  • Noob here - how to add sidebar?

Okay, I'm kinda a noob at html and expecially css.  I've been dabbling for quite a while, but I am in NO way a professional at web site developement.
I would like to add a google adsense sidebar into one of my pages on my site, but I just can't figure out how to do it.  I've spent hours on this, looked at multiple tutorials, but I just can't get this figured out.
I believe I have to create the details in the .css file as well as the .html file.  I'm kinda used to .html editing, but .css is totally new to me.
The site that I want to add the sidebars into is: http://www.myworthlesscrap.com/Links.html
I would be very greatfull for any help and input into this!!!

Before you start working on anything *layout* related, you would want to get your current code in valid order.
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myworthlesscrap.com%2FLinks.h tml
There are 92 errors on the page, and most (if not all) are due to a conflict between your doctype (XHTML Transitional) and the tag syntax you have used on the page (HTML 4.01 Transitional).  So open the page in DW, and use FILE | Convert > HTML 4.01 Transitional.  Save the page.  It should now validate with many fewer errors - does it?

When you sign into your hp webOS account device information is sent back to HP servers to basically register the device to you. This in a since does all the registration for you. You will then receive an email that will help you confirm your email address for your profile and validate it.

  • HERES HOW TO SOLVE THE ZEN VISION M CHARGING PROBLEM - WITHOUT SPENDING MORE CA

    Hi all,
this advice is targeted at people charging with a laptop, and the dam player wont charge
the problem is that (with xp anyway) that the usb ports are programed for the power to be killed of when a device is not connected to the ports with sufficient charge to be recognized. heres how to fix this
    go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager
then scroll and find uni'versal serial bus controllers (the flashy name for USBs) it was right down the bottom for me
open it up and you we see 2 or more "USB root hubs" this is the controller of the USB ports - right click on the first one and select its properties
this is where it may differ for some but - either under the "power" or "power management" tab untick the box which allows the computer to cut the power to the usb
now repeat this for the remaining "USB root hubs" and bobs your uncle
just plub in the vision then after a short moment try turning it on or it might load automatic
hope this cures alot of rag - it cured mine
ps - i would recommend particularly with a laptop to go back and tick the power boxs on the usb root hub properties so, when you go to use a laptop as one, the battery last longer
    cheers

I thought this post was the answer to my prayers after struggling with my new Zen M all night, wondering why it won't charge!
still though, I plug it into usb, only the blue light flashes... then SOMETIMES after 20 minutes or so, the battery indicator will come on, in most dead battery icon, with lighting bolt / charging symbol. Then SOMETIMES after another 5-0 minutes, it'll boot and start playing some demo song on there I guess. But then after another 2-3 minutes (times are all estimates btw), it seems to shut down, and goes back to just the blinking blue light, and I can't manually boot it or anything!
Im ready to send it back, and NOT get another one! For 3 bucks cost, they couldn't include a simple receptacle plug connected to a wire, connected to a transformer, connected to an electrical outlet plug (A $3 CHARGER!!)? Ugh.
any more help, ideas, suggestions, or prognosis, its much appreciated
    Chris

  • Boot Camp forgot how to boot

Im getting "no bootable device" (or something close to this). It's flipping weird so let's start with a chain of events.
I must install WinXP via an external LaCie d2 USB/FW device. This thing can boot off Leopard install DVD just fine. It used to be able to boot off Win XP install DVD just fine too. The later capability evaporated in mid air or something else equally senseless.
1- use Boot Camp Assistant to partition HDD then start installation.
2- Windows did it's thing just fine up to the first reboot.
3- Windows can't boot allegedly because of this: (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1722?viewlocale=en_US)
    4- Start over from scratch.
5- used Boot Camp Assistant to partition HDD then start installation.
    6- no can do.
It forgot how to boot off the Windows DVD. It lost the capability right there. I get either: (paraphrased) "No bootable device found. Press any key to continue" or the blank grey screen. There is no key that does anything. It's dead, Jim. I must shutdown the mac by holding the power button long enough then hold option down to select Mac. OK.
What is going on? I went as far as re-flashing the DVD firmware. It's all dandy in there. Nothing to report.
What am I supposed to do now?
    Pretty please...
    confusingly yours,
    Andrew from Canada

OK. A bit more infos as well as a bump.
The WinXP disk show up in boot camp when connected via FW then Windows can't use FW to boot so it's pointless...
It does not show up in boot camp when connected via USB.
I know it can boot from USB because it already did that once.. This is also the official procedure for installing Windows into a Macbook Air. So there
It forgot how... or it villainy refuse to.
Come on guys, throw me a bone here. At least one of you must have a clue...

  • HP Pavilion 20-b010 how to boot from CD or USB

    HP Pavilion 20-b010 , Problems:
I am having a bit of a problem here trying to boot from a CD/DVD or USB device.  I try to enable Legacy Devices and the CD/DVD rom doesn't even show up at the boot menu screen it just has UEFI devices.  When ever I select Legacy Devices there is nothing under it and there is just a black screen selecting that alone.
I can't get into Windows 8 cause it only has one user and its password protected.  It was somebody elses computer and there is no way of getting that password.  I've tried to get into safe mode but of course cause of the password protect I can't get in.
One other error is I get is "Keyboard Error"
    Default Bios Settings Loaded
The original keyboard doesn't work with the machine so another keyboard has to be used.  So how do I go about solving that problem.  I'm aware that maybe the reason why Legacy Devices doesn't show any devices under it when I restart.
Well can't do a clean install or other system configurations using CD/DVD or USB.

Okay so what I mean is if I use another keyboard will my main problem be resolved and by that I mean this issue.
Default Bios Settings Loaded it resets the BIOS to default settings
I don't want default settings to be loaded if I want to enable Legacy Devices.  I went to the support site and after you enable Legacy Devices upon resetting the computer after saving the bios settings there is supposedly a notification about the UEFI Security being disabled and typing a 4 digit number to confirm.   That menu doesn't pop up is it cause the Default Bios Settings Load cause of that keyboard error.  I know I will have to try a new keyboard in any of those ports and that is fine but will it solve that problem and will that screen load?

  • SOLUTION! go back to itunes 6.0.5 til 7.0 glitches are fixed!! heres how:

from the sound of it, A LOT of ppl are having trouble upgrading to itunes 7, myself included. long story short, ive been trying to figure it out for DAYS and i even ended up uninstalling itunes altogether at the suggestion of many. when that didnt work, i decided to try to go back to my previous version (bc its better than nothing!).... and it worked like a charm. SO, this leads me to believe that the problems with itunes 7 are the fault of apple and the software, NOT our computers. HERES HOW TO GO BACK TO THE OLDER VERSION OF ITUNES: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/itunes605forwindows.html
and if you question whether this is legit or not, follow the url path yourself and youll see that this link is very legit...comes straight from apple. not a trick or a virus.
im going to stay with the obviously more reliable version of itunes until apple gets their stuff together.
    good luck!

Apple better get their act together soon. I was considering on upgrading my 3rd Gen. Since all the problems with the iTunes 7, I'm holding off. This is very frustrating and a waste of time. It's amazing that they release a piece of software this troublesome. The trouble seems pretty widespread and not just a single problem.
The failed installation caused major boot issues and conflicts. They did not exist before I attempted to install version 7. If I end up having to do a clean install of my OS due to the problems caused, no more iPod. It's already caused me to spend too much time trying to correct the problem.

    2) How to SMI Label/Format a disk while OS Installation in Solaris 11.1?
As we know that ZFS is the default filesystem in Solaris 11.
We have seen in the Oracle documentation that for rpool below are recommended:
    - A disk that is intended for a ZFS root pool must be created with an SMI label, not an EFI label.
    - Create root pools with slices by using the s* identifier.
    - ZFS applies an EFI label when you create a storage pool with whole disks.
    - In general, you should create a disk slice with the bulk of disk space in slice 0.
I have seen the solution that using format -e, we change the labelling but all the data will be lost, whats the way to apply a SMI Label/Format on a rpool disks while OS Installation itself.
Please provide me the steps to SMI Label a disk while installaing Solaris 11.1 OS.

Oracle recommends below things on rpool: (thats reason wanted to apply SMI Label)

  • How to Boot From an External HD

I am still pondering getting a mini - I know that I will want a much larger hard drive (since I want to use it for media and will keep tons of video and music on it). I would like to know how to boot from an external hard drive. I've searched google, the forums, and apple support, and see people mention it all the time, but can't find out how to do it, etc. Is it just like running off my normal HD but all the files are kept on the external (so I could still access files thru itunes, etc.)?
Also, I would like to get a 500GB+ drive to keep my files on, and was wondering if people had recomendations. Brands, USB 2.0 or Firewire, etc.
Apologies if this is a novice question - but I can't seem to find answers anywhere.
    Thanks in advance.

Firstly, it is certainly possible to boot from an external drive, so what you plan is not only feasible, but since the external would be faster than the internal drive, also rather beneficial to the efficient running of the mini - meaning, the system will be notably faster in use.
In my view, the best option is an external firewire drive, not USB. The reason is that FW has it's own dedicated controller while USB doesn't. In effect, it means that FW data transfer speeds are stable and consistent, while USB rates vary widely, depending on what else the system is doing.
Once you have your external drive connected, the easiest way to make it bootable is to copy your existing MacOS install from the internal drive using software such as Carbon Copy Cloner (downloadable from www.versiontracker.com). This will avoid having to do a lengthy reinstall. Once MacOS is copied, then open System Preferences, and the Startup Disk preference pane, and click on the external drive icon. The next restart will then be directed to the external.
Once you have booted from the external drive, you use it just as you would an internal, and MacOS will treat it as the boot volume, including by default, placing your user account folders on it, including your documents, music etc.

  • Super Noob question, how do i share photos?

My girlfriend and I bought our very first mac yesterday and we love it! We are in the slow transition of putting all our digital files from our PC to our mac and I have come across one problem.
Do we have to upload every thing twice to put it on both accounts? I Figured once she loaded all the pics on her account I would be able to view and access them with mine.
There must be some way to do this. If not my memory seems like it would fill up having all the same files loaded twice.
Again, Super noob here, but loving it so much.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
Frankly, as you are brand new to Macs I suggest you use the above until you're more familiar with the machine and the Operating System.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a dmg.
(Some people have had success putting the library in the Users/ Shared folder. If you do this make sure the file permissions are set to allow read/write access to everyone.)
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • How to boot from USB flash drive - Portege R500

    Hi,
I have a Portege R500 running Windows XP, brought about 2 years ago, and recently contracted a worm virus that has infected some of the start up files as the minute I log in it logs out again, even in safe mode! Quickest way I can think of sorting it is to reformat it with the XP recovery disc and reinstall windows.
Problem!! The CD/DVD drive on the laptop stopped working a while ago, have tried pretty much everything in the thread on this site but had no luck.
So my plan was to boot from a USB flash drive and do it that way. However in the boot settings I only have the options of HDD / FDD / CD-ROM / LAN, neither of these will work. Does anyone know how to boot from USB flash drives?
Any help would be really appreciated

    Hi
As far as I know it should be possible to boot from USB FDD
Im not sure if you would be able to boot from USB flash drive but its definitely worth a try
Generally you could try to press F12 button when notebook powers up.
Then a boot menu should appear on the display and you should see all bootable devices.
PS: As far as I know the USB booting was available in ToshibaHWSetup (Toshiba tool which changes the BIOS settings in windows OS.) Therefore I assume booting from USB should be possible.

  • How to boot your phone into safe mode

If you experience any problem with your phone, booting it into safe mode can be a good idea to check if any third party applications might be involved in the problem you’re having.
If you run your phone in safe mode for a while and you don’t experience any problem, the problem you’re having is most likely related to a third party app that you’ve installed.
How to boot into safe mode differ from models to model and it can also be different depending on firmware version but this topic will explain to you how to do it.
    NOTE!
Booting into safe mode may change personal UI customizations such as icons and folders.
Later Xperia phones running on Android Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 or later)
Press and hold the on/off key until you get this screen.
Now tap and hold the Power off option until you see this screen.
Press OK to reboot into safe mode.
If you have successfully booted into safe mode you will see the text Safe mode in the bottom left corner.
You can also boot into safe mode by turning off the phone and wait a few seconds. Now press and hold both the on/off and volume down (-) key. Keep pressing these two keys until the phone has booted completely.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
Xperia phones using touch menu key running on Android GB (2.3.X) or ICS (4.0.X)
Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn it on again. Now during the boot process start tapping the menu key continuously and keep tapping until the phone has booted completely. Not too fast, not too slow. The beat of Iron man by Black Sabbath is just right.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.
Xperia phones using hardware menu key
Turn off your phone.  Wait a few seconds and then turn in on again. Now during the boot process press and hold the menu key until the phone has booted completely.
To exit safe mode you simply power off and power on as normal.

  • Help please: how to boot from clone/external hard drive because "disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"?

    MBP Retina 15" MID 2014 2.5Ghz
    OS X Yosemite 10.10
I have a external HDD and want to erase and restore my laptop so I can install windows via Bootcamp Assistant but I don't know how to boot from a clone to fix the issue and am not sure if when I erase and restore I will still have Yosemite 10.10? I have no way to reinstall the OS if I lose it. An average user friendly guide would be greatly appreciated please

I do not think you have to erase your MacBook's disk in order to install Windows. First of all you can try a few things before formatting the disk.
The first thing you should do is to check that your MacBook Pro's drive is OK with Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities). After opening it, choose "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar and press "Verify Disk". If it gives you any error, you will have to boot your Mac in OS X Recovery (press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up) to repair Macintosh HD (the steps are the same but pressing "Repair Disk" instead of "Verify Disk").
After you have repaired the drive, boot up in OS X and try partitioning the drive again with Boot Camp Assistant. If it does not work, you will have to format the drive and reinstall OS X, but I will give you these steps only if this does not work.
