"Normalize Clip Volume" is grayed out

Sorry for posting such a basic question, but I'm at wits end. I have a very simple movie (iM 8.0.4), a dozen clips or so, and want to "even out" the audio levels. When I select multiple clips (really I want to do the whole movie), open the inspector and click Audio, the Normalize Clip Volume option is not available (it's grayed out). Curiously, when I only have 1 clip selected, that button is available. Thanks, Jeff

You need to do it one clip at a time.
Here is a way to do it for multiple clips that might work, but I have not tried it.:
If you have multiple clips, try setting it to Normalize for the first clip.
Then withe the first clip still selected, EDIT/COPY
Then EDIT/SELECT ALL
Then EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS
(But this may over-ride any other audio adjustments you have made clip-by clip and set them all at the settings for the first clip)

  • Why is the volume control grayed out?

    Hi,
I am attempting to record from a Sony ECM-MS957 mike that is connected to my iBook with a Griffin iMic onto GarageBand3.
I am following the "Learn to Podcast" tutorials from Apple. With the Sony mic connected the volume control in the track info window is grayed out. If I un-plug the Sony mic and use the built in mic the volume control becomes active.
I have the iMic selected in the System Preferences and the volume indicator responds to the mic. The iMic is also selected in the GarageBand preferences.
Can someone explain to me what I am doing wrong here.
    Thanks

  • Why are my "Clip, Fade to" grayed out?

I'm new to iMovie (from Windows Movie Maker) and just playing around.  I've created a project and I'm trying to use the "Fade to" options.  But when I choose "Clip, Fade to" the options are grayed out.

In the project, click then drag across the clip thumbnails so that a section is highlighted with a yellow border. You can drag the handles in or out either side of the highlighted area in order to shorten or lengthen the selection. Now when you go to the menu item "Clip>Fade to" the selections for Black & White, Sepia and Dream will be available. Click on your preferred option to apply the effect.
The idea behind the "Fade to" is to create a gradual change within the clip from colour to black & white, sepia or dream. If you do this at the end of a clip, so that, say, the last 4 seconds are highlighted, the clip will gradually dissolve to the selected effect and finish on that effect. Or, you can create the effect within the clip so that it fades to the effect, then back to the original colour, based on where you've placed the highlighted area within the clip.
When you apply the effect, iMovie will split the clip at the appropriate points, then will automatically place a dissolve between each split segment.
NOTE: You can adjust the duration of the dissolve (fade) by double-clicking on the transition and adjusting the time in the Inspector.
    John
PS. Highlighting a portion at the very beginning of a clip then applying the effect will cause the selection to change from the effect to the original colour. That is, you can fade up from black & white, or sepia or dream to the original colour.

  • Equalize Volume Levels Grayed Out

I have been working with premiere pro for quite a while but my company was looking for a way to speed up and simplify the process quite a bit, and since volume has been the main problem soundbooth seemed to be a good choice. From what I have read about the equalize volume levels feature in soundbooth, this would eliminate most of the problems and anyone here would be able to do it. I had the video open in premiere and selected render and replace in sb on the audio, but the option to equalize volume levels is always grayed out. I tried selecting portions of the track, as well as selecting different windows in the workspace to see if it was just an issue with the selection but I can't seem to get the equalize volume levels option to become available. What could be causing this option to be unavailable?

When you bring the audio over, what format is it?

  • Volume button grayed out

The volume button is grayed out and theres a circle with a slash under it. I am using an iMac and I do not know what has happened!

The computer can't detect any speakers connected. In order to fix this, first open System Preferences > Sound > Output, and choose "Internal Speakers". If this doesn't work, reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 The PRAM contains the speaker information, so it will be reset to default settings. After restarting the Mac again, it should be working without any problem.
If not, open System Preferences > Sound > Output, and select "Internal Speakers"

  • Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini.  I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far.  I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

    Not on mac though

  • Split event before selected clip grayed out

When editing movies, the option "split event before selected clip" is always grayed out...can anyone help???

The reason to split an event is to make the footage easier to find when you start making projects. For example, if you shot a birthday party on the afternoon and a football game at night, they might import into the same Event (based on date). You could select the first clip of football and right-click/Split Event Before Selected Clip. Now you have two Events...a birthday party event and a football event.
This has nothing to do with sharing and projects.
A single project can use clips from many events.
And you can make many projects from the clips in a single event.
The project does not duplicate the footage that is stored in the Event, it just references it.
A project is really a text file that is a recipe for building a movie. The recipe is executed when you "Share" or render your movie.
For example the Project file might say
"Look in Event XYZ and grab frames 1 through 200 from the third clip.
Add an audio track from iTunes, and mute the audio track from the Event.
Add a title that says this or that.
Apply some color correction in these parameters.
Now look at Event QPR and grab the second and third clips, but trim off the last 10 frames."
    Etc.
    Hope this helps.
If you want to share multiple movies from an Event, you just create multiple projects that reference the event. Choose the frames you need by dragging and dropping. And then share the projects.
No need to get QuickTime Pro involved.

  • DI imported an mpeg4 video into iMovie 10.0.5 and the Precision Editor is grayed out and I can't edit.  Why??

I imported an mpeg34 video into iMovie 10.0.5 and I am unable to edit it.  Precision Editor and Clip Trimmer are grayed out.  Any idea why this is happening?

Did you get any joy with answering this?
My first thought was that maybe when you imported you chose to leave the files  in place rather than copy then to the iMovie library..but I can't see where that option is now.
I too have created a short movie from load f clips..but can't export or share either..the 'Share 'menu is empty..you go to it and no sub menu appears.

  • Yellow triangle and a grayed out movie clip

Hi, I created a project in iMovie 08, kind of elaborate for me, with several movie clips, each with a transition, and background music from iTunes through out the majority of the 3 minute and 30 second final project. Initially, all was well and the project played perfectly. A couple of days later when I went into iMovie 08 to enhance the project, several clips were grayed out and had a yellow triangle in the clip. Placing the cursor over the clip resulted in the clip "coming to life" that is revealing the clip but the clip was not visible in the browser and the grayed out clips were not visible if I played the project in full screen mode. If I published the project to the web, the grayed out clips would not show (the video portion); the audio which was part of the whole project would play. I do not think I moved any clips to a different location although I certainly added other clips to iPhoto and then to iMovie. I just finished the lynda.com training on iMovie 08 which was just released and I got no help from that training on the yellow triangle problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Great news! After some browsing around, I located the problem, and now my movie project is fixed!
As it turns out, videos that are located in iPhoto are referenced based on the Event that they belong to, which means that if you change the name of the Event that the picture belongs to then iMovie will no longer be able to find your picture. (This is also why the clips appear in the lower section of iMovie, because they are still there, just in a renamed or merged event.)
I was able to fix the problem very easily by renaming my event back to the original name, and then after closing and restarting iMovie all the nasty little yellow triangles were gone and all my clips were back as if they'd never left.
This may or may not help, but for me, to make sure that I got the event name correct, I found the movie file (which was in "Movies/iMovie Projects") and then right mouse clicked and selected "Show Package Contents" so that I could see what was in my project, and then opened the "Project" file, which had the names listed in it. Hope that helps!

  • Asmca has grayed out Volumes and ASM Cluster File Systems 11.2.0.3

I've got a two node cluster which is up and running with the latest 11.2.0.3 grid install on Oracle Linux 6.3
I need to get a shared storage location I can use for File I/O testing, ASM looks like the solution with an ASM Cluster File System.
When I run asmca I do not have the ability to create these volumes or file systems as they are Grayed out.
I found some instructions on how to get it to work, and they said to use acfsload to start up the required daemons:
    [root@oracleA bin]# ./acfsload start -s
ACFS-9459: ADVM/ACFS is not supported on this OS version: '2.6.39-300.17.3.el6uek.x86_64'
I installed Patches: 13146560, 14596051 - Which I thought would fix the problem. Rebooted after successfully applying the patches, but asmca still shows them greyed out
and not supported on this OS error persists.
I see some posts online saying to edit osds_acfslib.pm and update it to allow for the supported ORACLE version
Right now it shows: ($release =~ /^oraclelinux-release/))) # Oracle Linux
under /etc it only has oracle-release - could that have something to do with it not passing the check?
    uname -r
    2.6.39-300.17.3.el6uek.x86_64
From what I can tell this kernal should support asm..
Any help in getting these shared storage asm disks setup would be very helpful, oracleasm creates them and sees them fine for databases. Thanks.

Turns out the Kernel version 2.6.39 does not have support for the ASM Drivers for the ACFS mounting.
I'm going to have to use Oracle Linux 6.2 (instead of Oracle Linux 6.3) and rebuild my RAC to get a supported version of the drivers -> Kernel version 2.6.32

  • How to normalize all audio clip volumes using iMovie (2013)?

Normalizing clip volumes was very easily accomplished in previous versions of iMovie, but this feature appears to have been deleted in iMovie (2013), a.k.a. version 10.0.3.  My project is a simple slideshow with songs added from iTunes, but the volume levels of the songs are all different, and it would be nice to be able to automatically normalize the volumes for all of the songs.  Any advice would be appreciated!

The normalize volume feature is indeed gone.  You have to adjust manually, selecting the audio track of each song in turn.

  • "Next" button grayed out in Extend Volume Wizard

    Greetings,
I'm kind of stumped, I've never seen this before.  I've seen where the "Extend Volume" option is grayed out, but never have I seen where you can get into the Wizard, but not continue.
    Here is a screenshot:
    Any information would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Have you tried diskpart from command line?  I've seen cases where the GUI has issues but diskpart goes right through.
I presume there's no volume between this & the free space or - just like you said - the entire option would have been greyed out to begin with.

  • Lens-blur / Tilt-shift blur grayed out for a video clip as Smart Object

So instead of using Actions and apply the said effects to hundreds, even thousands of still frames, I was aware you can apply filters directly onto a rendered video clip in Photoshop.
I followed the instructions by opening the video which I created with "Open Image Sequence" in QuickTime, converted it into a Smart Object. But when I try to apply the said blur effects, they are all grayed out.
What am I doing wrong? Is this something CS6 can't do but CC can?
    Please advise, thank you!

I'm kind of restricted as to the height and position on the indoors shots. I have my eye on positions but it means climbing up on things and getting into corners but, if needs must.
I was using alpha channels as the angles I've used so far don't lend themselves to making a straight mask. I'll stick with it though, it might look better on just the automated machine with no people.
Maybe being forced into working with odd angles and positions might give the video something unique over the rest, probably not though. I guess there's only one way to find out.
