Non-working trackpad button

The button with the track pad doesn't work. At the moment I don't have the wireless mouse so I can't cross reference but I can use the track pad to move around but I can not select anything (anything). When I restart I will often have a few minutes of operability but then the same thing happens. If I can figure out the keyboard commands, they work. And just now (I am on a different computer) I looked at the Mac and it was caught in a manic switching between going to sleep and being awake (about half a second on each). Any help will be appreciated.
Yesterday an automatic update from Apple was loaded, though I can't recall which.
thanks,
Corey

Apple handles this with replacement iPhone 4S for $199. Try software work-around, Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > Device > Lock Screen. Use this to turn iPhone OFF. To turn iPhone ON, connect to power, charger or USB of computer.

  • Frozen iPod touch with non-working lock button.

My daughter's iPod has frozen on a web page. The lock button doesn't work so she uses the assistive touch but even that won't work and can't do a hard reset...help,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode,
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Well, after updating to IOS8  on my iPhone 5 the functionality of tipping the "today" area in calendar app isn't working any more.
Also the sync of appointments and other calendar entries of my iMac and mac book are no longer synced to my iPhone.
Seems to be an issue with the latest IOS version.

    No.
Try a reset first. If that doesn't solve it, do a restore. If it still isn't solved go the Apple store. It should be returnable for full refund in the first two weeks.

  • My trackpad button

    Hi folks,
well, this has been discussed before, but when comparing the trackpad button of my MacBook Pro with that of my (two days old) MacBook, I noticed the following:
On my MBP, no matter where I press down on the trackpad button, I always hear and feel a clear and noticable click. With my MB, I only get this kind of feedback when I press down the trackpad button very close to the middle - when I press it down more on the sides, I don't really hear or feel a click.
Now I've read about people's MB trackpad buttons actually not working - they press it down and nothing happens. This certainly isn't the case for me - no matter where I press down my MB's trackpad button, it will always generate a click that is reliably recognized by the computer. So from a technical standpoint, it works fine, it's only that it feels and sounds differently (or not at all) compared to what I'm used to from my MBP.
Actually, I don't care much about it. I use a (Bluetooth) mouse 95% of the time anyway. And even when I'm using the trackpad, I'm never really using the button, but instead I'm a big fan of the tap-pad-surface-to-click features.
However, I still think I should have a working trackpad button, even though I don't use it much. Like I said, my button is technically working, my only fear, however, is that it might stop one day, and when I then bring it in to Apple under warranty, they might claim that I destroyed the trackpad button, or that this is normal component wear not covered by the warranty.
So, to sum it up: Button itself is working fine, I'm not using it very much anyway, and I'd really like to keep this machine, as it's otherwise completely fine! I'm only concerned that if the trackpad button should really fail one day while the warranty is still valid, Apple might not want to help me out.
Any hints what you folks would do? I'm certain I'll keep it (see above), but somehow, it gives me slighly bad feelings somewhere in my stomach.
    Greetings,
    Nils
MBP 1.83 GHz, MB 1.83 GHz white   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

My trackpad button was mushy too - here's what I did to make it better.
Power your MB down, flip it over and remove the battery. In the battery compartment there's a small circle (you'll know it when you see it) - it's directly under your trackpad button. Try pushing on it and click the trackpad button - putting pressure on the circle should make the button click more crisp.
To keep it this way, put a small folded-up piece of paper on the circle, then replace the battery, which will hold the paper in place. Worked for me!
(I should note that I found this solution on the web somewhere, so I can't claim credit for it.)
    I hope this helps,
    Matthew

  • Occasional MacBook Pro 8,1 / Feb 2011 trackpad button fails to work

Having this really annoying problem on occasion with a new 13" MBP (purchased a month ago in Toronto from the Apple Store Eaton) - every once in a while the trackpad button will fail to work. The trackpad will function just fine, but the button will not work no matter what you do. I also have a Magic Mouse; if the trackpad button won't work, neither will the MM.
It's a new MBP 8,1 running Lion, with 8gb RAM (1333mhz DDR3, 4gb per stick) and a new 1Tb drive. I will point out that this error preceded the RAM and HDD upgrade by some time, which suggests it's not due to the new components.
Being new, it doesn't run hot, nor is it due to a swollen battery. I spoke with a friend who suggested a PRAM reset. That didn't work; the behaviour started up again within 1 hour of resetting this.
I've noticed that it only seems to arise with Internet connectivity issues - if I turn WiFi off (on purpose as I want to save battery) and I leave a browser window open, chances are high that I won't even be able to log in using the trackpad button. In these cases I can usually use the keyboard with an Alt-Tab to switch out of hung applications, but it doesn't always work. If Safari is left open (say at a coffee shop) and I take the MBP home, and reconnect, it will frequently show this non-working button behaviour too.
Other 'remedies' or workarounds include re-enabling Wifi off and on again, but that doesn't always work; flipping the lid down, then reopening for another attempt at login doesn't always work either.
I took it back to the store 2 weeks ago, but they kept thinking it would be a hardware issue and wanted to replace the trackpad - without guaranteeing that this would solve the problem. And the fact that it does work again after a log off suggests to me it's not hardware, it's software.
Tonight after the coffee shop at lunch, the MBP button would not work after I returned home. Rebooting twice did not help.
    Any ideas, anyone?
    Cheers

Delete CleanMyMac2.  You do not need it and may be a contributing reason for your problem.
Check Activity Monitor for applications that may be using a lot of CPU resources:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203184
    Run an Apple Hardware Test:
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note that an error free AHT is not definitive.
You also might test the MBP with the original RAM module in place of the 8GB module you installed.  There may be compatibility issues.
    Ciao.

  • NONE of the buttons on my curve 8520 are working. HELP!

So, today I pulled out my phone and the screen was black. I took out the battery, put it back in and the LED just kept blinking. I pulled the battery out again and left it for a bit. It turned on, when it turned on my phone was locked. I couldn't press any buttons. No matter what it was, the four buttons on the top row, the trackpad or any of the keys weren't working. My phone still turns on normally but none of the buttons work.
    I have a Curve 8520.
    Thanks.

    Hi Nealeh
Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.
Sorry I can't post the pictures as the Lingerie Mfg, has me under non disclosure.
The scenario is:-  say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!
If i don't solve it, she will get fired!
Not a lack of interest in your post, but I was out, and tried to log in to this site; which I could do, on my iPad Air / 5 [whatever its the new one]. And tried to 'sign in' - but it just hung at the
"Join Adobe Community" adobe sign in splash screen! with he little whell spinning around continuously!!!
I have Safari on this iPad. Guess that is all it runs.
So technology is not my friend today!

  • Trackpad button not working on 2.53GHz MBP 13in...

    Hi Guys,
The trackpad button has just stopped working. It still clicks but nothing happens. Furthermore whilst using 'Tap to click' works I cannot drag anything to the trash or move anything at all unless I plug in a USB mouse.
The only thing I've done is a routine software update and restart!
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks

I have the same model and my trackpad has been acting weird ever since the OS update. I can't drag or highlight text...which means that single finger swipe action doesn't work anymore. I can still use 2 finger swipe action to scroll. Bizarre no?
I updated 10.6.6 on 2/23/11. I didn't notice this happening until last week on 3/3. Probably because this isn't my work Mac. I haven't updated the MBP at work and def afraid to right now.
I've been scouring the web and it seems like many people have various issues with their trackpad after this last upgrade. Someone said they had to reinstall the OS. UGH.
I tried changing trackpad settings that some people suggested. Still nothing. I'm about to head to the Genius Bar. Going to keep trying to find a solution.
I'm going to try replacing the trackpad. I'll let you know what happens...
Well I have just replaced the trackpad and that has solved my issues. I hope that solves a problem for you guys. You just need to locate a part and fit it. It's not difficult, just fiddly because the screws are very small.

My mini ipod appears off and not respond to any commands when pressed the buttons to reset, apple logo appeared and then the apple support site and it shuts down. already tried all the steps, but none worked, and when I plug it into my computer it does not appear in the iTunes bar. what do I do?

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

  • MBP 2.16 C2D Trackpad Button Quit Working

Booted my MBP 2.16 Core 2 Duo today and the trackpad button suddenly does not work. The trackpad itself is working (move my finger and the cursor follows), but physical clicks to the trackpad button or taps on the trackpad itself don't register as clicks.
Under Keyboard and Mouse preferences, the Mouse tab is also unavailable.
Any hints on what I can check? I've zapped PRAM, repaired permissions, don't have a bulging batter, etc, etc.
If I plug in an external moue, the system registers the clicks from the external mouse, but the trackpad button seems dead.
I'm under AppleCare, but before I call for the box, I thought I'd ask for help here first.
    Thanks,
    Randy

One correction: taps on the trackpad itself do register as clicks. Only physical clicks to the trackpad button don't work.
