Normal to take 10 hours to charge an iPad Retina?

Is it normal for my iPad to take 10+ hours to charge?  I can't believe how incredibly slowly it charges?  I understand that it has a bigger battery and more battery life than iphone but the charging time has to be 4 to 5 times my iPhone but the battery life is only double...

No. There's circuitry to prevent that. The only thing you'll experience is that your iPhone will charge faster using the iPad's charger. the 10-12W chargers are for the iPads, the 5W chargers are for iPhones or iPods, but you can use an iPad charger for an iPhone or iPod.
There's tiny little print on the charger specifying its output. What some have found helpful is to use a sharpie or other such marker to denote which is which since they do look alike.

  • Can any one tell me should it take 6-8 hours to charge my iPad 2?

Can any one tell me should it take 6-8 hours to charge my iPad 2?

I have a iPad 2, when I let it go dead and then I put it on charge it takes about 6-8 hours to fully charge. Is that the normal time it takes to charge or could there be something wrong with my iPad 2.

  • I dropped my iPad mini on the floor, but it was not at all a big drop and landed firmly but the lightning cable inside my iPad cracked and from now on I have been using my sisters iPad charger(the same as old one) and now it take 4 hours to charge 8% HELP

I dropped my iPad mini on the floor, but it was not at all a big drop and landed firmly but the lightning cable inside my iPad cracked and from now on I have been using my sisters iPad charger(the same as old one) and now it take 4 hours to charge 8% HELP!!

It sounds like the drop damage more then just the lightning adapter.
I suggest you take it to Apple and ask them to check it out for you.

  • My iPad 4th gen takes 10+ hours to charge!?

My new iPad 4th gen wi-fi takes an extremely long time to charge, upwards of 8-12 hours. I have had no other issues with it so far but I came from an iPad 2 which took maybe 2-3 hours to charge. I am just curious if this is normal or should I consider exchanging it before its too late. Thanks

I've been using my 4th Gen iPad since early January and have to charge it overnight as it takes so long... not just the initial charge... every charge. It's pointless trying to do it during the day as it invariably means I can't use it, without being next to the wall.
I had assumed that the battery in this model is bigger and takes longer. My wife's 2nd Gen iPad charges in only a couple of hours.
I must say i'm impressed with the life of each charge though. My normal use means it generally needs to be charged every 2-3 days.

  • TS1702 Is it normal to take 20 hours to update iPad software to iOS 5.1.1?

Is it normal to take 12 to 20 hours to update the iPad software to version iOS 5.1.1?

That really is extremely slow. But at this point, I would hate to see you stop the download in fear of messing something up. I know it kind of bites - but wait it out and maybe it won't take as long as it is showing.
But if the time starts increasing on the counter, them I would assume that something is really wrong.

  • Can i use a 5 watt charger on ipad retina?

Have an ipad retina display ( not mini) my charger got ruined and bought a 5 watt charger, can i use it?, will it ruin my ipad? Will it reduce the overall batrery life. Thank you for support

No, the iPads use chargers that are either 10 or 12 watts...a 5 watt charger is not powerful enough to charge an iPad.

  • My BB Z30 very slow charging it take 8 hours full charging

It is always recommended that BlackBerry users use BlackBerry branded accessories that come with the device. You should use the BlackBerry charger that came with the device. When charging a BlackBerry smartphone (Z30, Passport, Leap etc) with large batteries, it may take a while to fully charge the battery. Basically bigger batteries take longer to charge. I would say 8 hours to fully charge a BlackBerry Z30 is about right. For me personally I would leave my BlackBerry device charging longer.

Dear Sir !my bbz30 very slow charging it full charge in 8 hours please help me. i have charger 2amp charger. please tell which amp best fast charging for my bbz30.  thank you

  • Please help me today after 8 hours of charge, my iPad has been acting funny, it keeps pressing buttons by itself I'm not joking please help me!! iPad 1 user

Please help, it is not working, I'm not even joking how can I fix this and how much would it cost?

    Try this:
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Reset All Settings does not delete anything, all it does is take most of the iPad's settings back to default (with the exception of accounts setting, and maybe a couple other things.) It is perfectly safe.
The only inconvenience is that you have to go back through almost all your settings and set them to your preference.

  • My iPad 3 seems to take forever to charge. It will easily take 6 hours plus to fully charge to 100%, it has always been like this so thought it was normal, however my friends point out it isn't. Does anyone else have similar charging times? Thanks, Claire

    Hi All,
I have had my iPad 3 since Feb 2012 and have always commented on it's slowness to charge. I was just wondering if it's meant to take 6 hours plus to charge to 100% or if this is a bit excessive?
As it has always done it, I have never really thought of it but a lot of my friends are now commenting that it's a really long time and it shouldn't take that long.
    Thanks,
    Claire

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

  • While charging my ipad when i plugged in the adapter, the adapter and the usb port gets very very hot... Is this normal? I replaced my ipad and adapter but the problem still exist.

While i charge my ipad with adapter the adapter more specifically the internal round cell of adapter and the usb port becomes very very hot... And ultimately my ipad back starts heating a bit. Is that normal?

Take your charger, cable & iPad to an Apple Store for evaluation.

  • My Ipad 1 doesn't charge even after 5 hours of charging. I tried pressing the power and home button to reset it (even tried toggling the mute button a few times), but It doesn't start up with the apple logo. Anyone has any ideas what else can I try

a have tried everyting now a dont have a clue what too do??

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • HT4060 My iPad 3 is taking over 12 hours to charge.  Any suggestions?

It now takes almost 12 hours to charge my iPad 3 using a wall socket as a power souce.  Do I need a new battery?

Are you using an iPad charger? it can be very easy to accidentally use an iPhone one. But the iPad charger puts out 10-12W while the iPhone one only 5W.
If you are using an iPad charger you can swap outlets and, if possible, swap cords and charger. If the problem persists then I'd call your local apple store and make an appointment and have them check it out.

  • Keyboard scratches Screen and Reinstall OSX takes 8 hours

Only 2 months ago I bought a macbookpro. I was all excited, my first mac.
    2 months later...
I had bought a case for it to protect it.
I carry it in my backpack in a separate sleeve designed to not allow pressure on the device when carried in the backpack.
The keyboard has completely scratched the screen...Thats PANTS!!!
Also I installed java update and it completely rendered the java unusable and thus had to reinstall the whole OS...I need java because I am in a java programing class.
To reinstall the OS it took over 8 hours..watching a little loader circle (throbber) go around and around over and over...I know this is not normal to take 8 hours to reinstall an OS...
I called apple support and they wont do anything...
Still no satisfaction and the thing runs slow as ****... Keep in mind that I am a computer technician of over 10 years... I have checked the system and cannot find any problems barring it being a hard drive issue which tests okay.
    Any ideas...
    thanks
    <Edited by Host>

I am trying to understand your basic problems that you are reporting.
Only 2 months ago I bought a macbookpro
    2 months later...
I had bought a case for it to protect it.
The keyboard has completely scratched the screen
So, does that mean that the scratched screen issue happened "all at once"? 2 months ago to 2 months later sounds like you are talking about "today" or thereabouts.
I carry it in my backpack in a separate sleeve designed to not allow pressure on the device when carried in the backpack.
    What does "it" refer to?
    1) The MBP
    2) The case that you purchased "2 months later"
    3) The MBP in the case that you purchased "2 months later"
Or is the backpack the case that you purchased "2 months later"?
Also I installed java update and it completely rendered the java unusable and thus had to reinstall the whole OS
Ok, so live learn and perhaps next time read first read "Java Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for developers" (http://developer.apple.com/java/faq/#remove), where your issue is clearly explained and likely could have been avoided.
How can I switch between multiple versions of Java on my Mac?
The Java Preferences application allows users to choose which version is used by applications, Applets, and command-line tools. Apple developer tools such as Jar Bundler and Xcode both allow you to request a minimum or specific Java version for double-clickable applications. Please see the Java 1.4 Info.plist Dictionary Keys documentation for details.
Can I remove a Java update after I've installed it?
Java on Mac OS X is updated incrementally through numerous releases. Therefore, the only way to revert to an earlier Java installation is to reinstall the operating system. The same applies for any other Java-related Software Updates or Developer Previews. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that Developer Previews of Java on Mac OS X be installed on non-critical systems.
Sometimes a little research goes a long way.
Yes I am a computer technician....
I know you are. That is why I stated:
    How about:

I didn't want to mince words with a fellow as savvy and experienced as you, just trying to provide a link to a document. I understand your are frustrated; it might help to sublimate some of that energy into a focused dialogue. Apparently you are in school (java programing class / backpack), so it is also good time to put on the "big-boy pants" and the "thinking hat".
