloaded. For example, video overlays aren't immediately available.
Despite these quirks, this new capability is huge and we really appreciate it!

The scope is to define the architecture using

Liferay as the Content management System.
Architecture
The architecture followed here is disconnected where the SAP system, the BAPI and the Liferay are setup to be disconnected, when there is a need of data all three systems connect together and the data is queried and posted. The data is queried form Liferay using BAPI and the response is them posted to Liferay. Liferay will be responsible to process the data using its inbuilt features and post the final information to SAP for further processing it.

Liferay User Defined tables
SAP system as an ERP which holds the Employee information. Business Application Programming Interfaces (BAPIs) enable access to SAP functions by making use of Java Connector (JCo). Liferay will make of BAPIs for creating, retrieving and updating information in SAP system. Liferay holds the Web User Interface. Liferay internally has its own database which contains many user defined tables. The Organization Unit (OU) details which include Users, Roles, Communities, Organization is stored in Liferayu2019s internal database.
Transaction Flow
The data transaction pattern in this application needs to go thru a series of events to complete the cycle of posting information to sap.
Where a transaction is started the data first resides into a temporary location under liferay database, exposing itself to workflow, the workflow will then pick the data for its process if there is no workflow setup it is considered the record as approved and post the data to sap. Else it will expose the record to the respective levels and positions and wait until the records gets approved. Once the record is approved it is posted to SAP.
The Flow diagram below shows how the data is transacted to sap system.

How to transport web xml content in portal

Hi Everyone,
I have created web xml content in my dev portal which has user messages.Now i wanr to transport all these to QA portal.i have transported all the content using KM content transport procedure. i even transported /etc/xmlforms.
now if i check in QA portal i can see all the message links but when i click these links,a window pops up with XML code of that particular form instead of that message.
Is there anything which i have forgotten or which needs to be done.

But now my problem is that when i edit or create new message in my QA Portal it doesnt reflect in my User message area or in the messages list.

Dialog programming (non-web based)

We have been running SAP for a number of years and have a number of custom tables and custom ABAP report programs. At this point we use spreadsheet uploads and sm30 to maintain our custom tables. We are now looking at getting into Dialog programming, we will be running these dialog programs with in the SAP GUI not over the internet.
Most of the web sites I have found for dialog programming in ABAP are talking about Web dynpro. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between Web dynpro and non-web dialog programming?

Thanks for the replies this is what I thought.
It is being suggested that we can write a dialog using Web dynpro and have it display and act exactly the same over the internet and within the GUI. So that the user experience is the same no matter which method they use.
This sounds logical to me.
When I read the link I clicked on the dynpro link and then went to up 2 levels to the u2018SAP GUI Technologyu2019 page and found the following:
Although screen programming permits, in principle, the use of the model-view-controller approach, this is not explicitly supported by the Framework or the existing tools. There is therefore a significant mixing of presentation and application logic within a program in most screen-based applications. To achieve better maintainability, you should therefore structure the user interfaces of new ABAP-based applications with Web << OLE Object: Picture (Metafile) >> Dynpro ABAP, even if no use of the Internet is currently intended.
This would imply that that using web dynpro you can create a dialog that looks and acts the same over the internet and within the GUI.
We found a Blog with the title Web Dynpro: Running Web Dynpro Applications over SAPGUI that makes reference to the function module WDY_EXECUTE_IN_PLACE, with a parameter INTERNALMODE = u2018Xu2019 that will allow the screen to be displayed in the SAP GUI.
Then I was directed to SAP NOTE 1098009 which says:
· No SAP GUI support
The use of Web Dynpro ABAP applications inside SAP GUI is not supported due to technical restrictions which may inhibit the correct behavior of applications under some circumstances.
· No support for SAP GUI dynpros
Note that in an input help which is called by Web Dynpro ABAP classic SAP GUI based dynpros are not supported. From NetWeaver 7.0 SP12 onwards there is no longer a program dump, but a message is displayed accordingly, so that the application can be continued.
There seems to be conflicting information out there. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can you please point me to some documentation that will explain if this is possible or not.

Update of reader causes issue with web based content

I have just downloaded the latest update for Adobe Reader x and I am now experiencing a problem when opening a pdf document from the internet. I am now getting a message "before proceeding you must first launch adobe acrobat and accept the end user license agreement" which does not make sense. When I click on the ok button nothing happens. If I open the reader and then select the document it opens correctly.
Can anyone provide some clue as to what the configuration setting is to turn off this "feature" please?

I'm definitely not willing to re-install Photoshop, so I'm not going to try that whole procedure. But it is interesting to see some Acrobat entries in the registry alongside the Reader entries:

500 Internal error observed while accessing a Static Web based course

Storing non-schema based data

Hi!
(1)When I use ftp or win explorer to transfer a file to the repository it works and I can see the doc and its contents in the OEM/win explorer. This file is not based on any registered schema. In what tables does it get stored in scott's schema?
(2)also on trying to access the repository resources, very frequently the win explorer gives error messages saying that 'The current operation can not be completed as an unexpected error has occurred'.

Non-schema based XML in the repository are handled by a "default" XMLSchema,
which is XDBSchema.xsd. Is it true?What I meant by XDB schema, is a set of database tables owned by the Database User XDB. The contents of these tables are exposed to other database users as the RESOURCE_VIEW and PATH_VIEW. There are a number of tables that provide the infrastructure that supported the XML DB repository. These tables should never be accessed directly.
All non schema based content is stored in the XML DB repository. The primary table in the XML DB repository is XDB$RESOURCE, which is an XMLType table, as you can see from the following:

Printer skips lines and enlarges font between web based pages.

I've seen this happen when the Page Setup on the FireFox browser was set to 80% (or probably anything less than 100%). Check that setting and change to 100% and reprint.

Web Based Application Single Sign on With Enterprise Portal

Good day Developers,
My question is really a two part question so forgive me in advance for asking in one post as I think they are relative to each other. My project is currently exlporing the creation of functionality that will allow the following:
1. We want to allow a secure Web Based application possessing the abilitiy to auithenticate the user into Enterprise Portal and by passing the login screen to get to a landing page/iview in our Enterprise Portal instannce.
2. We want the abilitity to perform a check of the user and create the user in the enterprise portal on the fly if they do not already exist.
So far in my research I've come across tools and white papers mentioning the use rof oAuth and OpenID. Is that the right way to tackle these two items. Thanks for your help in advance.

1. You can do SSO between you application and portal using Verisign or third party authentication tool. I am not pretty sure how landing page and all will work as you mentioned.
As portal is web based, you can deply your application in portal server. So that you will not need any other authentication tool.Also you can save effort , cost.
2. By deploying application in portal also you do not have to concentrate on User management, which is itself a huge effort you have to put. Else you can go for third party tools like Identity management or ADS.

In BI 7.0 the Queries which u devoleped can be broad casted by using two ways .
1. Enterprise portal
2.Web Application Designer(WAD)
So you can choose any of the option, For the Option 1 you should have seperate server for the EP or else For option 2 you have to make some setting in the BI system to enable the Web reports..

Portal Eventing between Web DynPro Java iView and non-Web DynPro iView

Dear Experts,
I have 1 Web DynPro Java iView and 1 non-Web DynPro (using JSPDynPage and JSP) iView, both attached to a page. When Web DynPro Java iView fire a portal raise event, the portal iView did not execute the javascript function tied to the event subscribed.
Here is the code snippet which reside in the Web DynPro Java iView that is used to fire the event

Note:
1. When Web DynPro Java iView fire the portal event the entire page is refreshed, including the non-WDP iView.
2. When EPCM is replaced with window.top.EPCM, the page is refreshed, it is totally hanged with progress bar.
Can anyone help to solve this problem?
