NOOB - Settings to import 24p

Hello
me and my friends shot a video for school and we are now editing it. Im using a panasonic dvx100b in 24p (not 24pA). I don't have FCP on my mac so i am using my friend's computer, so i dont really know yet how to use FCP.
Anyway what do i have to do to edit the 24p footage? What settings do i use to import it in 24p and remove the pulldown? and how do i export in the highest quality so i can burn it to a DVD?
Thanks

so even though the project is in 30 the framerate will still look 24? also does it automatically remove the pulldown?
i've heard different things from different places like in this article for the dvx100a in 24p
http://joshuamosley.com/tutorials/FinalCut/24p.html
its showing me a whole different way to set the project up (even though his is in anamorphic) with setting everything to 23.98 with a 2:3:3:2 pulldown (i thought that only applied to 24pA?)
sorry if these are very basic i did do a ton of research but like i said this is my first time using FCP so im a little confused/overwhelmed :/

  • I selected "ACC Encoder-iTunes Plus" for import settings to import cd's. I assumed music purchased from the iTunes Store was mp3 format.Which is it?

I selected "AAC-iTunes Plus" as my import settings when importing CD's to my iTunes library. When I reviewed "get info" on purchased songs from iTunes, it says "Kind: Purchased AAC audio file". All of the purchased songs in my library say this. I assumed all purchased songs were "automatically" imported in mp3 format. Do the import settings I chose also apply to purchased music? Also, what can I do to have my library songs changed to mp3 format?

All songs sold in the iTunes Store are AAC/256.
The import setting affects ripping and conversion.  It has nothing to do with purchases from the iTunes Store.
If you need MP3s, you can convert your AACs by using this procedure:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550  But it would be easier to buy MP3s in the first place, for example from Amazon MP3.
MP3s can be used in iTunes or almost any other player, program or device.

  • Where are the settings and import buttons

I finally got my home sharing to work.  But after selecting all, there are no "settings" or "import" buttons on the bottom right of iTunes.  Help!

This button does not exist on my computers either. Been looking all day. Can share music but can't transfer library ITunes you are about to lose a customer.

  • Lost settings and import tab on with itunes 10

We've lost the settings and import tabs that are supposed to be at the lower right in itunes.  Any idea how to get them back.  And/or how else to import music from an old computer to a new one using home sharing.

You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.

  • Settings to import video from Panasonic T700 camcorder

    Hello Forum,
this is my first post here but I think I'll post often, mainly asking question at first – and here's my first question:
What are the best settings for importing the footage from Panasonic T700 camcorder into the Final Cut 7?
I would appreciate a detailed answer or a good reference to an existing thread here or to existing documents, if possible.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Dimitri Vorontzov

    Hi Tom,
I was just reading some of your post from earlier threads. You're right, it's TM700. My mistake.
Please let me explain my challenge: I'm on this forum as a translator for a non-English speaking videographer who uses a collection of new camcorders, including Panasonic TM700. I'm relatively familiar with Final Cut Pro but not familiar with TM700. I understand that he's shooting ACHDV files in the 1080p60 format, and he needs to be able to edit that footage using FCP 7 and then output the result on a Blu-Ray disk.
    He asked me to ask here on the Forum, what is the most effective way to get the 1080p footage from Panasonic TM700 to FCP;
He also wants to know if there's a way to create an easy setup for a sequence.
What would be the best codec?
Any other questions I should ask here to understand the topic completely?
Should I make a new thread with the correct title so that other people find it easier to find the information?
    Would appreciate your advice.
    Best regards,
    Dimitri Vorontzov

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Not allowed to import 24p footage

Hi in iMovie 08 I could import 24p footage but with iMovie 09 it wont let me. What gives

From what I recall iMovie has never supported 24p playback. Go to iMovie's preferences, (any version of iMovie) and look at the video standards drop down list. You will only see 30fps and 25fps. So even if you could get 24p content into iMovie '09, you'll probably have problems with it when you make projects.
24p has always been a pro-sumer and professional format. To properly edit this footage you'll need software that has this playback and editing mode. Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro are you best options for this.

  • Canon .mts import 24p footage doesn't work ~

I was excited to see Premier CS5 could import Canon's 24p footage and had project settings ready for it.
I was dissapointed to find out that this function doesn't work.  Premier shows my .mts files being 29.97 fps so I'm assuming the camera must inclose the 24p footage inside 29.97 fps container?
Does anyone know a simpe way to open a .mts file in After Effects, interpret the footage to "Guess 2:3 pulldown" open,  and save export the file back into Premier?
I can't seem to figure out how to export the interpretted footage from After Effects back into Premier.

Why are you guys going through all of this trouble?
Premiere works fine with 24p footage if you shoot it that way.  I use it all the time.  XH-A1 has both 24p and 24pn.
One is 24p in a 29.97 wrapper and the other is 23.976 native with flags.  Shoot with the one you want and just use the right preset.
Sorry...I didnt realize you left out the camera you were using.  If it's ont that doesnt have both modes you will need another software to remove the pulldown.

What should my capture settings be at when I import footage shot at 24p? I have heard differing things. Some people have said to capture at 29.97 and others say 24.

  • Trouble importing 24p footage (no timecode!)

I shot a project on a Panasonic HVX-100 in 24p advanced pulldown i believe, and I am not trying to import it into FCP 5 using a canon GL2.
FCP will not let me capture now because it keeps waiting for a time code, but there is not one visible on the tape. Is there a way to work around this? Also I can play the tape on the GL2 and in FCP, just not import it.
    thanks in advance.

All DV footage contains timecode. It is part of the DV stream. If you capture with Firewire the timecode is there, however if you are using Capture Now, FCP will not properly deal with the timecode from the tape. FCP will instead create new timecode fromt the beginning of the capture now footage.
If FCP is "waiting for timecode" that means it is waiting for footage that matches what it expects to see based on your capture settings. I would bet your capture settings are wrong. Close your capture window and do an easy setup for DV NTSC 23.98 Advanced Pulldown removal and try again.
This will not work if the footage is not Advanced 24P. If it is not Advanced just capture with regular DV NTSC (or PAL if you are in the right country). You can remove the pulldown in Cinema tools but I wouldn't recommend it if you are inexperienced.
You could also have a bad firewire cable. I had one a while back and replacing it fixed all kinds of mystery bugs.

  • Is there a way to modify iMovie settings to import a video in monochrome and without audio?

I am hoping to reduce the size of videos imported from a Sony 1080i HDV camcorder. Currently, for a 10 min video, the file sizes are about 6-7 GB. I'd prefer not to resort to reducing dimensions, or have export the files in order to compress them. I don't require audio or color for my analysis, and was hoping eliminating these channels might reduce file size. If iMovie can't do this, are there other software programs that have more flexibility with import settings?
    Thanks!

You can try MPEG Streamclip: http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
It will open your file and it will strip the audio from it. Not shure though, that "monocroming" your video would decrease its size.

  • After Effects CC import "Sequence Footage" frame rate settings in "Import" preferences

Just started using the new AE CC (v12 as Adobe will not refer to it as) I noticed one thing that seems to work differently from CS6 and that is in the preferences for import Sequence footage settings.  It doesn't seem to work normally, at least for me.  I don't know if this is an issue related to how AE CC works with the cloud but the dfault frame rate for sequence footage importing is 30fps.  I am trying to import footage that is natively 23.97 at 24 fps.  So like in CS6 I go to Preferences - Import - Sequence Footage - frame per second and change it from 30 to 24 frames per second.  Closed the software, opened it back up, checked the settings and saw that they took, it still says 24 frames per second like I told it.  But when I import a piece of 23.976 footage, it comes in at 23.976 as opposed to the 24 fps I set it as.  Same goes for 30 fps footage, it comes in at 30 fps and not 24.  User error is always my first assumption, I'm not proud i just want it to work, am I doing something wrong or just confused?  Thanks for any help.  p.s.  help is not someone responding with, "I don't know" or "I don't have AECC yet".  I know somebody is going to!

    Hi Tim,
WOW!  Thanks for the super-fast reply!  As soon as I posted this I realised I should have mentioned that I am importing DPX files.  I do import quicktimes as well but know that the footage import does not apply to a single file, only a sequence of files.  But I still wonder if I may be either doing something wrong or am just a little confused.  I have been using After Effects since CS3 doing compositing for film and I always use DPX sequences.  I did a bunch of comparing and back and forth with AE CS6 and AECC while trying to figure this out.  I always set my preferences up when I upgrade before I start working and I always set them up the same.  I have been using CS6 since last July and it still works the same.  What I did is imported five or six different DPX sequences, some were rendered out as 24 fps, some at 30 and some at 23.976.  Assuming AE looks at the metadata to decide how to auto interpret, AE CC opened them all at their native frame rates of the just mentioned 24, 30 and 23.976 respectively, even though I told it to import at 24fps in the preferences.  I also imported the same files in AE CS6 and they all opened at 24 fps like always.  I know I can change the frame rate in the "Interpret footage" option, that is what I have been doing today so that I can work with footage in 24fps but since I have it set in the preferences to import image sequences at 24fps, I am perplexed as to why it does not do so, so I do not have to interpret the footage to my preferred frame rate, as is the case in AE CS6 as well as it was in CS 5.5 and CS 3.  Since I was lucky enough to have an Adobe employee chime in Tim, I would be curious to see what you may find if you recreated this scenario.  Would it be possible for you or someone at Adobe to set the sequence footage import frame rate to 24 fps in the preferences then try to open a piece of footage that is natively 23.976 fps in both AE CS6 and AE CC?  Like I said, I certainly beleive I may be doing something wrong but I would be very curious to see what you find on your side.  I would not be suprised if it imported at 24 fps in AE CS6 and 23.976 fps in AE CC.

  • Upgrading from CS3 to CS4 - Are user settings auto-imported?

    Hi Folks,
I would like to know how the CS4 installation handles the users settings (the vast array of filters, regex search and find commands, brushes, etc. etc. an avid CS3 user is likely to have). Are these automatically imported into the CS4 folders for use in CS4?
OR does the user have to manually find and copy over these settings?
    With thanks,
    Jonathan

    Thanks Dave,
That's I suspected, as this was the case for CS2 through to CS3.
How Adobe can justify not having a completely automated upgrade process for what is potentially a $2500 suite of software, I am not sure. There must be some reason, although I haven't thought of any.
Does Adobe at least provided a document that outlines the non-automated upgrading of the Creative Suite? Many users are not technically inclined toward hunting out tens of user setting folders spread out all over the show, and manually copying them to new locations. Surely Adobe is aware of this?
The above questions and statements are primarily aimed at Adobe, although I realise these are User to User forums. I am essentially thinking out loud.
    Cheers,
    Jonathan
