Non working USB hub :(

Hi everyone!
First, excuse my (poor) english
I've just bought an USB hub, but it seems my MAc don't recognize it... It's an USB 2 with its power alimentation. Is there a solution to make it work?
This is a link to the hub description (in french) : http://www.boulanger.fr/hubessentielb_7_ports_-_snake/p_39270279459.htm
Translated : http://translate.google.fr/translate?js=y&prev=t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.boulanger.fr%2Fhub_essentiel b_7_ports_-_snake%2Fp_39270279459.htm&sl=fr&tl=en
Thanks!
Elie

So it turns out the user once again proves himself to be an idiot.
I had not taken into account a change of physical location. The hardline connection I'm attaching to is now signifcantly longer than previously and I think at the extreme limit of this adapters range. that would explain the initial connect then the no cable connection detected (not enough power to stay attached to the other end).
By my estimate it's only 12 or meters long so it looks like I've some cable tracing to do as something else must be at play here too.

  • Possible USB port damage using non-powered USB hub?

Referring to the recent discussion on ruining firewire ports with damaged peripherals, a related question concerning the possibility of damage to the USB port:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7948387#7948387
I have an old iPod Shuffle, USB only, and a camera card reader, both of which which get pulled and connected "on the fly" to a bus powered USB hub which is attached to one of the USB ports on the iMac. Am I risking similar damage to the iMac USB port, itself, if something goes bad on the Shuffle or the card reader? Should I be using a POWERED USB hub to avoid direct damage to the iMac USB hub? (And, assuming it will have to be USB 2.0, will it be backwards compatible to USB 1.1?)

No, my belief is that FireWire devices are more prone to damaging the circuitry behind the port due to connecting and disconnecting on-the-fly (compared to USB). There is supporting documentation on the web, for example.
    http://www.wiebetech.com/whitepapers/FireWirePortFailures.php
    http://lowendmac.com/misc/03/0421.html
    (there are many more)
Mechanical failure (wear and tear) through constant plugging and unplugging is a secondary consideration.
If your FireWire device is constantly connected, this issue does not exist (and there is no wear and tear either). On my Intel iMac, my external FireWire drive is always connected, and I use the direct port on the Mac. If I ever need to disconnect it, I shut down my iMac and then disconnect. The other FireWire port is connect to a hub, and that is where I connect and disconnect FireWire devices on-the-fly (old iPod, small bus-powered drive, and video camera).
If your iPod shuffle is the old +thumb drive+ style with the USB plug, you should be using a self-powered hub. That may be why it is not reliable. Also, that plug on the old shuffle is the most likely part to fail, so it is possible that it is getting worn out. I bought a bunch of used and reportedly broken iPod shuffle (the older white type) on eBay to see if I could fix any of them. I would say, 80% of the time, it was broken due to a faulty USB plug (no data connection). On the rare ones broken for another reason, I used that good USB plug to get another shuffle working. (A few worked after using the iPod Reset Utility, without any other repair. )
But I'm getting off topic with the shuffle talk...

  • Carbon X1, OneLink and non-working USB ports

I have a Carbon X1 (2014) and the ThinkPad OneLink Dock (4X10A06077). I have Windows 7 Pro installed. Sometimes when the system returns from sleep the OneLink taskbar icon displays "Detached!". Even though the icon says Detached!, the display attached to the dock is working, but the USB ports do not function. I lose mouse and keyboard; unplugging/plugging does not work. USB ports on the Carbon X1 do work. I have not verified whether or not Ethernet also fails as I am using WIFI at this time. The USB ports on the dock continue to not work after restarting the laptop. Power cable needs to be unplugged from the dock before the USB ports work again. I have updated all drivers. The BIOS is up to date. I've disabled all power management on the USB ports in the Windows Device Manager. However, the problem persists. Thanks

Welcome to the forums. Lots of good information and help to be had here.
OK, first, let us know more specifically which of five flavors of Power Mac G5 you have. Find the serial number on the build plate on the inner bottom panel just below the CPUs and use this site to get the exact configuration:
    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
In the meantime, assuming that you haven't replaced the PRAM battery in quite a while or ever, that would be a good thing to do.
Getting dust out of the system is a must. The power supply is especially prone to dust buildup. You might want to deal with that by taking the machine outside, as it can get pretty thick coming out.

  • I have an hp pavilion laptop with non working usb ports

I just called HP to order a replacement OS cd so I can restore this computer -- I've tried everything else to no avail!  I was just told by the hp technician that an HP laptop that is not yet 5 years old that I paid nearly $800 for is GARBAGE!  He actually indicated I should throw it away!!
I have no words to sufficiently express my disappointment.  I will never buy another HP product.

The DV6000 series was very prone to motherboard failures of all kinds, it might be time for an upgrade.
Or you might consider sending it in for repairs

    Symptoms may include the following:
Weird colored screen (grey, green, red etc..
    Scrambled or pixelated screen
Divided split screen (2 screens up to 12 split screens)
    Screen black however backlit
Screen black with no backlight however blue lights come on the quickplay panel
Turns on then shuts off immediatly
Turns on and beeps 3 times (1 long and 2 short)
Turns on, black screen and keeps restarting by itself
White or grey screen sometimes with horizontal lines
Press power button and nothing happens what so ever (seems dead) (mostly on DV2000 models)
Intel models boot to backlight but no screen
Cant load Nvidia driver, can only run in VGA mode
Screen works but no WiFi (does not show up in device manager)

  • Suncing through USB hub "upgraded" after 3.1.2????

    Hi all!
Before upgrading to 3.1.2, my phone would charge on my non-powered usb hub but would NOT sync. After 3.1.2 it also syncs!!!
Is this a fluke, or did Apple fix something?
Has anyone else noticed similar behavior?
    M.

This is a discussions forum for users, Apple do not read all the posts.
The choppy scrolling was happening prior to 3.1.3 and I have used Feedback to inform Apple about it. However, until others also use Feedback, Apple will think I'm the only one with the problem and perhaps think I'm just being fussy. So please, all three of you, use http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html to let them know.

  • I need to find a powered usb hub that works with my Macbook pro

I've got a macbook pro mid 2010. And 2 usb ports isn't enough. Even with the powered hubs taht I have tried none will seem to charge my ipad 2. It only works if it is plugged directly in to the Macbook. So is there a powered usb hub out there that can handle having an ipod and and ipad plugged into them and actually charge these devices. Thanks in advance.

    Yes. Google...

  • USB Hubs not working

    Hi
I've been trying to connect a usb hub to my iMac and have tried all types of brands (Belkins, unknowns) and none of them seems to work. There's either no connection at all, or it works for a day or two then it starts to disconnect intermittently. I'm at wits end. Any advice appreciated. I'm just trying to connect a printer, iPod and mini-usb cables to the hub to sync my devices. Thanks.

I agree with the other poster that you need a powered USB hub. I've been using one from Cable to Go for about 6 months now and it works great, have never had an issue with it. [Click Here.|http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Port-USB-2-0/dp/B000IZDN60/ref=pdbbs_sr2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219431869&sr=8-2] There are various others available I just like this one because it's small and sleek.

  • USB Hub does not work

I recently purchased this USB hub.
    http://www.jascoproducts.com/products/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=8&idcategory=13
My laptop cooler is able to be power through the USB hub.
However, my mouse, keyboard, and external harddrives are not working. For instance, the laser on the optical mouse is not even lighting up.
My mouse, Keyboard, and external hard drive works fine when it is connected directly to the USB pots on my macbook Pro.
Is this a compatibility issue? I mean, GE says that the hub works with mac os. And for a generic hub like this, there shouldn't be any issues right?

    Hi wifpck;
The first problem I see with this hub is that it is USB 1.1 which is a very slow out of date protocol.
Secondly it doesn't appear to be a powered hub. Hence all of the power for the hub must come from the USB on your Mac. Powering laptop cooler maybe over loading the USB port. I would suggest that you try it without the laptop cooler connected and see if works better that way.

  • USB hub does not work with iTunes

I have been trying to add USB ports to may Mac's and am not able to synch through the hub. They are hi speed 2.0 USB hubs by Rocketfish and Belkin. iTunes locks up until I remove them from the USB cable (spinning color wheel) and then iTunes goes back to normal. I have tried with both my 24" Intel iMac (Metal one) and a new 15" Macbook Pro. When I use the USB port on the Mac iTunes works great. There seem to be a ton of USB problems posted and zero answers on how to correct. I have tried with an Color iPOD, iPhone and an iTouch to no avail. Having a couple of USB ports won't work in my situation. Anyone know if Apple has posted a workaround or a real fix anywhere.

Thanks, I missed where I posted But I tried with my HP - Same issue. I think others have had this. I believe that iTunes is hit or miss on Hubs. I wish I could figure out what makes them a hit - instead of a miss.

  • USB hub does not work!  Help

I was attempting to install a KVM switch for my G4 and G5 that required me attaching my keyboard and mouse to the usb port on the back of the monitor.
The USB hub does not work! Monitor cable has no bent pins, and works perfectly for video with all my Mac's, G4's, G5's. The problem is I have had this monitor awhile and never tried these ports so apple won't help.
Anyone have any suggestions why these ports don't work and if there is a fix?
Can any one recommend a KVM switch that supports ADC, and USB so I bypass this hub.
    Thanks

Some USB 2.0 hardware works very well w/USB 3.0 & some don't.  Suggest that you contact the sound card manufacturer & ask them.  Perhaps they can recommend a work-a-round.
Another user posted about the same problem some weeks ago regarding a sound card.

  • USB hub and internet sharing stop working after sleep

    Hi,
I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.
I have all the Mac updates installed.

    Thanks Barry.
The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service...
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
    Some clarification:
    * It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
    * The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

  • HT1476 My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones. I'm stumped :/

My iPhone 4S will charge on a laptop but not from a wall plug. I have tried different boxes and different USB cords from the wall but none work. These boxes and USB cords work for other family members with iPhones and a USB cord that works from the laptop won't work from 3 or 4 different wall boxes that work for others. I'm stumped :/

Update: It seems as though the phone will charge if I plug it in and then turn it off.  It will not charge while the phone is on.  Also iTunes will not recognize it, so I can't sync or anything.  I read somewhere that it could be a fuse somewhere?? Or maybe the dock connector. Where is the best place to get this repaired?

  • USB Device Not Recognized when direct to computer, works through hub

I have a rather bizarre problem (which I've already written about on Tom's Hardware) regarding my Samsung Galaxy S III phone and my ThinkPad T440p. At first I thought it was just a driver issue, but now it seems to be more hardware-related.
As I explained in my other post, the phone works (in both Windows 7 and Linux) when plugged in through a USB hub, but not when connected directly to the computer. My computer is still under warranty (thank goodness), but I'd like to avoid sending it in if possible, as it's my only computer.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

I just tried plugging another Samsung phone in with my USB cable and it has the same problem. If I plug it in with another cable though, it works. I use the same cable with my phone and nothing happens. No charging, nothing. At least with my "bad" cable it charges and the computer complains about it.
At this point I'll get another "Samsung USB cable" (supposed to work, eh?) and see what my luck is. This cable is less than a year old though. I already replaced the original. Maybe Samsung went too cheap again... It wouldn't be the first time. Their push buttons fail left and right.

  • USB Hub(s) no longer working after 10.8.5 update

Installed the 10.8.5 update via software update on my iMac 3.4Ghz i7 (no DVD drive) and had the Bluetooth unavailable issue I have seen mentioned elsewhere. Managed to restore Bluetooth via a restartwith all USB devices disconnected. However I have two USB hubs that no longer work. One is a colourful freebie so maybe not a surprise but the other is a powered D link USB 2.0 DUB-H7 which worked fine before the update. Now no device that is connected to it is recognized no matter which USB port the hub  is plugged in to. Leaves me somewhat short of USB ports.

I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked
    MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.
After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.
-System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Search: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found
-So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!
Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!
I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!
Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.
