NON ZCM Capable Devices

HI Everybody,
Ok the scenario .... I have alot of devices (appliances, Spam, Proxies, VMWare -hosts, etc etc), now on these devices i cannot install the agent nor inventory only (no Root access from vendor etc etc ..weird linux os's etc etc).
Point being i WANT these devices in my ZCM System/inventory, so i can report on them and have them inventoried in ONE place, makes sense right?
Cool there is a button that says "Add Device", you give it a name (created a key for "Appliances"). and whalla it is there.... but that is about it ... i can only change very few details on the summary tab, like location, serial etc etc .. don't get me wrong i know zcm cannot do ANYTHING with it as it does not have any kind of agent on it .... BUT i would have loved it if we could edit the inventory for the device, to add our own details for the device!!?..wouldn't that be great??!! stuff like Ip purpose, spec etc etc, MAYBE it's possible i just dont know how?...
besides that, i have added a few such appliances, BUT i CANNOT for the live of me get them in a report to list them, THE ONLY way so far is a screenshot!!!! (red face) ...i have tried everything i can think of, every report just comes up blank .. even as simple as report all in that Zenworks (Folder) .. it show nothing ... so own could argue it is not in the inventory....BUT i cannot add the same Serial Number for 2 devices..so it must be register somewhere right?....
Please guys/girls?
PS. OH maybe somebody that can do something about this sees it ... on the inventory details of devices, please can a field/fields be added so one can say what this device is actually doing, (Groupwise Server PO 20, or MSSQL for Remedy, OR Proxy Server, or Filr) etc.... currently i am using the "email field for this" ...

You could try to create a discovery task against these servers via SNMP or something.. Then they will end up under Devices/Discovered and using ZENworks reporting you can get out a nice report.

  • Non CISCO unknown devices are being discovered in LMS

    Hi!
I have had no problem with discovery which was used on cdp basis so far.
Now the CDP packets do not arrive via new MPLS backbone network.  I have to use the "ping sweep feature in IP range" feature. I had to enter more than 400 subnet from file before there are more than 400 branches. ( etc. 10.31-9.1-50.252 255.255.255.252 )
    I have experienced two problems
    1. The discovery never end ( now this is not important ) :-)
    2. The common services -- device management shows discovered unknown devices whose ip addresses out side the range what are entered by me in the ping sweep range and theirs OID is not CISCO.
    (  1.3.6.1.4.1.2001.1.1.1.1  ,  1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.9.1  ,  1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.2  , 1.3.6.1.4.1.18334.1.1.1.2.1.7.1.2 and even more )
Due to more than 300 unknown devices the LMS device number is beyond the license number!!!!!
    Our questions.
Why does lms add the unknown devices ( non cisco devices ) to the inventory ?
How could lms discover  these devices ??? ) ( theirs IP are out of ping sweep range and non cdp capable devices )
    Thanks in advance!

    Thank you!
The unknown devices were in unreachable state and they were added to DCR.
I don't use include or exclude filter what were referred by bug.
In spite of i use seed device list from file the LMS ping sweep debug log shows that LMS try to ping other IP addresses!!!!
You're right, it is not normally operation may be TAC will be needed to  solve it.
( whether who tested it ?)

  • How to make a report in RME to display all POE capable devices

    Hello,
I need to create a report that will list switches in my network that support POE. Most of our switches are 3750 stack and I know most of them have POE capabilities but whenever I generate the report under RME POE Port Level Report or POE Report it gives me an error that says none of the devices are POE capabled/enabled.
Does anyone know how to generate this kind of report? I tried making a template but I still couldn't produce the result that I need.
    Thanks in advance.

    HI ,
    CSCsx15486            Bug Details
RME cannot create Inventory PoE Report for certain switches
Currently, RME is only able to create PoE Inventory reports for Cat3750 and 3560 switches:
    WS-C3560-24PS - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.563
    WS-C3560-48PS - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.564
    WS-C3560G-24PS - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.614
    WS-C3560G-48PS - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.616
    WS-C3750E-24PD - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.792
    WS-C3750E-48PD - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.791
    WS-C3560E-24PD - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.795
    WS-C3560E-48PD - 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.796
It does not work for other switches.
Even the 3750G switches are not currently supported. The sysObjectID is:
    .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.516

  • I am trying to set up two-factor authentication but none of my devices appear listed.

I am trying to set up two-factor authentication but none of my devices appear listed. I am only given an option to add an SMS-enabled device. When I do this, I receive an SMS with a code, but have no way to continue in the browser. I have enabled find my iPhone on at least one device, and can see all my devices in the find-my-iPhone app. Am I missing something?

As a check, this page walks you through the process:
    http://technofyi.com/2013/03/21/how-to-enable-apples-two-step-verification-featu re/
His step 6 shows the 'Step 1 of 4' page where you should click 'Add an SMS-capable phone number'.
His step 7 shows the 'Add a phone number' window where you can enter the phone number and click 'Next'. The phone should then receive the code by SMS.
His step 8 shows the 'Verify Device' window which should appear automatically in which you can enter the code.
Are you not seeing the window in step 8? if this is not popping up automatically then something is going wrong: you could try clearing your browser's cache and trying again. If it still won't work you may have to contact Support: Go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services', then ' 'iTunes', and then 'iTunes Store', then 'Account Management' then 'Apple ID account security' - this seems to be the nearest relevant option.

  • Non-Wireless Capable Router/Modem for Xfinity???

    Non-Wireless Capable Router/Modem for Xfinity/Comcast???
Apologies up front since I’m sure I have the terminology wrong, but here’s the situation:
Currently we have a modem (or router or cable-modem, I don’t know the difference) that we rent from Xfinity/Comcast. It is a Model DHG536C, Thomson RCA. I’m pretty sure (but not 100% sure) that this doesn’t have any wireless signal emanating from it. On one side of this box is a cable TV type connector from the outside world, and on the other is an Ethernet-type cable.
The Ethernet-type cable goes from this Comcast box to our Apple Airport Extreme. This is the 6th generation model ME918LL/A 802.11AC.  From the Airport Extreme we send internet access to Apple devices through the house, both via wireless and also cables (USB and Ethernet).
Comcast sent us a “free” replacement modem (we rent the modem from them) a year or two ago so that we could take advantage of some new capabilities they installed on our line (don’t know specifically what they were, but possibly speedier access). However, the install was a bit of a nightmare since the replacement they sent also emitted a wireless signal and there were issues between the wireless emitted between by their new modem versus our Airport Extreme. Comcast is justifiably not renowned for their customer support, and given my lack of computer knowledge, I couldn’t figure it out. So we returned the upgrade modem and stayed with our old one.
We are now getting requests from Comcast to throw out our old modem and install another new one. So here’s the question: can we get a modem that doesn’t emit a wireless signal, that just converts the cable signal from outside the house into an Ethernet cable that we can plug into our Airport Extreme? That way we shouldn’t run into any of the issues we had last time.
    And two related questions:
Will this noticeably speed up our internet service? We’re actually happy with what we have right now but perhaps we are just used to it.
Can I buy this new modem on Amazon or from Apple to bypass Comcast (to get rid of the monthly rental fee, and to get something that may have better customer support)?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
And any teaching/education about the proper name for the Comcast “box” without wireless, and our Airport Extreme would be fun as well (router, modem, cable-modem, etc).
    Thank you!

So here’s the question: can we get a modem that doesn’t emit a wireless signal, that just converts the cable signal from outside the house into an Ethernet cable that we can plug into our Airport Extreme?
Simple modems do exist, but the question would be whether one of them would be compatible with the Comcast service.  So, you really have a question for Comcast support here.
The question would be whether Comcast can provide a simple modem.........like you have now.......and not a modem/router or gateway type of device, which you really don't need, since you already have a router, and just need a simple modem.
Will this noticeably speed up our internet service? We’re actually happy with what we have right now but perhaps we are just used to it.
Possibly, if you are already paying for faster service, but your current modem is not capable of working at higher speeds.  Again, a question for Comcast support here.
Can I buy this new modem on Amazon or from Apple to bypass Comcast (to get rid of the monthly rental fee, and to get something that may have better customer support)?
Possibly, if Comcast can provide you with a list of modems that will work with their service.  Apple does not make modems, so they would not be able to help on that product.

  • AEBS Does NOT WORK correctly with non-11n wireless devices

Well i don't know what they missed in their testing, unless they assumed everyone was going to run out and replace all their macs with 802.11n versions...
So heres the deal, my wired connection (ethernet to LAN port) is blazing fast, which it should be since I have cable internet access. My Powerbook on the other hand is constantly slowing down and speeding up. One minute it's browsing just fine, and the next minute it slows to such a crawl that the HTTP request times out. I've reset it, changed configs, nada, zip, zilch. There is something wrong with this new base station and it doesn't appear to be playing nice with 802.11g...yeah, I'm frustrated. Waited weeks for this and just spent hours trying to fix it when I should be playing with my new Mac Pro instead of monkeying around with the da@# AEBS.
Anyone figure this out, or are we going to be awaiting some firmware update?

I disagree, because basically Apple advertised that you could run both G and N devices at the same time on the new Extreme base station. While they said that running both on the same network would degrade the N performance, they never stated that overall performance would be WORSE than running a pure G network on the old base station.
All that said, I'm not running a mixed network; all I have are G capable devices, which according to Apple should run just fine, and should experience the same performance as they did on the previous Extreme base station. Well that has not been my experience, nor the experience of many others.
The most consistent performance I received was B level, and typically it didn't even hit the speeds of B level and could be measured in comparison to dial-up speeds. I have since gone completely ethernet to avoid the problem for now. Really, the whole reason I upgraded was not for the N speed, but for the ability to have both a printer and a network available hard drive attached to the base station.
I also want to add that I have uncovered another problem with the new Airport software: the Airport Disk extension. I was having another issue that appeared to be bad RAM. After weeks of troubleshooting, I finally determined that Apple's own Airport Disk extension was the source of the numerous kernel panics I had been experiencing on my brand new Mac Pro.
Long story short: The new Extreme base station was not ready, and they rushed it, I suspect in order to meet some financial deadline (quarter revenue, etc.). There are multiple bugs still yet to be worked out, including this new panic bug I have found.

  • ISE and non-802.1x devices

    Hi,
I am looking for some input about how to profile and authorize non-802.1x devices. These devices are mostly barcode scanners connecting wireless with WPA/2. I am not sure how to authenticate them in ISE.
    We have two scenarios.
    1) LAP/WLC with several SSID/VLAN where the devices authenticate with WPA/2.
    2) Autonomous AP with several SSID/VLAN where the devices authenticate with WPA/2.
There is a posibility to authenticate them on OUI, but I would like to have atleast another condition. Is it possible to use the WPA PSK?
For the second scenario; is it possible to use autonomus AP and ISE? Barcode scaners need to go to one VLAN and other non802.1x devices to another. My guess is that the config should be somewhat similar to a switch, regarding AAA/RADIUS.
Have anyone set up ISE with non802.1x devices? What/How did you do?
    Regards
    Philip

I've quickly tried to authenticate against ISE with Autonomous AP
No luck, maybe there is a work around but haven't tried as hard or there might not be:
Failure Reason > Authentication Failure Code Lookup
    Failure Reason :
11036 The Message-Authenticator RADIUS attribute is invalid
    Generated on:November 14, 2012 11:11:46 AM CST
    Description
The Message-Authenticator RADIUS attribute is invalid. This maybe because of mismatched Shared Secrets.
    Resolution Steps
Check whether the Shared Secrets on the AAA Client and ISE Server, match. Ensure that the AAA Client and the network device, have no hardware problems or problems with RADIUS compatibility. Also ensure that the network that connects the device to the ISE, has no hardware problems.

Not once they turn off the old incoming/outgoing servers. (Supposedly coming in September.)
What email clients are you using that don't allow for SSL???

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

Is it legal to convert the music files, which I have purchased in recent months, to the mp3 format and burn them on to a CD so that they can be played in non-apple music devices that dont support the M4A format?

Yes, of course it is legal.
To convert the format, follow one of these documents:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Save a copy of a song in a new file format
iTunes 11 for Mac: Save a copy of a song in a new file format
Also note that you have the option of buying your files in MP3 format in the first place, from Amazon MP3 or other online retailers.  MP3 files will work in iTunes as well as virtually every other player, program, and device.

Can the Apple USB charger be used to charge other non-Apple USB devices?  I just purchased an electric toothbrush that uses a USB port to charge.  If I'm traveling, I would like to consolidate and take only one charger.  Would it be ok to use the apple charger for both items?

Yes, as long as your toothbrush doesn't require more than 5W power draw.

  • Detecting HDCP Encrypted Content or non-HDCP Supporting Devices

I'd like to detect non HDCP supporting devices, and alert users that it is not supported and switch to a lower quality (non-HDCP) stream.
Is there a way from within OSMF to detect if content has been encrypted with Output Protection, and can you detect at what level of protection was added (NO_PROTECTION, NO_PLAYBACK,  etc.)?

Here's a more detailed description of what Derek said:
Create a policy called “test_for_HDCP” with the restriction “REQUIRED” (using AdobePolicyManager.jar)
Use the policy to package a content dummycontent.f4v (use the AdobePackager.jar tool).  Grab the .drmmeta file that it generates and toss out the encrypted dummycontent.f4v.
Host your dummycontent.drmmeta on a webserver somewhere
On your client/player-application, load the dummycotent.drmmeta and then do DRMManager.loadVoucher()
If you get an error code, computer doesn’t have OP
If you don’t see an error code, computer does have OP
Depending on what you see in step #5 or #6, you can then decide to go down your SD video route, or HD video route.
    cheers,
    /Eric.
