None of the songs appear on my iPod?!

I'm hoping somebody can help me! The problem is: iTunes responds to my iPod and starts opdating it with the songs, but after a while there's a messagge saying that you can't read from the Ipod or write to it( sometimes it says error 36?!). And everytime I connect my iPod there's a message saying that I have to set the ipod and offers my to registrate it online... When my ipod is connected, itunes shows that some of the songs are on the ipod but when I try to use it none of the songs are on it, even though it appears so from itunes that 2,85 GB of the 20GB is being used.... grr I have had nothing but problems with my Ipod!

See if either of these two articles offer any help.
