None of my apps open

When I try to open an application it just won't work, it goes straight back to the springboard. Is this happening to anyone else?

*Hard reset:*
Press and hold down the power button (the physical button on the top-left corner of the iPod Touch) for approximately 5 seconds.
A slider with a red arrow will appear at the top of the screen that reads *+"Slide to Power Off."+* When you use it, the iPod Touch will shut down and power off completely.
When you power back up, you will see the Apple logo and the iPod will go through the startup process.

Just updated to 2.0.2. none of my apps open!

I have the original iphone and just made the move to software version 2. Every single app that I purchase and install WILL NOT OPEN! Is anyone else having this issue? I tried to synch
and update, but no change. I also restared my phone.

I had the same problem, none of my apps open after 2.0.2 update. Shutting down the iPhone and resetting it did not solve the problem. I had to uninstall all my apps by unchecking all boxes under the "Applications" tab, then click "Apply", after that I clicked the "Sync All Applications" button to reinstall my apps, then shut down the device. All applications worked after that. However, one of my apps (Reel Deal Slots) restarted the problem again after an extended use (about 30 minutes). After so many times uninstall & reinstall I decided not to use Reel Deal Slos again until there's a fix for it. Now my iPhone works like a charm with no problems.

My iPhone 4 was really slow with some apps randomly crashing since upgrading to ios5. I decided to do a restore, twice now, but now it is even worse. None of my apps open at all! Help....

Ok, it seems to be fixed. I deleted my facebook app and re-installed it and now the others seem to work?

For starters, have him open Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, select the volume (the indented listing) and Verify Disk. If it reports any problems, have him try a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key at startup. This boot will take much longer than usual. It's checking and trying to repair the drive directory, if possible. Once in Safe Boot, have him repair Permissions.

Also, have him try a PRAM Reset. At the startup chime, hold down CMD-Option-P-R together, listen for two more chimes, total three, then let go to finish booting.
Also, is he running any AV? If so, have him uninstall it. It might be responsible for this behavior. (There are no viruses for OS X.)

have you tried to reset it? hold down the sleep and home key until the silver apple comes up. Let it restart. It's the equivalent of 'control-alt-delete' and sometimes fixes glitches.

Go to the App Stor and download an app- any free app will do, it doesn't matter.
Doing this usually "resets" your device's "app awareness" and you should be able to run any app with no problem.
And no, you don't have to keep that free one you just downloaded. You can delete it if you don't want it.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Same here. I don't know how to solve the problem, but I figured out a way to close the app without re-starting or resetting the phone. If you click ok and then press the home button twice really fast before the dialog box shows back up, you can put the phone in multi-tasking mode and close the app without having the shut the phone off or reset it. Anxiously awaiting the fix for this since I have several apps I use that I can access at the moment.

Sorry, darned auto correct. Sleep and home. The home is the button on the front of your iPad. The sleep button is also the power down button. It's on the upper right edge of your iPad.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. The following is a past discussion that dealt with a similar issue of apps seemingly paused in "waiting" and may help:

Try tapping the App, so that it changes to Paused instead of Waiting, then tap it again to resume the install.
Make sure you don't have any paused downloads in other apps either, like the App Store or iTunes Store.
If that doesn't do it, try resetting or restoring the iPhone.

If that doesn't help, try downloading another app from the App Store.

Also when I plug the phone into itunes it only gives me the option to either restore or eject the phone. Up until today I never had any problems, I sync it regularly and all the software (inc itunes) is up to date. The last time I backed it up was about a month ago when I got the phone, (a replacement as my other iphone4 had loads of problems) so I don't want to have to restore it and lose everything off it!
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.
