None of the selected updates could be installed. You don't have permission
I am trying to update my MacMini from 10.7.3 to 10.7.4 and I am not able to. The user account I am trying to do it from is an admin account. I currently have 4 other updates and I am not able to install any of them and they are listed below.
Airport utility 6.1
Digitial Camera Raw Compatability update 3.13
iTunes 10.6.3
Java for OS X 2012-004 1.0
Here is a copy and paste from my Console install.log only trying to install the Airport Utility and Digital Camera Raw updates. All others were doing the same as these.

Hey I am kind of new to this forum situation, but I keep trying to install software updates on my macbook for the last two weeks and the aforementioned error (None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred.) keeps resulting. I would download them straight from online, but I don't know which ones to download. What should I do?
Bring up Software Update, and when it says it has updated software to download, click the button on the left bottom of the window, might say something like show details. That will open the box to show you exactly what would download. You can then visit the Apple download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/

"None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred."
Whenever I tried to update my softwares, It said: "None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred." I don't know how to update all the softwares. I cannot connect to my printers. And I think it's becasue of the software updates. Anyone can help me, please? Plus, how do I know what operating system I have?
Then your friend really needs to clean it up, and give you only software which he is licensed to give. He should read my FAQ*:
http://www.macmaps.com/selling.html
Without doing so, he probably has left have some gremlins of his own that cause problems. Cleaning up a Mac for resale really means cleaning it up. -
None of the selected updates could be installed.
Installed Lion yesterday. Also installed the Java update.
The software update feature on Lion is telling me to download updates for iTunes, HP printer stuff, etc.
However after it finishes downloading i get the following message:
"None of the selected updates could be installed." "Unexpected error"
Any ideas? Its driving me nuts.
Thanks,
AlfonsoI had the same problems, the only thing that worked for me, was to download the update, one by one. Odd I know, but I had problems with iWork Update 6, Remote client update, but when I did it one by one, they worked. However, iTunes 10.4 refuses to download what so ever, all I get is Installation Failed, see the manufacturer. Going to an Apple Store to see what the Geniuses can do.

Latest update returns error " None of the selected updates could be installed. The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs."
Which latest update? Details get answers. Rather than using SU, DL and install from http://support.apple.com/downloads/.

Can anyone help me? I have also been getting the kernal error about once a day...do I just need to upgrade my os? I'm running 10.7.5.
I believe all of McAffee was uninstalled. I had a Genius Bar appointment yesterday and he made sure that it was all gone. He also deleted the files that had downloaded in order to restart the software updates, re downloaded them all and it worked. Didn't have a kernal panic all night...
Until now...it's been on iPhoto...I'm not doing anything out of the normal, but it just keeps crapping out. Here is the latest error report:

it keeps telling me this whenever i try to click the "sofware update". it downloads, and thereafter turns into the grey screen but gives me ,"non of the selected updates could be installed."
Two things you can try.
- Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
- Quit the App Store
- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
- It will take you to a folder. Delete com.apple.appstore
- Launch the App Store and test
Try resetting the App Store.

Unexpected error: None of the checked updates could be installed
When attempting to update firmware, I get:
unexpected error: None of the checked updates could be installed
So, I go to the downloads section of the apple website and manually download and install it.
However, when I run for updates, the same files show up to be downloaded.
It's annoying, please help.If I´m not mistaken it means it´s not updated. maybe you could check these links to see if they´ll help you:

I remember reading somewhere that it´s best to have 1.0 before you upgrade to 1.3, maybe it works if you upgrade to 1.3, then 1.4 then 1.5.1

I'm the Adnin. just recently I tried to update system software (Lion OS). The following message was returned. None of the selected updates could be saved. A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again. but I have internet access )email, Safari, etc.). Any idea of what is happenening?
The error may be at Apple's end rather than yours. It could also be due to corrupted files on your computer. Try deleting the following:
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Restart your computer. -
can anyone tell me how to bypass message "none of the updates selected can be saved. you don't have permission." I've not bee able to install iTunes or any other updates on my Mac.
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
* Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
* Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
* Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I did what you suggested on all three folders: The main Music folder on the Mac hard disk, on the iTunes folder on the external 160GB Hard drive which contains the current media content and on the new 2TB hard disk on which I created a new media folder. I selected permission for myself which were already read+write and chose the apply to enclosed items on all three folders. I then changed the permission for others to read+write and applied to enclose items also an all three folders.
But it didn't solve anything.
Here's what happens: I choose the new directory in iTunes preferences (the media folder on the 2TB disk) I then go to File > Library > Organize Library and then choose Consolidate files. A window pops up and says copying "filename" with a progression bar underneath but the filename never changes. Instead the beachball appears when the mouse pointer hoovers over iTunes. Upon pressing the iTunes icon in the Dock it says that iTunes is not responding. At this point there's 2 different ways:
A - If I then force quit iTunes the iTunes window disappears but the application does not close. When I want to eject the 2TB disk it says it's being used by another application. Only when I cut the power to the 2TB disk does iTunes fully close. A window then pops up and says that the drive was not put away properly etc.
B - if I cut the power to the drive without force quitting iTunes, a window appears with the said: "Copying failed because you don't have permissions to change iTunes media folders etc." iTunes remains open and fully functional. -
HT1338 None of the selected updates could be saved.
I keep getting this message when I try to update my software. It says I have no internet connection but I do.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Post the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -

My guess is that you could also simply create a new account on the same machine and install Firefox 4 from that. I have no idea why this works.
