Normal Temperatures for Minis

I've searched quite a bit but can't seem to locate any stats on what is considered the "normal range" for temperatures. I'm not currently experiencing any problems, but recently got the program "Temperature Monitor" (Bresink) hoping it might read my external HDs (NOT).
This Mini has always seems to run a little hot IMHO, so I though I would check it out...
2009 Mini 2.0 Dual Core w/4GB RAM and upgraded to a 7200RPM 320GB internal.
My numbers -
CPU A Temp Diode - 83C/181F
Hard drive bay - 53C/127F
Northbridge position 1 - 65C/149F
Smart Disk WDC WD3200BEKT - 54C/129F
Wireless Module - 63C/149F
CPU Core 1 - 82C/180F
CPU Core 2 - 79C/174F
The little bit I've read seems to say this is awfully high, but I'm not positive. The room is air conditioned to 78F, and it's on a desktop with the back end just at the edge of the desk - exposed to open space. It's currently been running Handbrake transcodes for the past 24+ hours straight, as well as Safari and a few other small things. I realize the factory HDs are only 5400RPM (probably to save on heat).
Shall I run out and get a fire extinguisher? LOL

so.. i assume you measured the temperatures while or directly after doing a handbrake encoding?
nope. don't think you need a fire extinguisher. i've a late 2009 mini with 2,26 GHz cpu and also 4 GB RAM. when using handbrake (which puts the cpu under a 95% load) my core temps will even rise to a 100°C, before the fan starts to spin up from it's usual 1500 rpm base speed to cool them down to an average of 89/90°C while encoding. as i haven't experienced this behaviour and temperatures on my old 1,66 GHz coreduo mini, i phoned apple care several times until i got someone from their technical department. he assured me that this temps and the relatively late spinning up of the fan are perfectly within the specs of the 2009 series of minis and macbooks as the cpu itself can stand it (tjunction max at 105°C) and new buliding materials allow for higher temperatures than in the older series models.
however.. when doing an encoding, i use smcfancontrol, a freeware tool that allows you to adjust the fan's base speed without tempering with the general build in smc fan settings of the mac and also allows you to create different fan settings for different cpu usage scenarios.

  • Normal temperature for NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Hi, what is the normal temperature for NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT when on notebook I use only word, or some programs, no play games.

normal depends on the environment, the ambient temperature.  Is it hot where you use it?  Do you use it on a hard surface or place it directly on your lap or some cloth type surface.  There are quite a number of variables.  What temperatures are you noticing?
if I work with word or use internet the temperature is about 55*C

The numbers you describe are high but not deadly high.

These suggestions are very generic. Try bending out a paperclip and sticking it in the grille to hold the blades. Then blow in some strong compressed air and see if dust flies out. If none of this works, it might help to open the laptop and manually clean out the fan area and reseat the fan/heatsink with new thermal paste. Post back if you want specific instructions on that. If the fan spins faster as the heat increases and then slows down as it cools off and makes no grinding or other weird noise it is probably OK.

  • What is the normal temperature for a MacBook Pro?

I have a mid 2010 2.4 ghz core i5 Macbook Pro. And i fell that the temperatures get really hot, i installed a application to check and the temperature of my machine is around 90 degrees Celsius after just using it for 15 mins and thats in higher RPM (4000 while default if 2000). Is that normal?

    I.ahuja,
“normal Web surfing” can be GPU-intensive; for example, watching videos is a GPU-intensive task.
Regarding the benefit, again, it depends on one’s typical use. If you run apps which are disk-bound, then replacing the HDD with a SSD would be of benefit.

  • What is a normal temperature for a PowerBook G4?

I've just installed the handy temp guage widget and I get readings of 110 degrees F for the disc and 150 degrees on the processor bottom side.... Seems pretty damm hot to me.

What temp is the room the PB is in? I've seen where the room temperature goes into the mid-80's, that the normal PB 120's quickly gets into the 130's.
When it's running hot, have you looked at the activity monitor (on your hard drive in applications/utilities) to see if any program is causing the CPU to max out?
Have you run the Apple hardware test to ensure the fans are working? Insert the OS X DVD that came with your system (it will say in small print on the DVD AHT Version x.x), reboot holding the option key down, choose Apple hardware test, and follow directions. One of the tests specifically turns the fans on and off.

  • What is the normal temperature for MacBook Pro's when charging?

I really wanted to know because sometimes I feel like my MacBook Pro is too hot. I don't want anything to melt in there. So I decided to download a temperature monitor.
What is the highest healthy temperature a MacBook Pro can reach?
    Also ---
What is the average temperature of a MacBook Pro?
Thank you so much! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
I have a NewerTech external charger with an inbuilt battery calibrator. It provides 2 charging methods: it either fast charges or conditions (calibrates) the battery. Fast charging, which fully charges the battery in about 2 hours, causes the battery to noticeable heat up. However, conditioning, which discharges then recharges the battery, is so gradual that the battery remains cool (at ambient temperature).
The charger has 2 slots (for 2 batteries) and will charge or condition 1 or 2 batteries but not at the same time. For example, it will fast charge one battery and when finished switch to conditioning the second battery. This charging regime means the universal power supply connected to the charger can be less powerful (and smaller), i.e., it will deliver sufficient current to fast charge one battery at a time. Batteries may be left in the charger which automatically switches to trickle charge when continuous charging finishes.
The heat generated by the battery in the MBP is caused by fast charging and whilst I have never made any temperature recordings of the base of my MBP I can confirm that sometimes it gets so hot that it can be painful if in contact with the skin, e.g. resting on ones lap. This is normal. The battery also heats up when the MBP is running solely on battery power. Excessive heat could indicate a battery fault and it should be removed and examined immediately as any distortion, e.g., swelling, can damage the MBP.
An external charger/conditioner is useful if you have a spare battery, or two.
    Regards
    Phil

  • Normal Temperature for my Macbook

I purchased a macbook last month and I noticed it seems to heat up even though its on a hard flat surface. What is the regular running temperature? Right now mine is running at 60c. My specs are:
    Mac osx 10.5.4
2.4 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRam
    Thanks in advance

A flat surface isn't the best for keeping it cool. Elevate the rear of the computer to allow better ventilation underneath (not to mention better for typing.)
Without knowing what you are doing and what programs are running it's hard to give you an answer. Suffice it to say that the typical range is around 40-85ºC depending upon CPU load and GPU load. Also the drive speed (5400 vs 7200 RPM - faster drives have higher idle power consumption) and ambient room temperature affect operating temperature.
In any event expect it to be hot - all Intel laptops are hot regardless of manufacturer. You'll even find a warning about the heat in your User Guide (you have read it, right?)

  • Right CPU temperature for MacBook?

I downloaded an application today that lets me see how hot my processor is running, it displays the temperature in the menu bar. I thought it was running a little hot, so I did some Google searches and saw the average temperature was about 43-50C, mine's running anywhere from 56-60C.
Is the running temperatures different for MacBooks? In a sense, is this normal temperature for the MacBook? I have good ventilation for it, my fan works fine and all that, but I'm curious as to what average running temperature is, and what's safe, what I should be expecting, etc.
    Thank you!

We have had many discussions on MacBook temps. Normal temp is usually 50ºC to 60ºC. Then when it gets hot it can get up to around 80ºC to 85ºC. Some run cooler, not by much, and some run hotter.
Yours is normal. See this for info also. Apple Notebooks: Operating Temperatures

  • Optimum operating temperature for 1.42/1.25DP MDD Machine

    Hello all,
I have a DP 1.25 MDD. Lovin' it! My question: Last night, my machine was running at 135 degrees fahrenheit. After reading about chud tools 3.5.2 and enabling nap mode, my fans and temperature have gone down TREMENDOUSLY. Of course, I also installed the PCI Exhaust fan from my DA Mac. Right now, my CPU temperature reads 108.5 - a far far cry from 135.
Can someone tell me what is the normal temperature for the dual processor MDD'S? I am trying to get this thing below 100 degrees.
    Nadav

    Hi Carl,
I intend to enjoy it, and enjoy it for a long time, well not too long, but a lot longer than when I had the digital audio and that beast ran with 300 percent perfection and no problems at all.
Now that I finally got the original restore cd's and os x install disks, I can now proceed hopefully(keeping my fingers crossed) to dual boot into OS 9.2.2, however it seems that the chud tools only work in OS X and not in OS 9.2.2, but then again I am not worried since my DP 1.25 is able to handle it.
Right now according to temperature monitor the temperature of "CPU B" is now:
95.8 degrees + the fact that I took out the PCI fan card from my digital audio machine, now my son's machine. I do see the fan doing its job effectively. My question then is: How to keep the chud tools and nap mode enabled throughout the whole mac? Meaning, when in OS 9.2.2 and also booting things.
Above all, I am very happy and pleased with this G4. I wonder if the next OS will work on this?
according to rumor sites and I HATE rumors, they are saying that no G4 will be supported, but this has to be a lie.

  • Is my t420s running at a normal temperature?

I just purchased a used thinkpad t420s and I was wondering if it's overheating or running at the correct temperature. The CPU idles in the mid to low 50's (Celsius) and and will top out at 95 Celsius running prime 95. While running a virus scan and watching a YouTube video the chip is running in the high 80's. Is this normal? According to Intel, the max temp allowed is 100 Celsius. I have all of the power settings set for maximum performance. Here is a link to my chip http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz
I sould mention that using TPFC.63 I always crank the fan up higher then the bios will control them, So I'm guessing the teps are normal, because the bios would probably spool the fans to full power if the system was about to shut down from overheating.
    Solved!

    Hi Daniel250,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with System over heating on your ThinkPad T420s.
The normal temperature for CPU at 72 centigrade and GPU at 68 centigrade is in the safe temperature range.
If you feel that your laptop is warmer than usual, do clean the vents and fan via using a pump blower to remove the dust particles stuck in the vents and it also maybe with the thermal paste between your heat sink and the processor core may have been used up. You may consider getting some good thermal paste and apply over the processor core to ensure best heat transfer property
    Hope this helps.

    Hemanth Kumar

  • What is a normal operating temperature for a 15" MBP 2.33 duel?

i know this has been beaten to death, but i never can find what is considered to be a "normal operating temperature" for the MBP.
mac book pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

An MBP C2D should operate from 50ºC through to about 85ºC. I find mine averages in the low 50's however I don't do a lot on it. Anything that really requires processing gets done on my Mac Pro. It really comes down to how hard, or not, you push the processors.
Comparitively I find that it generally runs cooler than the PowerBook G4 1.25GHz it replaced however it does get hotter under maximum load. It just comes down to what you do with your MBP. You've basically asked "how long is a piece of string".
