Noob Window on OSX Question

OK. Gaming on iMac G5... There are about a dozen games I am content to playing if I just keep OSX.
However, I know that my Intel based iMac can handle Windows.
1. Best win app for noobie (bootcamp or the others)?
2. Can my mac even play newer releases stable (w/ ATI-1600)?
3. Lastly, how stable has Windows been for you out there who have installed it (and do you use it for gaming or just...work?)

3. As stable, or more stable, than if you installed Windows on a typical non-Apple computer.
Lastly, I'm slightly confused as to what computer you actually have... unless you have two iMacs.
Do you have a G5 iMac, or an Intel iMac? They are two different computers.
There's no such thing as a G5 iMac with an Intel processor.

No, you won't need more than a single drive. There are several options to meet your needs.
OS X can partition your external, and the formats for the various volumes can be HFS+ (the native Mac format) or FAT-32 (Windows format). While OS X cannot create NTFS volumes, and it cannot write to them, it can read them. Any FAT-32 volumes created in OS X can be converted to NTFS by Windows, if and when you like.
Windows cannot natively read HFS+ volumes, and only the FAT-32 format will be both read and write for both Windows and OS X. However, there are some third-party solutions.
"Macdrive" is a Windows utility that allows it to access HFS+ volumes as read/write. On the Mac side, there is "MacFuse," which gives OS X the ability to not just read, but write to NTFS volumes.

Look for these two files.
AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click on those and select “Move To Trash”.

Did you also get a monitor with higher resolution?
The UI size is not adjustable in ID (more's the pity), and I can't think of anything about the OS that would affect the size. Monitor size and resolution, on the other hand, will definitely affect how big ID's UI elements are displayed.

Windows and OSX support for Proximity

Is there an install for Windows and OSX support for Proximity.
I have upgraded all of my endpoints to TC7.1.2. (SX, C Series, EX) and Proximity is working great however most of my users bring laptops to meetings not iOS devices.
Any timeframe ?

@fcosgrove; we are currently starting a limited trial for Win and Mac clients (EFT, part of TC 7.3). The main feature for the laptop client is sharing FROM your laptop to the video endpoint, so you can skip the cable, dongles etc in the room.
We do have plans for supporting call control and content receive to the laptop as well, but that's later.
The first PC & Mac version has target for first half 2015, but is subject to change (as in: not yet committed).

Newb Questions - Transition from Windows to OSX

Hi, i still use windows on my PC but i would like to set up my OSX to operate in the same ways for some things.
1. Home / End keys on keyboard how can i change those to operate how they would on windows where when focusing on text clicking those keys takes you to the end of the line or the beginning. I tried changing my preferences like a couple sites said but it doesnt seem to work in anything but firefox.
2. When clicking on a ICON from the DOCK i would like it to open a new instance of the APP. For example i already have firefox open and i click on the firefox icon on the dock, i want it to open a new instance of the app, not bring the current instance of the app to focus.
3. I cant for the life of me figure out how to configure button 4 & 5 on my mouse. Mainly i want to use them for going forward/backwards like when browsing or evening using Finder.
4. When you have multiple versions of an app open you can visually see this in the Windows Task bar, is it possible to set up the DOCK or some 3rd party app to support that? I have 4 ICONS on my DOCK and thats all ill ever have so im not worried about space.
5a. When using spaces and i have lets say in section #1 firefox open and i move to section #2 and trying to open firefox it will just go back to section #1 and bring firefox to focus. So i would instead like it to open a new instance of the APP i click in that space.
5b. Is it at all possible with spaces to take a current instance of a program and somehow move it to a different space?

Dual booting with Windows Vista/OSX 10.5 Leopard with 2 GPU's?

Can I install a Nvidia GTX280 graphics card in a Mac Pro and use it to play games when booted into Windows Vista and use the included ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT card for booting into OSX? Or is this not possible? Is there any other way to install a GTX 280 card in a Mac? I would really love to buy a Mac Pro but need to be able to install a GTX 280 in it to be able to play games on higher settings than any of the available Apple supported cards.
I know this question may have been asked before so I am apologizing in advance...

External Drive For Windows And OSX

Hello!
I'm using an external USB/FW drive for back up. It's formatted as "OSX Extended".
1) If I copy the data off this drive, what format would I need to re-format it in, so as to be able to back up from both OSX and Windows?
2) Will I be able to reload the first set of data, once I re-format it in the other format?

I don't recall either of those being mentioned in the OP's question, Niel. Only "backup" which does not necessarily mean Time Machine.
You might mention how much it will cost to buy MacDrive: Standard is $50 and Pro is $70.00.
BTW, I know you can't use FAT for Time Machine nor bootable backups. But FAT is not limited for use as a backup drive using other utilities that haven't the limitations or reliability issues of Time Machine.

CMIS connector save behavior on Mac OSX question

I've been working on implementing a CMIS compliant server and have a question about the behavior of Adobe Drive when saving files on Mac OSX. When an application saves a file to the network drive, Adobe Drive is sending a request to create a folder named "(A Document Being Saved By ...)" as part of the process. This only occurs on OSX and not on Windows.
Since a lot of the CMIS connector's testing seemed to be against Alfresco, I took at look at how Alfresco Handles the situation. Alfresco seems to work around this annoyance by allowing the folder creation but automatically removes the folder in short order. While I could implement similar behavior, I am trying to avoid as much client specific handling as possible.
Is this folder creation absolutely necessary on Adobe Drive's part?

The folder creation request depends on the specific application. If an document-based application in Mac OS X uses NSDocumentController to operate the document, a temporary folder "(A Document Being Saved by xxx)" will be created, this is the normal document saving process. If the document is saved, the temp folder will be deleted soon by this application. Please see this link: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/Documents/Articles/ ObjectInteractions.html as reference.
So the folder create request from Adobe Drive is normal for this scenario, and after saving the document into the mounted drive by Adobe Drive, the delete request(deleting this temp folder) will be sent from Adobe Drive. I think Alfresco doesn't provide any workaround for this. For Alfresco server, it just handles the temp folder creation and deleting as the same as the normal folder.

Installing Web Premium CS4 Student Edition on Laptop After Windows 7 Upgrade Question

I hope that this hasn't been asked before but my question is the following: I want to upgrade my laptop computer from Windows XP to Windows 7. But I hear that all programs get uninstalled after installing Windows 7 on a Windows XP machine. I would have to reinstall all programs again to use Web Premium CS4. But my student edition says that I can only install the program on two computers. Does this mean that I can install the program only two times or can I still install on the same laptop after changing the OS (I installed CS4 on two computers, my laptop and desktop)? I would very much like to continue using Web Premium CS4 on my laptop but am worried that I won't be able to install it since I installed CS4 on my laptop and desktop (two installs already). Let me know if I can install on the same laptop after upgrading to Windows 7. Thanks in advance for the help.

The issue is not installation...it's activation. Deactivate the software first. (Help > Deactivate from any application).
Back up all of your data, preferences, etc because as you note, this will be a clean install of Windows. Be aware that this is only recommeneded method for upgrading a Windows installation. NEVER do an in place Windows (or, IMO, Mac OSX) upgrade.

New mac owner, I was a casual OSX user before buying my MBP with some questions:
1. When I hit back when browsing files in the finder, is there anyway to keep the vertical location of the previous folder? It always defaults to the top, which I find very annoying.
2. Is there any program that handles spell checking in a similar fashion to mail's spell checking (check as you type, right click to correct) that works in every applicable text field?
3. I have a website with ftp support which I can connect though via cmd+k but I can only view and download my files.
If I try and upload a file I get:
"The item "file_name.xxx" could not be moved because "folder_name" cannot be modified"
If I try and delete a file I get:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 'file_name.xxx'."
I've used ftp programs on windows without a problem, so I don't think it's a server side issue. I would love to use the network connect instead of getting a dedicated ftp program, due to it's integrated nature and ease of use. Under ownership and permissions, it says I can only read, how can I fix this?
I'm loving my mac, OSX is great just hope to get solutions to these issues I'm having.

I don't know, but maybe it was set for the top the previous time it was viewed. Each time you double click on a folder to navigate to a new one, it assumes the position of the previous view when click on the back button. Think of them as views when you click on the back button. Maybe it has to do with the type of view you are using. That's something we can explore further.

Safari has built-in spell as you type checking support when editing text under its Edit menu.
TextEdit has spell as you type checking.
Word for the Mac has it.
Pages has it.
Is there some program you aren't getting it?

Safari's FTP support is awkward for sure. I prefer http://www.rbrowser.com/ 's FTP software for doing direct connections to regular FTP servers, and Fugu from: http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu/ for SFTP connections.
Most other Mac web browsers have built-in FTP support:

Auto Download Window in OSX Lion

Another in a long series of questionable (and continuing) events has just started on my new iMac with OSX Lion. Each time I boot a window opens directing me to sign in to use this computer for automatic downloads. I've had my iMac since September and it has never opened this window before; I just reinstalled my OSX 10.7.2 because of continuing problems with the software and this window tasking has only started since the reinstall a week ago. Why does this occur now? How can I turn it off and download what I want when I want? Too bad I can't load Snow Leopard and dump Lion, but that's another situation...

Is there any possible way I can dual boot Windows with OSX 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006?

I am new to this forums.
I have searched about dual boot win/mac, but couldn't find a clear answer, so I decided to post this now.
I run a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006 (Intel based) and have upgraded it to OSX 10.7.2 Lion.
I have tried to install windows 7 on a small (20GB) partition by using Bootcamp, but then I've received a notice saying that there was no windows support software available. However, I did install Windows 7 Professional by unchecking that box. After the installation I have downloaded the windows support software and tried to install it but then I've received a notice saying that I can't install it on this machine.
Could you please give me any suggestions on how to dual boot win/mac, if it is possible at all using this machine? And how to safely go back to where I was before (with a single mac OSX 10.7.2 partition)?
